(00:11):
Well, everybody, welcome back tothe Giant Beast Cast. Thanks for sticking
with us here. My goodness, gracious, gracious goodness. It is episode
three hundred and seven, three hundredand seven. It is April eighth,
Friday, April nineth. If you'relistening to this on the Friday, once
(00:34):
upon a time, we did thisshow on a Friday. Pretty soon,
I think we're gonna have released itlive on Thursday, probably longer than we
released it recording it on Friday. It's so weird to do the math on
that. It's been a long road. I want to give a special shout
out to the people out there whoare holding fact, who are still refusing
to listen to this show unless itappears on a Friday morning. You are
(00:56):
the ogs. That's right, that'sall. That's right. It's right.
You have it on your zoom itupdates on Friday. You put it,
You put it on your rock CEOmusic uh MP three player, yeah,
whatever you have there, and yougo, you go go for a jog,
or you do what you have toplease. It's a diamond rio.
I burned them to a CD andI listened to it on my Diamond rio
(01:17):
with the anti shock so you canrun with it. Yeah, okay,
Ober all that ship where it's like, oh my CD player won't play that
brand, Yes, you're only playYeah, yeah, yeah it's weird.
Alex Navarro, Okay, Alex Varr, we'll get to you. Don't worry.
You save these good bits from whenI say your name, Alex Navarrow,
I'm back, You're back. Yeah, I had to leave last time,
(01:42):
sext. It was very remar thatI go and get my vaccination and
I did, and uh one, very happy that I did it, very
happy that it's done. I gotthe Johnson Johnson so it was the one
shot. Two boy, did Ifeel fucking awful after I got Your immune
system is good? All right? And then what they say, yeah,
I think so, but that's whatyou told me, and I'm going with
(02:04):
that's what I heard on the radio. So I'm going with that means that
your immune system recognized there's a littleforeign entity in your body and was like
yeah. Because my parents were likethat ship was nothing, I'm like,
yeah, because your immune system isa broken, desiccated skelet. Your immune
system just put their hands up andwas like, all right, take what
(02:25):
you want, all right, Justjust can you just all right pack it
up, We're done. No,I don't know. I'm a little Yeah,
I'm a little afraid from my wifewhen she gets it because her immune
system knock on what it's usually prettygood, so we'll see if she gets
knocked out. It was a twentyfour hours of pain and torment, and
then after that I was mostly fine. Worth torment, do you I mean?
(02:46):
Like so it was like it waslike a mild fever, which wasn't
so bad, but the aches, the body aches were maybe the worst I've
ever had, really really ever fromgood for you, from the flu,
from anything like it was either youhaven't had bad ache. That was real
bad. It was real bad.Fuck. But again, it was twenty
(03:08):
four hours and then after that, like it I could almost time it because
my girlfriend and I got the shotat the same time and we started feeling
the symptoms at almost the exact sametime, and then they all went away
at almost the exact same time.Oh that's when the chip kicks out.
It kicks in and it turns off. Yeah, I'm a five G hotspot.
It's awesome, JFF. I justthink it's so wild there. It's
(03:30):
wild that like on an unscientific surveysample. It's like, I'm there,
guaranteed shitty side effects. Yeah, you're gonna feel like garbage for a day,
but you know what after that day, smooth get If you don't have
side effects, don't worry about it. So like who knows, who knows?
(03:52):
Yeah, don't worry about You're justworking your garbage immune system. They
just put in a bunch of salineinstead of My parents early had anything.
Your parents are old, yeah, but they're like they're good health. They're
they're gonna take good care of themselves. Like my my my dad had a
little bit of a fever and likemy mom's arm hurt for like two days,
but that was kind of it.I I get the second uh one
(04:15):
a week from tomorrow for you,for you are you? And what is
it? It's like two or three, three weeks after your two and then
they say that you've you got thegood stuff, the good antibodies. Yeah,
I mean I I had read ajournal report that one of my doctor
friends sent me the other day thatsaid even first shot efficacy is pushing north
(04:40):
of like eighty percent, which isu pretty pretty great to hear. So
well, if you can get thatlast ten percent. Let me just get
that just people are getting hopefully theyare getting appointments that are seeking them out.
It still sounds. Yes, itseems like in some states like the
right now you can just get anappointment if you need to, Like it's
to start maybe over that tipping pointin some places Jersey Jersey, just I
(05:04):
think like the fifteenth or something, they're they're doing the floodgates open. I
think it's like a sixteen and older. It's like, oh, we're now
opening eligibility up to walkers and joggers. Want to meet those meet those qualifications,
you are now eligible. I want, I want. I'm eligible,
(05:25):
So I have my schedule for thisweekend. I'm eligible because of the BMI
requirements. Uh. And I don'tthink just to talk about BMI for a
second, because you know, itcomes up when you're talking about the eligibility
requirements. Yeah, that I understandit. You know, might work.
I think we talked about this.We got some email. Did I got
(05:46):
a lot of tweets about BMI shaming. BMI is Uh, it's kind of
a dumb metric. Well, notthat it's dumb, it's just the very
specific I think the thing that Isaid. Somebody who wrote in said good
for a group, not great foran individual, and I was like,
okay, that makes sense. Yeahthat makes sense. That makes sense.
So yeah, I like that.I like that. Let's talk about the
(06:09):
games. Yeah, you want toknow, you want to keep going.
I feel like, didn't you makeme shut up about something? And then
the camera you were talking about yourremember when you burn CDs and they didn't
work on every CD player. Wellthat's not very exciting now to bring that
up out of nowhere. So no, I I will pass. You know
what. Okay, you know whatthe modern one is, like the you
(06:30):
need to have the right freaking dD card for a device, and like,
oh yeah, I'm learning at thecard on anything that wasn't my switch
in forever. No, but likecameras now, dude, like new,
uh you new? You know, big time cameras, Like they need that
fast read write. There's different classes, there's different levels, there's oh,
(06:51):
it's a whole thing's good because Istole about thirty SD cards from work when
we were cleaning it out. Sostealing a nice camera, that's not the
right word. Do you are entitledto those SD cards? They are they
are? I have a I don'tknow that I am because I wasn't even
there when you ordered that. Ihave account I've accounted for those they are.
Don't worry story you have worked thoseoff in for sweat equity by by
(07:15):
packing that studio up. Uh havevideo game. So my kids are on
spring break, lay for spring break, which means that my game time in
the morning while they're usually in schoolis gone boo. As now they have
laid claim to the TV and consoles. But I did manage to get in
(07:36):
a little more evil genius too.Uh. And that's not a PC.
That's not on a console. It'snot a PC. And I've been playing
it through the Steam Link. Ido still enjoy the Steam Link in the
den and nice. That's nice yourgroup of one twelve foot by one foot
room I called the den and Uh, I had that game. I I
(08:00):
enjoy. I have a quick lookrecorded with Brad. It's gonna go up
tomorrow morning. That game is good. It's a good game. It's flawed,
though I don't apologize right now.If here's a heads up you're listeners
of the Beast Cast. I forgotand this was an error on my part
and it just goes to show Ithink I usually get this right. Forgot
(08:20):
to turn the music back on whenI started the quick look the in game
music because I've been listening to podcastswhile playing that game, because it's a
good podcast game. So I apologizethe music is the music is okay.
I think it's actually good at first, and then kind of twenty plus hours
in, you're like, okay,I got it. I kind of turned
it off after a while, butthen I forgot to turn it off.
I was like, man, thisis silent, but I turn it back
(08:41):
on. So I apologize, apologizethe rebellion for anyway that game is good.
It's not great. I feel likeit's it's it's so drags. The
career mode drags on in a waythat's like get me to more stuff sooner.
I don't like. I don't likethe world map management stuff in it.
(09:01):
You have your base building. Youknow, they don't make a lot
of these types of games anymore, like these base management games, and then
you have this world map thing thatyou're that you're trying to dominate or but
it's just it's just busy work. There's just cool downs and clicks on stuff
and it uses it's a resourced sink, and I don't like that part at
(09:22):
all. I don't know if otherpeople have played it, I'd like to
talk about it, like I don'tfeel I feel like a lot of people
aren't playing it. Also, someof the balance in it seems off.
I don't know what is up withSymmetry. She us this super agent.
There are different super agents. Someare like I smash walls, I sneak
in. Symmetry appears in your vaultwith a bunch of rogues to attempt to
(09:43):
steal your money, which is fine, but then her rogues are like the
most powerful thing in the game, and they just wipe out my entire base
every time, and it's very annoying. But you can build traps in it.
The basis of the game as youare kind of you know, choose
your your bond or Austin powers, but you're just like doctor Evil uh cut
(10:07):
s character. You get to choosein the sandbox mode which one you want
to be, and you're building alayer and your secret agents are coming in
and you build traps, you doall this stuff. I like it.
I just have some stuff. Ijust wish they tweaked a little bit.
Maybe they will so you can. It's forty dollars. There's a season pass
forward that brings it up to sixty. It's on Steam. I'd like to
(10:28):
hear what other people are thinking aboutit. I've been on some reddits reading
like am I is it me?And I don't think it's just me about
some of this stuff. But fora genre that doesn't get a ton of
games like this, I just wishit were a little better. I mean
it's satisfying, just wish were alittle better. But you know, I
don't know what's like forty. It'shard to put in hours to enjoyments,
(10:50):
to price on a on a game. I think like, if I've enjoyed
like twenty hours of it, likeI've gotten pretty pretty good values that it's
not bad. I don't know. It's hard to always do that math.
But that's the work game I've beenplaying. Yeah, what have I've been
playing for fun? What do Ido when the kids go to bed?
(11:11):
Yeah? Oh that's good. That'sa good question. It talk to me
about Vinnie after Dark, Dishonored? What I want to go? What I
want to go play more Dishonored? So I Dishonored is a game. I
talked about it before, but it'sa game I've bounced off of, and
I know, we get this emailand I never have answers for this.
This happens quite a bit where it'slike I don't have an answer. What's
(11:31):
the game you bounced off of andthen came back to and really enjoyed.
Uh, Dishonored right now? Isthat game for me? And I think
what happened was I finally just gavein and was like, I need to
use I'm a hoarder when it comesto in game items, like hey,
these crossbow bolts are these limited useitems I will just hold onto and I
thought at some point I was justlike, I'm gonna use them. I'm
(11:52):
gonna use these things. I'm gonnause the tools they gave me. I'm
gonna burn through mana, I'm gonause all these manna potions, and I'm
I'm just really enjoying it. Haveyou guys played actually using the things suddenly
discover the fun in the game.Yeah, yeah, yeah, Like it's
a hard habit to break just holdingonto that stuff and just kind of but
(12:16):
I realized at some point I'm gettingI'm passing by enough of these where it
says, hey, you're maxed. You're maxed on this, right, that's
like, okay, I need touse this. Yeah, and uh,
and I hunted down a bunch ofthe relics that get you the upgrades for
that helping some of the traversal.Oh I remember that, yeah, yes,
with the beating heart. Yeah yeah, the beating heart. Yeah,
(12:39):
excited excited whale oil and that's yeah, that's right, that's right. Did
you finish it? I genuinely can'tremember. Okay, whale oil. That's
right, whale oil. Uh.There is a thing that I'm not appreciating,
which I guess they give you adifferent ending if you maybe murder your
way through that game, and it'sit's kind of shows you at the end
(13:01):
of a mission screen like, hey, murder a lot of people because my
god, damn assassin. That's whatit's called honored. You got you got
like seven abilities here at the bottom. That's say, uh, let's say
here, here's a head. It'san easy way to kill people called honored.
It's not you're you're you're you're akilling people person, like that's what
(13:22):
you're supposed to do. Uh soyeah, so yeah, I'm I'm like
a lot of the powers seem likethey are death oriented, so I want
to use them. I don't know. I don't know enough about it to
worry about. Hey, don't hey, don't sweat it like it's not a
big deal, or yeah you can, maybe you get them bad. I
don't know. I don't know. But my plan is to play it,
(13:43):
and I want to play it onI'm playing it on the Xbox to mineral
that stuff came to a game pass, all that, all that, but
that's the stuff. So it's onXbox games. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
so it's there. My plan isto play it and I want to
play two in that DLC, whichI heard so many good things about.
So that's that's what Vinnie's playing forfun zis right, That's cool. It
(14:05):
is cool, thank you. I'mstarting to I'm starting to get a little
annoyed with the incongruency between PC gamePass and Xbox game Pass, and I
a part of me is maybe moreupset at it than the average person,
(14:26):
just because like sort of when theUltimate game Pass thing was starting, I
was like, you don't need anXbox right because you I mean, look
all the all the exclusive all theexclusives, all like those Day One God
to Play THEMS presumably will hit PC. Uh but I feel like there is
(14:46):
a couple of games here and therethat are just not on Game Pass for
PC. They're on games for Xbox. But I just wish all that was
SYNCD up if they could be.You know, I realized if the games
I've built for PC, you can'tjust have that. Yeah, but uh
yeah, game Pass PC a bitof a bit of a letdown. And
you know, I don't know,it's just not a letdown, but it's
(15:09):
just I just wish there was moreconsistency. Can I get some consistency with
my multi platform gamings? Yeah, you're not right, You're not wrong.
It's okay. Good. Finally Ineed to pass. I need to hear
seriously and I need to hear that. But I'm not wrong. I just
need to hear that every now andthen. Thank you, it's thank you.
(15:30):
Well, we have a question later. I think about playing on PC
versus consoles and all that stuff, and that'll probably come back up around.
Wow, I've never been asked aboutthat before. Yeah, yeah, well
you know, it's a check checkthem back in we're gonna check We're gonna
check back in on it. Whatelse, Oh, Alex, you and
I played a little bit more ofthe dark Side of the Mood, which
was a lot of fun. Andyou can check out that uh quick look
(15:52):
there. That game takes a leapfrom where it starts to where we ended
up in that quick look. Yeah, that is some real like that.
That's not a small jump like that'sa chasm from Boy, my kids are
missing what's going on to where itends up. That is boy, I
(16:14):
respect it, but my god.Yeah, I'm curious to see where it
goes. I know some people wanta backlard if you're wondering what happened in
backlard, he's taking as mic apart. He's known a little mid game repair
here. I want to I wantto see where that goes. Yeah,
I want to see where that goes. It's weird. I don't know if
(16:37):
I want to do a full playthrough. It's a very narrative heavy game.
I felt a little weird when wedid the contradiction when I know a
lot of people bought contradiction, Butthen you know, I don't know.
I like to support FMV is verynear and dear to my heart, I
would like to make sure that peoplehave the money to make those silly games.
(16:57):
Then it's been six here since welast really brought the rooper booth to
the site. I know, Ifeel like maybe that's been long enough.
Maybe it's time. I know,I don't know. It's only a fourteen
dollars game, but I also don'tthink it's very long. I think we
may have already gave us like threeor four hours. We have already played
the majority of it between the premiumand free. So anyway that that game
(17:23):
seems like I enjoyed that stuff, and I said it during the quick look.
It's one of those things. Alsoyou realize how hard video is and
filming is, and audio and timeof day takes getting takes and time of
day shooting and all this dialogue, and we're so used to everything just being
(17:44):
perfect and the perfect video and whenyou when you re see something that's like,
oh, you shot this seed throughoutthe course of a day, because
in the in the uh, youknow, previous shot, it was twelve
and years afternoon and now it lookslike it is, you know, seven
yet night, and it's like that'shard. You can't. That's that's hard
(18:07):
anyway. Brought me back to daysof shooting independent movies and working on them
and being like, no, you, I can't fix this in post.
I can't fix this in post. There's no sun outside. I could put
the day Tonight filter on. Letme tell you something. You're right,
yeah, just just to reciprocate youare right as as an early two thousands
(18:32):
video editor, I am right.I understand nowadays there's all sorts of tricks
and the Matt paintings and all yourtrackings. I've learned a lot since then.
Two yeah, for sure, becausewhen I was in school studying film
production and and doing the hands onstuff. Oh, I still have so
(18:52):
much like regret. Not regret becauseit's what could I do about it?
But I'm just frustrated because I graduatedright as the entire world was going over
to digital. So like my firstyear was cut and splicing, my senior
year was fucking avid. Like ifthat makes anything, like they do what
(19:14):
you need to do in your school. Yeah, it was an early version.
So and now being married to aTV producer, U, oh my
god, what they do is justcheating. It's just cheating, Like I'm
talking about scenes that are completely filledwith snow that you would never in a
(19:37):
million years guess that it was themiddle of August in Brooklyn when they shot
it. Yet, like, oh, it's it is unfathomable. How much
can be done. And and I'vesaid this before just because I find it
so cool, a lot of veryskilled people. The best the best effects
are the ones you don't know arethere, and those are like painting out
(20:02):
shit, adding stuff in. Oh, we can't have that, Like things
like that that Starbucks cup from theYeah, well that is that keave my
wife fucking nightmares by the way, like she want oh my god, but
no. The show, the showshe's working on now, it's very it's
(20:25):
a comedy on conversational. It's veryfunny show. It's a second season.
And it's like they the things thatthey just are like, yeah, you
know what, we'll just make thewallpaper in that room different, and I'm
just like, huh, we'll justdo that. Huh. My brother,
My brother did a post for alittle while there for commercials and it's very
much the same thing. I'm like, this is all great, except that
(20:48):
person's shirt needs to be red notblue, and Okay, you got it.
Yeah, Hey, that this houseis just it's not working. We
want this house to be the colorof our product. You just change the
color of it, yes, uh, yes, do you have a minute.
Sure, let me do that. And it's just it's a lot though,
because like you know, she shemanages a lot of the FFS houses,
(21:11):
right, Like she goes down findsthe vendors and like gets the special
effects created. And the show she'son now, they do a lot of
like video game stuff, so she'llbe like, I need like a pixels
looking video game that is like adungeon crawler sort of thing, and then
like send her a wire frame first. And you're like, it's just this
very cool process that I don't know. I think she's real cool. I
(21:36):
still think making a full on movieor TV show is insanely complicated. It
is. It depends on still whenthings have gotten easier, tools have simple,
extremely so many people, so manymoving parts. Yeah, like I'm
we're watching wand Division right now,and I'm and she's just like, I
would never work on the show. She's just like, I wouldn't do the
(21:59):
rephrase. This seems insane. Yeah, why would anybody wanted six months of
your life in the same green screen. There we go. Sounds so insane.
All right, Alex, what you'vebeen up to? Oh, let's
see, I mean some of thesame games. I think last week I
said that I had gotten to thelast chapter and fights in tight spaces,
and I was really worried that assoon as I booted it back up,
(22:21):
I was going to immediately die.And that's exactly what happened. So okay,
I'm now working my way back.So that was how long have a
run was that? I don't know, A couple hours? Okay, yeah,
I'd say roughly. And then Mondonwe finally recorded a quick look for
that that is up on the side. Join me. Hey, can we
tell? Can we say? There'sa secret Alex and Vinnie mundan quick look
(22:45):
that the world will never see?I don't know, kind of chuggy.
So we couldn't. We couldn't useit. So I know all about the
goats and the and the and thepeepaw in the in the shed with the
pipe. I know everything, notjust people. I was having a bad
time. Don't don't shake hands withthe devilman, So I can't tell you.
(23:07):
Uh So that's up on the sitenow. I just opened up today
and played the first day of CozyGrove. Okay, what's that It is?
Uh? An animal crossing like thatmaybe has a little bit in common
with something like a spirit farer. So it is a game where you are
(23:30):
some kind of scout, a spiritualscout, I forget what they called you,
but you are a bright eyed cartoonmoppet that is dumped on this island
and you are told like you needto you know, commune with the spirits
of this island to get your meritbadges and all that stuff. But the
(23:52):
what's on the island is the ghostsof bears ghost bears, Okay, and
they're there. They live animal crossing. Need yeah, go s barack with
them. You do chores for them. I think the idea is by working
(24:14):
through each of their individual narratives, you will eventually allow them to find peace
in the next life or something alongthose lines. Like I said, I've
only done one day of it.It's one of those games that's very much
designed to Uh. You have aboutlet's say, twenty to thirty minutes of
actual work to do, and thenthe rest of it is well, now
you can go run around the islandand fish and collect things and you know
(24:34):
whatever else, but there's no moreactual things for you to do today,
and at some point it's just likethe only thing to do is go to
sleep. Yes, okay, presumablyI don't know, I said, I
I've just played through the first day. It is a very cute art style.
The ghost bears are very adorable. You're very adorable. Everything that's very
nicely detailed on the island. It'sit's maybe a little busy sometimes visually,
(24:57):
like it's sometimes harder to maybe discernwhat is the thing I can pick up
versus what is a thing that isjust background? But I think you figured
that out pretty quick. Is it'snot on a real time clock like Animal
Crossing though, right it is?Oh it is so like oh so you
have to like say, all right, I'm done for the day, not
the game day, but like todayI'm not playing this. Yeah, it's
(25:18):
on a real time clock, likethere's a little clock in the bottom right
corner, and you know, Ihaven't really seen what the like how the
game uses that yet. Okay,Like if there's a difference between doing stuff
at night versus doing stuff at day, that day. But it's there,
and you know, I mean,it looks it's definitely a diversion in the
way that like an animal crossing isa diversion. It is not like a
(25:41):
particularly intensive or you know, gameplayheavy game. But it's it's it's charming
out of the gate, I willsay, and you know, it's very
cute. Multiple safe slots. Itdoes have multiple safe slots. I don't
never want to have to buy acar with you, Vinny. Why that
the car have a multiple save thoughtstires? It's come with the tires.
(26:07):
Good, we should get this one. No, you gotta. You gotta
dig up three C shells before youcan get an alternator. Yeah, animal
cross and when it would come itwouldn't. They'd be like, Ah,
we don't provide gas. That's athat's an extra. That's an extra seven
hundred dollars. What well did youbring your own gas? No, we
can only have what who's driving?Okay, well we only have one driver
on this car, ever, sowho's you gotta pick it? Now?
(26:29):
Who's driving? Whose car? Isthis? My wife can't drive? Oh
no, Bear is driving? No? No you, oh no, you
gotta buy another car for her?She can't drive. She you want another
car? Uh, it's true. It's funny because it's true. So,
uh, Cozy Grove talking about it'son everything. I think I'm playing it
on PC. I've got a switchcode that I'm just gonna pass off to
(26:51):
my girlfriend because she was interested init. But yeah, I think it's
on ay platform. It just droppedtoday, so goes a Grove. Yeah,
probably have more to say about thatnext week. That name cool,
I like a Cozy gram anything elsegoing on? Yeah, the other thing,
uh, the last bit of DLCfrom the Civilization six New Frontier Pass.
So, like for the last yearand change, they've kind of been
(27:14):
doing these semi regular updates where theywill add new sieves, some new gameplay
variants that you can kind of throwinto the mix. And so we're now
at the end of that. Andit was a forty dollar thing. It
was not a full expansion, butit was still forty bucks for all the
new sieves and all new content. And you know, the sieves are good,
Like I'm always happy to have moreof them, you know, like
(27:36):
it's it's it's never a bad thingto have more to choose from. But
I would say that the gameplay stuffthey did was a little more interesting than
just the adding of the new civilizations. Like there's a bunch of new checkboxes
and those new modes they do,like, Like, for instance, one
of the ones I like is theSecret Society's mode, where at some point
(27:59):
early on, you will encounter, either through a city state or somewhere else,
evidence of some sort of secret societythat you can join. And what
happens is that, like there's anew tier in your Governor's menu where you
have like this secret governor. Overtime, when you add you know,
the new like governor promotions to it, you will get new secret bonuses that
(28:21):
come along with having being a partof that society. Also, other cives
that are part of other societies willrecognize that you're part of this other society.
That's what I want to be waryof you. That's what I want
creeping into my games. Is thatGeorge Washington was doing look at his hands
and looks all right, like that'snot what they're doing. But so there's
(28:42):
that. There's also these Heroes ofLegend is like another mode that you can
do where you can when you discovera new hero, you can dedicate one
of your cities to them, andonce you do that, you can unlock
this new hero unit that will dosomething kind of ridiculous, like okay,
Like like one of the ones youcan do is they will just go around
(29:04):
and they will find all the bonusresources and they will just harvest them around
the map and then you get likebig like science and culture bonuses from doing
that. So the ideas you wouldsend them into areas that other sieves maybe
are occupying and steal all their shipdon't maybe don't take your own? Are
there? Are they like legendary figuresfrom the culture or I do believe,
(29:26):
well it's not culture specific, butI believe they are taken from like various
cultural folklores across the world. Likethere's another one. You can go and
you just go into a city statethat you're allied with, and you can
immediately levy their entire military for free. So if you just want to like
get a bunch of soldier units andgo fuck someone up for free, you
can do that. Like, sothere's a whole I could see that would
be that would add a very newdynamic to the game. Yeah, there's
(29:49):
another one where it see it feelsa little bit you know that it was
that game Old I think it wasoriginally called Ten Crowns, but it's called
like Old World now, the onethat's like sort of the Sieves of Meats,
uh, Crusader Kings. That waslike that was a couple of years
ago, right, yeah, Okay, So like if you go and interact
with barbarian units they now have likeclans they're a part of and if you
(30:11):
interact and like develop a relationship withthat clan, I think they can actually
eventually grow into a city state andlike an ally, there's a lot of
different stuff. There's a fucking zombiesmode now. Uh and these are all
like different tick boxes you can decidewhen you're setting up a game you have
to use any of them. Yeah, exactly. I think that stuff is
a lot more interesting than the actualnew Sieves. They release most of what
(30:32):
you are good like that. Hesaid, they're they're fine. But church
Bell. Yeah, this guy ina dirt bike driving bottom. Yeah,
it really it sounded like a churchOkay, well nope, okay, not
even close. Not even the neighborhood. I gotta go. There's they're having
a duel. But anyway, sothat's that's all out now. So if
(30:55):
you've been holding off on spending thatforty bucks to see what it all looked
like, it's all out there.I think for me it was worth it.
Like, I think there was enoughthere to justify the expense. I
realized that that's the same price aslike a full expansion. But sure,
you know, I felt like theythey put a good amount of stuff in
there, and I'm pretty happy withmost of it. Are you ready to
close the buck on SIVE six?Literally? Never, never, ever,
(31:18):
ever, I will fight every threeor four months, I will get a
wild hair up my ass and I'llbe like, you know what, I
just I could spend a week playingthis again. What about SI seven?
Well, when that comes along,we'll talk. I mean, I haven't
really played SIVE five in a while, so I will say SIV six did
eventually finally take over for me?How many hours in seven hundred, let's
(31:41):
say in the hundreds, like lowhundreds. Okay, all right, good
for you. And well I didjust download the the euro Truck Simulator to
DLC, which is Syrian Peninsula, okay, okay, so it is Spain
and it is Portugal, okay, all of all, Well, you know,
they're they're yes, so that isout now. I have not tried
(32:04):
it yet though, so I'll havemaybe have more report about, you know,
driving around Porto. What's the stateof the American truck simulator? Wyoming
is next the state? What isthe state? Get it? Okay?
Nice? Wyoming is next. Wyomingis next, and then Texas is after
that. Okay, okay. Andthen for euro they just did Iberia.
(32:27):
They've been hyping that one for likealmost a couple of years now. And
then the next one is bigger Russia, even more Russia because right now there's
only a little bit of Russia. It is like the western western part of
Russia. Because Russia's real big.I don't know if you know that it
is huge. I actually watched avideo recently about like, well, damn
(32:51):
it is in Russia. Humongous, isn't it Russia? There's a lot of
Russia out there. Isn't the onlycountry that technically spans two continents. That's
it's like a trivia question. Chinanot reach into China, does not reach
outside of Asia, Okay. TheyIt was just wild how they were talking
about how many countries it actually borders, and it's like all of them.
(33:15):
Yeah, you know, something somethingreal weird. But it's also like the
population density is not super vast.Majority is in the western part of the
country, and then I think likethe eastern coast, but like a lot
of that, like eastern Middle isjust yeah, there's people there, but
not a lot of them. Yeah. Anyway, more Russia. Yeah,
big Russia, Big Russia, BigRussia, huge Russia. What is that?
(33:39):
I don't know that that was like, what's his name? Is that
your Russian accent? That sounds justlike my de Niro accent. No,
wasn't my Russian accent? Big Uscles? Is it? Coach McGurk, No,
that's not kay, I don't doa good h Sean Benjamin I and
(34:00):
have like deep gate for it.Yeah, Brendan, what are you doing?
Huge Brussels bred? Russias's real bigRussia's Russia's huge bred. Who's your
(34:20):
friends here? Is Russian bred?Apologies? I'm sorry, we got that
stuff. Knows things. He's goodthough, Okay, Yeah, who are
you doing? Who was it?Yeah? Was that? What was that?
I'm trying to remember it now,I now remember what that is from.
I remember It's just a line thatwas burned in my brain. But
(34:40):
no, it's a line from Kidsin the Whole Brain Candy. Oh,
Scott Thompson is realizing he's gay,and it's the reason he's realizing he's gay
is because he's finally remembering his experiencein the military with his sergeant who's just
like, we are going to beworking. Oh my god, right,
big muscles. Why don't imagine muscles? Was that guy played by Phil Hartman
(35:06):
or something? No, it wasMarpah Kenny. Oh, yeah, it's
kids in all It's just the kidsin the all guys. I think,
for whatever reason, I'm thinking itwas Phil Hartman. He's probably passed away
by then, but I don't remember, maybe not for I put him in
that situation because of so I marrieda next murderer. When they go tour
(35:30):
Alcatraz and Phil Hartman is like thewarden tour guide. Yeah. The only
non kid in the hall who makesa cameo in that movie is Brendan Frasier.
Very briefly, man, I've seenBrain Candy twice and when he's like
explaining what you know, they're tryingto like test out trial drugs and he's
(35:50):
talking about it he invented a pillthat gives worms squirrel friends. Yes,
it was worms ex girlfriend's very good. You just don't get it. That
movie there's a whole dance number right. Oh, it's so good. It's
a it's a delightful film that morepeople should watch. How many that movie
(36:14):
too? Not a lot, alot of practical, A lot of practical,
A lot of practical. Uh yeah, criminally underrated. Maybe maybe not
criminally, but uh yeah, thatmovie all right? Oh man. So
(36:40):
I have not played a lot ofvideo games this week, mostly because I'm
I don't really have that much too. I do have a couple of things
in the queue, but I've beenvery busy otherwise. My son was on
his spring break and we ventured outto one of those retro arcades the other
day. Look at you and letme tell you something. If you can
(37:02):
find a restro arcade at two o'clockon in the middle of the day and
not have anyone else in that placewith you, yes, go do that,
because my goodness, oh we Imean we had a finished Ninja Turtles
arcade. We had to finished XMen arcade, which you can actually do
(37:22):
in a really short amount of time. When you say finish, is it
like, hey, you pay entrancefee and then all the games are free.
Is that? Yeah, yeah,it's like you're paid by the hour
thing. Okay, this place,I've been to you before, but never
with this much access, with itliterally being completely empty. You know.
It's interesting, like we were playinga lot of the racing battling games that
(37:45):
were like definitely a thing in theeighties, like yeah, arcade racing,
but also battling like your tutle cars. No, no, we're like one
car. You're in a race, but you're battling. Yeah, stuff like
that. But then like other knockoffones like a bump and jump kind of
thing down like table Time. They'retop down and almost like a vertical screen
(38:07):
and it's the wheel has like triggerson the wheel and you're and you're turning
it. I didn't really maybe catchthe name of this one specifically, but
there were a lot of those typesof games, like it's Multiplier, noh,
like Roadblaster, It's something like that. Yeah. Yeah, I never
really dug super deep into this place'sreally historical archive. They've got like mint
(38:30):
conditioned cabs from like the seventies inthere. They're just like oh yeah,
and they're all in minting like thisthis Simpsons are kidding all those you know,
they're not super old, but likemint mint condition in a way I
can't destroy it. It's like,oh, they have to be. They
have to be, like you know, there's no way these are original conditions.
(38:52):
Yeah right, but just restored. And you know all the look like
when I go into a place andall the pinmall machines are like clean,
all the bulbs have been replaced.L D's like, you know, these
these people take care of these games. Many cigarette ferns on the zero.
Yeah, but that's what I'm saying, Like everything is just really an unbelievable
(39:15):
condition. But like you know, the old seventies ones have like the wood
grain like deep vinyl on them andstuff, and that's cool. There's just
one one game I was playing wherelike a little marble comes out and there's
a ver a horizontal rod that's telescopingand you can like move each end of
it independently and get the marble toavoid falling through a white that's the beer
(39:37):
game, and a beer that's likefrosty Beers or something, isn't it,
And then what it's called like itfeels like it was a drink theme.
Yeah, but it wasn't. Itwasn't very obvious. Na, it's just
like a beer and mechanical. Yeah, and you go like left right,
left, right and try to getdrinks. Drink, drink, drink that
beer. I have a hell awayeven look it up. Yeah, what's
(39:59):
the internet? I nobody in thechannel. No, it's a it's a
pretty Uh I want to say, drink something, ice cold beer. I'm
just gonna look that up anyway.Wow, talk about the worst searcher.
Yeah, that's it. It's icecold beer up seriously. Yeah, so
(40:23):
it's made by Tito And uh,there are like ten circled Yeah, they're
like these circled sort of holes thatare littered on the playfield and you basically
move these in these rods up anddown with two joysticks and you got to
(40:45):
basically balance this marble. And asyou get higher up on the playfield,
it's it's impossible. It game's impossible. But yeah, but it was functional.
That's an important part. That's whatI'm saying, like in perfect,
perfect, perfect condition. Uh yeah, I mean it's just yeah, the
(41:07):
place is just wildly, wildly funand I'm trying to empty, and I'm
afraid we're going to realize everything withice a purple apple alcohol, Like in
a year or two's gonna be like, oh, it ate through all the
plastic. Like I'm half joking, like, well, there wasn't a report
the you know, I think I'veread in the Times this morning about how
(41:30):
like, yeah, maybe we don'tneed to like scrub surfaces and the way
we've been doing uh the last year. But yes, it's dope. This
place is dope. A lot oftrackball stuff. But I did find interestingly
enough that my kid just isn't superinterested in that, you know, pre
(41:51):
nineteen eighty eight sort of stuff.Like I think he just sees like vectors
or I mean he sees Ninja turtles. Maybe it's a Brandy's familiar with it
is like, oh, I'm allover that. I love the beat him
up stuff. He sees X Men, wants to play the Simpsons thing.
But the second he sees something thatyou know, look it looks a little
lane kind of have to use yourimagination, he's just like, no,
this is bullshit. But here's thekid who just loves pinball and all kinds
(42:15):
of pinball. So I think whatyou're doing in pinball does not require a
lot of like mental interpretation, youknow, it's just like you're playing the
game. The game is. Yeah, I mean there's a lot of action
there. I think that's what itis too, I think he you know,
but for the same reason we're like, you know what, I was
like, Oh, I don't reallywant to play sent the Peede either,
(42:37):
you know, like I don't wantto you know, I get trackball stuff
is good. He liked Marble Madness. They had a really good cab of
that tough game. He got realfrustrated real quick. Yeah, but like
super fun couple of light guns stuffhe was into, and uh, just
(42:57):
just a lot of fun. Themost modern one they had there was Area
fifty one. Okay, okay, dads, a little kids. Yeah,
that's the beauty of it. Oh, they know they're audience. It's like
littered with those foldable collapsible U stepman and yeah, I assume just dead
empty, right, dead empty.I mean, you know, for better
or worse. You know, Ifigured I was talking to the manager on
(43:21):
our way, I'm like, youguys, right, like you see,
he said he was. They wereabout about fifty percent capacity on the weekends
and stuff at like their prime time. So I was like, all right,
He's like, yeah, we're notgoing anywhere. I'm excellent. And
he's like, oh, I wantto charge you for you know, you
were only here an hour an hourand a half, so I'll charge for
an hour. I go, no, charge that. Okay, let's let's
(43:45):
stick around. Yeah. So yeah, so that sounds fun. That was
fun. And then again Game ofVault in Morristown, New Jerseys. An
other thing that I found myself doingafter we had Lucy and Jake on the
show last week. Lucy introduced meto this thing called Notion, which is
(44:07):
a sort of like personal organization platformthat she tracks her video games on.
And I basically transferred a Google sheetI had into Notion to track all my
games and stuff. And I'm onlythree days in, but I gotta say,
(44:28):
like, this is the way todo it for me. It is
free for personal use. It allowsyou to database a lot of stuff.
It's a very powerful database that letsyou kind of view data in many different
ways. There's a bit of alearning curve. Did you have to be
(44:50):
a little sort of savvy with understandingbasic kind of logic with databasing and that
sort of stuff to get really themost out of it. But they allow
you to view data bases through likea can band board that is it's called
I think it's can band KA NB A N I hope, I'm yeah,
can band And that's basically just likecolumn organization. So like you have
(45:14):
a field at the top, sofor your organizing video games, it's like
unplayed, right, and then Ihave a field that a columns says active
and then a column that says finished, and you basically just drag everything and
you kind of like allow yourself toyou know, when you start when you're
For me, I play like atcertain times, I'll play you know,
(45:35):
eight games that I'm sort of spinningthe plates on some of them I forget
about because you know, a monthgoes buy and you're just like, oh,
I made some progress in this game. I forgot about. It just
helps me better visualize all the stuffthat I've touched. I like them.
I'm gonna look into it. I'mgonna look into it for my horrible collectionitis
stuff sometimes. I mean it's justyou know, it's like for me,
(45:59):
I'm I'm sort of like an organizationnut where I just need to have kind
of a little bit of at leastthe illusion of control over all that everything.
Notion is giving me that feeling.Okay, you know, it's giving
me that satisfaction. So there's amobile version of it as well. It
is free for personal use, andI'm starting to like see if I can
(46:21):
use it to kind of organize otherstuff. But it's super powerful and I
definitely recommend it, and thank Lucyagain for that recommendation for sure. Okay,
I still need more recommendations for amultiplayer game, I got a lot.
I got like seven or eight realgood ones that I I I tried
(46:44):
out with with my crew, andthey really pushed back on it. You
gotta let them think, you gottayou gotta inception them. You gotta let
them think they discovered it, Iknow. And they were like, they
were like, what about Fall guys. I'm like, yeah, we could,
we could play Fall Guys. Andwe tried it and there was a
lot of like laughing. But thatlasted two nights and we and that supposed
(47:06):
to last. So I you know, I think it does need to be
either action or shootery, you know, Like I said, the the notion
of like all being a part oflike a g TALL like a GTA heist
sort of thing is really something Iwant to get involved in with with with
(47:27):
these people. Again, this isnot your responsibility. I were listening audience.
It is my responsibility. I justI'm open to recommendations. Did you
try Vermin Tide M Tide too?You think that would No? I I
don't think. I don't even thinkthat's worth the download, Like, I
don't think. How about are theyon They're only on console? Uh yeah,
(47:52):
and they're pretty much only on PlayStation. Okay, there's that Destruction All
Stars game. I don't know ifthat's that's up there alley at all.
You know, I I started playingthat. I thought it was interesting.
But how many how many in yourcrew? These guys suck? They suck
so bad, these guys. Howmany in your crew at any given time?
Any minimum of three, maximum ofeight? Oh boy, that's okay,
(48:17):
I know, I know it's it'san impossible task, which is why
you know, call duty kind ofis the only really thing that fit that
you need to be able to getthree to eight in a group at the
same time. Yeah, alright,we're like I'd say that, you know,
we could probably get away with fourbecause then we could split up.
But would you be able to dodeep Deep Brock is good, but it's
(48:39):
a person. It's good, butthere's no h it's only on Xbox in
PC. What's what's the one thatwe played Alex where it's really dark in
the g that's only on PC's onPC? Okay, I think that's only
three as well, right, Yeah, A lot of people, a lot
of people were like all about DeepRock Remnant from the Ashes that that just
(49:00):
went on something on Plus. Actually, yeah, but I don't know that
one. I am. Yeah, look again, this is my problems,
my problems. Yeah, you keepbringing it to our show, so I
assume it. Put it in justtwice. This is the last time I'll
do it. Put put them inNotion and then put your notes down and
see uh no, no down. Not even notion can fix this problem.
(49:22):
Track the track, what their resultsare? All right? I got it?
Heye, and I we're just talkingnonsense now. I got one of
the watches that track like how youmove, one of those one of those
things called like a fitness watch whatever. And because I kind of have like
(49:42):
a higher heart rate in general, like you know, yeah, I've always
kind of had it. I don'tknow. I don't want to get too
much into it. What are youat? What are you at? I
think my resting is like somewhat normal, like sixties seventies, but like it
jumps up there. If I gowalk around, I'm I'm like ninety two
one hundred pretty quickly. And thenI walk, you know, I think
(50:06):
the watch has to get so Iwalked to you know, go get a
coffee or something. It's like,Wow, you burned seven hundred calories,
good job today, but you're you'rekilling it. What kind of fitness tracker
you got there? You're you're nailat it today. And then I'll do
like I'll do my bike in theindoor bike that I think calculates a little
better. Maybe a don't calorie burnsare dumb or watch? I guess I
(50:30):
don't know, but it's like, what kind of what you have? Are
you using like a legit one orare using one you've ordered three? Like
it was No, it was anexpensive one. It was like it was
a couple of hundred bucks. Ifyou have a fitbit, No, it's
a garment. It's a garment twofive actually didn't fit bit by garment or
(50:50):
something like that. I'm not hereto promote my watch. I'm just saying
it's been it's been kind of whack. You know. I've been doing like
the calorie tracking, trying to loseweight and trying to get a little take
a little bit more control over mylife as a you know, as I
approach the half century mark here, try to like, you can't just keep
doing that. You're not there yet, And I fine, anyway, it's
(51:19):
uh, it's funny to track,uh and look at you know. It's
you know, I've got high cholesterolin my family. I've got stuff I
need to I need to be awareof. That is you know, fairly
serious that I need to look at. And I just want to avoid being
on you know, it's always thething of like, hey Ben, get
this down, we'll be good.Otherwise we got to put you on something.
I always just wanted to avoid thatstuff. So I'm trying trying to
(51:44):
go for a little technology in there. Yeah, it's tough. I'll tell
you what. I don't like trackof calories. I like eating no calories
suck. Calories are bad. Everythingshould be no calories. Who wants to
eat two slices a pizza. That'snot enough. That's a big star.
(52:06):
Well, if we're talking like abig Sicilian pithing, you have like sixteen
little squares on there, pretty bigsquares. It just makes me feel miserable
when I look back to be like, wow, before I was shocking calories,
this was an eight thousand calorie meal. This was Oh I knew.
I didn't get here accidentally. Iknew this was a chosen path. But
(52:27):
this has been a long drawn outprocess calories, and I knew it.
And there's no surprise here, butjust laid out bare right there. Oh
yeah, everything is ruined by math, everything, everything, everything, space
sucks. It sucks that you gottacount all the calories, right, some
(52:50):
of them that's nothing, you know, that doesn't count. Well, some
of them I don't count, SoI don't count. I don't count my
tea. I don't put that in. I put a lot that's like seven,
that's right, So I don't want. I don't A coffee has like
two calories. I don't count acoffee. You know, I drink it
black. I don't put sugar init. Even the tea. I only
put a little bit of sugar, and I use like almond milk, which
is like you know, all calorie, but they amount I put in.
(53:12):
I don't track that stuff and Ifigure out, but I don't also add
back in the exercise because I'm notI'm not killing it. So I always
figure, hey, here's a littlebit of a buffer. I'll just have
a little buffer. I see Marty, I see he sees us. Hey,
Mary, all right, anything elsebacklar you want to get into.
No, I think that's it.I think, uh, I think that's
(53:36):
all I have for this week.Okay, Well, I think we'll take
a little break here and we'll comeback with the well a little bit of
all the news. We'll burn somecalories on some news. You know what
I'm saying. Yeah, all right, yea. During the break, you
can you know, make a duty? Oh boy, do you have to
make a duty? Brendon. Herewe go and we're back folks. Hello
(54:07):
boy, I must forgot we hada didn't find the ad there. I
was like, wow, I exportedthis where I didn't put it in.
The thing wasn't in the hopper. But we did it. We did it.
I did it, you did it, I did it. I did
it all right, I do,dude, I did, I did do?
(54:30):
Uh, Alex Navarro. Last weekyou pulled the news and we read
the news. This week, hepulled the news and you get the read
the news as well, but weread them in your voice. Oh how
did that sound? I thought it. I thought I enjoyed it. Did
you worked out? Okay? Ithink it worked out. Yeah, it
(54:51):
was good. We got through it. We did it. I think we
knew what you mean. We did. We did it. We got through
it. Well, no one tweetedme clips of it, so I assume
it wasn't offensive. Well, wedidn't do it your voice voice, we
did it, yea, and thelike, Oh, this is what this
is why this is the editorial voice, Alex. This is what he was
going for him, right right,Alex? What do you got this week?
(55:13):
Oh? We got some things. Some stuff happened. Let's talk about
it. Three three, let's talkabout E three No longer the Electronic XPO.
Well, actually it's more electronic Expothan ever. Okay, brother,
because it's an all digital event. This they not change your name to like
exhibition and instead of X it's stillE three. Okay, they are still
(55:36):
calling it. Okay, why Whyare they still calling it D three.
I don't know, because that's abrand people recognize. No, I mean,
like, what is happening this year? Okay, so they are doing
an all digital event. My understandingbased on the announcement is that the main
E three, the thing that isthe show, will take place this year
(55:57):
between June twelfth and June fifteen.Okay. They have announced commitments from a
number of significant publishers Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Ubisoft, Take Two,
Warner Brothers, Coke Media, andof course Konami. Yeah. I thought
I thought they were out of thegame. I think they might be getting
(56:19):
back into the game. Okay, but yeah, so there's there was some
rumored stuff about like them maybe doingsome media stuff the week beforehand, but
it sounds like the the actual Ethree event will be taken around in this
top taking place around this time. They still want to do an in person
E three again next year, butthis this year will not be that.
(56:43):
It will be an all digital event. What are we doing? This is
it the premium path thing? Whatare we doing? Do you know?
So it sounds like according to thisthis release three twenty one content will be
free to access thanks to unannounced globalmedia partners, so sponsorships. I'm sponsoring
the content, and therefore that makesit so people can watch this stuff.
(57:05):
I want to say, if you'rea sponsor, you kind of want to
be announced, but maybe they'll getto that later at some other day.
I feel like, if you're somekind of dark money laundering money through E
three, then maybe you want tostay unannounced. But you mean the EESA,
Yeah, that's that's right. Thatwe gotta dump this money, we
gotta we gotta clean this money. How do we do it? Allegedly?
Allegedly? Allegedly? Okay, allright, so who's missing from this list?
(57:30):
All right, well no EA,obviously because they haven't done E three
in a while. Okay, well, they did their own thing. Yes,
there's no Activision on this initial there'sno square Enix on this initial Squeenix
out, okay, and no Sony. Well, Sony hates E three.
We know one hates three. That'snot that's not news. Everyone fucking hates
(57:51):
E three. Uh well, yeah, so Sony is probably gonna do their
own thing. I wouldn't be surprisedif the majority of these other companies also
do their own thing. There's gonnabe a lot of doing your own things
in the course of the summer.I think. Okay, all right,
what were the dates again, Junetwelfth through the fifteenth of June. Okay,
I mean yeah, get hype sure, hey yeah, yeah, yeah,
(58:16):
yeah, hey yeah? Why not? Yeah that virtual c Yes was
great? Was it? Yeah? That was great? Okay. I believe
the voice. So this is nota lying voice. That sounds like a
true voice. Hey, if Ilike seeing the new stuff in video games
and what they have to offer. So but you're going to see that regardless
(58:37):
of if there's any three or not. Yeah, that might be true.
Have a light. Yeah, maybewe'll share it with the kids, or
maybe we'll maybe we'll just be sittingtalking over it and I won't do that
at all. We'll see. Iwant you three to be good, you
know. I want it to bea thing that I flocked to. Okay,
you know, yeah, I will. I will look forward to this
(59:01):
electronic experience, electronic entertainment experience,Alex. What else is going on game
Pass? We talk about it alot here. Generally we are fond of
it and the many, many gamesthat it provides. A little bit of
game Pass news broke over the lastweek, including one particular thing that happened
(59:22):
right after the podcast, which Ijust I still at least want to touch
on here. So there's some stuffcoming to game Pass this month. Most
of it's, you know, noneof it's really super exciting. I will
say grand Theft aut of five iscoming back to game Pass after not having
been there for a while. Weown how rock stars lunch thing is doing.
I don't know, but I haveto imagine it's a situation where they
(59:43):
just someone through a dump truck ofmoney at them and said what if you
came back to game Pass and theysaid okay? Or it could be you
know, maybe their thing was like, hey, look at this chart.
It goes down when we came offof game Pass. I will, let's
sell some more Shark. But yeah, yeah, yeah. But but so
that's that's officially launched back on gamePass as of today, will be on
cloud and on console. And theBig One, the Interesting One, the
(01:00:07):
Wild One here, MLB, theshow twenty one, the New MLB,
the show, the one that isappearing on Xbox for the first time this
year, is going to be ongame Pass at launch. Its power Move.
Yeah, I think it is apower you might have you might have
pulled a story about this before thiswas this was kind of or is this
(01:00:27):
the first time it was announced?I think this is the first time it's
officially been announced. We've talked aboutit coming to Xbox, but I don't
think that the game Pass stuff wasknown until late last week. Okay,
but so the really wild. Soon its face, this is a bizarre
thing because essentially Sony's Markie Sony. You know, they're only in house sports
(01:00:49):
title. It's already wild enough thatit's coming to Xbox, but putting it
on game Pass essentially making it freeto play for people who subscribed to game
Pass, whereas you have to paysixty bucks for that thing on PS five.
The economics of that are very strange, and a lot of people were
rightfully like, what is going onhere? Well, apparently the reason this
(01:01:12):
is happening, and Sonoy has comeout and said this is because MLB M'LB,
the organization is publishing the Xbox versionof the show twenty one, and
they are the ones that struck thedeal with Microsoft to bring it to game
Pass at launch. That Sony didnot make that decision. But like there's
(01:01:32):
there's no poor Sony in this situation, but there is a there is a
Sony which is like, oh,what is the MLB thing? Can somebody
just please tell me what is happening? What? How? How did this?
(01:01:55):
I'm going on vacation. I'm justI'm taking I'm taking. I'm taking
the days. Just I've got thedays. I'm just taking the days.
You figured it out. You guysfigured it out. You figured it out,
figured it out, and it's comingto Game Pass on April twentieth.
So okay, it's a wild thing. It's just it's it's a really weird
thing. And the whole nature ofthat relationship with MLB, then publishing the
(01:02:16):
Xbox version, all this stuff.I have a theory about how this is
all going to end up and saythat My theory is that within the next
year or two, we may seeSony divest themselves entirely of making baseball games
and maybe selling that whole thing offto someone else because they don't want to
deal with it. I don't thinkthat's like, that's just a total guess
(01:02:36):
on my part, but it justthe whole nature of this feels like if
they're getting strong armed by the licenser. Sony's not going to sit around and
just take that. Yeah, Likethey can find someone else to make MLB
the show and it will still cometo PS five and they don't have to
sit there and eat their pride everysingle time that show that game shows up
(01:02:57):
on game Pass year after year.Now, I don't think game I don't
think MLB doesn't do well, right, I assume it's like, no,
it does. The show one isthe only big console game that is a
simulation baseball game, like no disrespectto like Super Makeup Baseball, which is
a delightful game like franchise. Butis it the only relation? Is it
the only only MLB license? Iassume no? Yeah, no, no,
(01:03:20):
I thought they. I thought RBIBaseball has well that but that's not
that's not the same scale of productsthat we're talking. No, but it's
the all right, yes, butit's yeah, okay, I'm talking about
at this scale, like the themajor publisher putting it out like MLB two
K has not existed since I thinklike the mid Oughts. Well, here's
the thing, yeah here, Imean, I thought I thought all it
(01:03:40):
took was like the licensing of allthe players and the and all the and
all the stadiums and all the names. So here here's what I come into
the room. Jim Ryan's pacing backand forth, and I said, Jim,
Jim, Jim, Jim, Jim, Jim Jim, Jim relaxed,
Jimbo Jimbo ji Jimbo Jim Jam dingo, Jimbo d go and Jim relax didn't
(01:04:01):
go. You leave because this isthis conversation for Jim. Listen, before
we were just on Sony platforms. We're still gonna be on Sony plat not
everybody owns an Xbox and the PA, so people on it. So just
consider it. You know that stuffwill happen in the Microsoft world and we'll
still have the PlayStation people here,Jim relax, Jim, it's gonna be
(01:04:29):
fine. It sounds like a goodway to never be heard from again.
Jim, it's your mother, Jimrelax, it's gonna be on. It's
gonna be fine. People who areus, they love the baseball Jim,
and they love you and they loveyou anyway. Uh that's yeah, it's
not not weird. It is weird. It's just weird. Also, the
(01:04:50):
last of US two on Xbox gamepass Now that one's weird. Joe,
guys got jokes. I got him. I got him. I shouldn't use
him, but I got him. What else? Alex? All Right,
well, speaking of weird, thisis just I just want to briefly touch
on this one because this has beenthis this story has been passed around over
(01:05:12):
the last day or so, andit is maybe one of the single dumbest
things I've seen in a long time. Okay, So I guess GDC happened.
Online presentations for GDC happened a fewweeks ago. You know, I
wasn't really paying attention to that stuff, but they did happen, and Intel
was one of the companies that gavea presentation at GDC a few weeks back.
(01:05:34):
And what I guess the presentation theygave was for this new service they
want to launch called I think itwas part I think it was part of
it. I tried, I watchedit was part of the thing. So
bleep for those interested, is backend technology that I'm assuming uses some kind
(01:05:57):
of deep learning technology to filter outoffensive content in gaming stuff. So you
know, if you're talking about youknow, homophobia, name calling, racism,
sexually explicit language, white nationalism, for example, the full spread.
(01:06:20):
Many of these have sliders that youcan toggle on and off. For some
maybe you just want some sexually explicitlanguage, but most of the racism,
you know, like that's it.It's have you seen this image? I'm
looking at it. It is.When I saw the image, I immediately
(01:06:40):
is like, this is April. This is a joke. Yeah, of
course that was my immediate reaction.Says nobody would Nobody would allow this image,
even if it's a real thing toenter the Internet. Not a chance.
It's just like poor this fucking MatthewSoler sights looking dude who is just
standing there next to a tall goldthat says n word on Like that guy,
(01:07:03):
he didn't I don't know if heknew what he was stepping into.
But boy, it's this. Ilisten. There's a part of me that
is like, we don't want Yes, we want a better online community.
There are many doors. This onecould say, this one. I don't
(01:07:24):
think this one. I don't knowif this is the way. Let's say.
It's just they say to me thatsomeone at some point was like,
we're gonna let our users tailor theamount of places and they're comfortable now I
think, Okay, there's a partof me that is very deep down that
is not not even Devil's advocate thatit's just saying like there are because you
look at this listen, it's it'sjust it is a it is a parody
(01:07:46):
of a parody, right Yeah,And you're like, okay, well I
could see where at some point onthe white boards somebody was like, well,
you know, there are people whouse these words in their community,
not as a negative thing, sowe should be able to slide it right
to be like we're not sure ifthey're using it offensively or if they're using
it you know, and like,oh, that's a good idea. Yeah,
yeah, put a put a puta slider on the maybe'll just you
know, take it halfway down, because yeah, you're right, we don't
(01:08:10):
want to get in trouble there. That's we don't we don't want to do
that. I also, yeah,I forper Giant Bomb staffer Austin Walker said
on Twitter, it really should havebeen a slider between hard are and non
hard. Okay, I mean it'sfunny, but not funny. Also,
(01:08:30):
okay, the one that just getsme what you're just going down the list
is the one that just says underneathswearing on this graphic just says white nationalism.
Yeah, how much white nationalism doyou want in your video game?
Straight? Yes, I like it, Like I like hot sauce. I
wanted I want to put I wantedto push me, but not all the
way. You know, I'm doingFortnite and I'm doing really in depth reporting,
(01:08:51):
so I really need to make surethat we're gonna be talking about this.
So I need to make sure thatslider comes. I don't know,
man, I don't I have nothing. They're trying to solve a problem,
and I get that, but theyare trying to do it in the most
tech industry way possible, which isto say that they are trying to apply
a litany of weird technologies to ahuman problem. Like you're not going to
(01:09:17):
solve white nationalism. That's not goingto happen. It's so it's so it's
also so fucking stupid, because youare, you know, like you're based
on the fact that like there arenow some sort of psychotic fucking algorithm out
there that suns like, yeah,we deep learned all the N word into
(01:09:42):
this, and certain things fall intothe sum. Certain things fall into the
most and it's like, who areyou? Where where? Who are you?
The person? Who are you?The fucking person? Somebody go through
the slider and it's just like somethingsomebody thought Skynet wasn't terrible enough? No,
what if sky I was a racistwhite nationalist and like learned it all
(01:10:03):
from this filter on on here.Uh, this does so much more harm
than good too, Like the wholedoes so much more harm than good.
I'm I'm sure the intentions were good, were well, And intentions are always
good, but they're always like they'realmost always misguided too, and that's what
(01:10:24):
this is, is something deeply misguided. Fuck. I don't know. I
don't know what to say about this, except for like it I just needed
to point out because it haunts me. It's still about look at this,
and I still have trouble thinking it'snot a parody, Like I still intel
Intel. Yeah, it's only beena week since April first, just like
(01:10:45):
she was a preemptive one. That'show good we are. Just you guys
thought this was real. Just justsweep it under the April fool's rug and
we'll let this one's what my god, it'll slide it too far because like
like like, okay, just onelast thing to say here, there's a
there's a world in which this presentationhad a just a content filter that said
(01:11:13):
what did they say? None? Some most are all right, and that's
it. And then you just hadall this in the background behind a thing.
You didn't have a slider that saidwhite nationalism or or or name calling.
It just said content filter. Andyou're like, we're trying to filter
out objectionable content. Uh, Andpeople would have been like, that's wild,
and then people would try and testit and see what's in there.
(01:11:35):
And in the background, on aon a buried in a document that has
passed word correct protected, you hadthese sliders running that nobody ever saw.
But like just on its face, you gotta read the room a loot,
you gotta you gotta read it.You gotta look somehow. We don't know
(01:11:56):
how. We don't want to knowhow. Somehow a fully conceived and produced
SNL digital short found its way fromintels like somehow it found and it just
got published as a real thing. That's what happened. We don't want to
know. As a wormhole. Wedon't know. I'm gonna say this,
(01:12:19):
I'm gonna say this. If you'rea game developer, don't don't follow this
lead and like put this in theoptions for your for your thing. There's
look at we can try and makeit so, we could try and make
it so that this we have,we are not an ignorant society that doesn't
need sliders for white nationalism in ourin our on our computers. Like,
(01:12:42):
I don't know, there's I thinkthere are other paths we can go down,
but it's not for me necessarily toI really have nothing, I really
is. It still feels just somebody'sgonna say this was a joke. I
don't. Let's move on. Yeah, it feels very very very parody delicious.
It's so well, we live inthe dumbest possible age. So what
else we got? So we've talkedhere and there about how more than likely
(01:13:09):
we are still going to be seeinga whole litany of delays as this year
wears on. You know, lastyear a lot of games came out did
manage to come out, but thosegames were mostly done. Games that have
been in development since COVID times beganare finding themselves in a situation where they
are having to delay Death Loop,a game that it was supposed to come
(01:13:31):
out this summer, I believe, has now been delayed to September. This
is the second delay for the game. Oh yes, May twenty feet it
was original, it's original date.I'm gonna because of my selfish want to
play this game. But yeah,I'm looking forward to it too. Yeah,
but like you know, yet, yetta take the time where when you
(01:13:51):
you know, if you have itright. But like I'm looking at this,
you know, this Polygon story aboutit, and they're just they're they're
listening off other things, you know, the Lord of the Ring uh and
and Hogwarts Legacy we're pushed into nextyear that Amazon and Momo got delayed again.
Grand Turismo seven was delayed to twentytwenty two. Like, there's a
lot of stuff that was just kindof in the works, and you know,
(01:14:12):
I mean you've heard it from developerssaying that, like, you know,
we're we're operating, but we arenot operating at the speed we would
normally be prior to all of this, and that work still has to get
done. We don't want to putout garbage. Yes, I hope,
yep, yep, yep. Selfishly, I still want to play that game.
Though, Alex, I mean it'sstill this year like it at the
very least. It isn't like, hey, twenty twenty two, it's like,
(01:14:32):
hey, you're waiting three more months. Yeah. So I don't know,
so they No, I was gonnasay, so everything goes moves back
like the console exclusivity moves back tobecause I would assume that all that stuff
is built into launch dates sliding, like the whole thing slides. Someone out
(01:14:54):
there being like, oh, it'llget delayed so far, then it'll just
be launched. It's a multi platformday. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure
that doesn't work. Yeah. Development, Man, it sounds like it's still
really really development always tough. Mmhmm, tougher. Yeah. I was
looking at the story here. Okay, Uh, that's Death Loup delayed out
(01:15:16):
until September. September fourteenth, Ibelieve. Okay, there you go,
continue playing, Uh this, honoredAlex. What else? Uh? Well,
in the realm of games that arebeing turned into battle royals for the
sake of the switch, pac Manis now the latest one to get this.
(01:15:38):
It apparently launched yesterday on Nintendo OnlineService. It is pac Man ninety
nine, and it's very much inthat same vein of the the Tetris ninety
nine, the Super Mario's Brothers thirtyfive, which can you even still play
Super Mario thirty five or did thatdie with everything else? I never played
it, so I don't know.I don't know, but I know they
(01:15:59):
murder Mario, but I wasn't surehow many Marios they murdered. But this
is, uh, this looks kindof neat. Actually, Uh, this
this one I might check out.I didn't really do too much of the
Tetris ninety nine. Uh, thisone seems I watched the trailer for it,
and uh it seemed all right.I did a lot of Tetris ninety
nine. I did not do alot of Super Mario thirty five. I
didn't know. Yeah, this isI have. This is out now.
(01:16:24):
I didn't know this was It wasout as of yesterday. Okay, well,
I guess there are opinions already aboutit. Then probably this is where
nine nine folks are playing pac Man. And then if you eat a ghost,
it sends like a Jammer ghost ontosomebody else's screen, and I assume
there's targeting and the whole thing.Uh yeah, I like pac Man.
Pac Man still hold up. Youknow what you could also do just play
(01:16:45):
some fucking pac Man. You could, you could. That's one way to
do it. That's one way todo it. But who wants to do
that? Alex? What else?Yeah? Uh? Jeff Baco, Are
you like that Streets of Rage four? Right? Yes, I'm a fan
of that game very much? Doyou have news about that game for me?
Yes? I did? I alsolike that game. There is DLC
coming. Uh so there it isthe mister X Nightmare add on, which
(01:17:11):
I believe is out as of Ithink today it is. Let's see here
it is. There's three new characters, or one of the three new characters.
There's this Estella Quire. I don'tknow who that is, but I
maybe that's a character we already knowabout. Uh. New moves, new
(01:17:32):
weapons, uh some basically just newcontent for that game. If you are
if you want to play more Streetsof Rage four, do you have a
price on there? I don't havethat, handy okay, But there is
a free update I think also comingwith some new difficulty levels and things like
(01:17:53):
that. Okay, and no dateyet, right, it doesn't seem like
it, yeah, okay does thisyear? But yeah, okay, sorry,
no. Yeah, I was announcedtoday, but I don't know when
this is actually coming out? Uhand Alex, uh is this the last
one here? Yeah? It is? Okay, I don't know, like
(01:18:13):
I said, it is other thanthe first A couple of biggies that it
was kind of a slow news week, but you know this is Look,
we're now in the process of fourking everything. Four K versions of movies
are coming out again. Everyone's gettingthat HDR, which is which is great.
I love the HDR. I can'tget enough of it. Maybe I'll
get enough of it with Final Fantasyseven Advent Children. Yes, please,
(01:18:39):
that is getting a four K HDRrelease, I believe later this year.
So okay, yes, I've seenthis, but I don't remember a lot
about it, and I am notreally a Final Fantasy seven heads, so
I could not tell you whether itwas any good or not. It's kind
of indecipherable to me. Now theother Final Fantasy movie they put out,
(01:19:01):
the one they put in theaters withthe Spirits Within. Now, that's a
fucking movie, and buy a fuckingmovie. I mean, a pile of
garbage. But would I watch thatin four KHDR? I absolutely would.
I remember, I don't remember admunchildren explicitly, but I remember enjoying it.
I think there's a cool scene wherethey're like all throwing cloud into the
(01:19:24):
sky. I think that was coolscene. I think. I mean,
the thing I remember about it isthat it's it was very pretty. It
was very colorful. You know,I'm sure that will look nice in that
format, but I it's not athing that I have any real personal attachment
to. Final Fantasy Extended Universe ishere again. Spirits within though, that's
(01:19:45):
a creepy movie kind of yes, uncanny one might Yeah, well, you
know, like honestly, like youknock your soul out like that was like
these ghosts that like walk go throughyou ya. This guy, this guy,
it takes your cell out. Ithink, so as there? Yeah,
and who is the professor? Yeah, Donald Sutherland is there? Yeah,
(01:20:10):
virgin I think that was the leadactress. Oh man, that was
that felt. I think that's thepeak on the graph where right before that
everybody was saying they should just makea movie. These cut scenes look so
good, every like Blizzard or Square, they should just make a movie.
And then after that nobody said that. Everybody stopped saying that. We're like
(01:20:30):
Noah, I think I think itwas like Siskel and Eber really liked,
Uh, what's it? Why doI keep forgetting the name of it?
Spirits Spirits Within. Yes, Ithink they really like Spirits Within when it
came out, but almost no oneelse did. Okay, well they they
are huge anime fans. Backlar, you got some news on here. Yeah.
(01:20:50):
I thought this was interesting because wementioned last week when I talked about
e A uh getting its own golfthing. Oh, that was the thing
we read in your voice that Ireally liked. You were like, EA
would like to make a golf gameas well. I thought that was It
was like it was like vintage Navarroright there. Yeah. So I think
(01:21:12):
someone in the conversation was like,oh, the Masters are too pricey,
they'll never license it, or theyhadn't done in a while. Turns out
the Masters will be license and willbe in uh PGA Tour, e Sports,
PGA Tour Golf. Okay, sothat's exciting if you know that isn't
the game like PGA Tour Masters. No, oh, it's just a golf
(01:21:34):
Yeah. It's so going to getJim Nance to do the commentary. I
don't know about that. That'd bereally cool. No, that's not true.
There's asolutely nothing really cool about you. I was just gonna say,
is that cool if you're like authentic? But I don't think it would be
cool. Yeah, okay, sure, however you want to describe it.
But you know, the Masters isan expensive license, and uh it's you
(01:21:58):
know they got it in there? How about that? How about and it
hasn't been in a game since twentythirteen. Really so it's yes, so
they haven't. No Masters has appearedin a video game since twenty thirteens Tiger
Woods a PGA Tour fourteen. Nowwas the last time it was in a
game. No Kings, no Masters. There there you have it, you
have it? So so yeah, that's your Master's your Masters update. The
(01:22:24):
Masters are this weekend, I believe. Have you guys heard about this?
This this game abandoned? Do youknow what this is? Do you what
happened around? There was a trailerthat was released, uh by Sony for
this game called Abandoned, and almostimmediately conspiracy theory started to circulate that this
(01:22:45):
was a Kojima in disguise game allahPT based on what based on all the
clues are in there, based onsome real generous assumptions about what's going on
in this thing. Uh bottom line, it is not uh Kojima's next game
(01:23:08):
confirmed. He is working on something, and apparently uh is something with Microsoft.
Well, there's a rumor going aroundthat Microsoft is making a very aggressive
bid to try and get his thingnext thing locked up for theirs. So
we don't we don't know whether ornot that will remain to be seen,
but that seems to be the strongestrumor as of right now. I just
(01:23:29):
remember that Death Stranding was part ofthe Andrew House regime at Sony, and
I'm wondering if after he left, like the contact there might have kind of
dried up, like because Jim Ryanis not Andrew House. That's factually true,
that the charisma or the you know, maybe the same stroke that Andrew
(01:23:53):
House was pulling down. Sure, sure do you think death Stranding after development
cost is looked at? I betit is a success. I bet it
did fine, I bet it totallydefined. I don't know what A team
wasn't huge was the thing like,I mean, there were decent number of
people working on it, but itwasn't like I mean, I imagine they
spent a lot on actor salaries, but I feel like they were the stories
(01:24:13):
We're like, oh, it's like, you know, it's unlimited budget,
and then I would hear like,no, there's this is not actually that
you know, I did not breakthe bank on it. I am to
understand. Yeah, that's I don'tknow. I don't know. So,
yeah, I bet it did fine. So I bet Microsoft would be very
excited to have a could you,Matt, I mean that's always been the
Achilles heel, right, is Japanesedevelopment, Like they've tried many times over
(01:24:34):
to get Japanese publishers on Boss.Sometimes it just works, sometimes it extremely
has not. Yeah, yeah, okay, I you know, I get
h I don't know, Okay,tickled a little bit when something comes up
in the news that, even inthe most you know, the largest of
stretchways, somehow resembles PT in anycapacity. I still think that is like
(01:24:57):
the best thing that's really ever happenedin terms of just a weird community video
game experimental things. That was great. It was a beautiful time. It
was a beautiful moment, A beautifultime. What was that fifteen twenty fifteen?
Yeah, is it anyway? People? You know, people went a
(01:25:19):
little nutty with the you know, presumptions with this one. This game Abandoned
is a survival horror game that isvery spotty on the details, and the
developer U a place called Blue BlueBox Games, has almost no presence online
(01:25:39):
whatsoever. So a lot of eyebrowsraised and we're like, uh, what's
the what's going on? And anyway, it's not the case. So while
we're talking, I'm still hoping itis, but it's not. The While
we're talking about cool trailers, uh, one drop to this week that I
feel like people should go look upas this game called Harry Hallibit, which
(01:26:00):
I had never heard of before, but they dropped this trailer and it has
this like kind of I don't knowhow to describe it other than just a
sort of like model animation look toit, you know, like a you
know, Harry or Harry, LikeI think it's Harry, Harry like the
name, yeah, I think so, yeah, okay, Harry. It's
like I don't I'd never heard ofit. It's apparently some kind of adventure
(01:26:20):
game, but it has a ithas a look to it Haliban like the
fish. Yeah, like the fish. You should check this trailer out.
It is on my radar, now, Okay, okay, I think it's
a it's an existing franchise, isit? I think I think it is
a Harry Halliban is a cartoon character. Okay. It sounds like that's the
(01:26:45):
first time hearing about any of this, like like mid two thousands educational game.
Yes, Harry Hallibert teaches you abouthalitos, about sliders, that sliders,
profanity sliders. Harry Halliban teaches youabout white nationals. You're gonna want
to turn this one way up,folks, This one here all the way
up strong, all keep going. You can't hear a word up stade Now,
(01:27:14):
it's just one long and that's theelement way all right, don't be
a long time. It's been along time since a video game trailer struck
me at all, and that onekind of hits. All right, you
guys want to head into to someemails. Yeah, all right, we're
gonna take another short break here, folks, stick around, we'll be right
(01:27:34):
back. Oh well, that didn'tplay the music. Oh we find something
to play some music. Hey,hey, we are back and it's time
(01:28:03):
for emails. I'm gonna see thathot, get hot, come down.
It's like a roller coaster lip deloop. It's time for emails. If
you got an email, you cansend him in to beastcasts at GiantBomb dot
com. That is beastcast at giantbomb dot com. Thanks every ready for
sending in the emails. Appreciate it. Thank you a lot of emails about
(01:28:23):
tea this week and proper brewing oftea as we talk about major Tea Week.
You know what major tea Big teaweek, Big tea Week, Alex,
Why don't you take this one froma Josh here? Okay, Josh
says, do you think there willever be a great Godzilla game? There
(01:28:44):
have been close to sixty games madethat feature Godzilla, but not one of
them has ever been truly considered tobe a great game. Same thing could
have been said about Batman until ArkhamAsylum came out. Could some team make
a genre defining Godzilla game or isthe King of the Monsters doomed to mediocrity?
Type of game would it be?What type of game would it be?
I mean, do you want agood Godzilla game? Is that?
(01:29:05):
Could you make an into the bodyGodzilla game where like you're like you're like
a turn based That's what I guessyou could, but I'm not necessarily certain
that's what people who like Godzilla wouldwant. Okay, can you make a
Pokemon snap ish? You're trying tofilm your Godzilla is fighting monsters, and
(01:29:29):
you're like a video. You're likean amateur news person trying to get the
best shots, and you have touse your at the traverse of the city
while not getting destroyed to get thegreatest shots. Get a shot of Godzilla
breathing fire. Get more pictures ofGodzilla. Get a shot of Mathra's face.
This is terrible. We can't printthis god what's the turtle tortex?
(01:29:54):
What's theme? Yeah, get camerawith his limbs tucked in, like you
know that stuff, and then getme a shot of that. That could
be fun. I'm you, guysare way beyond where I'm at with this.
I'm just like, who are theGodzilla people? I understand, like
Godzilla's like a fun monster that wejust can't let go of in the same
(01:30:15):
way of you know, King KongAnd I don't know. I guess that
trailer that movie looks all right, but like, why why do we need
I don't know, I question moreof why Godzilla? Oh look, Godzilla
is the king of the monsters fora reason. He is beloved in his
name of Japan. And you know, I think that I meet personally.
(01:30:36):
I'm a big fan of the oldman in suit Godzilla movies. I'm okay.
I have never really liked any ofthe American cg ones. I haven't
seen Godzilla versus Cang yet, butI did not like the other two recent
ones. I certainly did not likethat nineties one though. That soundtrack banged.
Is that the Matt Broderic one.Yeah, yeah, the one that
(01:30:58):
had like rage against the Machine andthat fucking stupid p Diddy song with Jim
That's where they find the eggs inMadison Square Garden right there. Yeah,
that is extremely bad. But isit worse than the King Kong one where
they have to like do heart surgeryon King Kong? And you remember that
one they like they have to likePeter Jackson one. No, no,
(01:31:18):
this is pre Peter Jackson. Theylike have King Kong and they have to
like do like I think they haveto like do a heart thing on him
and the app it's a long timeago. I saw when I was a
kid in a large heart, yes, and they just have to. You
know, his heart was too big. It turns out, yeah, his
heart was too big. I think. Look, the spirit of Godzilla,
(01:31:38):
and especially in like the the sixtiesand seventies Japanese movies, is you know,
he is a monster, but heis their monster. He is the
monster that protects people. He isthe monster that fights the other monsters,
and that is that what it is. I didn't know that at some point,
so it's a lot of it.Yeah, I mean he doesn't start
out that way, but that's kindof what it develops into. He kind
of he kind of becomes like lizardultra man. Is that when he starts
(01:32:00):
shooting electricity out of his mouth? There's a lot of OA. Can anyone
give me the quick rundown of likewhat exactly is the blue space laser coming
out of old Godzilla's throat there? It's it's this special power. That's it.
It's not like, okay, howhe procreates, Okay, he'll get
(01:32:23):
hit by that. You don't wantto look. With the Godzilla games,
the only ones I can really thinkI remember are ones that like tried to
capture the idea of big monster battlingin a city, you know, and
like, the reason they're never verygood is because there's really only so far
you can go with that. Imean, don't get me wrong. I
am a gigantic Pacific RIM fan, like Pacific the first I think the first
(01:32:45):
movie is very good, very good. The second one not good. I
never saw it. I never sawit, Okay, I don't think anyone
saw that. Yes, the firstone very good. Here's the game for
you, Alex, here's my Godzillagame for you. It's it's really picks
a Lart, but it's very good. It's very some good picks a Lart.
It is about the kind of waningdays of the guy in the Godzilla
(01:33:06):
suit, and you play as himand like as a studio. It's like
a quop game. No, no, there are scenes where you gotta getting
this when you're in the suit working, but it's really about this guy's home
life and like, you know,he's going to be out of a job
soon. He knows this is thelast Godzilla movie. Like effects are coming
in, like they're they're not usingthe guy in the suit anymore, and
(01:33:27):
you just kind of play like youknow, what's how do you? How
do you get out of this? And he has dreams of being Godzilla,
and you play through that kind oflike it's like the Wrestlers. Yeah,
you're playing through that real life thing. And like when he puts the suit
on, then he's just stomping stuffand you play like, oh my gosh,
this is incredible. I'm really Godzilla. Then he takes it off and
they're like, good job, youknow, go home, and like,
you know, here's your here's yourmoney. And he goes home. And
(01:33:49):
the one thing I think if someonewere to try and make a modern version
of this, they would trying tomake the most photorealistic city that you can,
you know, most fine detailed citythat you can just destroy and stomp
over and set fire to and whathave you as you were fighting Mathra or
Rodan or whoever the fuck else. But that's wrong. That is wrong,
(01:34:10):
and you should not do that. What you should do is harness the power
of modern PCs, the PlayStation five, the series X, what have you
to create the most realistic model physicsyou have ever seen in a video game.
Building should collapse like they are madeof poster board, like the sparks
that shoot out of it. Thereshould be tons of partal effects, but
they should look like someone set offa sparkler underneath the model that you are
(01:34:32):
destroying. So that's what people want. They want the rubber suit mechanics.
They want the slow movement. Theywant cities that break apart like you are
stomping on someone's cardboard box. Soyou want you want the Godzilla that,
yeah, you want? You wantthem to make the game of the bad
effects Godzilla. Yes, I wantthat everything and like you know, like
(01:34:57):
wobbly kids that shoot by, butthere's very clearly a wire on them that
is shooting it across, Like Iwant. I want to see the zipper
on the suit, right, youwant the model train that crashes at a
little puff of smoke comes out ofthat. And then all of those,
all of those battles should be interspersedwith different with like these these deeply rich,
(01:35:19):
you know, visual novel storytelling ofthe people on the ground dealing with
this shit. Like I want thevideo game to cut to the seventies dance
club where people are fucking, youknow, getting high on drugs and fucking
singing about pollution. Uh, youknow, like in between Godzilla destroying stuff.
(01:35:40):
I like it. I'm sold. How much money do you need for
it five dollars, eleven billion dollars. Okay, we'll get Coachima on it
and Phil Spencer together and oh man, yeah, Coachim Godzilla game would either
be maybe the best thing or theworst thing to every It would be eleven
hours too long. And when thoseguys let's start talking Monster never yeah,
(01:36:04):
act too, Zella is talking,You've already fucked up. We got this
other one here. I'm gonna readthis. I'm sure you put my mass
on the screen. I'm gonna readthis one here from Mike. Mike says,
I just scored a free guitar, nice, and I want to learn
how to play it. I'm thirtyeight with three kids. Don't really want
(01:36:26):
to take lessons. Ooh, well, is that rock Smith game a good
substitute to learn the basics? I'vebeen a drummer for talking about this.
I've been a drummer for thirty years, so I understand rhythm. I've just
never understood notes and chords. Really, just looking to get a hobby level
understanding so I can noodle around anyideas on how to get started. Thank
(01:36:48):
you, you missed. You missedsuch an opportunity to do that. In
an accent I missed that would sayI dodged it. Think that's that's Mike
from Boston. Mike, I'll tellyou something, my friend, Uh,
you need lessons to learn a thing. That's no, No, that's not
true. I never took lessons.I learned a couple of things. Not
well, you did something. Imean this basically rock Smith would be lessons.
(01:37:14):
And my general line, and alexisis probably why you said have we've
done this before? My general lineon Rocksmith is and I don't know,
things have changed, it's been awhile. Is a great practice tool,
not a great yeah, Like Idon't know if you feel that way about
rock band as well, Like youknow it can it can get you the
motor, you know, skill andstuff. But if you need to learn
(01:37:38):
some stuff, I think Rocksmith isnot necessarily the best way to do it.
But my advice to Mike is inthe time since I have learned guitar
on my own, the internet.Oh, there's all sorts of people that
want YouTube up on YouTube upon YouTube. I think I want to say Fender
has like an online thing because Ihear abstrat on other podcasts that you could
(01:38:00):
learn like that's Fender school or something. But again that's less lessons. If
the bit is you don't want tofind a guitar teacher and you don't want
to go to a place to takelessons, I understand that, but I
again, you need some kind ofonline resources, Yeah you want to.
I think that the thing that Ithink, the thing that I would say
(01:38:24):
is probably the most important, isjust avoiding some really bad habits. That's
that's probably the thing. If youeven get some fundamentals and the chord a
chord book and just learn like,oh, this is the way I'm going
to mess up my wrist if Ikeep playing this way, or this is
why this hurts so much, Likethose are the things that I wish I
knew to be like, oh,well now this is how I make this
(01:38:44):
chord upside out and inverted, andit's why I can never switch from this
chord to this chord because I mybrain has closed off that from this chord
to discord. That's right. Ohthat's my new that's my that's how we
teach you. I would always putmy pinky behind them for some reason,
one of those things. That's it. I was just like, don't do
that. I mean don't do that. You can learn to play that.
(01:39:05):
I'm not saying that's wrong. Uh, putting a picky behind or I always
wrapped my thumb around and never supportmy fingers on the back of the neck
with my thumb. Well, yougot those big bears. I've got those
gigantic bear claws. I'm speaking ofbuying that watch. Turns out I've got
ridiculously sized risks that I couldnt wearhuman watches. So I never noticed it
(01:39:28):
before. It just it's just gluetierrists the faces, glue tiers. If
you could it just it just doesn'tlook at that. I had to get
a different band that just had onemore flap on the thing. It's just
like I didn't realize it got thosegot those big old risks, and what's
(01:39:48):
my life? And I was like, I didn't nick watches. You I
could generally get the fit on myarm. She's like, no, you
have you have like horse risks. You have you need to everything in this
house is a design specifically for yourrisks. You can realize it didn't realize.
We've scaled everything forever. The onlytime I ever noticed is when you
(01:40:08):
get like wrist bands at things andthey would put it on and they'd be
like huh, just like yeah,we'll just put a little extra tas.
I guess we're just a touch toowell. Just how do you feel about
scotch tape? Anyway that can I'dsay go online and try and find some
stuff. I think if you canlearn the chords, you can have some
(01:40:29):
fun. Got a chord brother andtrying not to learn some bad habits.
Enjoy yourself and free guitar. That'show it starts. That's how it starts.
And then and then all of asudden you're like getting amps and all
sorts of things. How many guitarsyou got in the house? Man?
You have like a bunch on awall? Seven right? Seven six?
I got a buddy who who Igot a buddy who builds guitars that's used
(01:40:54):
to have his own used to havehis own line. And uh I think
like ever Clear was his client fora while. Really, oh you got
that hard Alexakis money coming in,that's what he's saying. I don't know
if that's paying all the bills, but uh yeah, you know I did
the thing where I was like,oh man, we don't be awesome when
(01:41:14):
the kids are born I'm gonna buythem a guitar, and then they're gonna
be able. I think I talkedabout this. They're gonna look back and
forty years from now and they're gonnabe like, oh, man, I
got a two thousand and twelve lessPaul. That's sweet. Like if I
had like a nineteen seventy eight LessPaul, I'd be psyched, right,
And then, regardless of if thekids ever want to play guitar, I
bought him for me. I boughthim. I was like, man,
(01:41:36):
I really would love a less Paul, like a genuine less Paul, and
I could never justify buying myself one. So let's get a less Paul on
a telecaster and put them on thewall and then tell them and I'll we'll
say it's for the kids. MI still couldn't get there. I got
the less Palm. I think itwas a I still couldn't afford the studio
(01:41:56):
or the like proper less Paul. That's just still too expensive for me.
Guitars can be very expensive, yeah, oh, groundbreaker information can be very
expensive. Every year I look everyyear, I look at it cost money.
I should cost money. I lookat a Martin or a tailor and
I'm like, I can't do that. I can't. I can't. That's
(01:42:19):
a three thousand dollars plus three thousand. That's a lot. But you know
what, Yeah, that's why Ithink you should buy it. I think
you should buy some can make youhappy. Maybe it would make me happy.
Maybe, I mean yeah, maybe, I don't know. I don't
know. That's a lot of money. That's a lot of money. Think
he doesn't make money playing guitar. That's a lot of money on a hobby.
(01:42:41):
I'm gonna ask my buddy to makeUh, I'm gonna pay him to
make me one. I think,Yeah, you want to you want to
do that? You get like atwo for one deal. Yeah, that's
pretty cheap. That's a that's probablyan expensive so, man, I I
gotta show you photos next time I'min that. I have a buddy who
made custom apps. We got themtogether. We're really going. We're doing
it. You got it. Ineed a pedal, guy, and we're
(01:43:03):
all done. That's right, that'sright. No, the amp and the
guitar sounds so good out of them, they don't even need a pedal.
Yea, as long as it's gotfucking SKA mode, signed me. Just
turned the guitar upside down. It'smode. Let's get to the next just
goes checkerboard, checkerboard. Yeah, all right, back Lar. Why don't
(01:43:24):
you take this one from Adam?Sure? Adam says, do you refrigerate
ketchup? Yes? Move on.I know people who keep it in the
refrigerator and others who keep it inthe pantry. Catch up at restaurants is
stored at room temperature for who knowshow long, despite the bottle stating to
refrigerate after opening. Also, coldketchup is way worse. Who wants cold
(01:43:47):
ketchup on hot food? So?What are your thoughts on this contentious issue?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Here's the deal. It's the
deal. You're right, cold ketchupsucks. It is a nuisance. No,
who wants ste like like like straightout of the fryer? Uh dog
you know? Uh whatever? No, not that fries and then like cold
(01:44:13):
ketchup on the hot fries. Getat it here, man. I mean,
look, I don't care if it'sroom temperature or cold. I keep
the kid of the ketchup in thefridge if if you know, we want
it warm. We'll just leave itout for a little bit and let it
get to room temperature. That's fine, it's not a big deal. But
you keep the ketchup in the goddamnOnce you open the ketchup, it goes
in the fridge unopened, ketchup open. I do it. I do it
(01:44:34):
too. Okay, there we go. But but his but Mike's point on
Adam's point is that restaurants they keepthose, you know, squeezy bottles wherever,
you know, for for bottle andprobably like a day. That's what
I think. I think. Sowhat you're saying, by the time you've
gotten that ketchup, it's just cool. It's just warm. I think room
(01:44:58):
temperature. They opened up the restaurant, they put all the shit out there,
and then by the time people actuallystart coming in there, it's warmed
up. It's been all right, explained ketchup packets to me. I guess
it's just like a new bottle. Is that the ketchup packet? Yeah?
I think it's unopen, like it'ssealed. That's the whole thing. I
haven't worked in a restaurant in along time, or in a place of
food in a long time, ButI want to say, we used to
(01:45:18):
just refill the bottles that we're therefrom ketchup in the fridge, and sure
you know you're not just popping anything, all right, Yes, but we
can all agree, like room temperatureketchup is a better ketchup than cold catch.
I think. I don't care personally, but you can get mustard in
the fridge. Yes, yeah,I'm not I'm not happy about that either.
(01:45:43):
Like if I have I love yellowmustard on a hot dog, and
if that mustard's cold, I'm justlike, well this hot dog could have
been better. Do you I letthings warm up? I let things gets
it out for a little. Keepyour maple syrup for or if you have
maple syrup for pancake or something,do you keep your syrup out of the
fridge? Always out of the fridge, even though even though it says to
(01:46:04):
keep it in, I keep itout. I'm like, this is just
fucking sugar, Like, what's gonnahappen to it out in? All things
go in the fridge, All things. The thing peanut butter needs to be
refriger okay, bread slice bread,Okay, I put that in the fridge
(01:46:25):
to make it last longer. Yeah, I only do that if, like,
if it's been a couple of ifs, if like the bread has been
opened for a few days and wejust wanted we know we needed to keep
but like we also try to getthrough a loaf of bread in a week
so that we don't have to dothat. I feel I love bread.
I love bread so much. Iknow statement yeah, no, no,
but like the fresh baked Italian bakerystuff is just like unfreaking believable. But
(01:46:47):
you get like a good sesame rolefrom like an Italian place, fresh out
of the oven. It's only gonnalast maybe two to three days before it
starts getting a little funky. SoI you know, I'll check on it
once an hour for a day andjust be like you're okay, You're okay,
all right, And then the secondI think I've pushed my luck in
the fridge, that thing goes. But you know, all right, well
(01:47:10):
that doesn't for this week's segment, our fridge or not, I'm hungry,
O Baclar, we got this one. Why don't you take another one?
Here? It's just some recommendations.I could just read them off to you.
Yeah, we got recommendations here. This one comes from Brent for Games.
We covered some of this before. In a previous segment you mentioned this
is Brent, you mentioned missing atrue sense of exploration adventure. This is
(01:47:30):
different than your multiplayer stuff. Iabsolutely love games that nail that. In
twenty twenty one, when so muchwas over explained to Touralizer on the Rails,
here are a few titles that areamazing at a true natural and have
a true natural sense of exploration.Games that teach you via world design or
let you figure it out. Brenthas a little list here, says Outer
Wilds Out of Wild Outer Wilds firstplayed Breaking Disco, Elysium, Subnautica Start,
(01:47:57):
I'm gonna start that. So Iplayed sub Fire One played it,
hyper Light Drifter played it. Gotit? Okay? Thanks, Thanks Brent,
Okay. Alexan Varry, you wantto take this one from Blake,
Sure, Blake says Heyby's Crew. When you save a game, would you
prefer it to show you the timeplayed in hours and minutes or the date
(01:48:18):
and time that the save occurred.Let's assume that you can only have one
of the two. Because I wasgiving My follow up is why not both?
Why not both? Why not both? It's such a strange choice.
I love this question though. It'sI feel like it's something that goes over
looked a lot. Time played inhours and minutes time played. Ye to
me, that's more valuable. Itis. Okay, no, but okay,
(01:48:40):
I can do the math necessary tofigure out which is my most recent
save based on that. I can't. There's other things you can, you
know, look up, Yeah, okay, I can see that. So
you just look for the latest, the most time played, and you're good.
Yes, presubably, that is mymost recent save. I'll buy that.
I was a little on the fenceon this, but I think you've
pushed me over into time played versusdate of save. Glad I could take
(01:49:00):
you along this journey with me.Yeah, that was good. Okay,
I'm there, Okay, Jeff, want you to shake this one from Cay
Kyle Kyle. Hello. Lucy broughtup a point that helped contextualize my feelings
in last week's pastcast. I havea decent PC, with game Pass being
my only way to currently access thosegames. I don't have an Xbox,
(01:49:24):
but I find myself preferring to playmy games on my PS five or switch
due to the fact that I sitat my PC all day for work and
would rather avoid it in my freetime. Bought Cyber Shadow on Switch,
could have had it on PC gamePass for free, among other games.
You're finding yourselves in this position now. I would rather play games on PC
(01:49:44):
when I can, just because Ihave a you know, I have a
very capable, good PC, andI want to play it there first.
But I guess this goes into theconversation we were having at the top of
the show where there is this inconsistencyacross PC game Pass an Xbox game Pass.
I understand, like, look forme, if if I'm getting the
(01:50:08):
game free on game Pass, that'swhy I'm gonna play it. I guess
I understand not want to sit atyour PC all day. But I mean,
look like when when Mundane we hadthat we have that on our epic
account, you know, as partof like you know, media stuff,
and I was like, you know, I kind of want to play this
on my too, because the thingis I have these consoles, I have
(01:50:30):
a really nice TV, and I'malso sitting in here eight hours a day.
I mean, the exact same positionKyle is, where like, yes,
I have a very good PC,and it will play all these games
great. But what if I wentin the other room that is not this
one and played on my TV?What if I did that instead and I
ended up moving back to PC onMundan because that build was not the best
at launch. It was a littlechuggy in a way that the PC version
(01:50:53):
was not. But I have foundmyself repeatedly leaning toward consoles specifically just because
one, I want to make useof the hardware, and too, I
want to get the fuck out ofthis room if I don't have to be
here. I'm with you. I'vestarted feeling that way as well. I'd
add one third one there, whichis the TV I have upstairs with my
consoles, is a nicer TV thatsupports HDR. So there are some games
(01:51:15):
that it's like, oh, ifI play this on the console, i'll
get it in four K. Youknow, it's four K HDR on that
TV that it supports four K.My monitors here don't do four K,
and so it might be a nicerlooking experience. That being said, I
also have the Steam link looked upthere, so I will also play some
PC stuff through the Steam link ifit works. I still think that Steam
(01:51:38):
controller is great. I play alot of stuff up there, and it's
fine playing ten eighty stuff on theSteam link for me most of the time.
But there are some things. Thereare some things I'll come downstairs and
back in the old sewer basement togo play. But I'm ye, I
got tired of being down here.I'm down here ten hours a day doing
this stuff. It's even I've gotmy other hobbies down here, and it's
(01:51:58):
even affected some of that. Like, hey, I just don't want to
go down When are they going tofix that? When When is the PC
HDR shit gonna become like actually viableon a widespread scale, because this bummed
me out. I mean, Idon't know. I think there are things
that support it, but there aren'tvery many. I think more and more
games are like the hardware side ofthings, like there aren't a lot of
(01:52:21):
good monitors that support it. SoI was able to get a new monitor
through work, and this one doeshave HDR, and it's not as noticeable
when you compare it to the HDRexperience on you know, like an old
lead like we have. But Ithink it's getting better. It's just it's
(01:52:43):
just not really a priority, reallyI don't know why. It's just not
a priority. Uh, I don'tknow. People just are using TVs for
PC monitors, like you could alsojust do that. Yeah, yeah,
you totally could, because there's sinkor that that was like last es right,
like g sink and free States coming. Some of those TVs do one
hundred twenty hurts now right, Yeah, yes, the one behind me is
g sinc and one. So it'sit's fine again. You wanted sitting down
(01:53:10):
in a smaller form factor, youdo. You have plenty of options now,
I think, you know, Ido think there is I feel like
there's a convergence happening stuff out there. People are using just TV monitors for
their PC and also people are thereare form factors of PCs that are you
know, more compatible with living roomsetups that people are just doing PCs in
there. Yeah, all right,I'm gonna read this last one here from
(01:53:31):
Andy. Now you remember Andy,Andy, Alex You may not remember Andy.
Andy was with his wife of fourteenyears, I believe that a fair
or street fair and caught her havinga conversation in Spanish and he said,
I did not know you speak fluentSpanish, And she was like huh,
(01:53:53):
must have just never came up.Uh, you said fourteen years. Fourteen
years. That seems like something thatwould come up eventually. Okay, guess
it just never came up. Sowe have a slight uh. We have
a follow up here from Andy.Andy says, oh my god, I
didn't read this at a time,so I'm very excited. Andy says,
(01:54:15):
So an update for everyone on myquote Spanish speaking I should mention also his
wife is this isn't gonna end withhim getting divorced, right, that's I
don't want that. The wrinkle inthe story was his wife spoke fluent Italian,
so we got a lot of emailsthat are like, oh, you
know Italian romance language is Italian andSpanish. It could have been. And
I love which as somebody who hasbeen around a lot of Italian speaking people,
(01:54:38):
like they're similar. I just Igrew up in New York. Yeah,
and it's like they're similar, butthere's a difference. So an update
for everyone on my Spanish speaking life. She is a genius prankster. Backstory
a few weeks A few weeks ago, I did an impromptu magic trick on
my wife, A silly slight ofhand gag that she could not figure out.
(01:55:00):
She asked how I did it,and I told her I still have
some secrets. After fourteen years, she wanted to get me back and concocted
her plan. She got in touchwith an old friend of hers and had
her teacher some Spanish cut to usgoing to the market, where she met
up with her friend and started speakingSpanish with her. You know the rest.
She didn't know I would write anemail about it, and it's sorry,
(01:55:23):
but she found it hilarious that Ifail for it. So hilarious,
Oh so hilarious. Prankster or evilgenius avienus, Andy, it is confirmed
your wife is actually an international spy. I'm not gonna believe your cover story.
She's she's really mad. I'm sorryyou blew her cover. This is
(01:55:44):
a this is a prank that wedid a prank thing, the prank thing,
and you wrote an email to thethat's chapter three, Vinny. We'll
get there when we get there. But oh my god, Andy, your
wife's amazing because not only did sheget you so damn good, so good,
but now it's like multiplied by afactor of a thousand because it spread
to this platform and we're all talkingabout it. You got got Andy,
(01:56:06):
but in the best possible way, because if my significant other went to those
lengths to get me on a gag, that's why it works you too,
And that's why it works you too. Keep it going, that's why it
works. That's awesome. Oh mygod, how funny is that you wrote
it? You wrote an email aboutthis? Oh snap, I really got
(01:56:29):
you good, didn't It was justlike it was a Joe Fetti came outranks
like. These are the kinds ofpranks I fully support because they are not
harmful, they are not damaging.Yes, it is literally just it is
a silly little trick that just kindof makes you feel like, all right,
I got got okay whatever. Ialso love the levels of difference here
of like, because I can seeme being Andy being like, look like
(01:56:50):
it disappeared, be like, yeah, how'd you do it? It's goofy.
I'm not gonna tell you it's goofy. And then the level of complexity
of the setup for this other thing, which is just like, no,
you've your whole life's a lie.Your name isn't even Andy, I'm not
your wife. It's been it's beena fourteen year set up, like wait
what Yeah, It's like she like, I'm not married to you. Those
(01:57:17):
kids are actors. Goodbye, nevernever fuck with me again. Remember pushes
it over. It's just a cardboardcutoff, like everything's just like she's like,
it's it got me. And thenshe walked away and she does,
hey, your life, he's gone. It's the same trick. It's gone,
(01:57:40):
dude. The funniest thing, too, is like he goes into the
backstor He's like, well, Idid do this seemingly harmless sleight of hand
trick, and I guess I guessyou got me. I guess all right,
(01:58:00):
gonna we're gonna end that. Agreat story, what a great story,
Andy, Thank you, thank you, thank you. We're gonna end
it there, Alex. You missedsome stuff about the Snyder cop but it
was great. Wait but also butalso your move Andy, Yeah, your
move. No, Andy's like Andycrumples into a pilot that I'm done.
(01:58:25):

music. Alex, thanks so much. Glad you're feeling better. Thank you,
glad to be back. Good luckon your vaccination. Sir, no,

on Sena. You wished to mention, Nope, speak now forever, hold
your your content. Yeah, that'sI think that's pretty much it. Okay,
