(00:00):
You know, it's our responsibility tobe informed citizens, and I'm very very
pleased that the citizens of the fifthCongressional District informed themselves before voting and gave
their vote to one mister Jeff Crank, who now joins me to talk about
his victory. Jeff. First off, congratulations, Mandy, thank you.
I appreciate it. It's it wascertainly a wonderful night for us on Tuesday
(00:21):
and for all the volunteers and supportersthat we had. But I got to
thank you too. I mean youyou supported me and endorsed me early on,
and that was very very helpful tohave. Well, I'm glad that
my endorsement didn't kill your candidacy, because that's usually what happens. So I'm
happy. Yeah, but I didn'tactually, I didn't actually endorse you.
(00:42):
I just said if I was there, I would vote for Jeff Crank.
But that's maybe maybe the endorsement iswhen I when I'm giving out. So
so, Jeff, you, Ifeel like the last few times we've been
on we spent a lot of timeresponding to nonsensical attacks that were levied by
your opponent and by default, theColorado GOP. I want to ask you
(01:03):
one party base question, then wecan talk about the bigger picture for CD
five. But you know you wereat the epicenter, if you will,
of the division in the Republican Party, not because of anything you did,
except you decided to run against DaveWilliams. How do you reach out to
(01:26):
the people who did support Dave Williams, who who may be bought into some
of the attack ads. How doyou bring those people in and get them
to vote for you in the fall. Well, first of all, you
unify the party, and we're doingthat already. I've spent most of yesterday
and today reaching out to other candidateswho ran and lost or ran and won,
(01:49):
and to those who lost, Ireached out to them and said,
look, I ran in two thousandand six and I lost, and I
know how it feels. And Igot to tell you, I alwaysppreciated the
people who did reach out to meafter my losses, and you know,
just talk to him about the importanceof coming on board. And actually,
we're having a unity rally in OpasoCounty today at five point thirty that we've
(02:12):
helped organize, and I have personallycalled all of the candidates or emailed a
few of them and invited them tocome. And I'm really pleased actually with
the number of people who are coming, some of whom maybe didn't support me
in the primary. But so that'sthe first thing. But the second thing
is, look, I just leadthrough what I say. I'm a stand
(02:35):
up person. I don't I'm kindof no nonsense. I tell you where
I am. I told folks Isupported Donald Trump. I do support him
going I'm going to do everything Ican to help get in elected. I
mean, just being myself. Peoplewill soon enough realize that any of the
nonsense about oh, this guy's arhino or this or that, they're going
(02:57):
to realize that that was just hyperbole. I want to ask you, have
you heard from a Texter just said, has has Williams conceded the race to
you? And have you spoken tohim directly? I have not spoken to
him directly. He did issue astatement on election night that that basically said,
(03:19):
uh, you know, it wasn'tabout him, it was about other
themes. But no, I haven'theard from him. But look, we're
going to move on. I mean, it's up to each of us individually.
And I don't as my parents alwaystaught me, I don't worry about
what other people do. I haveto be concerned about what I do.
I've reached out Lauren Bobert and ILauren endorsed my opponent in the race.
(03:42):
With Lauren Bobert and I spoke yesterday. I had a great conversation. We're
going to move forward in our relationshipbecause we're going to be serving together in
Congress. It looks like, andyou know, I've reached out to Gabe
Evans in the eighth district and heand I spoke, and Jeff heard down
in the third. I'm moving forwardand helping to build a United Republican Party,
(04:04):
and if people want to join us, they can. If they don't,
you know, I don't have muchuse for those kind of diversions.
Jeff, I agree so wholeheartedly. And I've had conversations with our mutual friend
Kelly Maher about this very thing. And I feel like this election cycle and
the resounding victory that you had, especially against Dave Williams, who's been very
(04:30):
divisive for the Republican Party, itfeels like, and I don't want to
be too optimistic here, but itfeels a little like morning in Colorado a
little bit where there's reason for optimismfor the party. Right, Is that
how you feel now? I do? I really do. And I got
to tell you, you know,Mandy, I was, as I said,
I was reaching out to Canadas whodidn't support me in the primary.
(04:51):
But they've been very open congratulated me. I congratulated them. Many of them
are coming to the Unity rally thisafternoon. We're going to move forward.
And I mean, that's how youdo this. Just if you want to
stop people bickering and fighting amongst Republicans, the best way to do it is
to stop fighting amongst Republicans. Andif somebody wants to take a shot at
(05:15):
you, you know, when Ilost in two thousand and six, I
always thought to myself, Man,it's hard sometimes it's hard to be gracious.
How gracious is it to be whenyou win? It shouldn't be hard
at all. Yeah, Stop, you know, put the shovel down,
stop digging, and just be graciousto people. And you know, if
we do that enough, we'll putall of this stuff behind us. And
(05:39):
I do, I'm pretty darned optimisticabout where it is. I'm anxious to
go to CD eight and help gaveEvans get elected and take that seat back
from the Democrats. And I'm learnanxious to go help Jeff Herd at CB
three as well. Well. Bothof those guys are going to need your
help. They are facing a farmore competitive race. Not to poo poo
the work that you have to doto all the voters that you need in
(06:00):
CD five, which is, youknow, traditionally a very Republican district,
but redistricting and honestly, the compositionof Colorado Springs has changed a little bit,
so you still have your work todo there, but it is going
to be nice to move forward.Hopefully we can bring everybody who feels a
little rubbed the wrong way by thisprimary along, because, as I've said,
(06:24):
I did not support Lauren Bert Bobertin the sixth or in the fourth.
I was very disappointed that depth Floradidn't, you know, get across
the finish line. But that beingsaid, I'm supporting Lauren Bobert in the
fourth and I think that every Republicanneeds to just say, look, maybe
we didn't all get our way,but if we're going to write things and
keep things in the majority in theHouse of Representatives, all of this stuff
(06:46):
needs to be put aside and weall need to work together. Well.
And look, I mean Lauren Bobert'sopponent as a Democrat, will vote for
Hakun Jeffries for speaker. Yeah, that's what you want, and vote for
Lauren Bobert's opponent. If you don'twant that, you vote for Lauren bober
I mean, this is this issimple math that I agree. Jeff Crank
is my guest. He is nowthe Republican nominee for the fifth Congressional District.
(07:11):
Jeff, we'll be talking to youagain many times before November. But
I guess you are going to probablytake a couple of breads and then hit
the road in the fifth again tocontinue winning votes. You got it.
I got to go catch some fishin Alaska for a few days. Well,
have done with that, That's right, that'll be Yeah. I'll have
a lot of fun up there fora couple of days, and I'm right
back getting it hard. Let mejust say this about fishing in Alaska.
(07:33):
You know, it's very tempting topay the money to have your fish cleaned
and shipped it. You will paylike fifty bucks a pound to do that.
Just remember that Okay, it's cheaperat the grocery store, even if
you shop at Whole Foods, thanit is to have your fish packed and
shipped home. Don't ask me howI know. Okay, I just just
(07:54):
let that. Just there. Yougo, Jeff, I appreciate it.
Have fun in Alaska. Thank you. Mandy,
