Speaker 2 (00:51):
And welcome everyone to Magic Insiders. We are presented by
International Diamond Center. Dante Marcitelli, Jake Chapman here with you,
and it is good to be back. It is good
to be live. Took me a second. See I don't
always I don't always catch the queue.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
It's dark in here.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
It's it's dark in here. But now I know we're
live and we're ready to go. Jake, it's been a
while since we've done this live, but it's good to
be back at it. And it's most of all, it's
good to be communicating with you Magic fans, especially after
last night's win.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
It was spectacular last night. What an atmosphere in the building.
Javin Suggs back on the floor, the Miami Heat. It
came down to crunch time. It was about everything you
could ask for an opening night. And like I kept
saying last night on the broadcast, we won, but Miami lost.
And it feels like it counts two. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Those are two great things. Two great things. The Magic
get a win on Opening night. When a Magic win,
you went too. With Papa John's Pizza, You're getting fifty
percent off your regular menu price. Order today at Papa
John's dot com. Use the promo code Magic Win. That's
promo code Magic Win. They are they win one twenty
five to one twenty one and you get twenty four
points apiece from Franz Wagner and Paulo Bancero. You get
(01:57):
twenty three from Desmond Bine in his Orlando debut. It's
the second time in Magic history that they have had
three players get twenty points on opening night, the other
time happening in twenty twenty two. Franz and Jalen were
the three that did that. So a little bit of
history last night as well, but most importantly, the Magic
get the win, and it just felt good. You're down
(02:18):
eight in that fourth quarter, and again we appreciate too.
Can we see the comments piling in, and we're gonna
get to you here in just a second, But you're
down eight in the fourth quarter. You finished the game
on a twenty four to twelve run. So we got offense, Jake,
and we got defense when we needed it, especially in
the last six minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Had offense for three quarters. It was the third quarter
where the offense bogged down a little bit. You only
put up twenty one in the third and you had
a spat of turnovers and that was really what led
to that the balance that you saw last night. Obviously
you go through the stat sheet and you see it
twenty four a piece. Like you mentioned Polo and Franz.
You got sixteen off the bench from Tristan de Silva.
He was fantastic you made twelve threes. It was kind
(02:54):
of a whole bunch in the first half, and then
you went a little bit frosty, but you scored thirty
five points in the four quarter, and as you mentioned
that twenty four to twelve run, like the biggest plays
of the game were hustle plays, offensive rebounds. Wendell Carr
Junior struggled all night and then showed up very.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Very big when it really really mattered. And that's what
it's about.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
I mean, in the NBA, you're gonna have games like
that almost every night that come down to the last
four or five minutes. And last night at home, the
magic had that extra little push to put him over
the top.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Jay Curve, we see a man. Keep doing your thing
with that magic minute. Em raheem, mister business traveler. We
appreciate you all tuning in. And I think there's a
number of big stories and we just ran through a
few of them, but I don't know if there was
anything bigger than Jalen Suggs making his return last night.
And he told us in the morning, right he said, listen,
I'm gonna be yeah, I'm gonna be hyped, but I'm
gonna be a little more under control, a little more subdued.
(03:47):
And last I saw his parents, he said, they said,
that's gonna last about two minutes. It lasted three seconds.
When the fans saw him during the introductions, he completely
played to the crowd, started dancing everything that we love
about jal and sugs. He finishes last night in impressive fashion.
He comes out, makes his first three by the way,
able to finish, makes one of the biggest plays of
(04:07):
the game with his steel hits the shot of the
game right where he pivoted fifteen times like Terry Katalagee
and gets a shot to go but didn't didn't drag
his feet, and Jalen sugs fourteen points, four rebounds, a
couple of steals in his in his debut.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
He picked up two personal files in the first minute.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
And three three seconds of the game. If you were
wondering exactly, that's how you know he's back, if you're
ordering exactly where he was. And we we talked all
day about it. We talked to the pregame show. You know,
is he able to just sort of, you know, sort
of like put a governor.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
On his engine?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Right?
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yes, And he's not. He's not capable. He thought he was,
but I don't think we want him to either. I mean,
you saw last night. He is absolutely the spirit animal
of this group. He responds more so than anybody else
to the crowd at Kia Center, and they respond more
so to him than anybody else. And in crunch time
he was in the middle of absolutely everything. He hands
(04:58):
up with two steals. How many possessions did he wreck
last night? And he wasn't even on the floor for
that long, what sixteen minutes? It was a taste of
what he means to this team. But you know, we
got I don't want to say we got used to
life without Jalen last year, but we don't have any
choice when he went down in January. So you played
the rest of the season and you adjust to that reality.
(05:18):
What we saw last night, just how much he means
to this team. And imagine what it looks like when
he's on the floor for thirty minutes with Desmond, with
from My Goodness and Apollo. It's the Young Corps was
shining last night, and even having Jalen for just that
little bit, you saw the difference it makes well, and
you got to get better defensively.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
There's no bones about it. That was a horrible defensive
first quarter. You gave up thirty nine points to the
Miami Heat. Well, I thought we're gonna shoot seventy five
percent for the industs crazy. I thought that it was
unbelievable to start that they got off to but you
reeled it in when you needed to. And credit to
coach Moseley, he told him with four minutes left, we've
done this the last three days in practice. We have
gone over our two minute drill what we have to
do defensively and offensively. We know everything that's coming and
(06:00):
were prepared for it. And they were, and they outscored
him twenty four to twelve. They're down the stretch roam.
You're right, how about Desmond Bane? Shout out to our
starting two guard and that's where we were going next.
The debut of Desmond Bain. I don't know that it
could have gone any better. And he gets a little
help here today because they took away a three point attempt.
So technically he was three of six from beyond the
arc last night, set of three and seven, So even that's.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Going in heck and wins.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
Even the next day, thirty two minutes for des twenty
three points, a huge bucket late seven of eighteen from
the floor, an incredible pass and no look pass to
Polo Bancero.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
He finishes with four rebounds and three assists. Desmond Bane
better than advertised I got. I got a text that
I have to share. Probably shouldn't share it, but I
got a text from buddy of mine saying maybe I
don't think four picks.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Was enough for I think it was a lot.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
It was a lot to get him, but an unbelievable
debut for Desmond Bank.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
He was awesome. He wasted no time right like, he
looked comfortable. There is not going to be any sort
of an adjustment period, which he sort of expected. With
a guy like Desmond Bain. You get a little bit
higher profile and you get into making the big move
and the guys come in and also in you're handing
the keys over. That's when you have this big adjustment period.
This team is in place, and Desmond Bayin is a
guy who sort of fills the cracks right. Obviously, the
(07:13):
perimeter shooting was fantastic. He got his three threes, I
think in three different ways. He was shooting off the bounce,
he was shooting side step threes. He was shooting catch
and shoot threes. He can do everything offensively. He can
play make as we've talked about. You saw that, I
think a bit last night. I said two block shots
last night. Defensively, we've said he's gonna fit the identity,
(07:34):
but we haven't seen it in practice. Preseason is preseason.
You saw it last night as well.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
He had an unbelievable block on Norman Powell. He ended
up getting a ball back and make a three. That
guy's incredible. I mean, you talk about an offensive talent
twenty six last night for their prize free agent in
Norman Powell. But uh, and I thought probably the biggest
play of the game Desmond Bayan using that big frame
to dive for the loose ball and then he draws
the file from Bam Autebaio and then the free he
(08:00):
throws down the stretch. I mean, you can't say enough
about that. Everybody's stepping up knocking down free throws, and
the next segment we'll kind of get to the unsung
heroes of the basketball game last night. But I mean,
if you're Desmond Baine, I don't know that you I
don't know that that could have gone any better for
you with the performance that he had last night, because
he showed all the things that you mentioned on the
offensive end, but he showed that he can defend. You
(08:22):
do not lose anything defensively having Desmond Baine out there
on the.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
Floor, No, absolutely not, and that's I think that was crucial.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
We knew he needed to address the shooting, but you
don't want to bring a guy in who all of
a sudden is a liability, right, and you're creating more
problems on the other end. This team, the defense will
be better than it was last night. I think it's
a juggling act and Coach Mosley has been talking about
it the whole preseason and he was concerned about it
yesterday morning. If you're going to push pace and try
to hang one twenty five, it's very very easy to
(08:50):
get sucked into that sort of style of play and
for there to be a deficit on the defensive side
of the ball. It's just it's really really difficult. You
gotta be Oklahoma to do both things really really well.
But we're getting there. I think you saw last night
the ability at the very least when it matters to
lock down, and that's very important.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
This, Well, they're going to have to hang their hat
on the defensive ends. Still, you're gonna be better offensively,
but your defense is what gets you there. Okay, see
wins the championship. They were the number one defensive team
in the league last year.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
You're going to be better.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Can you be in the top fifteen offensively instead of thirtieth? Right,
that's what you're jugging for and still be a top
five defense in the NBA at.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Least the Miami Heat. You put one twenty five on uys.
That's right, right, they're not fully intact, but that's still
going to be a very good defensive team. We think
when all of a sudden done, no, I think you're right.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
And before we get to break here in a couple
of minutes. But how about this from Rain The first
play of the game was a perfect way to start
to see it was that unbelievable, the design play that
ends up in the dunk from Wendell Carter Junior.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
The after timeouts looked very, very sharp. Last night it
felt like last night. And we've known this about Jamal
Mosley since he's been here, but it felt like a
stalemate at the very least last night as far as
coaching goes, and when you can do that against Eric Bolton,
in my opinion, he's the the high watermark. He's the
dean of NBA coaches now with no Greg Popovic in
his eighteenth season in Miami, we know how good he
(10:05):
is and I felt like there was no advantage as
far as coaching went whatsoever last night.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Well that's a great point, and Gozilla. I see your
comment on Tristan. That's gonna be the next segment. He's
kind of one of those un heroes because you're right,
he played. He played a huge part in that basketball
game last night. But you to me, and this kills
me to do this, but you got to give Miami credit.
I was blown away by the product that Eric Spolstra
had out there on the floor last night. No, Tyler Hero,
you don't have your all Star. They play hard, they
(10:32):
play fast, They stayed right there with Orlando, and man,
they shot the heck.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Out of the basketball. Yes, well it's a veteran.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
You had to beat a Miami team that was playing
at their best last night.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
It felt like it for sure. And look, they made
twelve threes. They're gonna get Tyler Hero backs. So the
offense is going to look a little bit more I
think aficient when all a said and done. Bottom mine
is though they brought in Norman Powell, and that dude
is plug and play. I mean he is just he's
going to score whatever uniform he's wearing. But boy, they
do have some depth that they can rely upon, don't they.
(11:04):
You look at a guy like Fantechio who came in,
he played well yesterday.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
That's the best I've seen him.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
That's the best I've seen him as well. And and
then Khalil Aerra was coming off the bench. He was
dealing with an ankle injury. But we know he's a
big part of their future. That Jovic is gonna be
a real player. They're doing a good job I think
of kind of splitting the timelines. I don't know what
it to look like this season, but boy, if you
need to get the best out of a Davion Mitchell
or if you need to develop a Jovic, no better
(11:29):
than the Miami Heat and Eric Spolsterra. They've done a
good job bringing those guys along.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Well, it's gonna be interesting to see how that plays out.
They'll get They'll get Tyler hero back at some point.
But looks pretty good right now. And I love these comments.
And this guy right prying. He knows right how to
get He knows how to get right to your heart,
doesn't he who wants to talk about goga?
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Come on now, I know I don't even see that comment.
Speaker 7 (11:50):
He knows right out of get goga. My goga radar
is offered. He knows how to get right to the
heart of Jake Chapman. We'll have all that for you

(13:31):
Visit clip dot com to learn more. And you know
you talk about unsung heroes. I had a couple with
Wendell Carter Junior, who got your big offensive rebounds and
free throws late. He had seven points in five He
had seven points and five rebounds in the fourth quarter alone. Yep,
did Windell after a slow start. So we'll start that,
you know we can. We'll go to the Silva, We'll
go to Anthony Black was great, Goga Bitase was great.
(13:53):
They all had their moments, no question about it. But
I don't think after the slow start that Wendell Carter
Junior had last night, right, So going into the fourth quarter,
Wendell just had he just had two points. It only
scored one basket. I don't know that he would have
come out of that last year, right. That is huge
that he stayed with it. He dug down. He's still
(14:15):
confident Wendell from the preseason, and he dug himself out
of it and he won that basketball game with his
offensive rebound.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
He had three personal files at halftime. He finished the
game with four right right there, you go to another
another piece that last year may have taken him the
kind of out of his game and the threat lease
out of his comfort level and sort of sapped his confidence.
When Dell was the unsung hero, I thought he was
actually the hero because of when he made his place.
But you're right, yeah, he struggled for three and a
half quarters.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Now.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Look, I'm sitting there looking at his rebounding total in
the third quarter and I'm going, okay, well, but we're
not getting out rebounded. And so for Wendeck Carter Junior,
you never quite know what's going on down below when
the shot goes up, right, he's fighting off bam Adebayo
and Jovic and all that and bamfut.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
You're talking about it a guy who's going to be
in consideration for defensive Player of the Year. Exactly, you
understand in.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
That and so and so that's one of those examples
we always talk about with Windell where the work that
he does does not necessarily show up on the box score.
But when all was said and done, it was about
a stalemate as far as rebounding goes. And against a
team like Miami, that's not bad, especially when bam Adebayo
is on the floor. I thought Whendell was fantastic. You
talked about Goga. He finishes with what eight points, eight rebounds,
(15:21):
four assists and a steal in nineteen minutes on the floor.
He was fantastic. If four assists for for.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Go goa, I mean he just goes out there and
does his job. He just every single time, big, big,
big defensive plays as well.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
From Goga, massive defensive plays as well. He had a
block and a steal and and if you want to
do unsung hero. Just as far as the box score goes,
it was those free throws we shot thirty five. We
shot eight more free throws in Miami did, and we
made eight more free throws in Miami did, and we
won the game by four points. And that was something
that you know, Polo, for instance, he got the free
throw in twelve times. I said, he made nine of them.
And that's that is what that's what we're looking for.
(15:54):
Seventy five eighty percent. It's gonna make a big difference
because of how often Polow gets to the stripe a
year ago and we don't get to the free throw
in thirty five times at all in a game against
Miami thirty five and that's like an unheard of number.
But I'm not sure you convert on twenty nine to
them either. So that's the type stuff when we're talking
about a game like that, it's all those little things
that add up. And I think you saw throughout training
(16:16):
camp a much more kind of detail oriented approach from
coach Moseley and the group. If you want to win
games like that, you got to be buttoned up, and
they were in the fourth quarter. You got to be prepared.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
And then Brian Hill said it on the telecast last night.
We always felt that the more prepared team can steal
wins at the beginning of the season. Yes, right, that
was the goal, is to go through everything, and we
saw there were a lot of close practices. There was
a lot of focus by this Magic team all throughout
training camp in the preseason to make sure you were
buttoned up for opening night. Now, way too many turnovers,
(16:46):
fifteen turnovers, you had eight in the third quarter alone.
This game almost got away from you in that third quarter,
but fortunately you were able to reel it back in.
So you got new players, You're playing faster, You're going
to have more turnover, yeap, and everybody to a man said,
we can play so much better than we did last night.
So you put up one hundred and twenty five and
you can play so much better. So that's scary to
(17:07):
me for the league when you look at it. But
I love this comment here from Jay Curve to the
roof would have blown off if Gogo Batase hits that three.
I mean he's not and you're not kidding, right, that's coming,
It's coming. Go Go started I think one for he
started zero for twelve or fifteen last year before he
hit his first three. That's something he's been working on.
And if he can add that wrinkle, and then you
(17:28):
literally got everybody on the team making.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
I might break equipment the first yes, well, one of
the first years I was doing play by play. I
think it was when Polo duck Actually it might have
been when Polo ducked over Corey Joseph. I jumped up
from from the broadcast table and my head said, yanked off. Yeah,
of course, I think you can't do that. I'm envisioning
something like that. If Goa knocks down a couple threes,
(17:52):
equipment will be damaged in some way. Maybe it's spilled coffee.
Maybe I'm yanking cords out, but whatever it is, we're
gonna go off the air if Goa knocks down a
couple triples.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
And when we'll Vogner comes back that first game that
Movager comes back, Tristan to Silva. I know we only
got a few minutes left, but Tristan to Silva, this game,
to me, Jake was teetering in the first half on
getting away from it. You were down eleven at one
point in that first half, and you go to Tristan
de Silva. He comes in and replaces Polo Bancaro, who,
to Pollow's credit, they were double team in him, triple
(18:19):
team in them. Everywhere he looked, he had Miami heat bodies,
and he didn't force it. He finished the game with
only two turnovers, and he let Franz do his thing
when it was his time. He let Desmond do his thing,
and then when it was time for Polo to get
going in the third and fourth, he did that. But
I thought, when this thing was dangerously teetering on getting
away from you, Tristan de Silva comes in and hits
(18:41):
a huge three, has a couple of finishes in the paint,
solid defense, great rebounder. Tristan was huge last night was sixteen.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
It makes three of your twelve threes on five attempts,
sixteen points in eighteen minutes. I mean super efficient. He
and Go Go were a plus eleven off the bench,
and Anthony Black was plus thirteen. That's the type stuff
that winsy games. When you're driving your bench bunch is
able to deliver like that, And if you look down
at Miami's second unit, it's a whole bunch of minuses.
So we won those minutes. And boyd Tristan. Could you
(19:11):
know we talk all training camp in preseason about who
are the X factors, and I know we talked about
Tristan a little bit, but boy he could be such
a huge boost to this team. The perimeter shooting within
that second unit, the perimeter shooting. They're going to rely
upon him heavily. If you just think about you know,
Anthony Blake, Tys Jones can shoot it. But if you
think about ab the guys, he's gonna be on the
floor with ab Ji Goga right like, They're gonna need
(19:33):
him to space the floor. So just standing there in
the corner and knocking down open threes is a huge
part of what you're asking Tristan to do. You're comfortable
with him defensively. He's got a nice frame and grab
it as many rebounds last night, but you know he
can hold his own on the glass as well. If
Jamal Moseley doesn't need to worry about who's going to
space the floor for a second unit, then the sky's
(19:54):
the limit for this team because you know the offense
that you're gonna get, or at least you have an
idea of what it's gonna look like for the starters.
We still have some question marks with that truck unit.
Who's going to lead lead the charge? Is it going
to be Anthony black gall and Anthony black Hands, Styles Jones, etcetera,
et cetera. Tristan doing what he did last night consistently
throughout the year will be a huge, huge boost to
that grow well.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
And he's confident and at this time last year he's
a rookie. He's on sure of himself. He's trying to
work his way into it. The confidence he's brimming with
confidence from having been one of the best players on
a German team that won EuroBasket right this past summer,
so he comes in. He was one of the best
players in camp. We've said that all throughout Magic Insiders
when we started. And I love the comments coming in.
I got here, Yes, yes, I do.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
This is from Rome a good way. Paula casually walked
into a double double last night. All that's scary for
the rest of the league. That's exactly I mean he was.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Could you write like the amount of attention that Miami
said he did?
Speaker 2 (20:45):
He did?
Speaker 3 (20:45):
He was like, okay, And first off, didn't you notice
Paula was setting screens more. Everybody was involved in the
offense more setting screens and and uh, okay, it's a
picking roll with paul in front. Now I'm picking a
roll with Brie investment. You just have so much more versatile,
I think with Dez in that starting group. But I mean,
Poullow knew the amount of attention he was getting. It
(21:07):
was he was getting a lot of those hockey assists
he was coming off, but then it was an extra
pass to get there. Seven of seventeen. He got his
work done at the free throw line in the scoring department.
But he said, Okay, my buddies are gonna score. I'm
gonna get mine on the glass, and he did eleven
rebounds on the game where he wasn't that involved offensively.
That is that's pretty special stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Starts with the double double, Franz Wagner, the nineteen points
in the first half and Franz. The beauty of playing
with pace is if you can hit Franz Wagner in
the open floor, he's unstoppable. Yep, He's unstoppable with the
moves that he has and his ability to finish right hand,
left handed. We saw all of that on display in
the first half. He carried Orlando in that first half.
Desmond Bane great as well. And then that's the luxury
(21:50):
of having that two headed monster is he can turn
it over to Polo to do his thing. Get to
the free throw line. I mean, he just put his
head down and got to the free throw line on
a night where they were determined and not to let
Paulo get going. But it was Franz who set the
tone early.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
Colin Franz in the open floor against a single defender.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
That's just unfair. Is trying to stop just you've already lost.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
That's exactly right. And I see the comments. Listen, Kyle,
I got you not a great You know, you're talking
about Jonathan Isaac and Tias Jones. With Jonathan Isaac, I
think it was seven minutes last night, three in the
first half, four in the second half. I still think
I don't think you start the season opening night with
Jonathan Isaac playing twenty minutes. I still think it's a
bit of a ramp up, and it always might be
for him at the start of a season. So he'll
(22:33):
get those minutes up and that'll be a different story
and he's going to get his footing under him. Tias Jones,
I think he'll be the first one to tell you, yeah,
I could have played better in that in his Magic debut.
But you see why he's here. He keeps the team
organized a lot. You give them, You give him the
basketball and he yeah, okay, the shot wasn't there, But
how many times did he make the right pass get
it to the right guy. Defensively, He's going to have
(22:54):
to get better on that end of the floor, no
question about it. But these are things that you can
improve on. You can on that and you still won
the basketball.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
And to be frank, you didn't bring Tyas Jones here
for his defense, No, you know, it's it's just.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
It's not his call. But he did the things that
she asked him to do. Shots are going to fall,
and they'll look better as a team defense.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Absolutely, And I look like you said, like when you
look at his box score, okay, it's it doesn't jump
off the page at you. But we scored one hundred
and twenty five points last yek and he played twenty
four minutes, so you're right. He had the second unit
organized and he played a lot with the starters as well.
You know, I don't know what his minutes look like
right when Jalen is playing a full dosage, but he
didn't last night, and so I think it probably you'll
(23:33):
probably see a little bit more balanced there.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
How about this from Kyle? The Sugs ovation gave me goosebumps.
I have to admit, I you know, you do the
introductions and it's a lot. It is a lot, right,
There's all the pomp and circumstance and all that, And
I get it. It's awesome. We love that an opening night,
but I kind of looked down at something and I
wasn't looking at the screen. When Jalen came out the place,
he erupted. I mean It was an absolute eruption and
(23:56):
an ovation for Jalen. And I look up and saw
him dance and I said, Okay, now we've arrived. Jalen's
officially back. That was special. That was to Kyle's point,
that was one of the coolest parts of the night life.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
We had him on the walk off last night and
shout out Christy bird Sell she got that away. You
up on social so check it out if you want.
Speaker 6 (24:12):
We had him.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
We had him postgame as well. He was pretty calm, was.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
He well, he was Yeah. I thought he was gonna cry.
It was awesome, dude. The emotion was just pumping through him.
And of course the walk off, that's that's that's pretty
special time to get him. He was still he was
still feeling the juice. Yeah, he's been through a lot, man,
and Jalen. Jalen is obviously always going to to to
wear his emotions on his sleeve, like you're never gonna
(24:37):
wonder what's going on between his ears. He is very
open about all of that, and he's talked very openly
about the struggles that he had ye getting back from
this injury. But for him to have that moment last
night and for it to all come together. He deserved it,
to be sure, But y man, there is you know,
he is just sort of the heart and soul of
this whole thing. And so it was only fitting, i think,
(24:57):
to get that win last night with him in the
middle of all of it.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Fourteen point was six of seven. You forget that. Like
he came out and hit two threes, two big threes.
He had that step back jumper again. He was in
the lane for forty five seconds and hit that step
back jumper, which was huge, ended up being whether the
deciding baskets of the game. He finishes with four rebounds,
two assists, and three tackles there in the first minute.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Which you loved it.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
You loved that about You knew this guy, are you
your half time? You knew this guy was gonna be
amped up, didn't it coming into that basketball game last night?
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (25:27):
And as we close on this, our upcoming games look
ahead powered by Ticketmaster, And now it doesn't get any easier, Jake,
you have the Atlanta Hawks coming into your building. Yeah,
you put up one hundred and twenty five points last night.
They scored one hundred and eighteen. But Atlanta gets blown
out at home by the Toronto Raptors. I don't know
how many people had the Toronto Raptors winning opening night
in Atlanta, putting up one hundred and thirty eight points.
(25:48):
So it was our first look at that at that
trio in Atlanta of Trey Young, Porzingis and Jalen Johnson,
they each go for twenty in the debut, but they
get blown out at home. I think we knew the
defense probably wasn't going to be the calling card of
these Atlanta Hawks, but we know this team can put
up points.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Yeah, you're right, one hundred and thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I'm not sure if I'm not sure if Toronto will
score one hundred and thirty eight again this season. Not insane.
But Jalen Johnson back and he looked really good last night,
so it's probably gonna look a little similar to what
last night's game. Our game looks like. I would imagine
getting up and down a whole bunch, and if you
get to one thirty, then you'll be stilling good about yourself.
But the defense, our defense tomorrow will have to be
(26:29):
significantly better, or I know very least. You're gonna have
to mind your p's and ques against that group because
they can certainly score two things.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
As we close a handle, how likely would you be
to have a handle called unlikely jelly jellyfish? Unlikely jellyfish
was something that was a choice that somebody actually kind
of liked that.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
What do you like about that?
Speaker 4 (26:48):
It's two words I never thought to put together.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
That's unique?
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Okay, Well, then I challenged someone to bloat jake away
next week with an even better one, unlikely jellyfish. That is,
there's a lot of potential there. I don't think you'll
ever see something like that again. And Will Dawson must
have had a dentist appointment or something. How how have
we not there last night? From Will Dawson? Here, this
is he's actually working. Well, there's no chance of that.
(27:13):
He's certainly of it. And even if he is, he's available.
He must have had a he must whatever he does,
he makes himself available.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
A working last year.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Probably probably landed something. I gotta get the story on
unlikely jellyfish. I gotta get to maybe it's just like you,
just just two names that go together.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
That's That's what I'm gonna get. Like in the nineties,
it was like everybody's grunge band. It was just two
random words put together. I think that's what he was
going for.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
That could be a band.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
You might likely Jellyfish. You might be.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Opening for Oasis here on their comeback tour. Kyle, We're
so proud to be Magic fans too. This is awesome.
It's gonna be a great season. You can't win all
eighty two if you don't win game one, so that
is still possibility for the Orlando Magic. Great win last night.
We'll be back with another live show, hopefully one day
next week from the road. Jake will be on the
old travel and we'll see what that looks like. Might
be impossible, Well, we'll give it our best. Uh, probably unlikely,
(28:05):
but we'll figure that he'll figure it out, no question,
and then we'll go from there. But that'll do it
for this edition of Magic Insiders. We'll see us soon.
