(00:00):
Part of an organization that raises moneyto then give two veterans organizations, which
I think is fantastic. Tell mea little bit about what you guys are
doing. Yeah, So we're calledthe Veterans Whiskey Society and started back in
twenty eighteen, and we actually modeledourselves after another organization that was doing similar
things. So we're sitting around drinkingbourbon one day, going what can we
(00:21):
do? You know? So there'sfive of us that started the organization,
and one guy's Air Force, oneguy's Navy, the other guy's army,
and then there's two of us whodidn't serve. All our families served,
and it was just like, youknow, we still have a hertford the
military, right, what can wedo to give back? And we're like,
well, people seem to like thisbrown water really well, right,
so there's a little bit of popularityon that. Yeah, it's having a
(00:43):
moment. Well, between the fiveof us, we have like two thousand
bottles of bourbon. Oh wow.And so we were like, well,
you know what if we just startedyou know, taking barrel pics with different
distilleries and doing you know, Ihave special allocations with different liquor distributors and
like you know, bubbles or placeslike that and doing special labeling and then
if we auction them off, wedo tastings things like that, and any
(01:06):
of the proceeds that we take inwe give out to different five o' one
c three veteran organizations. That's fantastic. So you do events like once a
month, you said, what dothey tell me about some of the events.
So in fact, next Wednesday, the twenty fourth, we're doing what's
called a Whiskey Wednesday. We're tryingto do these each month at a different
location, but we're gonna be atthe Whiskey Biscuit on was it Broadway in
Floyd, just north of Hampton fromfour thirty to seven thirty, and we're
(01:30):
gonna have some special bottle releases there, we do some tastings there, and
of course they're going to be doingtons of drinks specials there, but we
do that just to raise awareness. We're gonna have some veterans benefits organizations there
to help people walk through how toget the most out of their veterans benefits.
Oh that's fantastic because that is anightmare. Yeah, I mean,
you know, because of chuck.Yeah, trust me, I know.
(01:51):
It's never ceases to amaze me howmany ways the government messes with veterans.
It's an and I probably would havethought it was overblown until I married a
veteran, a disabled veteran at that, and just the nonsense and idiocy that
we have to deal with on aregular basis is unbelievable. Yeah, it's
(02:14):
just so much real tape. Andmy father lost her of the two tours
in Vietnam, and for him togo in and try and get benefits just
like pulling teeth. Oh, it'sa nightmare. And then when you do
get benefits, they do things like, oh, we overpaid you for four
years, so we're gonna start takingmoney back and you're like, wait a
minute, you didn't overpay me.And that's fifty fresh layers of Well anyway,
I don't need to go down thatwhole rabbit hole. So when people
come to the event, how thisis an awareness event, you're not necessarily
(02:37):
raising money or are you raising moneyat the same time, so we can
always take donations, right, we'replatting and certified with Apple pay, so
you know, there's no worries aboutlike, hey, a they're going to
misappropriate our fundtor right right. Butyes, to raise awareness, we have
some T shirts and things like thatwe sell. We give one hundred s
of those proceeds to different organizations, like we partnered with the Dougas County Veterans
Monument Society and donate money to them, the Autobill Foundation, So lots of
(03:02):
organizations locally and nationally. So likeone of the other events we're doing is
the Rare Steake event downtown. Ijust saw that I might buy a ticket
to that. But that that thatlike you're talking about meat. Yeah,
and I don't mean meat, Imean meat. Yes, that's what I
said. N E A T That'sfantastic. How is that gonna work for
you? Guys? So really cool. So we So the organization is called
(03:23):
Dining Out and they're the same companyputs in Top Taco, which will also
be at Top Taco up in Westminster. They do chicken fight, uh,
and then they're doing similar events donein Dallas. And so Jonathan Easley is
one of the guys who leads toorganization with me, and he's in Dallas,
so it's kind of seamless to bein both locations together. But we
have a booth. There's a mobilecigar lounge called Trinity Cigars, and they're
(03:49):
gonna be at Top Talk. I'msorry, it's rare, and so we're
partnering with them and with dining out, and so we've got a booth inside
that kind of that smoking lounge wherepeople can come up and sample bourbons that
we have, and we'll have alot of our partners there as well as
different distilleries. Right. But theevent is all like the top steak restaurants
throughout Colorado. Yeah, and youcan do a lot a lot of my
(04:11):
favorites. We were Meat Eating Family, I mean, yeah, we are
meet Eating Family, and I lookedat the list of participants and I was
like, this has my name writtenall over. That's really cool. Yeah,
and you can link, by theway, I have a link to
the Veterans Whiskey Society event page andit also has a link to the meat
event that we're talking about right nowas well, so you can see all
of that stuff. How can peopleget involved, Like you know, to
(04:31):
your point about bourbon, lots ofbourbon is a is as much a beverage
as it is a hobby. Fora lot of people. And I lived
in Kentucky for three years, soI have friends that have, you know,
thirty thousand dollars bourbon collections. Soit is definitely having a moment.
Now, do you have a piecewhere maybe novice bourbon drinkers who have maybe
(04:56):
just started their bourbon discovery because allyou guys are kind of experienced bourbon.
How does that all play into it. Yeah, so we're happy to introduce
anybody to tasting bourbon, to enjoyingthe bourbon experience, and it's you know,
bourbon, whiskey, scotch, whateveryour choice is, but there's different
nuances to each thing. So yeah, one of my good friends is Justin
Riggs, and he's the estate managerfor Rimy Quantro. He's going to be
(05:16):
there doing tastings and samplings next Wednesdaywith some special bottle releases. But it's
easy to talk somebody through it andlike how to enjoy it, how to
sip it for the first time, you know, how to save it.
Don't base your opinion on the firstsip you take, because you're just burning
all the spirit off your tongues atthat point. But then you know,
take your second sip, hold onyour mouth, roll it around your tongue,
(05:39):
feel it, you know, getthe mouth feel that it touch all
the taste buds, so you're gettingall the different flavors out of it.
You should always taste some sort ofearthiness, some sort of wood, some
sort of fruit, maybe a littlesmoke, yep, some sort of sweet.
And I say this is someone whohats bourbon. When I lived in
Kentucky, one of our very goodfriends is one of those people with the
big collection, and he made ithis mission to find a bourbon that I
(06:00):
liked in a way I would enjoyit. And he tried desperately for two
years, and I finally said, dude, I'm just wasting your bourbon.
Like I'm this is not my thing. But for a lot of people,
it's a passion. You know,it is a passion. Yep. There's
there's I mean, there's so muchvariety in bourbons and scotches, and I
mean there's people think it's sacrilegious sometimes, but there's peanut butter bourbons out there.
(06:24):
Yeah, you might like something likethat, you know, but no,
Jack, I literally tried everything.I tried bourbon cream, I tried
everything, and it's just not myIt's not my thing. This is not
my palette, but that doesn't meanthat other people don't love it and enjoy
it. You can find out moreabout the Veterans Whiskey Society event coming up
or the organization. They have aFacebook group. It is private, but
(06:45):
if you want to join it,they will let you in. And so
this is one of those things whereI actually have organizations too. If you
guys are looking for organizations to donateto, I have one very specific one
in mind that might be appealing toyou as well because of our industry,
because there's so one of the thingsthat we have an abundance of in Colorado
is incredible people who are working sohard to support veterans and lower veterans suicide
(07:13):
and create a pathway back into societythat eases that transition. And we have,
we really do have just an embarrassmentof riches in that area. So
I have a few that I'd liketo talk to you about that. But
the event Wednesday night again is thatthe Whiskey Club Whiskey Biscuit. It's a
good name for a whiskey bar.And where's that. It's the corner of
Floyd and Broadway, just north ofHampden, so come on down. They're
(07:36):
basically doing Happy Hour four thirty seventhirty, so come on down and do
this. Jack Jla, thanks somuch for doing this. First of all,
for what you're doing, for takinga hobby and making it into something
that is going to help other people, it's our honor. I think that's fantastic.
