Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's in the news today, but it was actually on
TV Reload the podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Last week Their Life Geday.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Everyone, Welcome back to TV Reload Today. On the podcast,
I'm joined by one of the more complicated housemates of
Big Brother twenty twenty five. Edward entered the Big Brother
House with an open heart and total honesty, and immediately
it felt to me as though he couldn't help but
be authentically himself. And whether viewers saw him as sensitive
or forthright, one thing is undeniable about Edward. He made
audiences think and gave us something that we don't often
(00:28):
see in the Big Brother House. In today's chat, you'll
hear Edward open up about the devastating letter from home
that saw him a victed, the moment he realized that
something wasn't right, and how it felt to walk out
without the chance of probably saying goodbye straight away. He
speaks candidly about the pressure cooker of the Big Brother House,
the moment viewers heard him say he wanted to quit,
and why, despite everything, walking out on his own was
(00:52):
never actually an option. We dive into the villain edit
that rattled the fan base, including that moment where he
told a housemate to shut up that instantly shit, how
viewers saw his game, and why Edward takes full accountability
for those words he used in the heat of the moment.
We also unpack his connection with Mia, the confusion around
whether feelings were mutual. Plus we will talk about his
(01:13):
falling out with Vinnie and where the friendship actually stands now.
Edward also opens up about why he is still single,
and I ask him a pretty direct question about his
thoughts on compromise, and of course he answers a few
rapid fire questions, including who he believes is going to
win Big Brother twenty twenty five. Edward is reflective in
this interview, which I really appreciate, and with back to
(01:34):
back interviews today, we did sort of have to cut.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
This short, well a little bit shorter than.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I'd hoped, but we definitely get some really good conversation.
All in all, I have to say, when fans look
back at the twists and turns of twenty twenty five,
Edward's exit will forever be remembered as one of the
most shocking moments of the year. All in all, I'd
like to say, welcome to the podcast, Edward bed how
are you.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
I'm good mate, how are you going very well?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Thank you?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Has this been like a lot Having to chat to
the media today about this Big Brother experience.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Been a big day, but mate, loving it well.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Your elimination came as a bit of a shock too.
I think everyone it was just such a shocking way
to leave Big Brother, and I just was curious about
how that would have sunk in.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Yeah, look, I've mentioned this so a few people I
sort of gathered about halfway through the letter, though I
don't that's the same my mum would write, because you know,
you often knows how your mum right, so olways see
birthday cards and.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Letters and messages.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
But I didn't obviously say anything because I thought, shit,
if it is from um, you know, I can't say anything.
And I'm a very emotional person, so I definitely would
have been crying a lot more if it was from
my mum. But I sawt it was like, oh, that's
not really what she says, And then sort of got
to the end and I obviously.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Had no idea it was going to be an eviction
of it.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
At the end of it.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
Yeah, look, it is what it is, you know, that's
big Brother. He throws curve balls in there and you
can be caught off guard. You never know what's coming
next to Big Brother. But yeah, no, it's all good.
I definitely walked out smiling, that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Well, the Letter from Home has always been like a
huge moment for reality TV shows, but I kind of
feel like you've reset that down for the best of
reality TV history. Anytime anyone gets a letter from Home,
they're going to be like, is this the Edward moment?
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Yeah, I know it's a bit crazy, but yeah, Like
poor Vinnie, obviously he was pretty brutal as well. And
as I said, with Vinnie's you know, we were all
in good spirits and jumping around and singing a beautiful
song and all came crashing down, whereas at least for mine,
we're all crying.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
As it was, I could just keep crying. Everybody exactly right.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
It was a shock to everyone and now it really
touched me. Last night I was on stage because I
hadn't seen the reactions to my housemates of me going
and really pull my marsh rings a bit. And as
you know, with Big Brother, mate, you don't get long
to say goodbye, but it was so important just to
hug all of them and I love told every one
of them that I loved him, and and I went
and then.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
You're outside in dream world. Did you then just go
on a ride?
Speaker 3 (03:43):
No, I didn't go. I had to do allude to
the media stuff, as you know.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
Yeah, abso be in lockdown for a bit for a
couple of nights, so I didn't get much contacted out
so well, but it was a really good time just
to reflect.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
On my time and how it was in there and
just how grateful I was.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
And soak it all in. And I was very much
I'm a realist, you know. I knew you walking in there,
but you know, when it's time to go, it's time
to go. You can't be too upset and take it personally.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
It is what it is.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Well, on the live feeds, Feward's heard you say at
one point that you wanted to quit, and I thought
that was really shocking because we rarely hear housemates wanting
to quit the show. Can you talk us through what
was going through your mind emotionally in that moment where
you wanted to leave on your own accord?
Speaker 5 (04:23):
Yeah, Look, I think, as you know better than most
Ben that you know it is a brush of cooker
in there, Like you know, emotions are high, tensions are high.
One thing I've stated is so many times like I'm
so so close to my family, my brothers and sisters,
and I missed them incredibly from the moment I walked in,
thought about them every second. And a lot of my
coping mechanisms when I'm a home is talking to family,
talking to friends, you know, catching up with people, going
(04:45):
for a walk with them. And obviously, like all my
other house mates, you don't get that in that and
you know, you know, you're definitely just say things off
the top of your tongue where and you don't mean it.
Obviously I said it, but no, I stuck true to
my word. I never ever, ever was going to walk out.
I was always going to leave when told to leave.
So although I said it it was a bit of
tongue in cheek. I did like my time in there,
(05:06):
and I had to do my family proud, And sometimes
were really tough situations where you just have to dig
deep and just find the kind of confidence get through things.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
And yeah, as you know, there's lots of ups and downs.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
I went my heart as sleeves, so it was probably
a little bit more obvious for me when I was
down in the dumps a.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Little bit, as all people do.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Then I would say, though that it's fair to just
sort of throw this question in here, because I think
from my perspective, you looked quite overwhelmed by the Big
Brother experience.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, you're definitely right.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
I definitely held back a little bit the first couple
of days just to sort of suss out the situation
and meet people. As I said last night stage, like,
I didn't want to just jump into the boys clubs
straight away. I know that Colin, Vinnie and Bruce sort
of connected really well, they're very similar in age, but yeah,
I just wanted to get to know everyone, and I
didn't you know, obviously we're in there for a while
and you never know where your times are. But at
(05:52):
the same time, I didn't want to rush into anything.
I just wanted to just take my time a bit.
And you know, it is a bit confronting, you know,
like a lot of the people hang out with now
later my best family and friends that I've known for
ten twenty thirty years. So yeah, being in there, it
catches it by surprise a little bit at the start,
and definitely to me as you would have seen. So
it took me a little bit to sort of get
out of my shell. But that's okay. I was happy
(06:14):
with that situation. I didn't want to just go all
guns blazing.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
I think as well.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
What people and viewers may not know is when you
get put into that show, there is this sort of
very unnatural environment that you're probably not prepared for. I
remember walking into your house like two days before. You
went in there and walked around, and I was like,
who is forget the big Brother? When you walk in,
it doesn't feel like you're going to stay in a house.
It feels, you know, it does have this very bright
(06:40):
TV set, like you're on the set of play School.
Like you think, how am I going to live with
all of these bright colors? It kind of looks like,
WELLT Disney threw up in here.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah, it is very bright, lots of lights, lots of cameras.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
But look, you get used it pretty quickly. You know,
you don't tend to take too much notice of it.
That definitely didn't play a part in anything. You know, again,
we're all in the house together. I wasn't any different
from other mates. We you sort of just forget about it.
The microphone just comes second nature along with the cameras
and whatnot, so tried it to know people. But yeah,
look it's definitely you know, you get in and it
(07:09):
is very bright. But yeah, look it's all part of
the game.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
It's all fun. And yeah it was. It was amazing,
that is what it is.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
So when you got out and you got back to
your hotel room, was Mia standing outside of your hotel
room looking through the window. Because I feel like at
this point of the chat, we should unpack MIA's relationship
with you.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
What was your take on all of that?
Speaker 1 (07:28):
She seemed to be pretty, you know, hot and heavy
for you, and a lot of viewers were questioning when
she came out, she said that you kind of maybe
led her on.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Where does that all sit with you?
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Now? Was there ever genuine feelings towards her in a
romantic way?
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Look? No, Mia certainly wasn't there in my hotel room.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
And I, as I said on the show, I wasn't
there to look for love. Was there to build some
really good connections and relationships with people. And you know,
as I've said, I'm very very close with my twin
sister and my older sister, and I tend to get
along with the girls really really well. And you know,
I was treating and acting with her like I was
with all the other girls. You know, just a sincere friendship.
And you know, when you don't have much experience in
(08:05):
the dating world that sometimes maybe can get taken the
wrong way. Not not in a bad way, but yeah, like,
you know, everything I was saying to her, I was
saying to Coco and Alana and Emily, and.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
So, yeah, it was a genuine friendship. And that's okay.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
You know, I was glad that she seemed interested in me,
but yeah, I just wanted to let her know that
I just wanted to be really good friends with her.
And she's a great person and we will be friends
for a long time to come. Can't wait to catch
up on the outside, as well as all my other housemates.
So yeah, she's a very very nice person and yeah,
very much looking forward to being able to catch up.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
What's the deal with your single them? I can't understand this.
Why how are you still single? What do you think
is the problem with finding the love of your life?
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Good question, Ben, Look, there's probably a few factors. I mean,
I'm very happy in my life.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
You know, I've got a lot.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Of supportive family and friends around me. I'm very very
close to my nephews and niece. I've been a lot
of time with them. I helped them out a lot.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
That's all amazing, though, Like, you know, it's great that
you've got a great family and friends and those sorts
of things, But it sounds like we need to expand
your world. There must be some sort of obstacle that
we need to help.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
I'm not your therapist, and I certainly don't have a degree,
but I'm like, what do we need.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
To do to push you into this space where you
know we could see you in a relationship.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Well, Ben, maybe I need help, mate. If you can
help me along the way, that'd be awesome.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
I think as we get older, and maybe I'm jumping
in here too early, but have you struggled to compromise
with people? Like do you find that that might be
a bit of an issue?
Speaker 5 (09:25):
No, I definitely don't think so. I'm not just stuck
in my ways. I think I'm a very giving and
generous person. Yeah, I don't think that's the issue. I'm
very rarely lonely, so you know, I'm still hoping I
find the one and can get a real good connection there.
But you know, I've got no need to rush into
things and be out there desperate for something. I need
(09:45):
it to work for both sides, and yeah, like when
it comes, it comes.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
So I'll be your wing men. We're going out on
the GC. When are you free, I'm going to go
out and find you.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
With mate, I'll have half to shape on.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
I was ready to go and a fresh haircut, fresh fades.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
I won't be wearing just jobs like I was on
the show.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
I'm going to jump into something else because I'm got
such a little bit of time. But you know the
comments involving Vinnie and that live nomination, you know, the
live nomination was a really big turning point in your game.
Did you feel a shift in the house after that
moment or a little bit?
Speaker 5 (10:20):
I mean I think after every nomination there was a
bit of a shift in the house. Like a lot
of people came up to me and said that, you know,
it was very brave you and it was very good
of you to do that and speak to speak you truth,
and so yeah, a lot of people were fine with it.
You know, As I said, I like Vinnie I don't
dislike him. I never wanted to see him go like that.
I obviously had no idea that he was going to
be out a couple hours later.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
But what you said calling him fake though, really turned everything,
Like as in, I'm wondering whether if Jane hadn't had
called out his fakeness, whether you would have jumped on that,
Like did you go, oh, hang on a sec, Jane
called him fake, Now I'm going to use that, or
were you also thinking he was fake?
Speaker 2 (10:54):
I'm just confused.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Yeah, look, very good question.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
Then, as you know, there's just so much that goes
on in the house, and as I said to Vinnie,
like I think there was probably a couple of.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Times there being so young, and he was very gave
a lot.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Of unfelicited advice, no one.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
Time solicited, you know, like I said to him, like,
you know, in a good way, probably came across bad.
Is you know, you're twenty one, you know, like you
live your life, you know, like just have fun and
be a twenty one year old. And I was only
meaning that out of a good heart. And I've spoken
to Vinie. It was the first person I called last night.
We'll be catching up for a beer. You can't wait
to see him. It definitely got blown out of the
water a little bit as well.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
So what about the view look back at some of
the gameplay, because like one of the things that happened
in the show, which I thought really ruffled the fans,
it was almost like within a moment you were given
a villain edit. We saw this moment of you sort
of aggressively saying to someone to shut up. I remember
being in the audience as that happened, and the reaction
was like visceral. It felt like being sort of slapped
in a weird way. How do you feel about such
(11:48):
a small moment becoming such a big part of your
time on the show?
Speaker 3 (11:51):
That definitely wasn't any bad edits. It is what it is.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
I said what I said. It's like for everyone to see. So,
you know, I take all accountabilities to everything I said
and did. One thing I can hoddle on my head
high on is everything I may have said. I did
apologize for to people, whether you know I slipped up
and said something. You know, it's a pressure cooker. There's
lots of things going on air run's tensions are high.
Sometimes you say things you don't mean and that was
certainly times you did.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
I wasn't the only one. I won't be the last one.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
So yeah, look, obviously things things are sad, and you
know your.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Time back, obviously you wouldn't choose those words.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
But it's real life. That's the thing. Is like, if
people want to talk about that.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
I find that the Big Brother experience works best when
people behave the way they do in real life. And
we all have short tempers. We've all said things to
people that we kind of wish that we didn't. But
I think that's what gave you a real authenticity about
being a housemaid in twenty twenty five, which I have
to say, I really appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Now, thanks Ben, I appreciate that.
Speaker 5 (12:43):
And again, like I was myself, and you know sometimes
I do crack the shit sometimes I do.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
You have a short temper, and that's life, you know.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
I think you were just being yourself.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
I guess you know. I won't sway from that. I've
got such supportive family and friends who love me for
who I am. And you know, I love everyone, whether
they're lovers or hate it.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
It's fine.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Oh it's out fifteen minutes, so we're gonna to wrap
up in about a minute.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Okay, Yeah, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
All right, Well I'll skip away from that question and
I'll just ask you what I've been asking everyone, Edward,
who do you think was the smartest housemate that was
in there?
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Smartest?
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (13:12):
I think Connor's a very intelligent man. He knows a
lot about the world. He's a great human and he's
very intelligent.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
And who do you think is going to win tonight?
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Like we're, you know, hours away from finding out who
the winner of Big Brother twenty twenty five is.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Do you have a pick? And why do you think
that they should win?
Speaker 4 (13:28):
I'm not.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Look, I think all of them are absolutely deserving to win.
Big Brucie my best mate in the house, I'd love
for him to win. But yeah, I'll be very pleased
no matter who wins. I think we'd be really exciting tonight.
It'll be awesome to see who's going to win. But yeah,
I think any of them can take it out absolutely.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
And just a final thing, everyone I ask joins the
pod gets the behind the scenes question. Behind the scenes
question I think people are talking about today is are
you going to be a part of tonight's FINALEA of
previous housemates that have been avictor going to be there.
Speaker 5 (13:56):
Tonight, I can only speak of my heart. I will
be there to see everyone.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Have you got a dance routine or of any kind
of an act that we might see you perform on stage.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
I don't think anyone wants to see me dancing more, Ben,
I stick away from dancing.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Edward.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Can I just say thank you so much for your
generosity with your time. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you on
this show. I thought you were a fantastic contribution to
the selection of housemates. You really brought something very authentic
and I really do hope that you walk away from
this experience feeling very proud of what you were able
to share and bring to the house dynamics.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Thank you so much, Ben, I really appreciate the chat.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
Andy.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Let's be in touch and mate, if you can be
the wing man.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I will be. I will be for sure. I'll look
forward to it.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Enjoy chatting to the media, mate, and I look forward
to that drink at some point.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Awesome, Thanks so much.
