(00:11):
Well everybody, and welcome back tothe Giant Peas Cast. Hello. Hello,
it is Thursday, April. I'mreading my notes. Thursday April twenty
second, Friday April twenty third. That's all I call her. Uh twenty
(00:31):
twenty one, Episode three hundred nine. Wow? Wow, I think it's
ten? Is it? I don'tknow. I think it's fine, but
there's nowhere to know. There's nowhereyto know it's nine. Hey, listen,
doesn't matter. I'm not here forepisode numbers. We're pretty excited for
three eleven. That's what you want. Jimmy, Nemma demin, m Na
(00:54):
nene Amber. Is the color ofyour energy? Is it? I was
always thought it was all imatually gettingmore of a shark truse. Okay,
good? What's your favorite three elevensong? Nah? Down, that's the
song down, Alex? Because Iknow, I know you owned all those
(01:14):
records. So I actually owned likethree three eleven records, mostly because I
really liked their drummer. Okay, was that was? What was Chad?
Something's that his name? Yeah?Chad Chad good snare drum? What's your
what's your favorite? What's your favoritethree eleven record? Uh? I look
(01:34):
the one that down is on.I think it's probably Blue album. Acceptable
album like at three eleven is nota band I will defend on any level.
But they are very good musicians technically, and when I was a stoned
fourteen year old, I enjoyed theirmusic. I yes, I think I
had a I had a three elevenphase when I was about twelve, I
(01:55):
think, but uh, it seemslike they appear to be like good guys.
Oh yeah, they're not scumbags,which is I I understand there's like
a seventy five percent chance in themusic industry that they are probably actually scumbags,
but in their case, they seemto have mostly avoided that. What's
the what's the wrestling ratio? Youdon't want? Used to be? Okay?
(02:16):
Good? Good? That means it'sbetter, it's better. It's still
not good, but it's betterer okay, all right, okay. I like
their album music, that album becausethat was the album that first second.
I think it's their first. Uhit could be the second. I don't
know, but I just remember whenyou when you when you were into that
Blue album, you were like, what's the real? Like, let me
(02:38):
become a real three eleven connoisseur andthe thing that people were always like,
Yo, you gotta listen to themusic album. It's way less produced.
It's the only one that has musicon it. And uh, that's that's
the one I remember really really layinginto. Really I celebrate the entire catalog
(03:00):
of one Nick Hexum and Peanut.Yes, and I go on their cruise
every year as we do that. They do it three eleven cruise. They
do a three eleven cruise as thething they do like a three eleven festival
when festivals were a thing. Okay. I don't know if it was them
for four days or if they invitedother bands. I just know they did
that and then they turned they kindof like I feel like they kind of
(03:23):
pivoted, or maybe it's just theirnatural evolution. They kind of became this
like mushroom band where they were justinto like psychedelics more right, Like they
were just like a jam no,no, they were always high. But
there's a difference between being like apodhead rat metal band and then like a
jammy fish kind of thing and rapmetal. I would say, whatever you
(03:46):
want to call it. Yeah,I mean, you know, I could
spend plenty of time talking about threeeleven. We could do you have you
have you have done? That couldfeel like da quota maybe, but yeah,
ding ding ding ding Yeah. Donefor the year. Move on,
uh three eleven March eleventh, Fastforwards, fast forward to April twenty second,
(04:11):
and here we are doing things. How you guys doing Alex Navarro's here,
Jeff Backlar's here. I'm doing good. I uh you know, I
like I had a very like intenseencounter with nature this morning. Oh all
three hundred and eleven. Nature iswhat happened? What I that's terrible.
(04:34):
I woke up. Uh, Iwas already up. I went down stairs
and dropped a kid off of school. And Stacy's just like, you gotta
look outside in the backyard right now, okay, And I'm expecting some sort
of like Tasmanian devil or some shit. And I see, oh, yeah,
you got it. No, AndI see this creature, this gigantic
(04:59):
bird light creature with fucking talents anda nasty, nastiest beak like one of
those balls right sack beaks. WhatI saw the photo. It's not a
bird like creature. It's a bird, yes, But what I'm telling this
story, I gotta I gotta tellthe story. It's the way they tell
stories. Okay, this is areyou afraid of the Dark the Midnight Society?
(05:23):
All right, tell me about yourbird like monster stand on the fire,
Alex, this is magic going on. What's that? What's that one
that you guys? And that uglybird as you mentioned that time, that
really, oh my god, thattedious, like uh fucking awful, like
I don't know, Oh my god, that bird looked like it had been
through shit. It got the shortend of the evolutionary straw. And that
(05:46):
thing is just it's just this likestraw, the short end of the straw.
Yeah, like like they were justlike, hm, we should also
make this look like it's balding andfucking yeah having a real bed couple of
years. Yeah, I guess herewe go. All right, so tell
me about your bird monster. Sothis bird monster is just like in the
(06:08):
middle of the backyard, and I'mjust like, look at the fucking size
of this thing, larger than mydog. And my dog's like a thirty
eight pound dog. He's not likehe's not he's not huge, but he's
not tiny. And I'm just Iget the camera. I'm just like taking
pictures of this thing. I'm likezooming in on. I'm like, oh,
this is so gross. What isit doing? It flies up to
(06:30):
my to the swing set, andhe's just sort of like standing there like
real pre like all this is myship now, and I'm just like,
what is this thing? I tookhim on and then you know, we
just kind of watched it and it'sjust oh you could see it. You
can see it breathing. It's like, dude, I'm just like, this
wicked, nasty creature. What isit? I posted photos on Twitter.
(06:51):
Apparently it is a turkey vulture.Oh, that's all it is. The
timeout, Alex, could you saythat like you're like, you've hung out
with a couple of them, andthey're not such I have my parents,
my mom's house in back in California, surrounded by eucalyptus trees, and in
those eucalyptus trees lives an entire fuckingflock of those things and has for the
(07:13):
last twenty years. There are justthere's a ship ton of Yeah, And
the thing is you're the thing you'reright about is that they are disgusting assholes,
Like they don't enjoy them. Uh, They had this habit of if
you drove down the driveway, uh, and you were like blasting music two
out or making too much noise, they would just vomit on your cars.
(07:38):
I read up a look when theyget scared, they vomit like some sort
of dumb at Like what is that? I've been there anyway, so so
you know, I'm reading up andpeople on Twitter like, yo, check
your backyard. There's definitely something deadin your backyard. What'd you find?
Okay, they they did something. There must have been. I don't think
one. Nobody's gonna get this, but you got I know who runs the
(08:01):
five twenty two local. Not anymore, you don't. This was a hit.
There was a hit, and ithappened in my backyard. It turns
out to five two nights looking fora new Uh yeah, listen to me.
Okay, when I say a fuckinghorror scene, like I don't even
(08:22):
want to describe it because it isso fucking gnarly what I tiptoed after he
left. Oh, the murder scenethat they must have done here, It
is so red. They don't murdermurder, they only eat. You're right,
you're right, so they probably didn'tdo the murder. They just found
the dead things. Do you haveanother problem on your hands? But please
(08:45):
get to the different predator. Yeah, someone else is out there killing.
I don't even know what this was, how really figured it was. I
mean, it is unrecognizable, likelooks like a bird, but it also
could have been like a gopher.I don't know what it is. You
would you do with it? I'mjust hoping. I'm almost inviting them back,
(09:05):
like please finish what you started here. But I'm gonna say, I'm
gonna say've been to your house. You have a very lovely house, while
you just got very bright. Godapproves of this your nature plan. He's
one. He's made the right choice. But you're but you don't have the
backyard. That's like for folks onbacklard doesn't have the backyard. That's like
(09:26):
it's just woods, you know,as far as I mean there is,
there are woods backyard like defense andeverything. It's it's like not that huge,
but it's like you don't have like, oh, it's just yeah,
something crawled out of the woods. No, No, it wasn't like that.
So I don't know how this thinggot there. But yeah, that's
nature. Happens wherever you are,Like you can't get away from it.
(09:46):
Like I was walking down the streetlast week and I watched a hawk just
straight up dive down on a pigeonand just start beating the ever loving shit
out of it. Yeah, hewas nightmarish. The COVID has let nature
come out in a way that's justlike, Hey, maybe these guys have
never pissed. Maybe maybe we canreclaim some of this here. Maybe.
Uh, I'm gonna go out.Yeah, let's get it back, let's
(10:07):
get let's get it back. Ohshit, I forgot about turkey vulture or
I I forgot there's other things outhere. I mean there's a war coming
with the turkey vultures. I founda let's get gross. I found a
dead mouse in my garage and thatmight have been there for a bit because
I haven't been in a garage ina bit and kind of stuck to the
floor. Just uh oh okay,I feel like my story might have been
(10:31):
more fun, but just kind ofhow do you get that off? How
do you get that off? Theconcrete? There? This is actual,
especially you don't ever want to useagain. Yeah, that's uh, this
is just it starts off with thelike you know, that whole thing,
like I'm pretty squeamish, so thatwhole thing of like, oh, I
don't even want to do this. They just put me in as many plastic
bag suits as possible and I'm justgoing in there too. Oh god,
(10:56):
it's just it's fallen apart, justlike what are you doing? Just can
we just could we just sell thegarage. It's just it's we moved.
It's what are you doing in there? Ben? Oh god, oh jeez,
this is uh, don't come in. Nature is built with a reclamation
project built in like all things aremeant to return to the earth. And
(11:18):
unfortunately, in this case, ithappened to do try to do that on
concrete, and that is not whereit wants to do that. The processes
began, but the place where theprocesses were supposed to go was not there.
And unfortunately now it's your problem todeal with. I dealt with it,
and uh yeah, that's uh.You just threw it back in the
woods where its neighbor's problem, right, You just sort of like fling it
(11:41):
into the like slingshot, like sorry, having a nice small backyard poop just
by the tail just sort of youknow what, what do you who do
you think wins in a bird fight? Is it the turkey vulture or like
the New York City pigeon turkey vultureson side. I think I'm pretty sure
(12:07):
the reason to call them turkey vulturesbecause they have something to do with turkeys.
And that's a that's a pretty bigred neck and the kind of jolly
thing. Oh it's so gnarly he'sand like, you take a vulture,
right, which is like considered likea real aggressive predator, and then a
turkey likes it, but it's scarier. It's scarier, Yeah, and then
(12:31):
a turkey, which is just likethe dumb asses of the bird like community,
right, Like they're pretty stupid.Yeah, Like was meshed that together.
And we have wild turkeys and youprobably have wild turkeys running like Jersey's
a weird fucking state. Man turkeysdeer California. Two. My parents also
have a family about thirty wild turkeysthat hang out in it didn't well,
(12:52):
sometimes show up in their driveway.I'm ten minutes from the George Washington Bridge,
So like, yeah, that feelsI mean, that's human's fault.
We did this. We we putthe ridge and everything there is. So
are you trying to say like theyshould really see Oh no, no,
no, I'm just saying it's weird. It's weird, like if you saw
turkeys walking around in New York City, you'd be like, oh, okay,
(13:13):
this is not how I would saysomehow this is Robert Moses's fault.
Yeah, no, it's it's actuallyit's actually very sad and horrible because we
have forced all these animals into horriblesituations. So the deer really get it
the worst. I mean, Lesbie, the deer in New Jersey are just
(13:33):
they they are. They are nothaving a good time. The last it
would be a lot easier. Maybe. Oh wait, but while we're on
the subject, because I don't wantto come back around to this a little
later. You know what, youknow we're approaching right now here in the
northeast, on the eastern seat,on the Eastern coast, not the northeast,
the eastern coast. Yes, butwhat is happening in the couple first
weeks of May do you guys? Are you guys aware of the of the
(13:56):
brood? The brood x Chicago cicadasthe cicadas. Okay, let me just
give you a little bit of abackstory here, Okay. In two thousand
and four, graduated from a schooloutside of Baltimore. Okay, okay,
round that was basically seventeen years ago. Two thousand and four, I got
firsthand experience with the with the lastgeneration of brewd X. And when I
(14:18):
say this was a biblical nightmare,I cannot like, this is where all
those stories come from. It isit is a cicada brood. It is
like when people when you read liketall tales about like you know, this
is what it is. Okay, when I say billions of these gig they
(14:39):
are large, they are they arethey are about like two inches big or
beaty red eyes. They're all blindand they come out and then you cannot
walk down the street without how peoplecarry tennis rackets with them because that is
how instant. So were you ridingyour were you're a kid, were you
also have to be like riding yourback to friends houses and stuff the last
(15:00):
time they came out before that, because you just get beamed in the face.
You would just eat them. Youwould just be like they hurt the
six ninety five and four ninety fivearound there where I was like people would
run into like swarms of them andit would just be like up like yeah,
and I moved out of my apartmentin college during that time, and
(15:22):
it was like all of them stuckto our furniture. And then we pulled
the car back into New Jersey outof the U hole like thousand from dropped
out of the bottom. I'm notjoking. It was the most insane thing.
Yeah, because it's got up there, this is the end. Hit
the button and then they're like theyfucking they they didn't leave, they gave
(15:43):
him. What else do I needto do here? I put the pie,
put the past and the locus downthere. They didn't leave this time.
They just get in their fucking carand dry for wipe them off.
This isn't working. This isn't working. But like, apparently they're not as
bad up here. I feel we'llstill see some. But it was the
most insane thing I've ever seen froma biological phenomenon sort of point. Yeah,
(16:10):
I am not doubting your story.I believe you true, it's the
truth. Yeah. I also thinkthat I feel like I read one of
these cicada stories once every six months, and I understand there are different broods.
There are different groups. They comeout at different times, but every
time it happens, I'm just like, they're scamming us. This is not
a real thing, Like, areyou live in Queens? Scamming us?
(16:30):
They're telling us it's a big dealevery single fucking time, but it's not.
It's just the cicadas come out, they're loud whatever. I think the
cicadas are trying to fuck with us. I think that's what it is.
It's got a really good pr they'vegot a really good person, so we're
not prepared when this happens, andthen they all come out at once,
and then we're just like, fuck, it's actually happening. Everybody knows the
(16:51):
stories of cicada Charlie who goes outfor all the good kids at night and
puts all the empty cicada shells outof the trees, and with that ship
that's it's crunchy, and it's they'reblind. Why are they blind? So
I heard that there's Nightmare. There'sa long Island brew that's apparently is on
(17:11):
the verge of extinction. The numbersare brewed Caravella. That's right. Don't
say that that's terrible though. Thecaramel, the caravella. Brud's doing fine,
We're We're all good. No.I heard that, and I was
like a little sad, Like asmuch as I really disliked this, like
them, it's like, oh,how will I not not sleep during the
(17:33):
summer? They are they're loud, and they're not Has it been twenty years?
Is that what it is? Okay, so two thousand and four?
Is it weirder? Though? Isit weirder that they're just like underground is
amazing? It is the locust,it is the like years of War is
based on a true story. Itis if they spent one more year underground,
(17:53):
they would come out with chainsaw guns. That is that is a scientific
fact. And we need to gethim involved and he needs to take out
these fucking cicadas. That's right. That's right. Oh god, damn it,
they're Lambert. That's not no,it was really not nice to you.
Thank you? All right, Let'suh, I played week that's right,
(18:18):
let's restart the show. I've playedHitchhiker. I think it's called Hitchhiker,
a mystery game. It's a gameis available on multiple platforms, I
think most of them. If yougo go check it out, so I
think it's available on Switch PS,the PlayStation console family, the Xbox console
family. I don't know if it'sa direct which I wanna call it,
(18:41):
Xbox Series X and PS five versions. Anyway, get beside the point.
I played it on the Epic GameStore and twenty bucks. It's a it's
a game. It's a narrative adventuregame. Uh. You know, it's
pretty light on the interaction. Youdon't have you have control. It's three
D. You're in a car,as you might expect from the title,
(19:03):
kind of hit your and ride. And I don't want to talk too much
about the story because I think it'sfun to explore on its own. But
you are in a car and youhave control over your characters looking, and
you can kind of click on somestuff, and you're kind of going through
this kind of slower paced narrative thatI think lives and dies by that tale
and who's telling it, and it'syou know, voiced, and I think
(19:26):
the voice work is generally pretty good, and I think the story they do
a good job at the storytelling. So I'm only a couple of hours into
it, but what I've seen sofar, i've actually really enjoyed. It's
Hitchhiker, a mystery game, andlet me tell you there's a mystery in
there. Yeah, it might sayit's a little twisted. It's a little
off from what you might expect.Yeah, it's Alex sat with me on
(19:48):
a quick look and would you wouldyou think it's a good thing? Looks
cool. Yeah, it's got anice look to it. And you know,
I'm all about stories where it's you'reyou're doing a mundane thing, but
they find a way to fuck itup and make it weird. And that
seems like what they've done. Itis a series of hitchhiking events where shit
is weird. Yeah, and uh, you go, I'll just say this
so you know, there are chapterswhere you drive with different people or other
(20:11):
people are driving. So right, just so you go look at it the
Quicklick driving game. You are thepassenger. You are the man. Dan
didn't, Dan didn't, Dan didn't. Okay, that's the past. My
mind went to the Deftown song. But I okay, I understand why you
went there, all right. Ilike it a lot. I got twenty
(20:33):
dollars. I bought it on theEpic Game story. I didn't buy it.
Actually I think that I got acomped, but I have enjoyed it.
Quicklick going up soon, possibly thisweekend. Uh I also started out
Riders, not a lot of it, but it was I was. It
was sitting there and I was like, I should try this thing. I've
heard like kind of all over theplace stuff on Outriders, and uh I,
(21:00):
that's set up for that story.I like, really enjoyed. I
don't know that that far into it. I don't have you guys tried any
of it. No, I haven'ttried out right, No, I've been
meaning to. I like, Ilike, I like what they're doing in
this this story. They're they're thewhole thing, the whole planet thing,
and how they're telling it, andthey're dumb, they're silly world. I've
heard a a lot of like andI think that there's a obvious reason for
(21:23):
this. But I think I've hearda lot of like bulletstorm comparisons when it
comes to the story. But itis not its like maybe aggressively trying to
be comedy. Yeah, oh there. I have not gotten to the like
balls because tear your balls off exactly, but it is a little bit like
in your face kind of oh yeah, these are this is the macho camacho
(21:45):
world if like you know, uhhe he was actually elected? Was he
president? In the president? Yeah. It is that sort of thing of
like Mike Hagars, you know,oh, here we go. No no,
no, Mike Hagars, I thinkwould be much more reasonable society person.
Okay it It is that that tonethough, of like oh, okay,
(22:06):
we went down this direction of soI'll just set this up very quickly.
The premise is like Earth has beendestroyed. I don't know if they
get into exactly why, but youcan kind of get the sense from the
characters of maybe they really fucked itup. They did something that's like,
yeah, you don't I wouldn't trustyou guys watching fishy X No, I
(22:27):
don't know. No, you're justbeing a little bit. It's the not
too distant future. Yeah, andso so they on Earth no no,
no, they've gone to uh They'vesent out like the colony ships and like
this is their chance to to starta new right surviving people some catastrophe.
(22:48):
I'm not that far along in it. So this game was on the list
of my like maybe I could dothis with my buddies instead and I'm really
gonna wait to hear what you say, so I'm I was also trying it
out to see, like, hey, is this the thing that like my
brothers and I maybe try because itis cross this cross play. So currently
(23:10):
I believe consoles are having no troubleplaying with each other and on the PC
no matter which store you bought itin or not having trouble. But PC
two console cross plays a little yea, a little little tough, and they've
suspended some of that. But itis also not cross save between platforms.
It is cross save within the familyyou bought it in, So if you
(23:30):
bought it on PS four, youbring your character to PS five if you
go there. But if you buyit on Xbox, I believe you cannot
bring your progress over to PlayStation. So it is on game pass. So
that's why I was checking it out. But my family plays on PlayStation,
so make them buy it, that'swhat you do? I mean, come
on, but then, but thenwhat am I doing? Am I putting
(23:53):
on the am I putting on thePlayStation headset? In one? What do
you do with the chat situation? No, you go to like a disco
or something like that. Discord DiscordDiscord. Yeah, it's okay, Discord
party. Yeah, I don't thinkthat's not the vibe we do. Really,
you know, that's like a that'snot the vibe. That means you
have to have like a PC oryour phone or something there like that's like,
(24:15):
yeah, I'm oh, the horroryour phone? What's the problem?
We plug a headset into your phoneand then have the headset for the game.
Going Hey man, I'm not theone. I'm not the one saying,
oh, Discord is for gamer,Like, I didn't construct that narrative
there, they've been running on thatnarrative. How do they do it?
How do people do it for gamers? Because they won't get bought by Microsoft
(24:37):
or can or can they put iton like the consoles and be like,
hey, if Discord was on theplatform, that would be amazing. Yeah,
that'd be nice. That's that's offsome issues I have for sure.
I almost assumed that was going tohappen, just because of the obviousness of
the whole thing. Yeah, likethere's still time, that's a thing that
could be done. But also ifthey were in the process of like possible
(25:00):
will take over Toss, you wouldmaybe not launch a PlayStation app while that
was going on. Well, Idon't know. Microsoft seems to like really
be in that bag right of like, hey, now here's powered by Discord.
Here's your cross from app. LikeMicrosoft doesn't care. I was gonna
say, if Microsoft bought Discord, they would probably I feel like a way
to get Discord on PS on PlayStationwould still be there. Sure I put
(25:21):
it on the switch, Like sureyou even wanted on that? That thing
too. Well, it's like, here's what happens with the kids, and
like the animal crossing playing together,it's like, oh, okay, now
put the iPad or the phone overhere, and like then play like what
are we doing here? What kywhat guys? There's a better way.
There's a better way. I've neverbeen more scattered when it comes to just
(25:44):
communication platforms. It's never been worse. Yeah. I have eleven apps that
seem to be constantly juggled and theirplates spun simultaneously while I go into my
notification settings to make different chimes foreach thing. And it's just like,
oh, this is a great wayto live. My brother, who has
(26:07):
four four kids that are some teenageand some getting close, has just told
me it is just constant, constantcommunicator. He's like, you just assume
you're walking around the house at alltimes streaming out to something like there's just
there is just kids walking around withphones laptops open, you know, especially
with the virtual school stuff. Thatis just like we just assume we are
(26:32):
constantly something is happening streaming. Someonesay, there's zoom calls happening with friends
in other calls on the phone asyou know they're working on It's just Yes,
that's just what it's like. That'swhat it's like, said Beck,
and he knew no, No,that was ever last. That's what it's
like. Where it's that you're thinkingwhere it's at? Where time? Is
(26:59):
a pete a piece of wax fallingon a termite who's choking on you?
Are? What you is? That'sFrank Tappa, Okay Zappa through a flies
eye, that's uh, that's CaptainBeef. Oh that's Sugar Ray anyway speaking
a stream and we're still doing apodcast right the uh uh so Outriders.
(27:22):
I have enjoyed it so far.I feel it was a weird thing where
that felt like the first target practicething was just me not being able to
aim correct I think I was assumingthere was better amosist with this controller.
It looked like I had touched theXbox controller for the first time. I
was trying to do this targeting thing. It was just maybe the sensitivity was
(27:44):
too high for me. I don'tknow. There was something about trying to
get headshots in that first targeting thingon Outriders that I embarrassed myself. And
I'm pretty bad at video games, but it was just spraying the gun all
over the place on first time I'mwith the controller. Heaven, just just
go all around there and wait,I can hear literally everyone's eyes in the
world rolling listening to you say thosethings. I'm great as you're hreaking sound.
(28:10):
Yeah, yeah, it's more likeI was. I kept I kept
tapping the left trigger thing for thehopefully get that aim thing that some games
just have of like oh tap itlike double tap and this Call Duty does
that a little bit right. Itwill like when you go aim down sights,
it'll kind of snap a little towardsthe player. Yeah, like I
was tiny little bit of amesis.Yeah, yeah, I was kind of
looking for that. Alex has beenup to uh well, I have been
(28:34):
playing a game on the PlayStation five, which is a PlayStation four game that
is a remake of a PlayStation threegame. Uh, and I'm of course
talking about Near Replicant version one pointtwo two four seven, four four eight
seven one three nine. I broughtit up. Wow, good job,
it's like a mute right. Yeah, So this is a remake of Near
(28:56):
Replicant, the original Near. Therewere two versions of the original Near.
There was Near Replicant and there wasNear Gestalt. Yes, and Gestalt is
the one that came out here inNorth America. The only major difference between
the games was that the protagonist wasdifferent, and the reason for that being
I guess that they decided that thebrother character, who is the main protagonist
(29:18):
in Replicants, would not be aswell received in the West as a gruff
Dad, because they changed him toa gruff dad in Gestalt. And here's
the thing. People liked the gruffDad. They actually thought it was a
pretty good version of whatever that characterwas supposed to be. But we didn't
(29:40):
get Replicants officially in the United States. Now now now we have it with
the brother with the brother, andso it is a remake like it is.
They've They've done some pretty substantial workto it. They've they've overhauled the
combat somewhat to make it a littlebit more in line Automata. Okay,
it's not a carbon copy of thatcombat system, but it feels like they've
(30:03):
they've definitely added some style points toit. I should say right up front,
I have not played the original Near. I have watched people play it,
but I have not played it myself, and I don't know the full
breadth of what happens in that game. I've had aspects of it described to
me, but mostly I've told peopleto shut up because I want to eventually
play that game on my own.So just to set the stage too,
I don't know the Nearer verse, like, how many are these the games
in it? Is this set likeNearer? It's these two and so the
(30:26):
Near universe. And I got acorrection in the in the comments for the
quick look for this, Thank youwhoever said this. It is based on
the original Drake and Guard, soit is in that universe. It is
based on the fifth ending Drack andGuard one. Oh Wow wild Yes,
(30:47):
apparently a god dies in that gameand falls, and that is what sets
the falls onto the earth, andthat is what sets the events of Nearer
in motion? Oh wow, okay, so technically they're like they are related,
but also like dragon Guard, Iguess went off in its own direction
and then they eventually did near.So okay, was it? Was it
a chain guard? Was there anykind it? Probably I've never played a
(31:10):
dragon Guard. I can't tell you, like I'm going off Wikipedia entries here,
but so I've been playing this.I'm about i'd say, about five
hours into it. It's I thinkit's a technically a twenty hour game,
but it's one of those where like, once you finish it, you should
probably go back and do the newnew game, plus because there's a bunch
of added shit to it, becauseit's fucking Yoko Taro. So I really
loved Automata. That's that's not asecret. I'm into what this game is
(31:36):
doing, irrespective of the changes theyhave made to the combat and kind of
the you know, the polishing ofmaking everyone everything look real nice, you
know it. I've seen a coupleof reviews to be like, hey,
this game takes a while to getgood. I think that kind of does
it a disservice. I understand that, like, at a certain point the
story turns and it gets real wild. But I think the basic game,
(31:57):
which is just you running around thisworld trying to help your sister Yona,
who has this bad disease that makesweird shadowy runs appear on her skin and
apparently feels like shit. You're justtrying to find a cure for her,
You're trying to help her out,and in the process of that, stabbing
a lot of monsters. I stillthink that part of the game is good.
(32:20):
I think the build up to whateverthe hell is coming next is still
enjoyable and well done, and I'mlooking forward to seeing where it goes.
But I don't think it takes youknow, ten hours to get good necessarily.
It just sounds like that's where thereal wild shit kicks in. You
do you as somebody who likes automataa lot, and I also like automata.
(32:42):
Is it filling in any stuff fromthere that it's making it? Oh?
Yes, okay, it is allright, that's cool. There are
I'm told a great many threads fromAutomata that will make a lot more sense
to you. Oh that's lay originalmirror, That's that's I think what I
would go to it for. Likethe only one. I will I will
sort of spoil here because it's notreally a spoiler, and it's it's a
(33:02):
thing that you discover like within thefirst twenty thirty minutes of the game.
But like Devila and Popula, thetwo characters from Automata, like they feature
heavily into what's going on in thisworld, and I think you get some
context for like who they were andwhat was going on before the events of
Automata there. Oh wait, Ithink I'm thinking of the wrong characters.
(33:22):
I they're like twins, yeah,I remember them, Yeah, kind of
flitting in and out and in thatbase near the camp, the kind of
so here, like in the villagethat you live in, like Papola is
sort of like the local I guessregent, you know, like she kind
of runs the village, but alsoshe's like the healer. And then like
Devila is just hanging out with herguitar and just like playing music for the
(33:45):
children. And at least that's whereI'm at in the game in Automata there
by that like desert level a lot, right, I believe, I think,
so yeah, all right, allright, I'm curious. It's it's
weird, like every until I wasinto Automato. I was like, I'll
try this because it's getting a lotof praise and I feel like it's one
(34:07):
of those things that I probably wouldnot go to, and for me,
it's probably one of those things thatonce it gets it tooks in. I'm
like, this is great, butyes, surface surface level probably bounce around
on. I mean, look this, this game feels. They have not
changed the game feel in a hugelysubstantial way, like this still feels like
an Xbox three sixty era action gamewith I think just an overall like better
(34:32):
flowing combat system than what was therebefore, because that game looked and felt
pretty old by all accounts when itcame out in twenty ten. Does it
have the the I forget what theycall the system for the We have the
can put a ram or whatever intoyour your so here it's magic words because
you don't have a drone. Thereisn't like a little drone guy following around
(34:52):
it. It's a magic book namedGrimoire Vice. Okay. And he is
a delightful asshole. Kind of soundslike a very sarcastic Pierce Brosnan. And
he is really fussy And what ayear for fussy magic books. I would
(35:12):
take it. I would take viceover team a thousand times. And this
doctor he's he's getting it, he'sgetting is not getting into my relationship business,
right yeah, okay, yeah, but yeah, so that so that's
where all your magic comes from. And like you know, you shoot magic
bullets and do magic attacks through thebook. But there's also these magic words
(35:36):
things that you attach to your weapons, to your magic attacks, to your
even your hand to hand stuff, and those give you a little bonuses based
on that each time you learn anew thing. Okay, like it.
I think anyone who liked Automata absolutelyshould go try this out. I think
even if you didn't get around toAutomata and maybe you were waiting to,
you know, play the original beforeyou played Automata, this seems like that.
(35:59):
Like I have friends who love lovethe original Mirror, desperately love the
original Mirror, and the ones Iknow who have played this have been like,
they did not fuck this up likethey so when they say better,
they did. They didn't ruin whatmade it good. That's the they love
the Gestalt version, or they loveI think that's the version most people over
here played. Okay, and thisis not that No, but it's like
(36:22):
again, other than the character andvoice, I don't think those two versions
were really that different. Okay,oh I forgot it reminded me with the
upgrade stuff. I finished the DishonoredDLC. It was it was short.
(36:42):
It was shorter than I thought itwould be. Uh, and I really
liked it. And thanks everybody whorecommended I played that before. Yeah,
thank you who recommended playing that beforemoving on. I found it. I
played those games to try and getlow chaos, which I didn't always love
trying to do. And maybe Ishould have just played it the way I
(37:02):
wanted to, but I kind ofwant to look ass but I am kind
of looking forward to trying to doit, just the murder Man running through
those games and the way you reallyfeel, the way I really feel just
as if he really is. Imean, you're kind of assassins, like
just going I mean the whole time, a kind of assassins. You just
kind of you're kind of real bloodyline there. Yeah, especially in the
(37:24):
DLC, and you're like even theguy who was like the outsiders, like
what are you doing? Man?You were kind of a badass. You're
just keeping everybody alive. All right, that's the way you will playing.
Listen, Okay, get that whaleoil on you get So I think the
I think the thing they did betterin the DLC, I'll say for you
(37:45):
know, because it's you know, the topic of a lot of conversation.
The thing that they did better inthe DLC is I felt the power,
the powers and the weapons that theygave you were more even evenly distributed between
a pure stealth, non murder runand the murder stuff. I felt like
in the original mainline dishonored a lotof the stuff. I was like,
(38:07):
well, I'm never going to usethis because I'm not I'm not killing anybody.
I'm trying not to ye. Butyeah, I liked it, and
I thought they did interesting things withslight twists on some of the powers that
made it sometimes more difficult, butin interesting variation, not if not a
whole other change. So that's goodstuff. It was on game Pass it's
(38:27):
that bethes the dishonored or you know, miss well, it's got that's got
the frame boost on it. It'sgot that uh, you know that special
sauce they put in their whale oilthat they put in there that monster energy
Streak report right in there and theenergy oil. It runs really well.
I don't know where I'm gonna doDishonored too. I don't also don't know
(38:51):
if any ending stuff comes into Dishonoredtoo, like a save thing. I
don't think so, but I'll lookit up. Some people have said to
me it's just Honor two. Maybeon the PC is the way to go,
because it didn't get the kind ofenhanced frame stuff that the first I
remember hearing that. Yeah, it'sgood, it's good. It's fun game
(39:12):
anyway, Alex. Anything else that'spretty much been it. I've I've,
like I said, I've nearest kindof been my week and your weakness I
know, yeah, you know itreally is just that soundtrack. That soundtrack
is actually my weakness is a mealin it. I believe that Emil's origins
are revealed this game, but Ihave not gotten to Emeal yet. So
(39:36):
okay, I just got Kayene, who I think is like kind of the
first companion h that that that thatcomes along, and she's real fun.
There's a part where you're fighting aboss with her and she just calls it
in a bitch ass and says she'sgoing to tear out its motherfucking heart,
which is fun. So yeah,no, it's it's got a tone,
(39:57):
Baclar. Hey, how's your tone? My tone is good. It's like,
uh, it's room temperature tone.I had my second shot on Friday
of last week, and let metell you, that fucked me up.
(40:19):
Like I was down for the countfor as it was, the aches,
the chills. I had one hundredand one fever for eight hours. Squeaks,
you're doing No, I was therewith you. I just didn't know.
I just didn't want anyone else tobe like, what are they talking
about? Everybody that has never stoppedus before. That's true. So you
(40:44):
know, I'm on the couch allday on Saturday. Hey, at least
you got the shot. It's youknow, that's the that's the good.
Oh hell yeah, oh hell there. This is not getting through the I
regretted. I know there's a lotof a lot of folks out there,
not in the States, just kindof counting to the days until they can
get it. Yeah, and getyour fucking shot if you can wait those
(41:06):
fucking patents, for the love ofgod, Yeah, I mean, get
the fucking shot if you can.If you're eligible. Get the fucking shot.
So I'm sitting there on the couchall day and my family is having
a great day without me. Theyleft me, and I'm I look over
and I'm like, oh, there'san Xbox controller x the way we have
an Xbox in the family room here. Let me boot this up. I'm
(41:29):
looking around. I'm looking around andI see Superliminal and I'm like, you
know what, I talk about thisgame a lot. I feel like I
always wanted to play it when itfirst came out. I'm gonna start this
game and maybe my fever dream haveno recollection of it the next day,
but I'm gonna play it right now. And I did. I played it
(41:49):
for about two hours, and Igotta say I really enjoyed myself. No
good. Here's the thing with thatgame. That game is all about perspective,
right. So that is the Thatis the hook, that is the
gimmick. It is basically what Portaldoes to like, you've woken up in
a test facility. Now figured outhow to get out of there. They
might have some nefarious ideologies along theway, but you're the test subject.
(42:14):
You're the rat in the maze.Go figure it out. The main gimmick
that this game revolves around is thatperspective thing right where you look at a
little thing up close. You couldjust make it tiny. It's it's basically
how you are perceiving the object you'reholding in relation to the rest of the
room. It's like free in spaceonce you grab it. When you are
(42:37):
holding it, and again you're notholding it, you're just sort of like
it's just sort of floating in frontof you in a way, you're half
life magic. Yeah, it's justsort of like telepathy in a way.
And the second you absorb it andit's in that thing, it sort of
can pass through anything. It hasno like physical properties that matter. Now
the second your like, you know, the second you look at the rest
(42:59):
of the room, you know,if you want it to be enormous,
you look at the furthest corner ofthe room, and then therefore the perspective
of the thing becomes huge. You'relet go and this little you know,
chest pawn is now the size ofa giraffe. So you do that for
hours and hours, and some ofthe puzzles are a lot of fun.
Some of them are I you knowwhat it is. I love when I
(43:22):
get into a room and there's justnothing, Like usually you got like some
set pieces and you're like, Okay, I gotta I love when I get
into a room and there's literally nothing, and in my you know, fever
dream staying, I'm just like,oh God, is this the game I
should be playing right now? ButI love the fact that, like with
nothing, you know that you willget through it and you'll figure it out
(43:45):
and somehow the magic gets revealed. And there's a good handful of those situations
and superliminal that I've already encountered,uh to you know, satisfying degrees of
of which I'm just like, Igotta keep I gotta keep doing this playing
it. So that is what Idid in terms of games. And yeah,
(44:06):
I'm I'm a I'm glad I finallystarted. I'm a super fan.
Now I'm a super superliminal fan.Oh it's it's like now we'll see.
I mean I played two hours, yeah, probably halfway done maybe, And
then I'm such a dick. Idownloaded the Resideval eight thing. I know,
you know that village in the village, and then uh, I forgot
(44:27):
about it. So here's a questionI have, and you can't answer it
because you haven't played this yet. It's called Resideval village, but everything they've
shown is just one house. Noboy, what's the deal your jokes now?
But it's happening. That was greatdelivery, great delivery. Good job
nailed it. Did you see Alexnailed that joke? We did? You
(44:47):
ever heard? Has done? Allthe giant ladies step on me jokes.
Okay, I've got to find somedifferent material. That's ship's old hat.
But one Apparently you didn't realize onehouse can be a village. No,
one fucking can't. I just madeit up and seemed to have no problem
saying it, So therefore it isnow true. That's where it comes.
It takes a village. It comesfrom it takes the village. When they
(45:07):
say it takes a village, they'rereally just talking about one house outside of
the castle. They're talking about theturkey Sichers Johnson talking about puke on your
car as you play. As youplay, it's gonna be a good day.
Too loud you pull out, blastingthree eleven as loud as you possibly
care. No, but you're yes, that is a funny observation. Dog
(45:30):
out of our yard resideval village. They call it village because that's the only
fucking word that you can fit Romannumeral villain. No, no, no,
no, no, Bob villa whathappened to Bob? I don't really
(45:54):
know. Pillage. It could havebeen pillage. Pillage. It's not a
fucking Roman numeral. No, butlike no, I'm talking about like a
right, it's v I L Yeah, there's a lot of stuffs. License
to illage. Yeah, I don'tknow how you do it? Yeah,
(46:16):
village. Hey, at some point, hey, maybe what would you would
you be? Okay if the villagecomes inside the house, maybe the house
is okay, Well then put mein a village or fuck off? Okay,
well you're in an assume the houseis in a village. Yeah,
exactly. Maybe there is a villageyou don't know. Well, maybe that
(46:38):
should be in the marketing considering it'sin the title. Oh yes, they're
really losing perspective players because of theinaccurate village title. Alex's like, if
there's not at least more than onehouse, I don't see at least it's
worth of other houses. I'm Iwalk, I'm about back of or anything
(47:00):
else that you downloaded and didn't play. I mean I want to still talk.
Oh, so that the arcade ishere, I'm gonna build it this
weekend, hopefully. I'm super jazzed. I got new, But what is
I got different? I got differentarcade. I feel like you've jumped ahead.
I missed a missed like a comicbook or a chapter in between this.
So last time we talked, youwere talking about what to get.
(47:22):
What did you get? You bought? I bought everything? Yeah, what
does that mean? I bought likea cabinet, prefab, like a prefab,
a prefab cabinet with a four playercontroller thing. Oh, audience,
I don't know how much the audiences. I feel like you sent me some
of this stuff and we didn't talkabout it on air. Yeah, I
sent it to you. I couldhave sworn I sent it to you and
I was like, hey, I'mbuying this or I was just showing so
(47:45):
uh A lot of people aravan onthe site. Uh in the chat right
now, like a lot of peoplewill help me, send me dms,
guided me, held my hand, navigated me through the choppy waters of home
arcade business. And I'm gonna putit together this weekend. So I got
(48:05):
a four player joystick thing, right, you get that. It's got a
track ball in the middle, doesokay? Okay, I have So I
was sort of upset because I hada good time playing Arcnoid and uh in
the Art retro arcade, and I'mlike, fuck, I need a puck,
I need like a rotary thing.Yeah, but I have something.
I have, like a like aUSB volume knob in the house, and
(48:27):
I'm just like, this will probablywork for that shit. Yeah, yeah,
I will. And if it doesn't, it doesn't. But that's whatever.
He bought one that just plugs inthe US. Oh right, I
heard about that. I think hespent an insane amount of money on the
No no, no, no,okay cool. So that's where I'm at
right now. I replaced the buttonson it, or I bought replacement buttons
(48:51):
for it, because I was warnedand I also knew this having played a
lot of arcade stuff lately. Yourfingies, man, they get tired,
like when you're when you're slapping awayon X Men or Ninja Turtles, we
think, no, no, oh, grow up, Alex. I mean,
come on, I absolutely will not. What what'd you get? What
(49:12):
button did you go for the Sanuelor like the curved to the hat Sanuel.
No, so they have a what'sthe Yeah, I got those,
but it's but it's a I guessthe throw is shorter, travel is shorter
on them, and it's a shallowOkay, yeah, it's a shallow or
travel. They're called gold leaf buttons. Okay, I got those in.
(49:34):
I'm excited to put it all together. Uh and now comes, you know,
the fun part of just making thatthing sing. I also got something
which is way overboard, but Ijust had to do it because if you're
gonna do once, you gotta goall in, you gotta go crazy,
you gotta do it right. Ibought a thing that is going to be
the marquis of the cabinet. Okay, it's a marquee and it's got like
(49:57):
a you know, like the whatdo you call it, like the dot
may the little LEDs in it,right, so it can display anything,
and it's in color, so youcould like put acrost the message on it.
And when you're playing a game, the thing can plug into your computer,
sniff out what game you're playing, and then display that in the marquee
while you play it. That's prettycool as if it were the original Marquis
(50:19):
or close I mean close enough,or it's just a logo if it resembles
the logo and any fancy that seemsfun. So do you have an arcade
in your house at this point?I mean like you you kind of have
like four pinball machines, ish,now you have this free standing arcade machine.
Do you have a person that justhas like a coin dispenser walking around.
(50:44):
Well, we put in the snackbar and that kind of is probably
the thing that sealed the deal.I decided to buy all this like cheap
shit so people could trade in theirfucking tickets for spellings of nachos. And
that is an NBA JAM cabinet thatdoesn't work, and I think legally an
arcade yeah out of border sign Slapit on an NBA JAM cabinet and you're
good. You know. I washaving this conversation with my uh my lovely
(51:07):
wife the other day and she wassort of like, you know, I'd
really like to have some sort ofpermanent thing in that room, and I
was like, yeah, it's prettypermanent. We got like four p's gonna
have this arcade. There is acouch in there too. Uh, But
she's like yeah, but like Idon't know, imagine we like paint the
walls or something, and like, what is this? What is that room?
Really? Imagine? It's like, hey, Jeff, you know,
(51:30):
someday we're gonna have people over thishouse again. We it's not just always
gonna be your little arcade room room. Imagine, you know, we'll have
guests in the house again. Yeah, to play the arcade games. Yeah.
I'm not a fan. I'm Idon't. I am not one who
can who likes kicking the can downthe road to fill. But I'm certainly
(51:50):
kicking the fucking can down the fuckingroad with this thing. But here's here's
the deal, and Alex is right, this is a fun room to be
in. Oh when we come backand people, people are gonna I want
people to hang out in this room. I want to put a TV on
the wall as well. I wantthis to be like the game room where,
like, you know, the areyou gonna build a shitty little wood
(52:13):
wood panel bar in there? Thankyou for assuming it would be shitty.
I don't know why it couldn't bethe whole point. No, Finny's gonna
build it. It's not gonna beshitty. No, it needs to be.
It's a whole bar and it's woodpanel, it needs to be garbage.
Come no, that maybe if Iwas like, you know, I
know she gets TB bar from theCBS office and Brian doesn't need anything.
(52:37):
And now I know who I'm notgetting advice on with this project. I
mean, come on, you needto get the cable management under control.
That's my thing. Oh please,it's the least of our I mean,
I wanted to just be like avery fun place for kids and adults.
And you know we are gonna payI just you know, that's what this
room it was either gonna be likeyou know, I told you like,
(53:00):
it's a it's a it's another roomthat we probably you know, ever,
it's not a room that we alwayswere going to be in. I guess
I see what you're doing. Isee what you're doing. Don't don't fucking
what do you mean? I getit now, you're trying to get friends
for your kid, your balls,Like I want to go over to his
(53:20):
house. He doesn't need me tobuy his kids. That's not what I'm
saying. I'm not saying. Butyou know, friendships on his own.
I'm just saying you're helping him along. No, listen to me, listen
to Let's get one thing straight here, sh it's for me. Do do
(53:42):
you get? Do you get likeparanoid? Ever with the like your son
playing on the machines that have togo back every like heyy lettle loosen on
the buttons there a little yeah,I mean, it's happen with that thing
didn't happen with Turtles like he well, he kind of bounced off the turtles
pinball that that Turtles pinball from andfor me too. That game has a
great theme, but like it's not. I don't think it's one of their
(54:02):
best. But what happened with it? They wanted it back? Yeah?
Ohh I think it broke No,No, they wanted it back. Yeah,
Okay, he grew. He reallyliked guns and Roses. He was
upset when guns and Roses life. But it's fun, you know. I
mean, look, we were homefor a year. I know. No,
(54:24):
I do not regrege you the arcade. I mean, if you arcade,
but you know you have an extraroom. If I had an extra
okay, if I had an extrathree rooms, one of them might become
something where there's an arcade ish thingin it. I got two other rooms
booked already. You know when wewhen we bought this house, we were
just like this maybe is you know, more than we need, but you
(54:46):
know, we also needed to getout of where we were and sometimes your
hand gets forced and uh, youknow, it was either going to be
this or like the piano room.I am, come on, what you
gonna do it now? You puta virtual piano in there that Matt from
Big and the kids were really, look, we're lucky enough to have an
extra room, like yeah, youknow, yes, live in the dreams.
(55:07):
Yes. When I bought that jazzmachine and like Ryan Davis and I
went on you know, many tripsto go pick up other arcade machines.
There were people that had like arcaderooms and I was like, this is
fucking awesome, Like, oh,what you really need is the I have
one. Oh I think it's myparents' basement. Like a beer sign like
I've got like or like or aneon sign or something that says like game
(55:30):
over or the game on or schlitz. I don't I don't know if I
don't know if we're going here,I don't know if we're gonna go that
route. Uh, you know,I feel like I'll butt heads a little
bit with my wife. What didyou I mean? I just get opens,
get an open closed sign so thatlike your son knows that, like,
oh it's closed, it's closed today, Yeah, it opens up,
(55:51):
it opens again at seven thirty amtomorrow, you know the time, it's
bedtime, it's it's closed. Thegames are off, power them down.
It's get a little bit, geta little curtain and be like sorry,
closing up. That's cool, that'scool. I so badly wish I did
not know what actually was required tomaintain arcade machines, because I would love
(56:13):
to do that someday for myself. But like, I ain't got that kind
of time, I ain't got thatkind of money, I ain't got that
kind of patience. Well that's anice thing about sending back those pinball machines,
right, It's like, yeah, you got a fresh one that comes
back, and it's just like,oh, it's gone. I don't have
to you don't have to do themaintenance, because you know, doing the
maintenance on a pinball machine already backoff. I think it's involved if you
own it it's a it's it's youknow, it's it's a passion project,
(56:35):
passion project. But yeah, Ido want to like figure out a way
to like make this somehow straddle theline of like, oh, this room
is not like Arcade Offensive, whereit's like people can hang out in here
and have a good time. Youknow. It's not like the keyboard room
where nobody can go in. No, the keyboard room, don't touch,
don't breathe in there, don't lookat it, don't go in there.
(56:57):
That keyboard board room is gonna costyou. Hey, you want to see
something really fucking cool? Oh yeah, cooler than the cooler than the Turtles
machine and all this stuff. Ohyeah, oh yeah, coming here?
Have a seat? Is coming here? What's that have sated this computer?
Touch? Touch that keyboard? Touchit? Yeah? That type on that?
How's that experience? That? Really? That's a keyboard? Yeah?
(57:19):
Yeah? I like those switches? What is that has that feel? You
know? You not get Vinny,Finny, I'm telling you when I built
one for my wife, it changedfor working life. Well my hair,
Finny, Yes, I just I'mjust imagining, like hit the thing and
(57:39):
it's just my hair just goes down. To my show. There's you look
you you know, I will beatthis drum from now to Kennedy. Listen,
there there there is a story here. Listen. Trademark, trademark,
trademark. There's a story here wherea guy, now not, there's a
(58:00):
story where like Backlar builds a keyboardand something happens he spills water into it,
or something happens very dust and everythinghe typed on that keyboard starts coming
true. Like that's where you're going. Yeah, it's gonna be like he
types out of. He's like,I really wish I could be big.
It's just I really wish building keyboardswas actually cool. Oh that's not nice.
(58:25):
Now it's not. It's a lovelykeyboard. It's a really nice keyboard.
I'm not denying that this one ischeap. This is a lot cheaper.
Don't worry. There's only four. Are we holding up a different keyboard?
Yeah? I built the other onefor like you know, the stream
and you know for it's actually behindme there. But I use every day.
(58:47):
The one I use every day islike my daily a daily go to.
Oh you ever your every day carrykeyboard? Everybody needs like a weekend
keyboard. You know, a holidaykeyboard. Yeah, yeah, now you're
getting this one for passover. That'sright, that's good. You're gonna go,
(59:09):
okay, here's the story. Ready, You're gonna you're gonna run at
it. You're gonna run out ofkeys on the keyboard, right, You're
gonna like, oh you you're gonnafumble one. It's gonna go ding ding
ding ding ding ding and fall inyour heating thing, right, and you'll
be like, oh, it's Sunday, nobody's open, and you're gonna go
into this little shop in town thatyou didn't even know existed. You're walking
and by and it's just like it'sgot curios from around the world, you
(59:29):
know, it's got like shrunken headsand all this stuff, and be like,
do you don't carry keycaps? Doyou be like I do? For
a price? Oh, you'll payme later, don't worry, you know,
Like, yeah, yeah's exactly right. We all pay in the end,
okay, sir. Just and you'regonna put those on. They're gonna
be black with like gold like foilon them, and you're gonna put them
(59:52):
on and you're gonna type and you'rejust gonna damage your ship. It's just
because stuff is just gonna be happeningall of a sudden. Refrigerators gonna be
all over the place. It's gobe amazing. No refrigerators your problem these
days. But that's true, that'strue, that's right, that's right.
Could you just type Vinnie gets anew fridge installed? It does ordering fridges.
(01:00:13):
Let me tell you, Let metell you about my first world problems,
like yeah, well, while whileyou're not, you know, roasting
me alive on Twitter, you worryabout your own. My biggest problem with
the fridge these days is how doyou How do you fit a seventy two
inch tall fridge in a space that'sonly seventy one inches tall? Let me
tell you how do you do?I used to care about that problem for
(01:00:35):
you. I used to care once. I used to. There's a time
brief about eleven minutes. What happened? And you said something to me that
you couldn't take back? Something tome? Was something to me that you
know you said something to me.You ever read a tweet and you just
cry, yes, but what didI? What was it? Can you?
My memory is very what I say. No, don't play this game.
(01:00:57):
Don't play this game. With me. Well, I'm not gonna cry
on this show, not this week. What did you say? What did
I say? What do you mean? You know what you said? Well?
Did I say? Yeah? Well, I remember is posting a thing?
What are we talking about? Yeah? I don't remember this is I
remember asking for fridge advice online.I can't remember anything after that. Then
he asked for fridge advice online,Alex. And then I took that as
(01:01:19):
some sort of like insult because Ithought he was making fun of me,
right, because you're the maytag man. Yes, I am the whirlpool man
whatever. May tag Man doesn't workhere anymore. Okay, So what happened
was he's like, oh, Ilove we lost some fridge advice. You
know, I lost some fridge advice. Even though the fridge man himself came
to work bag anymore, I'm respectingit. Well, it didn't seem like
(01:01:45):
years. So I said, look, man, you know, you gotta
be careful with what you say becausethese, you know, tweets, tweets
can hurt people, right when youbring up fridges, fridges you know you
get that, right, We understandthat we're on the same page there,
right, Yeah, And basically gotto the point where you told me what
sex read it? We read what'snext? It's important to the story.
(01:02:08):
I actually am just kind of stallingso I could scroll down. I wrote,
Wow, Vinny, just wow,Try and remember who you're hurting with
tweets like this, that's all.And then you said what did you say?
Only there are a way to seethis conversation somewhere there is. I
(01:02:28):
don't know why I can't read thethread. Vinny tweets three times a month.
Oh yeah, I can't find Forsome reason, I cannot find it.
But basically, uh, you said, what did my new fridge say
to your new keyboard? I likeyour type? And then because I thought
(01:02:51):
that was so brain dead, Iwas like, I'm not going to continue
this volley, because then I'd bedisrespecting the game and and what And then
Vinnie wrote, what's the difference betweenyou and my fridge? My fridge was
cool before it gave up. Damn, damn sdee. Would you read that
(01:03:16):
again out loud? It still hurtsso good. It actually hurt me a
little bit to hear. It's like, you gotta the Twitter game is you
get the expectations so low they you'relike, oh, this guy's this guy's
got nothing. And then you're like, oh, I got him. Here
we go gonna go dunk on topof them, and there comes Caravella up
(01:03:38):
with the smack that blo hold outof here. Uh? And then what
did you write back to that nothinghappen because you just ever, you ever
ever be so frozen with with fearand shame. Yeah, and just more,
(01:04:00):
it's more disbelief that you're one ofyour best friends would actually do this
in public to you. You know, I guess, I guess I just
couldn't bring myself to the computer againthat night, and I think I went
to bed around nine. Is thatworse than the time when you posted that
old photo of like your early scenethosting duties and I asked you if they
(01:04:24):
let you host a scene at showfor your bar mitzvah. That was good.
That was That was Alex. Thatwas like a I'll give you,
I salute you, sir. Uh. This Vinnie's effort the other evening was
first degree murder, cold blooded, cold blooded murder. I also asked for
(01:04:45):
your permission before I threw that oneat Yeah, because you know you're a
good person and no, I'm not, but I appreciate you saying well for
the context of this bit. Yeah, so you know, look, we'll
see the fallout sweets. I alreadyI already called the the what do they
call it, the ARC National Archivesand said, hey, make sure when
(01:05:06):
you make sure you get that onein there. I don't know, I
don't know how often you back upyour ship, but you should just make
you want to just run that rightnow, Just run that crown right now,
just because some good shit just happenedon Twitter. Just tell me,
whoever is it, hit that buttonright now. It needs to be there
for all time. All right?Should we take a place I hate myself
(01:05:27):
to sleep that night. I justneed to pizza the hut. He's delicious.
We're gonna go take a break.I'm gonna play the music. We'll
be right back. Make sure thisis set up and we're back. And
(01:05:50):
I have exciting news. Something. What happened? Do you the mouse come
back? What mass the mouse cameback? There? Just laughing at that
thing going across the yard. There. Sorry, no exciting news. My
wife had a pork chop for lunchand didn't eat the whole thing, and
(01:06:14):
I got to have a little porkchop when I was Oh, that's the
exciting part. Got your wife's left. That's weirdly weird when you say it
like that, but greasy fingering Caravella, your wife's pork shop because I don't
think so. I don't think so. They're goddamn kids in this house.
(01:06:36):
Okay, you guys, watch yourmouth. All right, let's there,
all right, let's get uh,let's get going on the news here,
Alex Navarro. What's happening in theworld the video games? Oh well,
(01:06:59):
let's see, let's start here.Overwatch. It's a game I have enjoyed
many for many years, on andoff, though I've not played it in
some time. The game director,Jeff Kaplan, face of the franchise,
you might say, is not thatanymore. Jeff Kaplan, after nineteen years
(01:07:21):
at Blizzard, is exiting the company. Kay, who's left? Well,
the person taking over is Aaron Keller, who was the assistant game director on
the original Overwatch and I assume onOverwatched too. They will be taking over
full time. That game is notscheduled to come out this year, so
(01:07:45):
you know, I don't know whatthis really does to their development cycle.
It sounds like they're just continuing apace. I have my concerns about that
game. They do not necessarily dovetailspecifically into Kaplan leaving More has to do
with just boy. That game.Everything they've shown of it sure does look
like more Overwatch, and it sureis taking a long time. I wonder
(01:08:06):
what's happening, you know? Interesting? I was reading, I'm reading,
I'm looking here at Kaplan's message. Why are there no capitals in it?
Is the caplan? Don't think hewrites with them? I guess. Okay,
is that just just like all theeyes or lower cases. Yeah,
it's like a you know, anE. Cummings type. Is that just
(01:08:27):
this thing? Okay? Is thatokay? Okay? I don't know.
I uh oh wait, no,was that? Maybe this is just the
polygon uh transcription of it? Becausethe next paragraph has capitals in it.
Anyway, that's nothing weird to transcribea things no capitals because the next statement
right after that has capital That's whatI'm saying, So, okay, sometimes
(01:08:48):
caps get lost in transitive things.Yeah yeah, hey, maybe it's like
a statement like no cap No capsare entertainment in a statement. So there's
no caplan of this ship oh god, okay, uh wow, wow,
expect more news. No he's notthere. Okay, yeah, okay die
(01:09:11):
blow? Should we should we?Uh? That's uh. People really enjoyed
his commun What I hear is thatpeople really enjoyed the communication style he had
over Overwatch. I assume that's whatI hear. Yeah, they love the
no capitals thing. They were wayinto it with their biggest thing. That's
the thing they loved. Okay, what's next? So this is a weird
(01:09:32):
one. Not a bad thing, but a weird one. So Epic Store
announced they are adding some other nongaming apps to the store, including like
iHeart Radio, Brave which is aweb browser thing. I don't know,
some other stuff. But they arealso adding a gaming app to the Epic
Game Store, the itch Io store. They're putting they're putting the Apple Store
(01:09:59):
on there terence the terms of thesettlement. Yep no, like, so
the itch store is just going tobe it's going to have you know,
a presence I guess within the EpicStore. And I mean you can still
go to itch Io and just buythe games there if you want. But
as this uh this new store inKataku helpfully points out, there are like
one hundred and sixty million registered userson the Epic Store, so that kind
(01:10:23):
of visibility is probably a pretty bigdeal for them. Yeah, I'll be
curious to see how the integration onthat. So would you be launching Yeah,
I'll have to try it out.I assume I mean the app and
then it will launch your games fromwithin the Itch app. That I don't
know. So the Itch stuff traditionallyhas just been you get executables, they're
(01:10:45):
part of a an application, whathave you. So I'm wondering if you
buy through the Epic Itch app,if you have to play them within the
Epic Itch App or not. Maybenot because I feel like that would be
kind of a deal breaker. ButI don't don't know. Yeah. Still,
I mean it's good for the creatorsthat use that platform. Yeah.
Yeah, a lot of cool stuffon Itch. There was an adventure game
(01:11:10):
I was actually looking to check outon there that was free on Itch.
I should look at that storefront more. Uh, yes, that's a lesson
here? What else, alex?Uh Battlefield? Okay, what about it?
There's more of it coming? Oh, get out of town. Yeah,
(01:11:30):
they're totally making new moment. Howcould they've done all the battles,
Alex, how could they there areno more fields that they're Do you think
they're too good to just do thosebattles again? No, I don't not.
What do we know what this is? No, all we know at
this point is that one of themis coming out later this year, that
is the target release the other one. They're multiple, they are multiple of
them. There's apparently two battlefields currentlyin the works. Whatever. The next
(01:11:56):
one is a consame kind of okasbattlefield. It's dice. They're making more
battlefield. I mean, yeah,I mean you know what that means?
No, No, I don't.Is that Star Wars is that battlefield front
yet? Okay, so battlefront doesnot fall under the battle field like genre.
(01:12:19):
Literally the words if you say that, if they said there are two
battlefields, it would not be abattlefront, That's what I'm hearing. No,
it would be like two battlefields donot equal a battlefront. You can't
have two battlefields and then suddenly StarWars is there. That's not yeah,
alright, alright, alright, Solike when you say call of duty,
somebody said there's a new call ofduty, you wouldn't assume that, like,
hey, we have multiple Spider man, you wouldn't assume it's black ops
(01:12:42):
coming in like that. That wouldn'tfall into the call of You're you are
trying something wicked here, You're not. I'm saying it's the same. It's
not the same thing. It's notthe same. One has laser puw pew
sword ship, and the other oneis out these old guns, one of
the kind of Star Wars, andone is the EA All of Duty game.
What what call of duty? It'sjust like, hey, check out
(01:13:03):
these different guns each time? Yeah, what guns are we using in this
stupid fucking story. I don't knowwhat's the seventies? These guns? Yeah,
you're you're you're doing no in mybrain and my brain like Battlefront and
Battlefield they're just like, you know, you go down a path and you
made a laught and you're in like, oh, it's Battlefront with star It's
Battlefield with Star Wars, and godown and make it right, and you're
(01:13:25):
like, oh, it's battlefield. You know, that's that's they came from.
They came from the similar place. That's maybe that's just my brain learning
a lot about you. Okay,Yeah, I mean I always do very
a little bit good. So yeah, not so fun? Is it not
so fun? Is it? Caravell? It's good? Look like, hey,
no, I learned. I'm abetter person for it. I've grown
(01:13:45):
a little bit in the last fiveminutes we had at we had we had
a little fun here at my expense. That's okay, I goofed, I'm
goof in. That's what we do. I played my role as the goof
And now you guys had your funand I have my fun. Now we
can move on to the serious news. Great, what else is tell me?
So? No? No, Myactual question was, uh, is
(01:14:10):
that it just battle for Battlefield? It is? Yeah, they just announced
this today like it's literally a heycheck it out, there's more Battlefield coming
out this year, and you knownotice and then also they are working on
another thing, but they have notspecified beyond that. Maybe we'll hear more
around what one might call any three. Okay, okay, any three,
we're doing any three? Got alot get a lot of chat chatter here
(01:14:33):
with the so don't send this inwith the battle Front and the Pandemics series
and that the pandemic. I guessI got to clarify that the studio pandemic.
Ah, yes, four dice Sothank You Chat. They should maybe
change that name anyway. Next story, Next story. I want to say
(01:14:54):
this was talked about for a whilebut and that was officially coming to fruition.
But traditionally, when you have playedfree to play games on the Xbox
family of systems, you have neededgold at least in order to do multiplayer
online play stuff through those games, which kind of I sort of understand why
(01:15:17):
things were that way, but alsokind of defeats the idea of free to
play, you know what I mean. So they are doing away with that
in a number of titles, includingsome biggins. But you know, so
there will be exceptions to this. They are not getting away entirely from games
with gold having to gold being requiredfor certain multiplayer experiences that are otherwise free,
(01:15:41):
kind of like, for instance, free to play weekend promotions. Where
a premium game is a thing thatyou're playing on a trial basis, you'll
still need gold that sort of thing. But for you know, let's say
you're playing the Apex Legends or TheFortnight or God Help You to Human,
these games will be playable online goingforward with without required to pay for the
(01:16:05):
multiplayer it's too human. Free toplay apparently that's what this list says.
Right on there, the Star TrekOnline and Smite. Wait, am I
thinking of a different Too Human? It's literally on the list, dude.
Okay, look at the list.Alright, alright, Look they put World
(01:16:26):
of Tanks on here, they putJarists on here. Sure a lot of
those things make sense. Too Humanokay, okay, fair enough, the
Reno's Crash course and too Human thetwo grades time Okay, uh okay,
(01:16:47):
I haven't heard what I haven't heardToo Human in a log long long time?
Does that bring back some memories foryou? A lot came back very
quickly. Also on this list,Crackdown and cracked down two games that it
would not have assumed. We're freeto play, but I guess are ap
B reloaded. There's some stuff herethat that's not the app you're looking for.
(01:17:08):
I have to spend some time onthis list. There is not a
mustachioed cop trying to catch Freaky Freddy. That is not Let's assume Freaky Freddy
got away. Freddy he can. He's the only one who doesn't ever get
away. It's always the guy afterthat that gets away. All right,
what else let's see here Capcom announcedthat they are bringing you guys. You
(01:17:31):
like that Ace Attorney, right,I do like Phoenix, right, yeah,
Phoenix. So there's there's a coupleof those games that never came out
in the West. Uh. Theyare the Great Ace Attorney games. There
are two of them. They're inthe set in the nineteenth century. Uh.
And the titles are The Great AceAttorney, The Adventure of Renoska Naruhodo
(01:17:56):
and The Great Ace Attorney two TheResolve of Rio Say Naruhodo. Okay.
One takes place in I believe VictorianLondon. The other is in Japan.
Uh. And they are coming outin July for the first time in the
US. Well, all right,I do like what they're coming on the
Switch. They are coming to Switch, PlayStation four and the PC. Have
(01:18:23):
this? Has this series been onthe I know it's been on the PC.
Has it been on PS four?I'm pretty sure they did a collection
that sounds right, Okay. DoesI remember when that came to the PC.
I didn't know if it came toother stuff, yeah, changed stuff
stuff. No, It's just youknow, this has always been traditionally that
you know, uh, kind ofDS and Nintendo Handheld platform thing for me,
(01:18:47):
right right, But yeah, Iknew they did come to the PC.
Uh. Yeah, I'd like tocheck those out. I like them
hopefully hopefully they have good music.I'll watch that trailer after this. Good
Okay, great as great as speakingof good games that have good music,
Spirit Farer. I like that gamea lot. It was my game of
the year last year than it wasyours. Two hell of a game.
(01:19:10):
So I think we touched on thisa couple months ago. They announced they're
going to do some free DLC forthat game. The first one is now
available. There is a new spiritnamed Lily. They apparently will help create
more light on the boat, somaybe you can navigate a little further at
night than you would before. Ohinteresting, so you can keep sailing at
(01:19:31):
night. It seems like it that'sthat's what they're applying here. But so
there's two more of these updates. Each one adds a new spirit and I
think some other aspects of the gameplay. I've had an itch to go back
and replay that game, but Ithink I'm gonna wait until they put all
this DLC out and then just doit all in one shot. Have they
said if the DLC will be aspirit per DLC. Is that meanly?
(01:19:53):
I think they did, Yes,Okay, I assume they'll be some kind
of activity associated with them, kindof like the trap, the light and
the you know, the fireflies andwith the news. I'm sure there is,
and there's definitely some narrative stuff they'readding. They specifically say that this
update adds some elements to Stella's storythat kind of ties up some loose ends.
So oh that's cool. That's great. So when you load back in,
(01:20:14):
it just starts you pre your finalencounter with the Gate, right I
believe so, yes, yeah, okay, I think that is right.
Great. I love to kind ofwant to start it over though, Like
I kind of want to just likego back for the completionist run at some
point because I didn't, like,I finished all the spirits, but I
didn't do all the side quests.Oh okay, you think you're closed out
of some I was gonna say,I spent so much time cooking and trying
(01:20:36):
to get all the foods and stuffthat I don't know if I could start
that thing over, you know, like now that I know what the rhythm
of that game is, and likehow much you kind of need to focus
on that versus not. I feellike I can get through a lot of
it a lot faster than I didthe first time. I think they if
they who must just talk spirit fairhere, I think I'd probably tune the
economy a little bit better towards Ifeel like at some point you're when you're
grinding out some money or some ofthe Fetch Quest stuff can be a little
(01:21:00):
tough to get those boat upgrades. But I love that game. It's great.
Yeah, I hope. I thinkthat's also on game Pass if people
are looking to check that out.Yes, it is. Do you guys
watch that? They're a Castlevania show. No. I watched the first season
or first couple of episodes and likedit, and then I forgot about it.
Okay, well there's now been threeseasons of that, just in case
(01:21:20):
you were yes, and so thereis going to be a fourth and final
season of this series coming to Netflixas of May thirteenth. But apparently that
is also not the end for Castlevaniastuff on Netflix. They are going to
launch a new series that is setin the same universe, but is not
(01:21:44):
a direct continuation of whatever storyline they'vebeen doing. I have not actually had
the time to sit down and watchCastlevania, but I keep hearing good things
about it, and I would liketo. And actually I'm kind of glad
that they're saying there's a final season, because maybe I'll just one shot a
bunch of that stuff over a weekor two. I think there are very
short seasons, if I like,I think ten episodes max between maybe everything
(01:22:05):
right, Oh, I don't,I don't even. I think the first
season was like three episodes. Really, I maybe I'm maybe I'm bonkers.
I really thought I'm gonna look thisup real quick because I want to make
sure we get that right. You'reright. There were four episodes in the
first season, and then there wereeight in the second. Okay, all
(01:22:27):
right, and the most recent seasonwas ten Okay, yeah, so the
first it was the first season onlythat was short. Yeah, I remember
enjoying it. Well, now there'swatch Now there's gonna be more and it
will close out this this season andthen they will make more of it,
probably with a different protagonist in adifferent you know situation, but same time.
(01:22:48):
Lucard, Uh, what else,Alex Uh, this is at the
last one we're gonna do here? And it's a weird one. Okay,
Like give me, I'm ready,I'm a weird one. So the Assassin's
Creed franchise is very popular. Weall know this. They've made a lot
of those games, and they werelooking to branch out a little more into
(01:23:10):
the sort of transmedia world of maybeother things that are not games but are
also Assassin's Creed. Okay, andso they're teaming up with this. I
guess it's a I don't know ifit's a publisher or if it's just a
series or what. It's called HatchetHeroes and children's books. Hold on,
(01:23:32):
hold on, hold on, HashetHashet? Yes, okay, when do
you say hatchet heroes? I runwith the Hatchets. Sorry, yes,
Hashets Heroes. But the more importantdetail is it's a series of children's books
based on the Assassin's Creed franchise.Okay. Are they're still going to keep
(01:23:57):
the assassins part? Well, that'sI I assume they have to. But
so, okay, it's this isthis is mister Mann or mister Mann,
this is the mister Oh my gosh, this is so fucking weird. There's
an image of mister et CEO herewhat are they? Oh no, what
(01:24:27):
man? Okay, someone here isif someone here has the wrong idea about
what these things are, and Iwant to say it, I don't know
what happened here, man. AllI'm saying is this is happening apparently.
Is there gonna be a page whereit's just et CEO and it says what
(01:24:48):
is this? He touched him witha pokey stick and then EtCO said rescue
and moved on. This is thiscool as hell? This is great.
I mean, I know, likeyou know, they do these like horror
story, like horror like Jason forkids, right where they'll show like a
(01:25:12):
goofy little counselor and a hockey mask. Instead of like a machete, he's
got just like a nail clipper orsomething like that. I think you just
made that up. I feel thatwas like there are things like that,
but this is but it's called likemeet Jason. It's not assassin's cream.
Yeah. How old does a childneed to be before you talk to them
(01:25:34):
about ritual assassination? What I'm tryingto read this very quickly. Here baby's
first templar and these inter shoes. What the hell is going on? This
is weird. This almost seemed what'sthe date on this story here? I
checked, It's not April fools,We're too far along for that and windows
(01:25:54):
still open. Well yeah, anywe broke Finny apparently this year because it
is so First of all, Ihaven't seen I haven't seen the like this,
this book, these characters in probablythirty years, so that that's the
first thing that broke my mind.I mean they do. There are other
questionable collaborations. Yes, yes, that Gears of Where Bernstein Bears thing was
(01:26:17):
weird. Uh that wait, Imean you know, uh, god,
damn it, Papa. Uh.I mean, look, there was a
kid's cartoon for Mortal Kombat. LikeI get it, you know, sometimes
get made. But even the wordsMortal Kombat they do imply I guess something.
(01:26:39):
But that's like, know, noactual people die in it. That
did we did we get here fromthe like did we get here from when
they put the like museum mode in? And then we oh, interesting and
interesting back doored into like oh kidsknow what Assassin's creed is? Now this
is okay different, Like no murdereralready owned this game and it doesn't really
(01:27:01):
like well, I don't think peopleget into the assassination aspect of it at
all. But yeah, I knowthere was an educational version of it,
and you know they but is itsomething like it was weird too. Let's
not let's not say that was notweird. That was weird. It was
weird. But I also saw wherethey were going with it, because yes,
they do these lovingly detailed renderings ofthese ancient worlds, and you know,
(01:27:21):
people wanted to see that stuff. It was not more understandable for sure.
This is just a fucking book forkids. That's called Assassin's Creed.
Yeah, yeah, what are youdoing those games? Alex? Uh,
that's right, that's right. I'msurprised you brought up Moral Kombat and not
(01:27:42):
the RoboCop cartoon. I feel likethat's oh yeah, well, I mean,
I'm just we always just thinking ofvideo games, but there were two
RoboCop cartoons. Man, there's aRambo cartoon. Yeah yeah, well,
got I'd buy this for a dollar? Nice? Nice, nice? See
what the heck is gotta reinvent yourself? I don't know. I want to
(01:28:06):
see a wrist plate on this, dude, I do not fucking no.
Man, is he gonna steak up? Is it gonna be a shot of
him snapping a neck or so.No, he's gonna he's gonna steak up
behind and then they're gonna hug It'sthat's gonna be a real disappointing time.
Then for when the kids actually playAssassin's Creed. I was trying to hug
(01:28:27):
him, that's why is he playing? Do I know this game from my
childhood? Oh? This is thatmister man thing? Mister men like,
what's the actual series called? MisterHappy, little miss Sunshine, mister Noisy,
mister Messi. Okay, mister misterMessi is the bad assassin? Oops?
(01:28:47):
Is this? His intestines are allover the floor. I did it.
I did a bad Oops. Herecomes assassinates like this, but gallants
assassinates like this. Here comes misterViscera. Oh, all out of his
wounds. Yeah, yeah, thisis where we live in now. There's
(01:29:10):
nothing sacred, kids about the overarchingconspiracies that run all our lives. Eventually,
that's right, it's never too longtoo young to get the illuminati involved
in it. Maybe they they're notgonna call it Assassin's Creed. They go,
mister, I'm just gonna call itlike mister Ezzio. Mister Etzio went
to the Butio stabbed a motherfucker.Mister Etzio shadowed his target. Oh,
(01:29:38):
don't get caught, mister Etzio.Client, mister Etzio. Mister Etzio hides
in the shadows where he can't beseen. Mister Etzio lightly blends, damps
the crowds. Yeah, mister Etzio. Oops, mister Etzio pushed an only
off the jump. Mister Etzio missedthe hay ball. Oops, mister Etzio.
(01:29:59):
That's weird. All right, Iguess I gotta learn French. Uh
anything else, Alex, That's allI got. Yeah, that's a good
one. That's all I got to. Let's take a break. We'll come
back with some emails. Hey,stick around. Oo, we get let's
get that music up there. Allright, stick around, We'll be right
(01:30:23):
back. Okay, we're back.Hello, we're back. We got some
emails. Jeff Baclar, you've pickedthe emails because people sent them to beastcast
(01:30:47):
at giant bomb dot com. Thatis beast cast that giant bomb dot com.
Backlar goes through all those emails forwardsthem over if we need to get
forwarded some emails. Did you everget your forward access it's still it's still
progress of a process. The bestpart is, I could, you know,
(01:31:10):
you could just be totally selfish aboutall these emails. So I'm gonna
take the first one from Brittany here. My husband and I love shopping at
Trader Joe's. I'm a huge suckerfor their seasonal items and love staples like
the crunchy cookie butter and scallion pancakes. If you had a couple of minutes
to run into a Trader Joe's andgrab some of your favorites, what would
(01:31:30):
it be? What would items?Would you recommend someone going to shop there
for the first time. So thebest part of this comes from because Trader
Joe's doesn't pay for any advertising. If you've kind of except for their word
of mouth, that's it. Yeah, and this is words and this is
(01:31:53):
a mouth. I feel like thecool thing I like about that story.
I think this is coming in becauseI have talked about Trader Joe's a lot,
and I think it's it's an amazingthing that that store does because they
have tons of shit that you thatthat you never thought anyone should make.
(01:32:13):
Like there's just these like wild combinationsgreat things. Trader Joe's have jeff uh,
they just do like so there isthis cookie butter that they sell where
you're just like, oh, what'sgood? What is that? And it's
and it's not what you think itis and not again, like I don't
know if this is the thing.I'm running into the store in a frantic
(01:32:35):
spree to just like grab and getout of there. Although I do love
their they have like a stri rachilike barbecue thing going on there that I'm
like that too, and like youknow that that's sort of where I'm coming
from. But without a doubt thething that I that I go to they
(01:32:57):
do have this like see this, like I guess it's like a Japanese sort
of seasoning with like a bunch ofroasted sesame and seaweed flakes, and I
know you can get that at otherdelicacy stores, like let me get that,
And I'm kind of that and likeeverything everything bagel seasoning, I feel
like they might have started that.I don't know, No, I don't
(01:33:17):
like they invented the everything bagel, but but they I think they were the
first ones to be like, let'sjust wipe all this stuff in a bottle.
Let's put that into a bottle.Oh you never heard of that.
No, is that's just what's leftover in your rapper after you get the
bagel. You just they just dumpthat into the bottle and they just like
funnel that up and just like pourit in there. You know, they're
hanging out outside but the dumpster behindthee and you're just getting all the fucking
(01:33:41):
leavings. They're just wiping the tablesoff. Yeah, you gotta throw that
out. No, no, no, no, no, Trader Joe Joe
Day will collect. They will payyou good money for that. Joe did
not get rich by throwing out sesameseed's okay, Joe him here, you
gotta throw that away. I'll tradeyou for I will trade you you this.
I don't know when Joe got startedtrading, but trade this whole thing
(01:34:03):
with just the paper clip but thechain. Joe went had a paper clip
and he went to his friend VickTrader Vix, and he said, uh,
hey's out of business. Oh that'sa shame. Trader Vix is like,
I'll go, I'll trade you fora bottle of wine. And the
Trader show said, I'll trade youfor an unbranded thing of peanut butter and
(01:34:26):
the you know, yeah, sobut are you do you go there a
lot or nonny? I do know? Yeah, oh, Alex, I
want to hear from you then,Bud. Yeah, I used to go
to the One of the Queens, but it's too small, and especially during
pandemic times, it's a little toofraught in there. So I've been going
to one Lie Island recently, andthat's that's been doing me a little bit
better. If I had to,like just run in grab a couple of
(01:34:49):
things. I'm very partial to that. Her dried seaweed snacks the same.
Can't can't get enough of that shipI got boxes that. Yeah, it's
love it. I low calorie loveit. I I like their peanut butter
cups, the ones they got inthe plastic tubs. I'm not too good
(01:35:10):
to admit that. I just Icould. I could swallow an entire container
of those whole if I had. It's a heartbeat. They've got those like
Mochi boxes, give me that worse. It used to be better. We
went we went to a Trader Joe'sand got mochi the other day, but
they were out. Vanilla and chocolateones are good. Oh no, vanilla
and strawberry. Rather, I'm like, you're still good. They just they
(01:35:32):
used to be better and now theyhave like this thing where sometimes they have
like air bubbles in them, whichI don't like. Oh fuck that.
Yeah. I like the little conesthey have. They're like this big.
It's like a full ice cream coneand the pot and like a finger's length
long. You could have like elevenof those and still feel also just an
assortment of of nuts and dried fruit. You know, that's the good Ship
(01:35:54):
Joe's specialty. Oh all right, what's the next back? They all right,
let's go. Let's have Alex takethis one from Alex about button mashing.
Okay, first of all, there'sonly one Alex, everyone else right,
And second of all, there's onlyone button mash Alex Keaton high cast
of Beast. What what's your favoritebutton mashing technique? Is it alternating fingers,
(01:36:16):
index finger tapping or mechanically assisted?Personally, I feel like I can
get a few bpm more by tensingthe muscles in my forearm and sort of
trembling my muscle, my hand muscles. It sounds crazy. I hope at
least one of you gets it.Okay, so I'm thinking, like it's
sort of like a just know whatthey're doing. Yeah, it's that it's
that real stiff it's that real stiffforearm thing where it's just like, yeah,
(01:36:40):
it's sort of like it's similar towhen you do with your legs if
you want to get really fast doublebass technique. I think, oh,
is that really what you do withyour legs? To me, you kind
of you kind of well, sowhat I do is I kind of move
my foot back and forth side toside a little bit. Will also kind
of just you don't want to tensethe muscle too much. You actually want
it as relaxed as possible. Butthere is a certain amount of just kind
(01:37:00):
of like just kind of rocking backand tremble, Yeah, kind of a
tremble. They did leave out theslide back and forth technique, which is
a that's a dangerous one. That'sa blister. That's a blister waiting to
happen. That's mine's a trembles thetrouble. Yeah. Yeah. If I
if I really need to get thatbusiness going, I switch to inde index
(01:37:23):
finger, put the controller down ona leg or something, and then I'm
just I'm just doing it. Ifit's a double button, I'm doing the
one too, like this. Ifit's a single button, it's just I'm
just I'm just kind of doing this. I canby That's that's dangerous, that's
dangerous. If it's a modern game, I'm turning it off and putting the
just turn it off and hold thebutton, because yes, because everything has
(01:37:45):
that option now well hopefully. Butlike I I'm tired of I'm tired kind
of tired of that. And I'veI've done my share, I've put in
my time of mashing buttons. I'mready to just hold them. I don't
need to do this. That's nextbutton. That's why I bought those super
quick carcade buttons, because I don'twant to get you know, the weird
(01:38:05):
you know whatever injury that Yeah, okay, yeah, let's move along this
one. Let's go to uh,let's go to Vinny for this. Because
you were vexed about the tomato sauceversus ketch up situation. A lot of
people from Australia and New Zealand wrotein about this specifically, so thanks to
(01:38:27):
everyone who wrote in about this. But take this one from Aaron. Okay,
Aaron says here just a click.Nope, just a quick clarification slash
correction on the tomato sauce email froma fellow Kiwi. I can say that
right, but I don't think that'sbad. On last week's show, you
would use tomato sauce the same asyou would use ketchup. The only difference
(01:38:51):
between the two is that tomato sauceis usually slightly sweeter than ketchup. How's
that possible? And ketchup is usuallytangier slash tartar then tomato sauce, I
hear the food police in the background. In New Zealand, what you what
you? In the state's called tomatosauce is sold as a pasta sauces in
(01:39:15):
our supermarkets. The English language shoreis fun that comes from arrand in New
Zealand. So tomato sauce pasta sauceI buy that. I don't know about
the sweeter than ketchup, though somehave a lot of adding a sauce.
They're adding a sauce. Do youthink they put another sauce in there,
sauce? Well, they have, they have. They have a tomato sauce
(01:39:35):
and a ketchup and then a pastasauce. This says, uh, in
New Zealand, what you in theStates called tomato sauce is sold as pasta
sauce in our supermarkets. So they'resaying, okay, yeah, but no,
but it does seem they do havetwo kinds of ketchups I don't know
and ketchup Yeah, So we needokay, do we need to go back
(01:39:59):
to that other email because I feellike there was a tomato sauce. The
whole thing that kicked this off wasa tomato sauce on like French rized problem
that would really was bugging me.So if if Aaron is saying tomato sauce
is what you'd call pasta sauce,we're back to square fucking one here of
you. The more I think about, the more I think you're right.
Yeah, I think we have donein the circle of what are we doing?
(01:40:25):
Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe we shouldjust move on. Yeah, let's
just move on about this. We'redone with the ketchup. We're done with
You can keep those to yourselves.Sometimes things don't work out here on the
podcast. Just gonna have to livewith that and we'll move on. Also,
got I got a great update foryou. I don't know whoever hacked
my fridge, but we have agrand experiment happening in what can you keep
out of a fridge? And forhow long? That is happening up in
(01:40:47):
my experimental lab aka my kitchen rightnow. It turns out most stuff wants
to be refrigerated or a you willgo sick or be it'll smell horrible.
My fridge that is now broken,it's actually warmer on the inside than it
is on the outside. It hasgone to trapping the colds and trapping the
heat. So that's right. Turnsout those things are insulated, so in
(01:41:11):
the hot airs in there, goodhosts in there, but the food doesn't
want to be in there. Stopopening it. No, we I emptied
it and unplugged it. Eventually. When they I have little thermometer things,
I recommend everybody get one. Actually, these little like things you could just
sit in there, thermometer. They'rewireless, you know, wireless the puck
in the batteries or their analog. If you just got a fucking thermometer,
uh, and then you can see. But this is nice because it tracts
(01:41:33):
the temperature with the highs and lowsand fun tip if you're going away on
vacation. Remember that. Remember goingaway on vacation. If you ever go
away in vacation, it's a funthing to uh having the fridge because you
can see if your power ever wentout, well you're away, if your
food is going to be spoiled.Interesting, Yeah, that's good. Anyway,
that's fun. Hot fridge. Gross? What's next? Yeah, this
(01:41:54):
is just a real quick one fromJoe. I just want to say this
out loud because I when I readit, was like, want, are
worms bugs? Obviously? Not?Right? A surprising large number of my
peers disagree. No, worms arenot bugs. Worms are not bugs?
Are they? Oh? Wait? Are they in the insect world? I
don't wait? Are we talking scientifically? Are we talking like colloquially? Like
(01:42:15):
hey, when you say like, hey, I got some bugs, and
like it's a worm here, you'regonna be like maybe maybe I am just
I would I think colloquially they're not. Scientifically, maybe they are. No,
I don't know, I would sayscientifically they're not. They're probably something
like milo petus or something. They'reprobably in some other you know, I
thought I thought this was obvious.Maybe now I'm second guessing. Myself.
(01:42:36):
Wait, so what would a wormbe? Then? A worm, like,
I think it's its own thing. It's just a kind of invertebrate.
I would be like, hey,I'm going bug hunt. Oh yeah,
you know, Okay, it dependson the day. They don't have legs.
They're more like a snake than they'relike a bug. I guess I
(01:42:59):
would. I would have called abug listen to the dirt it's outside in
the yard. Oh, you're fuckingcrazy, it's not a bug. If
if you said, like a moleeats bugs and you're like, noodya's worms,
it might be like, yeah,he's a bug. Yeah. You
know what if if before this waseven brought up, if he would just
asked me, is a worm abug? I would have said, well,
yeah, isn't it? And nowthat I'm thinking about it, it's
like, I guess it's not.I guess it's so not a bug,
(01:43:21):
even casually like you're trying to uhpositive before it's not. I would I
would have I'm with Alex before this, if you had my initial reaction to
this or worms are absolutely bugs. Now I flipped the whole thing right now.
See, but this is why weasked the tough hitting questions. Whatever,
We'll leave it open. I justwant to throw it out there if
(01:43:41):
we can move on. Is aworm and insect? No? No,
it's not legs? What? Yeah? What insects? Okay? Is a
millipede a bug? Yeah? Justbecause it wriggles doesn't make it a worm.
But it isn't a worm, justlike a millipede with no legs.
No a minute, Oh, youare really reducing the creation. I think
(01:44:10):
elz Elze scrolled by two fast analyids. That's what I was looking for.
That's the waiting for somebody to dropthe old. There's also no way to
know. We've never done the research. We've never figured it out. Nobody
doctor, I don't fucking know everybodyever know? Gross all the side.
Ah, you weren't saying millipedes don'thave legs, right, because I believe
(01:44:38):
he said they were of legs, which is also wrong. I'm an entomologist,
not an etymologist. Come on,yeah, that's somebody bless you that
all right? The this is aweird one. How about how about you
have this Alex from Drew here uhbeast cast crew with all the Kingdom hearts
(01:44:58):
Michigans. How you spell it,I guess, Okay, going up on
the site, I wondered if youwere aware that Haley Joel Osmond, voice
of Sora in Kingdom Hearts owes hisacting career in part to former Nintendo president
Reggie Fizza May. No, Ididn't know that. Okay, Osmond's first
professional acting job was in a PizzaHut commercial for the Bigfoot Pizza. Pizza.
(01:45:21):
May was an executive at Pizza Hutat the time and was in charge
of marketing for the Bigfoot Pizza. So without a metric ton of zippers and
a twelve by twenty fourth slab ofpizza, we would not have the Sora
we have today. Thoughts. Imean, maybe he maybe he sends him
(01:45:41):
like a thank you bouquet every year, and it's just like, I'll never
forget. You're the guy who letme inevitably see dead people, and you're
saying that this Kingdom Hearts was hislaunching pad there. I mean, what
did the big Foot pizza look like? Remember? Remember the big Foot Pizza?
I don't really, but also Inever liked Pizza Hut, so I
(01:46:03):
never really paid attention. Wasn't itkind of like the Tombstone well right,
says almost two feet. There waslike there was like a there was a
period there where I don't know whathappened, but people wanted like sheets of
pizza, like just they wanted theywanted like options for wallpapers. And yeah,
(01:46:24):
there was a Pizza Huts like wegot you. It was pizza.
It was where people figured out thatyou can take a pizza too. You
can see same amount of dough. How far could you actually stretch it physically
and then sell it to somebody?I bet you they figured this out because
of like maybe the way their ovensin the chains were structured, like I
bet you Pizza Hut maybe has likean assembly line like Quiznos had, where
(01:46:46):
like pizza just slowly goes through likenine hundred degree heat oven and they were
like this could go on forever.Maybe it was an accent maybe because maybe
it got caught on there and thenlike Reggie came in and they were like,
ah shit, it sjammed again andRegie keeping stop the presses. Look
at this. Look at this unifualpizza. This is actually almost the size
(01:47:08):
of one of my feet. Let'scall it bio pizza for Reggie Reggie size.
This is delicious, Hailey, trythis. It is delicious Reggie.
Yeah, that was his voice. It is Reggie by Bad. This is
delicious, Reggie. You should go, you should go to Nintendo. Stop
(01:47:29):
it, Hailey, you're so fullof good idea. Seven metric tons of
this pizza with me? All right? What else you got, Vincent?
And take this one from Logan please? Wow. Logan submitted the first chapter
of his book. Thanks Logan. All right, here we go, I
know, but it's a quick Afterthe talk about the last Blockbuster, it
(01:47:53):
seemed Germaine to mention that I recentlymoved into a neighborhood that has an honest
to god video rental store right aroundthe corner. Browsing a large collection of
movies that only gets bigger over timeis pretty great, since just about everything
you can ask for this place has, and you're not left to the whims
of whatever streaming service you're paying forin a given month. It's not quite
(01:48:15):
a hole in the wall, butit does feel like stepping back into the
nineteen nineties, and that's an unexpectedlynice feeling. Being able to walk there
from my new place of residence iseven a better. My question, if
you can have just one type ofpreviously on the present store slash business within
walking distance from your home? Whatwould it be? Video rental, comic
(01:48:41):
shop, local hardware store. Ohthat's gonna be tough, heart of arcade,
toy shop, record store, etc. What would improve your life the
most if it was accessible just aroundthe corner and not in big box slash
franchise store form. Additionally, videostore reigns supreme for me, but I
also have the local hardware store. And even as someone who isn't particularly handy
(01:49:06):
or into repairing stuff myself, it'sbeen incredibly convenient to have a small shop
with local owners right around the corner, rather than needing to go to a
Lows or home depot and track stuffdown in those absurdly large stores. That
is a that is a dumb storeto go No, there's no, that
(01:49:27):
is a dumbass store to go tojust to like get one screw. I
think I have to go with thehardware store. Like it's just too like
it's practical. Yeah we have aswell. Yeah, I mean, but
but I guess this question. Ifound this question interesting because it's more I
think I was leaning more into likethe no longer necessary store, but me.
(01:49:50):
Yeah, maybe because hardware store stillyou obviously still need that. Well,
yeah, we have a local onehere, but then there's also a
home depot, like, you know, less than a mile in the other
direction. Uh we and I actuallyhave a local comics store in my neighborhood
too. There's yeah, there's anoutlet for midtown, but there's also a
local one here. Oh really theyhave like a Midtown Comics and queens it's
(01:50:12):
an outlet, but yes, okay, what's funny is there even in my
town? There is like a rollerrink too, which is also like a
bygone sort of thing. Damn, the comic skate is still there from my
hometown. The comic thing has hurta bit, though. There is a
comic store not too far from here. It's it's definitely a little bit of
a walk which apparently is owned bythe son of Jimmy the Greek really in
(01:50:43):
our town, which that's interesting, but he but he sells I think he
sells a lot of collectible stuff, like that's his market, and so like
I'm always a little afraid to goin there and be like, what's up,
Alex. There skates still there?Oh, the skating rink I went
to for like birthday parties when Iwas eleven, is still around. I
mean that's you know, places likethat are kind of still a thing.
(01:51:05):
Like bowling alleys refuse to really goaway too, you know, like they
refuse well now you know, yeah, yeah, there's something like as far
as use goes. Yeah, LikeI would love if there was a local
video store I could go to,but it's not that useful to me.
Like I I you know, Ihave a large movie collection. I can
get movies, you know, ButI would still go anyway, just because
(01:51:27):
I think that would be a neatnovelty and I would like to support something
like that. I think an arcadewould actually be the most beneficial to me,
because again, I'm not going togo buy a bunch of arcade cabinets
and and fucking pinball machines. Whowould do that? A lunatic, that's
who. Yeah, Eye's got theroom for that. And the thing is
if it's well maintained, like ifit's taking care if that stuff is taking
(01:51:48):
care of, like that is athing I would go to regularly. Yeah,
I might say I'm gonna kind ofdo like a combo place because this
would invent a place, yeah,like a like a I want to I
want a local game store. Iwant a local not a video game store
even board game store. I wanta local board game and comic store that
(01:52:11):
you board game store too. Yeah, and I kind of wish I had
a local board game store. There'sa lot of board game supplies. I
always need that. I feel badordering a lot of board games that I
would just like to you know, usually they have some board game nights and
stuff set there. It's one ofthe things I actually was like, gosh,
open a board game store in thistown, like and then I was
like, I don't want to runa board game store. I don't have
