Good wrestling games are awesome, and bad wrestling games are hilarious. But what about a game that isn't bad, but isn't good? It's just kinda, there? That's how I'd describe WCW Mayhem.
The glory days of WCW were long gone by the time Mayhem dropped. THQ was taking their Revenge engine and turning it into WWF WrestleMania 2000, and EA picked up the bony remains of World Championship Wrestling to make a new wrestling game. The end result was Mayhem, a competent wrestling game with little replay value and a barebones career mode.
I'm rolling solo this week, and while I still had fun playing WCW Mayhem, it made for a tricky review because there just isn't a lot of meat on the bone. But between the engine, ranting about Hulk Hogan, comparing it to other games from that era, and reminiscing about WCW as a whole, I managed to pry a 3-star match out of our game this week.
