(00:00):
A very special guest with us today. O Free Reiner is in town as
part of the showing of a filmcalled super Nova The Truth about October seventh.
She was actually at the Nova MusicFestival, and O Free, first
of all, thank you for makingtime to join us today. Thank you
for having me. So tell mea little bit about you growing up?

(00:22):
Did you grow You're born in Israel, did you grow you know? Tell
me a little bit about that.First. Yes, I was born and
raised in Haifai, Asrael, inthe north twenty one. I dismissed from
the Army a month ago. I'vebeen a combat soldier and a commander at
Search and Rescue for three years. And actually when I was at the Noble

(00:45):
Festival massacre, I was stealing service. I had my break after a while,
and I've grown and grown to bea I believe the idealistic person that
believes in the values of Israel. And now I was facing all of it
in front of my eyes at Octoberseventh. So tell me as much as

(01:07):
you feel comfortable about that day,I will do it as much as I
feel comfortable. At October seventh,I survived the Nova Festival massacre along with
four friends of mine. We escapedin a span of eleven miles when all

(01:29):
the rockets and the terrorists were shootingat us from a meters ahead. When
I arrived back home, I wastold that my brother in law and my
stepbrother is missing. And three daysafter I was informed that he is dead.

(01:49):
She lived a Gan was a Golanisoldier, very talented soldier, and
that sought out the defeat in frontof one thy five hundred terrorists for fifteen
minutes of battle, along with theonly twenty three other soldiers. And since
that day, since those two weeksof grief and sorrow, when all my

(02:13):
chest was fill uped with darkness,I wanted to come out with the light
and to bring my light and howI healed and how I'm healing until now
back here in the States. Doyou feel any survivor's guilt? Because you
made it? You and your friendsmade it, and so many people didn't.

(02:34):
Absolutely, And it will take mea lifetime to separate between my guilt
and to understand what's good for meand what's not for me. The first
question I ever asked myself was whyhim and not me? And how it
would looked like if they had tobury the both of us, the fact
that all of our family was struckin such a huge trauma and made me

(03:00):
sit in grief and sit in griefas the eldest daughter on the one hand,
and to get my life back andto live my life as a new
girl again at the same time, and to embrace those two contradictions sides and
me was extremely hard for a whileuntil I understood how to balance it out

(03:21):
inside my soul. Now, firstof all, tell me about the movie,
because you've been doing this now foralmost a month, so you've seen
this film. What can people learnthrough the movie Supernova? The truth about
October seventh? Tell me about thefilm itself. So, unfortunately I cannot
tell you a lot about this moviebecause I haven't watched it. The Supernova

(03:46):
film is a story that takes theterrorists footage rough footage from that day,
along with our survivors footages and videosalong the run, and they combine it
altogether to make some kind of astory of how we escaped. For me,
it's too hard to watch and it'stoo traumatizing to do it over and

(04:13):
over again. And even when Iwill come and they will see the film,
I will be in in my owngreen room, sitting quietly, and
I will come only afterwards because it'sit's a very graphic movie that's come here
to show exactly what happened. Iwas wondering how you were able to watch

(04:34):
this film. I was amazed bythat. So that makes so much sense
for you to take that stand.I was the word. I just couldn't
imagine doing that, and so thatmakes perfect sense to me. What do
you want people to know? BecauseI asked Ofrey off the air how she
been received, because she's been atdifferent university, She's been at all of
these different events. She's doing onethat is completely sold out here locally tomorrow

(04:58):
night, or I would give youthe ticket information but you can't go anyway.
How have you been received across thecountry and what have you seen that
either makes you feel good about thingsor makes you go wow, things are
not the way they should be.Well, Luckily for me, I came
to communities that embraced me and wantedto hear from me, and came with

(05:23):
warm hands and just wanted to showlove and appreciation. And for me,
it was such a surprise, becausein Israel, all we see is the
loud voices of the encampments shouting throughthe air and being violent. Of course,
that this is still happening and stilloccurring. It's just that I thankfully
ran into the people that weren't thatloud and weren't that violent, and all

(05:48):
the Jewish and Christians communities abroad thatI came along with and just wanted to
show love and affection from the otherside of the globe, And that was
amazing me. What do you wishthat these students that are in these encampments
knew about Israel and knew about thePalestinian conflict. I think that now in

(06:12):
the US, it's so confusing todifferentiate between what is just and what is
viral, and people are taking theirbehavioral and cultural patterns they've learned from years
ago, and they procrastinated it overthe Israeli Palestinian conflict. And I wish
that if they had just had enoughempathy to hear both sides, to understand

(06:38):
and hold those two truths together, and to appreciate our right of living and
my right of standing here and beingvulnerable and in pain, even though that
I'm in there and I opened thisas an oppressor man like the Oppressor.

(07:01):
I just found out my guest OFree Reiner, in addition to the event
in Denver that is sold out,is also going to be at Fort Collins
in June sixth at seven thirty atthe Lincoln Center. I just put a
link to that. They'll be showingthe movie Supernova seventh. I've got it
right here, Thursday, June sixth. Yeah, so it's Thursday, June

(07:23):
sixth, and I've got a linkon the blog now. It's at the
Lincoln Center in Magnolia Theater in FortCollins. O Free is one of the
survivors of that terrible day, andI wanted to just ask her a little
bit. I asked her before thebreak what she wanted young people to know
about Israel, and essentially that theoppressor narrative is not quite accurate. And

(07:44):
I think one of the ways toexplain that is O Free, what was
your daily life, I mean, were you were you worried about constant death
before October seventh? Tell me aboutyour life in Israel before October seventh versus
after October seventh. Absolutely before that. I will make a few corrections that

(08:07):
it's going to be a June seventh, the fourth Collins events. And I'll
continue by saying that for me asa person, the all I wanted since
I was very little is make peacethrough dialogue and baseless love as a as

(08:28):
a girl, as a young girl, when I was fourteen, I participated
in organization called Seats of Peace.I had dialogues with Israelis, Palestinians,
Trigidiorginians and Egyptians all about peace. All I wanted to do was to to
be the empathy woman and the barrierthat can that can change the narrative of

(08:48):
the oppressor. And but still everysingle day we had a terrorist attack on
buses, any public space was unsafefor us, and even from before October
seventh, but since October seventh,it seems like all of our life was
colored in gray. And I don'tthink that there is one family that's left

(09:11):
hole after October seventh. My entirefamily is now in a state of trauma,
and all the other families in Israelare still in the trauma trying to
hold themselves together. We are ina huge threat in our day to day's
life, especially now there are twothy five hundred acres at the north that

(09:35):
was burnt from Hisabella and all ofour terror all of our land now is
still feel unsafe in the borders, outside of the borders from rockets from terrorist
attack. You can feel it everywherenow in Israel is this way. And
still I was gonna say, isthis why? This is one of the

(10:01):
things that people need to understand.Do you believe that there can be a
peaceful two state solution if Hamas isgoing to be in charge of Gaza?
Unfortunately, and I will say itwith full heart and and as the as
the girl that believes in two statesolutions and peace among nations and my most

(10:22):
and my most optimistic self, Ican't have this radical empathy and reach my
hands to the one who's going toslap me in through to point a gun
over me. I can't come topeace to people that I was just a
moment ago. They're moving targets forme. It feels unsafe even to make
any sort of connection and dialogue withHamas is threats to our lives. And

(10:48):
when I say Palestinians, I'm inHamas, I don't. I can't say
Palestinians all in all, I knowthat this organization that now rules over the
Palestinians is just impossible to talk to, and we've experienced it for a long
time. Now, Overrey, Iwant to just I've got time for one

(11:09):
more question, and that is thisyou said, this is a very graphic
film and it tells the story usingthe bodycam village footage of the terrorist and
actual footage shot by the people thatwere victimized. Why is this important that
people see this movie? Well,I've experienced it from firsthand and that that's

(11:39):
nothing worse than being there. Butall we want to bring it to the
name through the US is to haveyou a little bit, a little fracture
of what's going on in Israel. You see around and use so many footages
and videos of the Palestinians that itseems like they're trying to sleep. Oh

(12:03):
she just froze again. She's onzoom, you guys, she just froze
again. Question in life now isto bring this knowledge into every people around
the States, and who has thecourage to come and confront this video.
As hard as it's going to be, I believe that afterwards gonna see me

(12:24):
and we'll have a conversation and you'llhear a little bit and you'll be a
little more calm to understand that thereare humans. After all, it's not
an action film. It's not ahorror film. It's people fighting over people.
And to have this entire process ofseeing the film and then talking to
a nova survivors, it's something elsethan just watching the film for me.

(12:45):
Oh yeah, O Free Reiner ismy guest. O Free, I do
want you to I don't know. You said the date for the one in
four Collins is the seventh, buton the website to sell tickets, they're
saying the sixth. So maybe justhave your people we'll double check that to
make sure those dates collide. OhFrey, I so appreciate you taking the
time with us today, and I'mso grateful that you are taking a month

(13:09):
out of your life to travel aroundthe United States just to make sure this
story is not forgotten. Thank youvery much. That's O Free Reiner.
Thank you so much, O Free, enjoy your time in Colorado. I
will thank you, and that isO Free Reiner.
