From ancient Greece to the present day, good stories have been of great value to all civilizations. Stories rescue us from boredom, existential emptiness and the harshness of life; and even more so, good stories awaken our imagination. The Nutcracker is a worldwide Christmas Classic. It’s popularity stems; in part because the script by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann touches on the importance of fighting for your dreams and also because the music composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is nothing less than magical.
The Nutcracker captures the inner beauty and innocence of a child. It is more than a fairy tale, a stage performance or a musical composition. It is a story that transforms hearts through its message of love, kindness, courage and companionship.
Counselor Drosselmeier visits the Stahlbaum house. He brings gifts to his godchildren Maria and Fritz. There is a toy that catches Maria's attention: a wooden nutcracker. The toy comes to life at night to prepare for battle with the evil Seven-Headed Mouse.
Fritz toys join the Nutcracker to fight against the Seven-Headed Mouse, who is winning the battle. However, Maria intervenes and falls wounded. The family worries about Maria's health, and they do not believe the Nutcracker and the Mouse King story.
Maria is feeling better. Godfather Drosselmeier visits the children. He tells them the story of Princess Pirlipat and the Krakatuk nut. Young Drosselmeier undoes the enchantment of Princess Pirlipat, and Lady Ratilda condemns him to live as a nutcracker. Only the love of a true friend can rescue him.
The King of the seven heads appears to Maria and asks for her candy in exchange for leaving the Nutcracker alone. She agrees. The Nutcracker asks Maria for a sword.
The Nutcracker invites Maria to take a walk through magical places. He takes her to Gingerbread Ville and Confection Ville, where he is the King. She thanks him for his friendship.
