Speaker 2 (01:58):
Check them out.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Okay, so we got a lot of stuff on the
blog today, but right before the show, obviously they announced
the new Pope. So I did what I've been doing
and I went to groc Although now I've been told
I need to go to Perplexity for deep research. I
do ask Rock to show me its sources and it did,
and I feel confident I got a lot of information
(02:18):
about the new Pope. If you just heard the end
of Rosses show was talking about Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
He has been elevated as the next Pope.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
There will be a mass coming up very very shortly
where he will be sort of presented to the throngs
of crowds that have inevitably gathered in Saint Peter Square.
He was born in the United States of America in Chicago,
but he's currently a Peruvian citizen. He's a man of
the world. He speaks a bunch of languages, and he
(02:50):
is known for having a calm.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Demeanor, good humor, and humility.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
He enjoys tennis, but doesn't play as much as he
used to colleagues. Praises listening skills, ability to synthesize issues,
and judicious questioning. And De Texter sent this and said, France,
Oh that was about Francis. Never mind. So all of
that is on the blog. He has determined he has
decided to go be Pope Leo the fourteenth, and now
(03:16):
every time I say hello on Ross's show, I'm going
to think, oh, I'm just being well, not Pope Leo,
I'm just being Leo, Uncle Leo.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
From Seinfeld for those of you who didn't watch.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
So all of that stuff is on the blog today
about the Pope. At twelve fifteen, we are going to
talk to Assistant Minority leader Ty Winter. Think you Jesus
that the legislative session is over, so no more damage
can be inflicted on Colorado's We're gonna find out from
Representative Winter what was done in this legislative session.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
How much it's probably going to cost us. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
We're going to have him for about if he calls
in on time, about eleven minutes, so we're.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Gonna squeeze in as much as we can can.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
May revisit that more with him next week, but I
just wanted to find on the day after the legislative
session what actually happened. So I also mentioned this yesterday
on the show. And you know how sometimes you see
something and then it just starts to do a slow
burn on you. You know, you just you start thinking
about it, and the more you start thinking about it,
(04:22):
the more it irritates you, and then you start.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
To get mad.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
That is how I felt about Democratic Colorado State Senator
Chris Kolker standing on the floor of the Colorado Senate and,
in his desire to virtue signal how open minded and
caring he is about trans people, invoked the thought of
(04:48):
dying someday and being judged by trans Jesus, I'm not
even gonna play it again.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Because it just makes me mad now.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
And the first thing, you know, I'm thinking about this
yesterday and I was like, you know what, you know,
what would never happen. No one would ever have the
temerity to make that kind of comment about Mohammed. Nobody
would ever do that because that will get you murdered,
legit murdered.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
So why is it okay? Why is it okay for
him to do this? And why in the world?
Speaker 1 (05:20):
And by the way, he also talked in detail about
the movie Talladega Knights in the same sentence as trans Jesus,
I just I think we should reach out to his
office a rod and ask him to come on the show.
I don't know if he will. I have to know
why he thinks that's okay.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I just I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
And I'm not one of those people. I'm not one
of those deeply religious people. I haven't been to church
since I don't know when. But I very much believe
in God, and I very much believe in respecting other
people's stuff when it comes to their faith, unless you're
a scientologist, which I just think is kind of weird.
But I'm not going to be mad at you. I'm
just admit I think it's kind of weird.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
But some of the Mormon.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Stuff is weird too. You know, every every religion there's
weird stuff in there. I mean, the whole Jesus dying
and coming back from the you know, dead. It's weird,
guys to people who aren't Christians. But that's just I
don't know's it's been rubbing me wrong the entire time
since yesterday. Now we also have fantastic, fantastic audio of
(06:26):
a man who is barn storming the nation trying to
destroy the oligarchy. He is dedicated of vowed socialist Bernie Sanders.
Bernie and AOC, another avowed socialist. And remember in socialism
we're told everyone is equal, you get equal outcomes, right,
(06:50):
and socialism everybody's the same. So when on the Brett
Bear Show yesterday or day before, Bernie Sanders was asked
about his prolific use of private jets to get around
the country, Yeah, private jets and went something like this.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Alyssa slockin senator from Michigan. She said, you shouldn't be
using an oligarchy. It's over people's head. You've gotten criticized
from other people. Free beacon, says Bernie Sanders spent two
hundred twenty one thousand on private jets fighting the Oligarchy
tour paid for by friends of Bernie Sanders. That you've
spent millions of dollars in campaign funds on private jet
travel over the years.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
How do you push back on both of those things?
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Un the last time you saw Donald Trump during her
campaign mode at National Airport.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
No, no, no, it doesn't. But he's also not fighting
the oligarchy.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
No. And you run a campaign and you do three
or four or five rallies in a week, The only
way you can get around to book the thirty thousand
people think I'm going to be sitting on a waiting
line at United waiting you know what, thirty thousand people
are waiting. That's the only way you can get around.
No apologies for that. That's what campaign travel about. We've
done it in the past, We're going to do it
in the future.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
And you think that this is hitting a mark, You
think it's scratching the itch that voters want to hear from.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
I think at a time when the people on top
of doing phenomenally well, when seniors, working class people are struggling,
people want to hear action to stand up to the people,
will have the wealth and the power and create an
economy that works for all of us, not just the
people on top.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
I just want to point out I in my entire lifetime,
and I'm a successful individual. I do okay financially. I
have never set foot in a private jet, not once.
And when I saw this yesterday, I started laughing, and
I was really grateful that my daughter had to read
Animal Farm because I had just read it, and all
I kept thinking was some animals are more equal than others.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Isn't it? And he was so cavalier.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
By the way, do you know how bands travel around
the country, you know, like rock stars and stuff. They
get on buses and they go play a different, different
venue every single night.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
They put a little planning.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Into logistics so they can travel by bus and go
from city to city to city, not four a week,
seven a week sometimes, and they do it just fine.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
But Bernie cannot be bothered.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
And this makes me, I will tell you, this makes
me look down on people who take this man seriously
because you know, in our house we have a saying
deeds not words. It's not original to us, but boy
is it effective, because anybody can say anything. We're gonna
fight for the little guy, build upon him to the
top economy.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Everybody will be great then and then he in.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
The same breath on most He's like, I'm not gonna
stand in line it united with all those peons. I mean,
it is stunning, and he doesn't even try to hide it.
He is unapologetic. He is ready to go. He is
such a tool, an absolute tool.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Good gravy.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Anyway, this textter said everyone is equal except those who
are deemed equal.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Mm hmm, Mandy.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Between the trans Jesus talk and being totally okay with
miners changing their gender, we have the most extreme, crazy,
sick government in the country and everyone just sits back
and takes it. I can't stand that there is not
more outrage. You're obviously not running in Republican circles because
the outrage.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
It's a couple two things are going on.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
We're going to talk to ty Winter here in just
a few moments about what just happened during the legislative session.
There's a couple of things happening here that have to
be addressed. There's a lot of outrage, but right now
the numbers are such.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
That the outrage is futile.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Being angry about what's going on in Colorado just distracts
from the bigger goal, which is getting more moderate people elected.
And by moderate, there are some districts where there's never
going to be a Republican that gets elected, and those
districts we got to find moderates, moderate Democrats to pull
the state back from the progressives.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
It's just so there's a sort of a.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Recognition that in the short term, being angry doesn't do
anything because the Republicans don't have the numbers to fix anything.
But you know, I see all these angry people all
the time on my Facebook groups and my Facebook pages,
and they're they're like, we need to do a day
where all the conservatives stay home. I'm like, that may
make you feel better, but it's not going to do anything.
What we need to do is find really good candidates
(11:31):
and support them with time and money and get them elected.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
You know that that's what we need to do.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
So I feel you, And if you feel that way now,
you're not going to want to listen to the interview
with ty Winter about everything that was just inflicted on
us in this last legislative session. Mandy, remember the rickety
old playing the Indians baseball team flew in during the
movie Major League.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
I think Bernie should fly in one of those. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Yeah, by the way, you know, to cavalierly dismiss the
fact that they're you using donating money to travel in
a way that most, if not all, of your donors
will never have access to. It's insane. Okay, Texter, that's
upset about Colorado. You're not going to want to listen
(12:20):
to this next interview because the system minority leader Ty Winter,
Representative Ty Winter is joining me to talk about everything
that this legislative and a session inflicted on us. First
of all, Representative Winner, welcome back to the show.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Well, thank you for having me. I really appreciate it,
and thank you for allowing us to get our voice out.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Okay, well let's start.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
I mean, I want you to hit the we'll call
them high points, but maybe they're the lowest points. What
are the biggest things that came out of this legislative
session that you guys fought the hardest again.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
So you know, to be honest with you, when we
started this session, we took the things that we heard
at the doors. We took the things the kitchen to
the issues that people had and not what we fought for.
We fought for affordability, we fought for public safety, we
fought for parental rights, and we fought to keep TABOR.
So I will say that was kind of like our
game plan going into this year, and I think we
had some wins. I think with TABOR being pushed off
(13:15):
the calendar, some people say you're in the minority, you
didn't do anything. That's not true. We debated as TABOR
heavily in the wild numerous times, and we activated the
voting base, which we know TABOR has about seventy percent
support amongst all Colorado and so I would definitely say
that was a big win for us. We pushed a
really bad healthcare bill that would have killed rule of
Colorado Healthcare that Rett Brown brought off the calendar. We
(13:38):
fought hard on Senate Bill three. The Second Amendment right
is under attack in the state of Colorado. House Republicans
put about thirty hours of battle in from the time
it hit committee all through the floor fighting for parental
rights with thirteen twelve, I mean, the egregious piece of legislation,
and our constituents know that parents know what's best for
their kids, not big government. So you know, I think
(13:58):
we worked on public safety. We tried to help our
law enforcement. We tried to you know, we had a
representative bring a rape against children bill which got killed.
So I mean, I think that we worked really hard
and trying to hit those kitchen table issues that we
talked to voters about.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Well, it's been very frustrating, and a lot of people
don't understand because they don't pay attention as closely as
they should, and they get really upset. They always say
things like, why didn't the Republicans stop it? Why didn't
they do more? I want you to just lay out
how badly outnumbered you are. I try to have Republicans
do this all the time to give some perspective.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Thank you. You know, out of sixty five, there's only
three two of us in the House, and it only
needs thirty three votes to get anything passed. And that's
why I always tell our base, that's why when Republicans
show up and it's fundraising season and its campaign season, Mandy,
the only way to fix this is its simple map,
it's condition and subtraction. There needs to be a lot
more Republicans in the Chamber now. We need to be
(14:54):
the majority. Yes, I love that that. If we could
get a lot closer, where it matters is in committees,
because you can get back legislation killed in a committee
of thirteen. You know, if you get it to where
there's just maybe one or two more Democrats on that
committee than Republicans, you might be able to sway a
Democrat or two. We saw it happen this year. So
the key to it is a simple map. The people
that back us and follow us when it comes time
(15:15):
for campaign season, they need to donate, They need to
help us knock doors, they need to make phone calls.
You really have to unite the base. We really have
to unite the grassroots, and we have to push forward
because at the end of the day, unless the numbers
are closer, we can fight all we want. And I
think the Mighty twenty two fought valiantly this year. You
were united. I think this was definitely the best team
I've been a part of, you know, this being my
(15:36):
third year, and we fought really hard, and I think
we did a bang up job for the people of Colorado.
I think we litigated the long bill. We talked about
how we don't have a revenue problem in this state.
We have a priority problem about how Colorado's are being
nickeled in dime to death, how the Democrats have circumvented
tabor with fees and enterprises. So you know, here's the
(15:57):
deal that we've laid the groundwork. The minor leader, our
staff is putting a ton of work. It showed this year.
Now we need the cavalry to run in in the end,
we've got an election coming up in a year. We
need that help and we need to change the numbers.
And that's the shortened all of them.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Representative Ty Winter is my guest.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
What ended up happening with HB thirteen twelve, that was
the incredibly onerous anti parent transgender right bill.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Well, the Senate amended some of the bad stuff out
of it, but it's still a horrible bill. I will
tell you this, I've been there three years now, and
when we saw the original assault weapons band, I mean
that State House was flooded with people. But I'll tell
you up when thirteen twelve was going to the Senate
committee about a week and a half ago, that is
the most people I have ever seen at the Capitol.
(16:43):
I mean Mama Bears and Papa bears and angry grandparents.
I mean, who have ever thought that if your kid
comes home in today's world, where you know, most kids
don't know what they had for breakfast, they can't remember
at the end of the day, and they come home
and say, hey, mom or dad, me and my friends
or however it went down. I don't want to be
called Tim anymore. I want to be called Tina. And
(17:04):
if you, as a parent, looked at your kid and said, hey,
we either want you to talk to your priest or
your pastor we want to talk to mental health professional,
you know, we just want to talk to you about this,
just as parents. One of the bill was written is
is if you didn't affirm your child at that point,
the state government can come in and take your kid
from you. I'm also worried about the coersion part, where
(17:25):
if you have a couple that is split up and
one parent's pitting another parent against the child and uses
this to take over custody. Right. So, you know, it
was agreed that it did pass. There was some amendments
on it. I wouldn't say it more palatable. I guess
it made it a little bit less worse, but it
passed in the Senate, it came over to the House.
We debated it not yesterday, day before, for as long
(17:47):
as we could debate it, and eventually the concurrences were
made with the said and amendment, and I'm sure the
governor will be signing it into law.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Unfortunately, what about the Uber Lift bill.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Somebody just sent this An uber and Lift driver said
that bill passed and now uber and probably.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Left will pull out of Colorado. Where does that stand?
Speaker 3 (18:08):
You know, I'm gonna be honest with you, Manby, I
truly don't believe that. I don't believe they're going to
pull out of Colorado. There was a lot of Republicans
the voter for that bill in the House. We heard
the stories. And here's the deal, ma'am. I'm a capitalist,
one hundred and ten percent right, But there's also responsibility
because life and pretty pursuit of happiness have to be
(18:28):
protected by the Constitution. And if any of those things
are being done by anybody, oh, I believe in capitalism.
I don't believe they'll leave. If they do leave, I
believe that somebody will come up with a great business
model that will fill that gap, because that's what capitalism does.
But at the end of the day after hearing the testimony,
hearing the sponsors talk about some of the horrible things
(18:50):
that have happened to these individuals. At some point, just
getting an email back from a ride share company or
just having a ride share company say we're going to
look into this, and then after months and months and
months of victims waiting for a response, I just you know,
I said, I don't think there was a center Republican
the voter FORLO, but I would say the majority of
House Republicans voter for maybe there was just four or
(19:11):
five that didn't. So that was one of those topics
this year that came up, and you know, there was
a problem that was saw, and you know, we had
a split vote on that, but I definitely saw both
sides of the story.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
What do you think is going to happen with the
labor bill?
Speaker 3 (19:26):
You know, the governor said he's going to veto it.
The problem I have with the labor bill is is
I believe that if people want to unionize, that's fine.
But when you force workers who don't want to de unionize,
then that's why I have the issue. Now, don't get
me wrong, That's why you join the country club so
if you want to swim in the pool and you
join the country club, you should be able to swim
in the pool. But on the other hand, on the
right to work, if you don't want to be part
(19:48):
of the union, I also don't think you should be
getting those benefits. So you know, it's it's that decision
that a worker has to make. But I don't think
anybody should ever be forced into being in the union.
And then secondly, to meet the threshold to unionized, they
wanted to get rid of the second vote. That's what
this bill was about. But the way that you know
Representative to Graphic Pasto County, he's a math genius. The
man can do math. The way he explained it is
(20:10):
is you only need about twenty five percent of a
quorum in the first vote, So you know, out of
one hundred people, you only only need twenty five people
to make it happen. So I don't know, I think
it needs to meet better scrutiny than that. You know,
you know, if we're talking about a true democratic process,
we're a republic. But if we're talking about democracy, that's
fifty plus one or mob rule. So I think twenty
(20:31):
five percent of one hundred isn't a fair shake for anybody.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
What what is your biggest disappointment out of this legislative session, You.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Know, ma'am. My biggest disappointment is is Colorados are hurting,
and they're hurting bad. They're deciding whether they're going to
put meat on the table or heat in the home.
They're digging through their couch cushions, trying to get enough
change to put gaps in their car to get to work.
And what makes it hard for me is as we
knocked doors and as we talk to people at the
capitol and we hear them testify hanging on by a thread.
(21:01):
And unfortunately, we have a state where they show up
and say we're government and we're here to help, and
they tax us and they fee us to death, and
they pass horrible legislation and they don't put priorities first.
They do all of what they want to do in
the beginning, they spend the money, and at the end
of the session, it's all the world's on fire. We
got to help fire departments, We have to take care
(21:22):
of our kids. Well, why you call it priority is
is you take care of it prior to everything else.
And the biggest disappointment is the majority party at the
state legislature constantly puts themselves before the people because they're
legislating from the realm of you don't know what's best
for you. Hold on, we know what's best for you
(21:44):
even if you don't know. And I guess that's the
most disappointing thing is to think that you're above the
will of the people, and if you think that you're
in a position to know what's best for them.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Is there any chance that the governor vetoes the immigration
bill that will absolutely cement our status as a sanctuary state,
considering there's a lawsuit that's been filed by the DOJ to.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
John us with you, I doubt it. The Democrats were
brazen this year. You know, numerous times we heard from
the law we wrote this legislation after the November election
if the total thumb their nose at the Trump administration,
which is unfortunate because they also ran a bill to
set aside four million dollars of your money to fight
the federal government's claws that are passed that goes against
(22:27):
federal law, and that's just insane to me. We know
that the Trump administration is going to come down hard
on a state, and we told people from the wall,
you can go back and watch us. We do not
want this to happen to the people of Colorado. Please Democrats,
do not pass these laws, because we know we need
that federal funding in our state. We pay into that
federal funding and the people of Colorado should ever return
(22:47):
on that tax dollar. But they didn't listen to us.
We ran favorability clauses on almost every bill we thought
that would bring attention to the Trump administration. We gave
a list to the governor, we gave a list to
the Majority leader and the Speaker, and these laws still pass.
So I don't think he will, but there will be
a price to pay. And unfortunately, the people of Colorado
(23:07):
are going to have to suffer because you know, and
with even more unfortunate is the governor agreed with the President.
And in Colorado, I think the recent points showed that
about fifty five to fifty six percent of Colorado's believe
in mass deportation. So I think this is a losing
issue for them. I think that that's where we really
excelled this year. I think that we still win on immigration.
We know that that like builds like thirteen twelve are
(23:30):
about an eighty twenty issue, and we know that Coloradins
support Tabor by about seventy percent. So now they're getting
into the weeds and they're starting to tell colorad AND's
we know what's best for you. And that's a Republicans
and conservatives when we need to grab the keys and say, okay,
we have the better ideas. Please put us in a
position to govern. The Democrats that have the keys to
the car for too long they're drunk, hand them over
(23:51):
to us and let us six free.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Representative ty Winner, I appreciate you working really hard to
keep things in check. I know it's an uphill battle,
and I appreciate you making time for me to today.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
I appreciate you. You know, God bless House District forty seven.
God bless call around, but most importantly, God blessed the
greatest country on our the United States of America.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
That's Representative Tye Winter.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Okay, guys, I got baseball breathing down my neck. But
I have a ton of stuff on the blog today
at mandy'sblog dot com. I got a great video that
clearly shows one of the reasons I will never fly
