komer a video of, him and this was shared in
testimony being shown in a, documentary so called documentary That

better post election tabulation audit for our county and For.
Colorado so we had signed up to do a pilot

project with THE Eac Election Assistants commission IN dc and
with The secretary Of State's office Under Secretary, gessler where
we would work on the risk limiting audit concept and
try to get, it try to crack the nut because
it hadn't really been done in completion. Before and we
learned some great lessons through that, process including that the
voting system that we were on, before which was an
Older sequoia voting, system wouldn't enable us to do a

full risk limiting. Audit and so one of the Things
i'm talking With dominion WAS i let them know of
what changes we needed to the voting system so that
we could better audit it and provide the public greater
confidence and how these tabulation systems worked and functioned during

to Know. Eric after THAT i would see him at

he's going to be in jail, first it's laughable on its.

while because the death threats that were coming against, him

lindell had was the largest platform and the most, money

term and then you were unsuccessful in your re election,

Association but your experience goes back twenty five. Years, Yes
so when you look at, that what is.

colorado since there are so many allegations from for, Example Tina,

like Like joel and so forth About colorado in, particular
what sort of the cornerstone that from your twenty five
years of experience you look at and, say, okay if

This and, this you could tell that it's legit.

Election, Right, well, CERTAINLY i mean when you look at
the when you look at the chain of, custody the
access controls we have around these voting system, components the
way that we they're certified and tested before they ever
get to be used in an, election and then the
way that we audit the election through through the risk limiting.
Audit after the, fact a lot of counties do extra

auditing beyond the risk limiting audit to validate that the
results are accurate and. True and, so you, know when
people put out claims like, this it's always interesting because
they may, say, oh, well this part of the system is,
vulnerable but they never talk about the ways the mitigations
that we put in place to protect that vulnerability and.
Others they always take one one or two aspects cherry

pick on, that and they purposely leave out all of
the rest of the. Detail because the goal, here, right
is to scare, people, right they want political change and
this many of them are doing this for financial. Gain
so they'll keep saying even though they show no real
instances of, fraud they, say, well keep giving me money
because the big reveal is.

that you oversaw elections, for has now been back in the,

news not as much as in the news as in
the midst of a new conspiracy theory over this published
document called a cast vote record that had issues with.
Redactions i'll just say real quick That colorado law requires
you're supposed to keep the an anonymity of a secret, ballot,
Right and so that means when you release this cast
vote cast vote record that shows how voters.

The voter for really small precincts that may just have
a few people living, there you're supposed to just delete, those.
Right but something else, happened and this is from the

Can, Sure so A Repo county created a redacted cast
vote record and as a transparency document to be able
to if people want to go through and see they
can see. It now we do have to go back and,
redact as you, said that's under state law that we
have to do. THAT i think there were only something
like fifteen ballots that were, impacted so certainly out of
A i think there were over three in fifefty thousand

votes cast in A. Rapo fifteen ballots is basically. Nothing
it really does nothing demonstrable to the. File so A
Rappo county post they created that file On december. Tenth
now that date's important because twenty. Twenty, yeah it was
after the election was, certified and so they did, it
they sorted, it they put it up as they have
in years. Past they didn't know that there was either

an error made in the sorting process or some kind
of other error maybe made with a file transfer to
AN ftp site where the rows inside the file got.
Shuffled the overall vote totals for the candidates remained, intact
but the votes got shuffled between.

Precincts the rose got.

Shuffled nobody noticed, this although there were some people that
had pulled down the file and analyzed it and, said,
hey the way the vote trans are happening and Pro
trump Pro biden precincts aren't matching, up and so that's
a problem in. PARTICULAR a professor for, mea, yeah, WELL
i think there was a guy named Led solomon who's
using the mistaking cast but record in a lawsuit In.

Yeah so then four years goes by a professor From
yale's looking at the. File he contacts the county hit, says,
HEY i THINK i see an error. Here county looks
at it and, says, yep there's some kind of error.

because we know that there are bad actors there who

will take anything that's what we call, malinformation, right a
little bit of, truth and they create a lie on
it out of. It they, say, well look A rappaho
county changed this. File they were changing. Ballots we can't
trust the. Election it's not, auditible all of these things
when truth in, fact it's a transparency. File the original
cast vote record used for the audit and certification were not.

these other legal citations out saying counties can't, redact you're
not allowed to do, this all of their legal, interpretations

Question how do you assess how the district is been
performing in the last few years Under Superintendent Tracy.

DORLIN i think you look at it a couple different.
Ways certainly the most important is to focus on. Children
how are our kids? Doing how have they been? Progressing
AND i think you look at not only the, academics
but also how they're feeling about where they are in their,
schools and are the academics challenging enough and are they moving?

Forward and so talking about.
Speaker 11 (01:23:26):
The academic, side when you look at the measure of academic,
progress we can see the high growth and high proficiency
levels moving from reading this past year twenty three to twenty,
four from fifty four schools to seventy seven schools high,
growth high.

Proficiency that's.
Speaker 11 (01:23:41):
Exciting same thing for, math right we should be looking
at sixty eight schools high, growth high proficiency last. Year
we're at seventy nine this. Year so they're moving in
the right. Direction and last week at the board meeting
when we had a little bit of theater with the
teachers' union and the clapping and everybody being, upset you,
know you're not paying attention to, us you're not listening to.

Us they, left they got, up walked, out and they
were not there for the monitoring, report which was basically
showing how are kids, feeling what are their happy factors
in their, schools and those were all on the, rise all.
Improving so if we're focusing on what is best About Jefferson,
county our job is to educate.

Children and we want great teachers.
Speaker 11 (01:24:27):
And et, cetera but we really should be looking at
how the kids are doing in the school academically and
from a good feeling perspective about where they.
Speaker 5 (01:24:37):
Are so in terms of the, academics in terms of
the environment, overall you think the metrics are showing at
least some clear.
Speaker 11 (01:24:46):
Improvements, absolutely and that's very different from even what we
were seeing PRE, Covid, right so you, know we can
kind of, say, hey look what was happening PRE. Covid
we HIT, covid that was, horrific home came. Back you,
know two years, ago fully, right.

And we had a lot of. Challenges you, know there
was a lot of behavior. Issues there was a lot
of you, know not knowing how to do school. Anymore
we can.
Speaker 11 (01:25:12):
See that that has, shifted and that's taken a lot of,
effort not only from central of the, district but also
the teachers and also the people that are in those
classrooms and in those.

Buildings Former Jeffco school's board Member Susan miller joining us in.
Studio when we look at some of the downsides negatives
to what's, HAPPENING i think there are a couple glaring.
Things one is the financial, state And i'd love for
you to lay out some of this because they're in
a really absurdly rough.

Position and that's putting it mildly in JEFF coo right.

Now, Yeah so let's go back in.
Speaker 11 (01:25:47):
Time you, know when we had HAD, covid the federal
government said, hey we've got to pay attention to public,
schools and they sent out a lot of. Money and
so starting in twenty twenty, one we had a huge
inflow of federal dollars what we call eser. Dollars but
all that money was supposed to be spent by the
end of twenty, four, right so we were supposed to

be finishing that all. Up and What jeff co did
during that time is they took the, money.

They put it into certain features in the.
Speaker 11 (01:26:14):
Facilities they also put it into student, tutoring student. Academics
they invested in program. Curriculum for the first time they
actually had consistent programming for, reading math programs as, well
and so they invested both in the facility side where
they were allowed to as well as in the. Buildings,
well money is, fungible, right and so at that time
(01:26:34):
we also started to increase salaries and we started at
colas and we did steps and levels and it started
to become more and more, expensive but it was kind
of covered because of what money we had also received
from the federal.

Government there's nowhere to.
Speaker 11 (01:26:49):
Hide now we have declining enrollment and we've had that
over the past. Decade we have increasing, revenue increasing, Expenses
we have costs associated with. Programming now we want consistency
in the curriculums that they've been investing. In so there's
a lot of different components going on in terms of
cost and. Expenses and what's happened is over the past oh,
(01:27:12):
gosh you know three. Years let's, see in twenty four
to twenty, five we had a draw of deficit about
like a draw from our reserves right of about thirty
nine million.

Dollars this, year we're looking at another forty. Million next,
year we're looking at sixty. Million what does that?
Speaker 11 (01:27:26):
Mean that means we're starting to really get to the
marrow and we're going to be starting to impact. Children
and you, know you cannot afford a six and a
half percent cola and a two and a half percent
steps and levels because everybody also not only do they
get that, cola but everybody moves up, Right so it's.
Exponential and two, years these past two years, alone one
(01:27:47):
hundred million dollars in costs associated with you, know rising
rising staff level. Salaries SO i mean that's not. Sustainable
and they know that they've done. THAT i, mean they
acknowledge that they've done. That so to, me it's either you,
know we're robbing the treasury right and the like we

did In roman, times or it's just kind of, Malfeasance
like what how.

Do you do?
Speaker 5 (01:28:15):
That, YEAH i mean the state is it's really hard
to encapsulate it here on the air right now because
it is so detrimental in terms of what's happened fiscally
In jeffco. Schools AND i mean that that falls at
the feet of who most responsibly is that the problem
of folly of the, board is that a folly of the.
(01:28:35):
Superintendent everybody in? Leadership is that a tax revenue? Issue
how do you look at? IT i THINK i look
at it as.
Speaker 4 (01:28:44):
The board right.
Speaker 11 (01:28:45):
Now they all ran on making sure that teachers' union
and teachers should be well, compensated AND i believe teachers
should be extremely absolutely, well you want those people in
their classrooms that are doing great, things you want to
pay them. WELL i, think, however that rather than sitting
back and, saying when we had that first, deficit you
(01:29:06):
needed to put a plan in place about, hey how
are we going to come out of that?
Speaker 4 (01:29:10):
Deficit and instead there was no.
Speaker 11 (01:29:12):
Plan there was no directive by the, board which is
under government under policy, governance the board has to direct
the superintendent to do the work that they need the
superintendent and her team to. Do, so, hey what's that
band going to look? Like we need to address the.
Deficit that was never, directed that was never, Asked and
(01:29:35):
that to me is you, know combination of. None oh, Yeah,
now the board not understanding necessarily what their role and responsibility,
was but they should because they passed the budget and
there was a.
Speaker 4 (01:29:47):
Statement that was sent to the state that, says, hey
we have to come up with a. Plan it's, irresponsible
is what it.
Speaker 5 (01:29:54):
Is and one thing that was staggering in the theatrical
performance of the union last week at the board meeting
when they issued there talked about their vote of no
confidence and all of. That union leaders branded a proposed
cost of living increased by the district and their negotiations
as being only one and a half percent and plus
(01:30:17):
a two and a half percent bump in this step
in lane system that they.
Speaker 6 (01:30:20):
Have but they call that a pay.
Speaker 4 (01:30:22):
Cut and, yet as you've pointed, out.
Speaker 5 (01:30:25):
Like it's what fifty three percent increase in salaries raises
over the last five, years, Right but things are, expensive you,
See so therefore that amounts to a pay, cut which
only in government can you get away with that and
possibly end up with more.
Speaker 11 (01:30:42):
Well AND i would also say that's at the very
top end right of the, scales, right so it's not
a pay cut necessarily for the persons that's.
Speaker 4 (01:30:50):
In the middle of the. Scale, sure it's just that
at the top.
Speaker 11 (01:30:52):
Of the scale they have nowhere else to, go, Right
so in their calculation they can sit back and, say
that's that's kind of a cut for, Us, right we're
not getting exactly what everybody else, is but, well.

You're not getting an equivalent, increase that's not.
Speaker 11 (01:31:06):
Cut, WELL i don't, disagree but WHEN i kind of a, point,
right AND i kind of would liked a fifty five.

Percent, increase isn't that? Nice, yeah, yeah it would have been.

Nice, well it would Be it would be wonderful to
have that and then be able to, say, well you're
not giving me, More so now it's a pay cut
everybody who's dealing with higher egg prices than everything, else
Or i'm struggling to get by so many?

Time let's go back to two thousand and eight and
two thousand and nine when we had severe cuts as.

Well back, then, right that was the.

Recession everything, was you, know in, chaos and the financial
markets were, crazy et.

Cetera because of the housing.

Debacle they took cuts and said you, know we took
significant cuts back in two thousand and eight and two
thousand and, nine so did everybody, else and you, know
we continue to bring that up and it goes, Ciations
well we took cuts back, Then, well everybody took cuts back,
then you. Know and to be able to say to

my you, know retirement, plan well you need to make
that up for, me or to my employer now saying,
WELL i you KNOW i took cuts back in two
thousand and two thousand and. Nine you need to make that,
up even Though i've moved around and et. Cetera it's
it's not. Real and rather than going back and, saying,
well you need you promised, us you can never promise
a board can never promise to have another board increase,

salaries et. Cetera it kind of isn't that mentality? Again
will we deserve?

NOT i agree you deserve to be well, Paid but
the reality is you have declining, enrollment your revenues are somewhat.
Stagnant we're kind of in a weird place compared to
other school districts In, denver, right and and yet we're
asking to be increasing business is.

Doing they can't just say, well we're going to raise
that they have to they say salary freeze or maybe.
Speaker 4 (01:32:55):
FURLOUGHS i, mean look at the city Of.
Speaker 6 (01:32:57):
Denver they're in such a.

Bad shape now, too they're doing. Furloughs SO i, mean.

You, know the Jeff co is in this terrible these
terrible straits fit, financially and yet they're not understanding or
showing any sort Of and this is at least the.
Union remember the union bosses are the ones that are
engaging in these bargaining, negotiations but.

They represent less than a quarter of teachers in.
Speaker 11 (01:33:21):
The Gusty, yeah when you actually think about, it you,
know you had thirteen people making this vote of no
confidence letter and sent it out to the media and read,
it you know at the board. Meeting that's like zero
point what two percent of total teachers and their own teachers',
union you, know didn't even know that this was. Happening
and so think about. That you had thirteen people Put

jeffco into just a crazy.

Spiral.

Yeah, well and the real quick BEFORE i want to
talk about the union, specifically but the other big, thing
the stuff that has been identified by Jeff co kids
first and so, forth is trusted adult issues with policy
there and with all of the DIFFERENT i, mean we've
had in the last couple of, years something in the
order of like thirty sex abuse scandals or things of that.

Nature the, most, uh the one that's caught the most,
attention of, course was the Former chief Of, Schools David,
wise who took his own life After New year's after
being investigated as an investigation was underway for child pornography
and so.

Forth but you have these deep concerns.

And it's really, that in, part a culture That jeffco
has had for many years since even Before Tracy dorlin is,
superintendent seems to have just gotten, worse especially.

With some of these policies that they've been instituting in. Approaches,
WELL i.

Think you, know you as you, noted we had some
challenges Before tracy right that you know took us back
To jason and in class previous. Exactly thank you for,
clarification and so in many, WAYS i think we have
to talk about the.

Culture within Jeff. Co and you know how.
Speaker 11 (01:35:01):
How things have been reported or not, reported, right some
things were just kind of, ignored or people, removed people
went to a different, school or they removed someplace, else
or they left.

And they went to another school.
Speaker 11 (01:35:14):
DISTRICT i think because there is light being shined on this,
ISSUE i think there's more.

Light AND i know that When tracy came in there
was a couple instances where it was kind of, like
oh my, GOSH i CAN'T i can't believe this is
the case we need to put in the Mandatory.

Much we need to put those trainings in, Place but
that means you have to train leaders at your high,
schools middle, schools elementary, schools, principals, counselors and then you
have to keep training them Over and what does it
mean to be a mandatory?

Know that person down the, hall they just they're just
nice to. Kids, well let's think about.

DON'T i think teachers of course have the best, intentions
but there are.

Attorney general back In Rhode, island has, said you, know
where children, are there too shall be people that are
potentially wanted to pray on. Them and SO i think
we have to be very conscious of, that AND i
think constantly training and explaining to people what it actually
is and making people understand that some relationships are not.
Appropriate you don't get to text your children after, school

you don't get to text people. NonStop you don't get
to give them, gifts you don't get to give them,
well and.

That's that's the problem of this trusted adult mindset that
as even the legislature trying to push things along those.
Lines but you have these, policies these cultural, customs and
different activities and things that you're doing that go beyond
just trying to institutionalize trust when trust needs to be.

Earned, well that has always been my, point AND i
think that that's goes back to our parents and our
guardians to talk with your children about who.

Should we identify as a trusted.
Speaker 11 (01:37:06):
Adult it's not just the teacher down the hall WHO
i just met In september and that person as a trusted.
Speaker 4 (01:37:12):
Adult, no that comes to the parents.

To sit down and say these what do these are
the trusted? Adults we think about what do you think about, son?

Daughter you?

Know who you who would you want to? Identify that's
the conversation that should really be.

Then there's also the natural LIKE i had with teachers
where you develop. That, OKAY i trust you because you've shown,
It you've demonstrated it to, me and that takes time

teachers unions that are trying to pawn off responsibility or

of consternation from the public about what's happening in school.

THIS i think that you know you you look to
where the money, goes, RIGHT i, mean follow the follow the,
money follow the. Money and when you have people that
have received substantial amounts of money from, organizations you can
certainly see where there might be some conflict of. Interest
and SO i think we need to be very cognizant

of where dollars come from when people are running for
office and pay, attention AND i think that that's the
roosters or whatever chickens, haves or, well whatever that analogy.
Is BUT i, think you, know we have to be
cognizant of. That and AS i lay out in my,
column it's like three hundred eighty three hundred eighty thousand

dollars that have been given to just the union backboard
members between Jeff co And, denver and that follow the
money is absolutely essential and ask the question who are

the trial of the, century where he has been sued

coomer in a massive defamation, suit a significant case with
implications that are wide because If Mike lindell loses and
he has to pay millions of dollars in, damages, well
that will send a message across the country about how

you can approach individuals Like Eric komer and accuse them
of rigging elections or what have, you with the kinds
of consequences that can come. About coomer was the main
guy so far to. Testify they're on day four today
AND i was There tuesday And, wednesday And i'll break

down some of the basics of the. Trial and then
one of the people who testify is the head of
The Colorado County Clerks, Association Matt, crane and he will
join us live in studio at the top of the
next hour one pm and give us his take and
takeaways from day three of the, trial which included a

couple hours of testimony From. Crane but they all began
On monday with jury. Selection Then Eric, komer again the
FORMER vp Of, dominion Testified tuesday after opening statements from both,
sides and his testimony dragged on until just after lunch,

yesterday long extensive from the main testimony to cross examination to,
redirect and then they brought Out Matt crane and then
the guy who sort of started it all with regards
To Eric komer and claims That Eric kuomer was involved
in rigging. Elections Joe, oltman podcaster on the far, right

was supposed to start testifying yesterday, afternoon but there was
something that happened when he was going to be going.
UP i think it has to do with he wanted
legal count and they had to sort something out with.
THAT i think he sort of managed to punt his
way into, today AND i think he is testifying. Now

my understanding was late this morning was when he was
going to be up, there and he back In november
of twenty, twenty just after the, election went on his,
program which was Called Conservative daily at the, time and
talked about how this Guy Eric kumer was a vice
president Of dominion on the.

Technical, side.

And all these things that he had said on his
private social, media mostly private social, media that were quite,
frankly and this was revealed in testimony as, well and
he was asked about. It kumer was very vulgar posts
About trump And trumps supporters and so, forth.

And so there was this.

Effort to, say, well look at this, Guy Eric, kumer
he's a villain that puts the faith on the notion
that the twenty twenty election was stolen From Donald. Trump
so The coltman put that out, there And oltman has
been sued separately as. Well he put that out there

and a few months later it ends up With Eric
komer a video of, him and this was shared in
testimony being shown in a, documentary so called documentary That
Mike lindell put out.

IN i think early twenty, ONE i think In february.

That Mentioned coomer and it just snort a snowball from.
There and So komer has said he had to go into,
hiding bounce from friend to family house in different, places
he had to get a really expensive security. SYSTEM i
think six or eight months after this all went, down
he lost his job With, dominion which originally they refused
his resignation and then months later he ended. Up it

was basically like had no choice but to leave given
all of the, controversy and he's had a ton of
death threats that he's gotten in. More and this is
all because of different people that talked about. It and
the allegation is from his legal team That Mike lindell

did things that meet that technical legal standard of, defamation
and it is a jury, trial so it will be
up to the jury as to what happens. Here the majority,
male IF i counted, RIGHT i think it was five
or six men and three women If i'm remembering the,

number or however that broke. Down but it's interesting to
see it in. Action i've never watched a trial like
this in. Person it is not as nearly as, exciting
let me tell, you, folks it is not nearly as
exciting as something i'd, say you, know law and order

or suits or some other legal, drama because there's so.
Much it takes a long. Time it goes on and
on because you've got to build up a lot of
foundation and context and.

Now one of the big things, though that was pretty
fascinating is That Mike lindell On monday And tuesday was
sending out text messages during the, trial which was expressly
forbidden for anything to do with the trial inside the
courtroom like, that particularly From, lindell AS i understood, It

but there were strict rules for everybody in the. Courtroom for,
example those of us in the media couldn't tweet from
the courtroom about what was going. On you couldn't live
tweet or live, posts so he had to do it
during a break or if you left for a, bit
what have. You, Well lindell went on multiple, programs including

some podcasts and so forth during this time Of monday And,
tuesday and in one, instance it was during the lunch
break On tuesday he was on His LINDELL tv.

as he was doing what he often does and what

Ways certainly the most important is to focus on. Children
how are our kids? Doing how have they been? Progressing
AND i think you look at not only the, academics
but also how they're feeling about where they are in their,
schools and are the academics challenging enough and are they moving?

Forward and so talking about.

The academic, side when you look at the measure of academic,
progress we can see the high growth and high proficiency
levels moving from reading this past year twenty three to twenty,
four from fifty four schools to seventy seven schools high,

Proficiency that's.

Exciting same thing for, math right we should be looking
at sixty eight schools high, growth high proficiency last. Year
we're at seventy nine this. Year so they're moving in
the right. Direction and last week at the board meeting
when we had a little bit of theater with the
teachers' union and the clapping and everybody being, upset you,
know you're not paying attention to, us you're not listening to.

Us they, left they got, up walked, out and they
were not there for the monitoring, report which was basically
showing how are kids, feeling what are their happy factors
in their, schools and those were all on the, rise all.
Improving so if we're focusing on what is best About Jefferson,
county our job is to educate.

Children and we want great teachers.

And et, cetera but we really should be looking at
how the kids are doing in the school academically and
from a good feeling perspective about where they.

the environment, overall you think the metrics are showing at
least some clear.

Improvements, absolutely and that's very different from even what we
were seeing PRE, Covid, right so you, know we can
kind of, say, hey look what was happening PRE. Covid
we HIT, covid that was, horrific home came. Back you,
know two years, ago fully, right.

And we had a lot of. Challenges you, know there
was a lot of behavior. Issues there was a lot
of you, know not knowing how to do school. Anymore
we can.

See that that has, shifted and that's taken a lot of,
effort not only from central of the, district but also
the teachers and also the people that are in those
classrooms and in those.

to what's, HAPPENING i think there are a couple glaring.
Things one is the financial, state And i'd love for
you to lay out some of this because they're in
a really absurdly rough.

Now, Yeah so let's go back in.

Time you, know when we had HAD, covid the federal
government said, hey we've got to pay attention to public,
schools and they sent out a lot of. Money and
so starting in twenty twenty, one we had a huge
inflow of federal dollars what we call eser. Dollars but
all that money was supposed to be spent by the
end of twenty, four, right so we were supposed to

be finishing that all. Up and What jeff co did
during that time is they took the, money.

They put it into certain features in the.

Facilities they also put it into student, tutoring student. Academics
they invested in program. Curriculum for the first time they
actually had consistent programming for, reading math programs as, well
and so they invested both in the facility side where
they were allowed to as well as in the. Buildings,
well money is, fungible, right and so at that time

we also started to increase salaries and we started at
colas and we did steps and levels and it started
to become more and more, expensive but it was kind
of covered because of what money we had also received
from the federal.

Government there's nowhere to.

Hide now we have declining enrollment and we've had that
over the past. Decade we have increasing, revenue increasing, Expenses
we have costs associated with. Programming now we want consistency
in the curriculums that they've been investing. In so there's
a lot of different components going on in terms of
cost and. Expenses and what's happened is over the past oh,

gosh you know three. Years let's, see in twenty four
to twenty, five we had a draw of deficit about
like a draw from our reserves right of about thirty
nine million.

Dollars this, year we're looking at another forty. Million next,
year we're looking at sixty. Million what does that?

Mean that means we're starting to really get to the
marrow and we're going to be starting to impact. Children
and you, know you cannot afford a six and a
half percent cola and a two and a half percent
steps and levels because everybody also not only do they
get that, cola but everybody moves up, Right so it's.
Exponential and two, years these past two years, alone one

hundred million dollars in costs associated with you, know rising
rising staff level. Salaries SO i mean that's not. Sustainable
and they know that they've done. THAT i, mean they
acknowledge that they've done. That so to, me it's either you,
know we're robbing the treasury right and the like we

did In roman, times or it's just kind of, Malfeasance
like what how.

That, YEAH i mean the state is it's really hard
to encapsulate it here on the air right now because

of folly of the, board is that a folly of the.

Superintendent everybody in? Leadership is that a tax revenue? Issue
how do you look at? IT i THINK i look
at it as.

Now they all ran on making sure that teachers' union
and teachers should be well, compensated AND i believe teachers
should be extremely absolutely, well you want those people in
their classrooms that are doing great, things you want to
pay them. WELL i, think, however that rather than sitting
back and, saying when we had that first, deficit you

needed to put a plan in place about, hey how
are we going to come out of that?

Deficit and instead there was no.

Plan there was no directive by the, board which is
under government under policy, governance the board has to direct
the superintendent to do the work that they need the
superintendent and her team to. Do, so, hey what's that
band going to look? Like we need to address the.
Deficit that was never, directed that was never, Asked and

that to me is you, know combination of. None oh, Yeah,
now the board not understanding necessarily what their role and responsibility,
was but they should because they passed the budget and
there was a.

Statement that was sent to the state that, says, hey
we have to come up with a. Plan it's, irresponsible
is what it.

Is and one thing that was staggering in the theatrical
performance of the union last week at the board meeting
when they issued there talked about their vote of no
confidence and all of. That union leaders branded a proposed
cost of living increased by the district and their negotiations
as being only one and a half percent and plus

a two and a half percent bump in this step
in lane system that they.

Have but they call that a pay.

Of the scale they have nowhere else to, go, Right
so in their calculation they can sit back and, say
that's that's kind of a cut for, Us, right we're
not getting exactly what everybody else, is but, well.

You're not getting an equivalent, increase that's not.

Cut, WELL i don't, disagree but WHEN i kind of a, point,
right AND i kind of would liked a fifty five.

Percent, increase isn't that? Nice, yeah, yeah it would have been.

Nice, well it would Be it would be wonderful to
have that and then be able to, say, well you're
not giving me, More so now it's a pay cut
everybody who's dealing with higher egg prices than everything, else
Or i'm struggling to get by so many?

two thousand and nine when we had severe cuts as.

Recession everything, was you, know in, chaos and the financial
markets were, crazy et.

Cetera because of the housing.
Speaker 11 (01:31:45):
Debacle they took cuts and said you, know we took
significant cuts back in two thousand and eight and two
thousand and, nine so did everybody, else and you, know
we continue to bring that up and it goes, Ciations
well we took cuts back, Then, well everybody took cuts back,
then you. Know and to be able to say to

my you, know retirement, plan well you need to make
that up for, me or to my employer now saying,
WELL i you KNOW i took cuts back in two
thousand and two thousand and. Nine you need to make that,
up even Though i've moved around and et. Cetera it's
it's not. Real and rather than going back and, saying,
well you need you promised, us you can never promise
a board can never promise to have another board increase,

salaries et. Cetera it kind of isn't that mentality? Again
will we deserve?

NOT i agree you deserve to be well, Paid but
the reality is you have declining, enrollment your revenues are somewhat.
Stagnant we're kind of in a weird place compared to
other school districts In, denver, right and and yet we're
asking to be increasing business is.

Doing they can't just say, well we're going to raise
that they have to they say salary freeze or maybe.
Speaker 4 (01:32:55):
FURLOUGHS i, mean look at the city Of.
Speaker 6 (01:32:57):
Denver they're in such a.
Speaker 4 (01:32:58):
Bad shape now, too they're doing. Furloughs SO i, mean.
Speaker 5 (01:33:02):
You, know the Jeff co is in this terrible these
terrible straits fit, financially and yet they're not understanding or
showing any sort Of and this is at least the.
Union remember the union bosses are the ones that are
engaging in these bargaining, negotiations but.

They represent less than a quarter of teachers in.
Speaker 11 (01:33:21):
The Gusty, yeah when you actually think about, it you,
know you had thirteen people making this vote of no
confidence letter and sent it out to the media and read,
it you know at the board. Meeting that's like zero
point what two percent of total teachers and their own teachers',
union you, know didn't even know that this was. Happening
and so think about. That you had thirteen people Put

jeffco into just a crazy.

Spiral.
Speaker 5 (01:33:45):
Yeah, well and the real quick BEFORE i want to
talk about the union, specifically but the other big, thing
the stuff that has been identified by Jeff co kids
first and so, forth is trusted adult issues with policy
there and with all of the DIFFERENT i, mean we've
had in the last couple of, years something in the
order of like thirty sex abuse scandals or things of that.

Nature the, most, uh the one that's caught the most,
attention of, course was the Former chief Of, Schools David,
wise who took his own life After New year's after
being investigated as an investigation was underway for child pornography
and so.

Forth but you have these deep concerns.

And it's really, that in, part a culture That jeffco
has had for many years since even Before Tracy dorlin is,
superintendent seems to have just gotten, worse especially.

With some of these policies that they've been instituting in. Approaches,
WELL i.

Think you, know you as you, noted we had some
challenges Before tracy right that you know took us back
To jason and in class previous. Exactly thank you for,
clarification and so in many, WAYS i think we have
to talk about the.

Culture within Jeff. Co and you know how.
Speaker 11 (01:35:01):
How things have been reported or not, reported, right some
things were just kind of, ignored or people, removed people
went to a different, school or they removed someplace, else
or they left.

And they went to another school.
Speaker 11 (01:35:14):
DISTRICT i think because there is light being shined on this,
ISSUE i think there's more.
Speaker 4 (01:35:23):
Items coming to.
Speaker 11 (01:35:24):
Light AND i know that When tracy came in there
was a couple instances where it was kind of, like
oh my, GOSH i CAN'T i can't believe this is
the case we need to put in the Mandatory.

Not responder was the mandatory, Order thank you very.
Speaker 11 (01:35:42):
Much we need to put those trainings in, Place but
that means you have to train leaders at your high,
schools middle, schools elementary, schools, principals, counselors and then you
have to keep training them Over and what does it
mean to be a mandatory?

Know that person down the, hall they just they're just
nice to. Kids, well let's think about.

DON'T i think teachers of course have the best, intentions
but there are.

Some as my brother in, law who was an.

Attorney general back In Rhode, island has, said you, know
where children, are there too shall be people that are
potentially wanted to pray on. Them and SO i think
we have to be very conscious of, that AND i
think constantly training and explaining to people what it actually
is and making people understand that some relationships are not.
Appropriate you don't get to text your children after, school

you don't get to text people. NonStop you don't get
to give them, gifts you don't get to give them,
well and.
Speaker 5 (01:36:37):
That's that's the problem of this trusted adult mindset that
as even the legislature trying to push things along those.
Lines but you have these, policies these cultural, customs and
different activities and things that you're doing that go beyond
just trying to institutionalize trust when trust needs to be.
Speaker 11 (01:36:55):
Earned, well that has always been my, point AND i
think that that's goes back to our parents and our
guardians to talk with your children about who.
Speaker 4 (01:37:04):
Should we identify as a trusted.
Speaker 11 (01:37:06):
Adult it's not just the teacher down the hall WHO
i just met In september and that person as a trusted.
Speaker 4 (01:37:12):
Adult, no that comes to the parents.

To sit down and say these what do these are
the trusted? Adults we think about what do you think about, son?

Daughter you?

Know who you who would you want to? Identify that's
the conversation that should really be.

Then there's also the natural LIKE i had with teachers
where you develop. That, OKAY i trust you because you've shown,
It you've demonstrated it to, me and that takes time
and a lot of. Efforts Susan, miller our, guest former

SOWN i think in Jeff go and In, denver so
many of these problems are at the feet of the
teachers unions that are trying to pawn off responsibility or
to scapegoat people at a moment when there's a lot
of consternation from the public about what's happening in school.

Districts how do you look at?
Speaker 11 (01:38:10):
THIS i think that you know you you look to
where the money, goes, RIGHT i, mean follow the follow the,
money follow the. Money and when you have people that
have received substantial amounts of money from, organizations you can
certainly see where there might be some conflict of. Interest
and SO i think we need to be very cognizant

of where dollars come from when people are running for
office and pay, attention AND i think that that's the
roosters or whatever chickens, haves or, well whatever that analogy.
Is BUT i, think you, know we have to be
cognizant of. That and AS i lay out in my,
column it's like three hundred eighty three hundred eighty thousand

dollars that have been given to just the union backboard
members between Jeff co And, denver and that follow the
money is absolutely essential and ask the question who are
