(00:08):
Welcome to this watch LIFE. Hi, I'm Lydia Winters.
And I'm Fubui and we got a lot of great questions.
We did. We did.
Let's start with Jordonia. Who asks, Cliche?
But what's one thing you wish you knew about watch Collecting
before you started? I don't think that's that,
Cliche. Actually, it's a good question.
(00:31):
It's a difficult question. Yes, I think for me it's that
it's about the journey, not the destination.
Now that's cliche. I see your cliche.
And I raise you. More cliche.
That's even more Yes, we're justgoing down a cliche rabbit.
(00:56):
Hole yes, but I will but OK, butit is true.
I think that especially what I didn't know is just like how for
me, I just started collecting like just like, you know?
I mean, that's. What happened?
Chording watches. Chording.
Oh yes, and just buying as many watches and I think I wish I
(01:20):
was. I wish I was slower.
Yes. Like, I wish I knew that it's
not a race. That's what I mean about it's,
it's the journey, not the destination.
It's like it feels like a race at the beginning.
Like, let's get them all. I'm not just at the beginning, I
think sometimes I get into that mood as well.
That's where I get impatient, asthough I need to achieve certain
(01:45):
goals within a time period. And then I also have time
periods where I get too many watches all at once and I'm
like, I can't properly enjoy these.
So I, I, I, I'll agree with that.
And so for me, I think what I, what I definitely didn't know in
(02:07):
the beginning was that there I, there is no such thing for me as
an actual like grail or like some sort of end game or plan.
There's no like final form of mycollection.
So wait, there's nothing I'm trying to achieve.
So would you say it's about the journey, not the destination?
(02:29):
Because what you just said no. I feel like mine is slightly
different because I'm saying there is no destination.
That's what I'm saying. OK.
There's no. Destiny, you're saying for me?
It's not. The journey.
There is no destination, no. So I really in the beginning
(02:50):
believed there would be a time. At.
Which my collection would be complete and now I know that to
not be true. That is not who I am.
There are people I know one watch, people I know three
watch. But you know, like I know people
who have kind of achieved what they wanted to achieve and then
(03:13):
they're not looking at new watches or they look at new
watches, but just out of curiosity and interest, but not
out of. Like I cannot identify.
Planning and desire and and likewanting more watches, OK, but
for me that's not who I am. So I'm constantly looking and
being interested in new things and wanting to try out different
(03:36):
things. Yes.
And I know that regardless of price, regardless of rarity or
mythical status, there's no watch that would end my
collection or end my desire to have new watches.
Yeah, it's about the journey. This is not at all what I'm
(03:59):
saying. Is actually not what I'm saying.
I agree with your version. In mine is.
Different journey, OK. Watch Girl Life says for both of
you, most worn watch and best watch purchase this year.
(04:21):
And that ties into Nomoshino, who asked what's your favorite
watch of 2024 so far? And then he gets a little
leading because he asks you specifically a locomotive.
Oh. OK, so first of all, watch girl
life Trish, congratulations. She just picked up an Omega
(04:41):
Snoopy. Yes.
Man, I did not understand that watch until I saw it in person.
It's so beautiful, that breathtaking.
So Congrats, Trish, I wonder. Adorable and fun as well.
But she's she's got some really cool new watches.
So I'm very curious about this question back at her.
So I'm going to ask her because she also got the Omega, the
(05:03):
first Omega in space, which is such a good look.
OK. And no Moshino.
I actually got to show him my creator locomotive and he was
like liked it so much. And OK, there's something about
like when you show but a watch to someone and they really love
it, you're just like, I'm so smart for buying this watch.
(05:25):
That's how I feel if it's someone.
And and so with no Moshino, withno Moshino, I'm like, OK, he's
so cool and he thinks the watch I picked is cool.
And it, yeah, it makes it, yeah,it validates it.
And it just makes me so happy. OK.
So that so I would say OK my most worn watch.
Yeah, let's go with most worn first.
(05:46):
Was my 30 A3 millimetre Royal Oak that I got earlier this year
and the only reason that's my most worn is because I just had
it a little longer before I got the locomotive.
I think the locomotive will round off the year as my most
worn. Yeah, I think so.
(06:06):
Too. Well, actually in the summer I
wore my no most super sardine a lot.
So me. You forget I.
Worked a lot. In the summer.
So it's probably a toss up between the Credor and the Royal
Oak right now, and I think the best watch purchase for me would
be the Credor locomotive. Oh, that just best.
(06:29):
Done. Yeah, because it's, I mean, it's
super limited. I'm going to do an episode about
it. A new new watch alert.
Yeah, that's kind of new. New Watch alert episode next
week where I'll talk more about it.
But yeah, so I won't talk about it now, OK.
OK, so you don't have to go to. OK, what about you SO.
All right, I I saw the question and I was like why?
(06:54):
Why? Because why?
This year I decided to stop tracking.
I used to be able to tell you exactly what my most worn watch
was because I tracked my exact wear.
Number of wears used to. Be like the exact I.
Would just like boom boom. If I wore a watch I tracked it.
(07:14):
If I wore 2 watches in a day I tracked them both.
So it wasn't like AI didn't needto wear a watch for an entire
day to track it. But at least told me how many
days a watch was worn, but although not how long each day
it was worn that that feels likea level that I didn't need to go
to. How many hours has a watch been
worn? So let's take a moment here.
(07:35):
And just like how are you processing that the loss of your
data data and your tracking? Well, it didn't seem to be a
problem until someone then askedme a question like which one was
the most worn? And I'm like, I could have just
had the data right here and justgone boop boop boop.
Oh here it is, my most worn. But now I had to instead think
(07:58):
hum. Do you feel this has caused a
regression in your progress? Well OK, so the reason I stopped
tracking OK was because I felt that tracking was changing my
watch wearing behavior. Yeah, I actually we had talked
about at one point if I just secretly tracked, I did not do
that. OK, that's no SO.
You're not just going to pop outand say I've been tracking.
(08:20):
Nah, OK. It would like I regret it
because right now it would be cool if I was like beep boop
beep. Boop.
Yeah, if it if I had this big regret moment and then you're
like, guess what I've been tracking all along.
But it turns out I don't. Like, that's a lot of stuff.
Also, that's a lot of work for one tiny joke.
Yes, yeah. So I did not.
(08:42):
But so I felt that tracking my wearing was changing my behavior
because I would look at watches I hadn't worn for a while or
hadn't worn much, and I would wear them because I hadn't worn
them, not because I wanted to wear them.
OK. Yeah.
So that means that I was wearingwatches that I wouldn't have
(09:06):
worn if it wasn't for the fact that I hadn't worn them.
I'm going to go back to my calming voice.
That's a lot to unpack, yeah. So I like stop tracking and I
did notice then now I just pick up the watch that I think I want
to wear. OK.
But much more often there are times where I'm like, oh, I
haven't worn that watch for a while and I'll go and grab a
(09:27):
watch and and and. Wear.
That's pretty nice. But it so.
But in moments like these where someone's just asking me a
simple question like which watchdid you wear the most?
Then I want the data so I can answer definitively.
This is the watch I wore the most, but I don't have that data
right now. So I'm going to guess, and my
guess based on just kind of thinking about it, is that for
(09:51):
the first half of the year, it was the Grand Seiko Taisetsu.
Yes, I think so. I, I, I feel pretty confident
that first half year, I think. That's probably your most worn
for the whole year. Yeah, for the first half of the
year, yes. For since July though, my most
(10:12):
worn watch has been my Otsuka Low tech #6.
Yeah, but they asked about your most worn watch for the year.
Yeah, but the year is not over yet.
No, I know so. The year ends, I believe that
Otsuka Low Tech will take the win for most watch, but I won't
have the data to back that up soit's just a guess.
OK, so now moving on to the nextquestion.
(10:33):
OK, which was the best? OK, was Trish's version of it
and no more. She knows version was because
but best I don't even know how to.
Well, no more. She knows it.
No more, she knows it. Favorite.
That's not that much. Easier.
OK, thank you. These questions have now broken.
Boo. I'm gonna I'm just gonna go with
(10:54):
my most award-winning watch, which is the Otsuka low tech
number six. Which one?
The GP PHG Challenge prize and I'm so proud of it.
For doing so well, I am too. I I actually I still feel very.
You got to wear it in the room while it won the.
Award. Actually, something really cool
happened. OK, so you know, I told the
(11:17):
story about, you know, screeching.
Yeah, screeching. And just being so excited.
And then someone sent me a message and he was like, hey, I
was sitting behind you and he sent me a photo of me being like
you again. I really did look like I won,
but it was so cool. It was so cool.
(11:37):
He's like, I thought this was you and sent me the photo and I
was so happy about it so. You have a photo of yourself
being happy wearing the watch that was winning and the moment
the photo was taken. Yes, that's pretty.
Yeah, I was. I was posing with the watch
because I was someone. Else was taking it does.
Everyone want to see it? Who wants to check out this
(11:58):
lunch? I was very excited.
Yeah. So that's pretty awesome.
And it makes me, you know, watchWorld being small and yeah, it's
just cool. Yeah, OK, watch?
Rolling asks Is owning Rolex a necessary step for a watch
enthusiast and I I feel like he knows the answer to this
question. This is a leading question.
(12:18):
OK, so I'm going to say it is not a necessary step, but it's a
likely step. Oh interesting.
For a watch enthusiast, I think statistically probably not true.
But even with the number of Rolex watches that are out
there, I think there are more people who are into watches than
can afford a Rolex. Yeah, of course.
(12:39):
So then it's probably not likelythat most watch enthusiasts will
own a Rolex, just statistically speaking.
I wasn't basing it on statistics, so.
Well, OK, OK. I meant more of like it might be
something you want because of the the standing that Rolex has,
(13:03):
like it or not, and I mean, we've talked, talked about it
before. They are the most powerful brand
watch brand. And they make a lot of watches.
They make a lot of watches, but they also they, they're produce
trends. They, you know, like the
heritage. It's the most well known, you
know, like for a lot of things. So.
(13:25):
What I mean is I don't think it's that you have to, but I do
think as watch enthusiasts, you become you love it, then you
become disillusioned, then you probably love it again.
Then you you know, then you're like hype, hype, hype and then
you're like, oh, but it's reallywell made.
Oh, you know, so I think it's just something maybe it's more
(13:46):
that like is Rolex something youcome back to probably as a watch
enthusiast. That's my.
Feeling and I so where I agree with.
Whether you own one or not doesn't matter.
Yeah, the sentiment of what you said.
I think I said statistics. I think I added AD so you know I
don't like. Statistically, yes.
(14:07):
So I in, in the spirit of what you said, I, so I have seen so
many people who are watch enthusiasts over the, you know,
even just the past 3-4 years being on Instagram who were anti
Rolex and then later owned Rolex.
And I've also seen people who owned Rolex and then became anti
(14:28):
Rolex, right? Like, but in the spirit of what
you were saying, it becomes a part of people's journey.
But having said all that, I think there is absolutely
nothing at all that isn't necessary to be a watch
enthusiast, because that's just like made-up rules, except
(14:48):
perhaps that you need to be enthusiastic about watches.
Yes, you don't even have to own a watch.
I don't think so not to be. A fan of them or excited about
that? Sports enthusiasts don't all
play sports I know a lot about. Sports fall.
Always. But it's the truth.
Like there are many people who consider themselves sports ball
(15:09):
enthusiasts. They watch it.
They know the teams and the players.
It's like I know all these. Things you're like they know
the. Numbers they wear on their back,
OK. Please stop anyway.
So they know all of this stuff. Yeah, but they don't play the
sport, and that doesn't make them less of an enthusiast.
(15:31):
So does it make you less of a collector?
Probably if you don't. Have any?
Yeah, but you could. Be an enthusiast is you can just
like them from afar and that andyou can still be an enthusiast.
And we should not create rules about what enthusiasm has to
mean. Honestly, that is ideal.
(15:53):
Wait, what's I? Could just have enthusiasm for a
watch and you don't buy any. I mean, that is, that's the
dream actually. You could love them and
interested in them and then you just don't get started that.
Wasn't our dream to be a one watch person, Now you want your
dream is to be a non watch? Person feel like once you get
(16:15):
one. That's the slipper.
I basically I'm always telling people I'm like, oh, I love
watches, don't get into it. I think that's kind of any
hobby. Yeah, I.
Think. So I love this thing.
Please don't follow me. Into it.
