(00:08):
Welcome to this watch LIFE. Hi, I'm Lydia Winters.
And I'm Boo booey. And this first question sounds a
little pointed at me. Maybe it could have been you
too. No, I think it's you, yeah.
OK, case back in time ass. Have you ever heard a seal
before? OK, the other day you made the
seal sound when we were talking about the cool, you know, over

(00:31):
the North Pole journey. Yeah, yeah, the polar route.
Yeah, which I actually have an update on.
I saw the other day on Instagramsomeone posted Finnair still
does that, not as fun. It just says like I flew over
the North Pole, which is a little bit like.
Finnair still doesn't now. Yeah, it was a current one.
Oh wait, have we ever done that flight?

(00:51):
Can we ask for a certificate? Yeah, but we haven't done the
flight with Finnair. Oh yeah.
But it was such a it was a very boring execution.
Compared to a seal. With a polar rar His Majesty to.
Answer the question, have I everheard a seal before?
I'm sure I've heard them in documentaries because we've

(01:12):
watched many documentaries aboutanimals and so yes, I have heard
a seals recording before in reallife.
Maybe as a kid at a zoo. Yeah, or in California there's
Seals. Yeah, Oh.
Yeah, you would have seen a lot.Oh, sea.
Sea lions. Sea lions.
Those are sea lions. I don't.
I don't think sea lions are seals.

(01:33):
Oh no, this. Is just showing my lack of
knowledge about. But OK.
But one thing that did blow my mind when we when we got
together is, you know, in to me,there's like an animal sound, a
dog goes bark, bark and a, you know, like the kid, like a
little kid. And you do like, you know, old

(01:54):
McDonald and it's like all the sounds and then you were telling
me and then I realized which is so, you know, English centric,
obviously. Oh, all the sounds are the sick.
Maybe even Americans. American centric.
Because in the UK there might bedifferent sounds for different.
Then it blew my mind as you, youtold me like the different
sounds of the animals. So I was like, oh, yeah, a dog.
Woof, woof, bark, bark. And you were like, yeah, but in

(02:16):
Vietnam. They they do go go, yeah, yeah.
So it's, it's different sounds in different languages because
it's it's, it's like a human representation.
Of it's. A human phonetic representation
of the sound. Yeah, and a Baba here and a Baba
like. But I I thought that was so

(02:36):
cool. So then maybe your seal is just
the Vietnamese seal. Yeah.
Sound. I don't, I don't know what the
Vietnamese seal sound. Is no, yeah.
I don't know all the animal sounds in Vietnamese, but I do
know they're for dogs. It's go go, Yeah.
Or at least it was when I learned Vietnamese.
Yeah, and frogs. Too.
Language changes something different I.

(02:56):
Don't. Yeah, I don't remember the frog
one. OK, Bin 63 asks.
What's your favorite colour on the dial?
Oh, OK, you go first 'cause you know I'm like.
Favorites. Favorites is OK.
Favorite is the word that alwaystrips me up is that I don't
think I'm a very consistent person when it comes to the

(03:18):
things that I well, it's not. I don't think I I change up my
hobbies, I change up what I'm interested in so often That
favorite I think is a fleeting. Feeling but favorite is a
current favorite doesn't mean they're not like forever
favorite. This is your you are now only

(03:41):
able to get this color for the rest of your life.
OK. So if I look at the previous few
years, the color that I have said that I am most drawn to,
I'll use that as favorite has been salmon.
I've been really into salmon dials.
That's true. However, I haven't purchased a
bunch of salmon dials. In.

(04:01):
Fact, I only own 1 salmon dial and you bought it for me as a
gift. You didn't know I wanted that
watch. But my Corono Toki Yeah is like
a salmon type colour. It's not.
It's actually, yeah. You are very much drawn to
salmon, but you don't buy them. No.
And I but I, but it's also I think the watches that I buy

(04:26):
still have been more sporty and salmon is a color that is
typically not on sports watchers.
So there may be something there. But if I look at the watches
that I have bought recently, like let's say this year,
strangely, brushed steel has been quite common.
The King Seiko and both Otsuka low tax have been brushed steel.

(04:51):
Wow. What a weird favorite color.
That's a weird favorite color, right?
So there's a lot of that. And then my new Arkin is
burgundy and then my new Corona that has not arrived yet but
I've ordered it is blue like a bright.
Blue, Yeah. And the Grand Seca, which was
also this year, is Gray, so yeah.
And the the Grand Seca that I really like for you, yeah, is

(05:13):
like a red orange. Yes, yes, the limited edition.
What 1 is that? I don't remember the name of.
It right? Oh, I don't either, that's why I
asked. It's a series of letters and
numbers. Yeah, it's the grand sacred one
there. But it's a European limited
edition, and it has this red dial.
It's a beautifully sized case, 36.5 millimeter, 44 GS case.

(05:35):
And the dial is meant to represent like carp scales.
Yeah, so like koi fish. And it is.
Would. You really it?
Really does because I think it sometimes looks red and
sometimes looks orangey. It reminds me of my Coral O, So
that's why for me, I like it on you so much, because.

(05:58):
Yeah. And that 44 GS case, it's just
so cool. Yeah, so maybe red is your new
color of the. If I if I go buy that.
Yeah, then then you're like my new favorite.
Well, 'cause then my Arcan will have dragon scales in burgundy,
and then my Grand Seiko will have fish scales in red orange.
Oh, he's. In his scale era, scale fish.

(06:19):
I only buy scale dials like regardless of the reddish scale
dials. That's my current favorite.
That that's, you know what? You found something more more
extreme than brushed steel. Yeah.
That is more extreme than brushed steel, So, but I, I
think it's easy to say what my what least draws me in.

(06:41):
That is, I I don't know if I would say it's my least
favorite, but what least draws me in is black dials.
Yeah. And I think it's only because
they're so ubiquitous. So to me, they don't say as
much. Yeah.
And I you know my Rolex GMT Master 2BL RO Pepsi that that

(07:03):
has a black dial. Yeah, but I mean it has a a blue
and red bezel. So you know it has a black dial.
Yeah, I agree. But it's still like, that one's
a bit of a cheater. Yeah, to me, because when you
have something. I don't have.
Do I own any? When you have a watch.
Steel watches. Yeah, when you have a watch that
has a black dial, yeah, what youthink of is not a watch with a

(07:27):
bezel that's red. And blue so.
Yeah, so I, I kind of, you know,so to me it is, I always take it
in as the whole watch. So it's like, I wouldn't say
that is a, is a Black Watch. You know, in my mind it's true.
OK, so now it's your turn. What is your favorite color on
the dial? OK.
So I mean, this year was one of my least colorful years in

(07:52):
watch. Purchases quite a long time.
Although OK, so my 3 watches that I purchased this year, the
Royal Oak 33 millimetre and that's like a black black dial
and then the Creedor locomotive is.
Black. Black.
Brown, it has color, Yeah, it has colors in it.
And then my Super Sardine Nomos and that one is blue, Gray,

(08:17):
white or like man and and red around the outside, but mainly
blue. I don't think blue is my
favorite. Blue goes really nautical for
me. I immediate like I have a hard
time when it's a blue dial. I immediately feel more
nautical. It's why.
Should be at sea, yeah. Like which I appreciate, Yes,

(08:39):
like I should be out at sea, which I currently AM.
Yes. And you listen to this episode.
You know what I thought about. We recently talked about that.
We were recording from the past.Yeah.
People while they're listening, you'll be on a boat.
Yeah. But also sometimes people listen
later. Oh, and then so I won't always
be on a boat either. Be on a boat or you will have

(09:01):
been on a boat. OK, well.
You could do one of those three-year cruises.
No, it makes it much more like. It was hard enough to get me on
a one week cruise. I didn't mention this but my my
sister has asked me every week since.
So like my parents bought their tickets.
Months ago. No, like back in March when my

(09:22):
dad was sick, and then Mindy bought tickets for the family
immediately as a surprise. And I would say consistently,
every week to two weeks, she would just send me a message.
And it would be like, Are you sure?
Feeling like a cruise? No, it wasn't even like, Are you
sure? I was like, oh, I bet it would
be sunny in the Caribbean, you know, just like nonstop.

(09:44):
That's a that's a good bet. Yeah, nonstop.
Wouldn't bet against. Nonstop.
And she just kept going and, andgot me to say, yeah, OK, I'll
come on this cruise. OK, so wait, you did you mention
your favorite color? No.
See the thing about favorite. I don't.
Even no, I mean. You like saying what's your?

(10:04):
Favorite. Yeah, but I The only reason I
have a hard time is because actually when you look at my.
Actually. Actually.
Well actually when you look at my collection, there are very
many colors. Most are not the same.
Yeah, you don't have like a grouping of one color.

(10:24):
No, Yeah. So that's a little hard.
You own a lot more black dials than.
Me, I do own a lot more black dial.
But I wouldn't say that's your favorite.
Color it's definitely not my favorite color, but I own like
well, you own if we say you own none no at.
Least one. I own a lot.
Yeah, you own quite a few. OK, get take a guess, what's
your favorite color? When you think about like if

(10:46):
right now you could just go choose a colorful watch from
your collection, what would be the most exciting?
Or if you could buy a new color watch.
Well, The thing is, so I would say my favorite like seasonally
right now is I'm more in the coral red.
That's why I think I'm very intoyou get yeah, that like yeah, so
you know, much like the the 5th sea of strap, yes, strap picking

(11:11):
seasons, seasons. Also, I think about in terms of
color, like my the color watch Ipick goes very much with what
the season is. Well, this next question ties
directly into that because Ken Arkinwatchco asked would you
trade in all your O PS for the opportunity to pick any color

(11:36):
for your own piece? Unique OP.
So that means Rolex is making this right?
You could only own this one OP for the rest of your life.
Like you could own other watches, but it's the only OP
you could own. And the money difference, you
know, from the fact that you youyou you've you're trading in for
however many O PS you own would be transferred back to you.

(11:58):
So it's not like you're you haveto pay all your O PS to get this
one OP. No 'cause that would be harder
then I would be like OK but. Your piece unique OP colour.
So this is now we're going back to favorite colour.
That's why I put these in in a row.

(12:19):
OK. So my immediate reaction was,
yes, obviously I do it because Imean, yeah, which I think if
this ever happened practically Iwould do it because a piece
unique from Rolex. Even if because I for me the
turquoise is the best of the OP colors.
Yeah, when I try them on, the turquoise is just the best.

(12:41):
So in my mind, it's hard to beatthe turquoise.
Yeah, because it. Yeah, the turquoise is the color
that surprised me the most. I've talked about it a long time
ago, but when I saw it in the photos, I was like, meh, it's
fine. And then when I saw it in real
life, I was like, no, it's so much more like Robin's egg.
It's so much more like has more blue.

(13:03):
It's definitely not Tiffany. It is not Tiffany colored
because that's much more turquoise and this actually has
that blue. This is.
Just called. Even though it's called
turquoise. Yeah, OK, you know, but so I.
So you would do it because because actually the question is
not what color. The question is, would you do

(13:25):
it? Yeah, but.
Would you own only one, OP? It's a piece unique and the the
thing that's unique about it is that you got to choose the
color. So it would be a color that
Rolex hasn't done, and if it's piece unique that means they
never will do that color again. First of all, my decision
fatigue, like my my, like I would just basically have a

(13:48):
Pantone book and be looking at it for the rest of my life.
I would never. I would never even I one day I'd
be like, OK, I picked it. It's probably going to be a
green. No, that's too like it would be
honestly, it would be this is like.
You imagine an olive green opie.Well, that's what I'm.
That's what I would want, I think.
But OK, so here's where when I start to play it out.

(14:12):
And would it be matte or would it be?
Always, always like the mat lacquer.
Yeah. OK.
But here's where I find this question more complicated.
OK, so I bought my turquoise Opie because I was like, wow,
this color is so special. I started photographing it.
Then I was like, it's so fun to have this pop of color.

(14:36):
Yeah, on my wrist. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, then I that's why I got the yellow and the coral, The
coral and the celebration. I do have a hard time thinking
about if I didn't. Yeah, if I had one because you
meet and also if I picked a color.

(14:57):
Life is that even to live. Well, but also cause like let's
say. Only one OP even.
Though, OK, OK, OK. No, I mean color.
Could you even imagine a life like?
That colors OK, OK, but so. Such limitation.
But OK, listen, so here's the thing.

(15:17):
I wear a lot of green, but does that mean I would want to wear a
green watch all the time? And I think the answer is
probably no. You know, like.
Yes, but it's not your only watch.
It's your only OP, Yeah. But I love the OP's, they are my
favorite version I. Don't really wear them this
year. Well, but you know, anyway, OK,

(15:39):
so. So the answer is you don't know.
Yeah, the answer is I don't know.
You'd have to actually be faced with the question in order the
the the problem with. Hypothetical, I think it's
impossible not to take it. Not to take it because I get the
money back. So it's like trading one OP for
a piece unique but it's the onlyone I could have.
I might do it. You know, other ones, You just.

(16:00):
Yeah. And but then I'd have to find
other colorful watches that replace it.
Or I just say now I'm a monotone, I only have this one
colorful piece. Oh no.
No, but I mean, I really love I,I, OK, yes, I think that's what
I'd go with. Last question, and this is an
easy and quick one. Neski Dave asks, is Sweden your

(16:23):
forever home? No, no.
I'm just kidding. Oh, I just thought it.
Would be funny. I guess we are splitting up at
some point. No, I mean we have talked about
Sweden being our forever home. Yeah.
I mean, who knows what's going to happen.
There's things that could changeyour mind.
But in terms of plans, yeah, we really love, we think about it,

(16:44):
we do love Sweden. We're very.
Settled. We've moved out to the
countryside in Sweden that we live on a little dirt Rd.
It's it's a life that we're enjoying and we don't really see
the need change now. We.
Have talked about doing temporary residence in other
places like anywhere. That's a little warmer.
Well, OK, I want to go to Portugal.

(17:06):
Go. Go live somewhere for for a few
months or even up to maybe even a year, you know?
I came from a place where you have snowbirds.
So what snowbirds are is they'repeople who live up in the
northern US and they come down to Florida.
When? When they retire.
No, when it's cold, well, they're retired, but it's like

(17:27):
when it's cold. So I want to be a European
snowbird. So then, like in this dark time,
I want to go down to Portugal. Okay.
Or Spain. Well, you know, if you watch
YouTube there's a lot of people who buy these rundown places in
remote. Friends, yeah, I know, but I
don't want to have to fix up something and.

(17:48):
Then we yeah, but you build an entire YouTube channel around.
Fixing. Oh boy.
Oh boy. So that'll be our new no.
So we'll have a watch podcast and a home repair YouTube.
Channel Oh boy, no. I I want to be a snowbird with
no responsibilities. That might be a little ways off.

(18:10):
Yeah. But for now, let's just say
Sweden's our forever. Home.
Yes. Bye everyone.
Bye. Bye bye.
Bye bye, bye, bye, bye, bye. Bye bye, bye, bye, bye.
Bye. Bye.
Bye bye bye bye bye bye bye, bye, bye, bye bye.
