Those are the headlines on the blogAtmandy's blog dot com. Joining me today.
A Rod is off today or he'sat training game. I don't even
know where a Rod is right now. He's the man about town. But
Coover is in here keeping me comfortableand keeping me company as we work our

(02:57):
way through the day. Coover, have you ever did you watch the Olympics
this weekend? I did not.You did not not any at all?
Any at all? Are you jokingme? You? Oh? Okay,
I forgive you. That is aThat is the best possible excuse. If

(03:19):
it's a lie, you chose well. But if it's not a lie,
good for you. What did youdo with your wife this weekend? We
went to see Kenny Chesney powerful youvery nice, very nice. That's a
good one. Then got a hoteland then hung out on Sunday. Very
nice. Okay, you are absolvedfrom not watching the Olympics. I love
the Olympics, love love, loveit. And I watched the opening ceremony

(03:43):
because we're going to talk about thatpart of the opening ceremonies. Have you
heard about that part of the openingceremonies, Cooper, Do you hear about
that part? I did hear aboutthat. Yes, everybody's heard about it,
because for you know, this isone of those things and if you
in the listening audience have somehow beenliving under a rock for two days and
you did not hear about that part. So I just want to say this

(04:05):
about the opening ceremonies. I thoughtthat they were spectacular, right, I
just they were so French. Everythingabout them was over the top and almost
grotesque in a way that grotesque doesn'tmean horrible. I know that sounds crazy,

(04:26):
but you just have to go withme on that. It was creative.
The athletes coming down the scene onboats, so that was cool.
Instead of just having them all walkin and then over every bridge. They
have all this entertainment. They havea catwalk to represent fashion and all of
these things, and there's seventy milliondrag queens, Like if you needed a
drag queen on that night. Sorryabout your luck. They're all in Paris

(04:46):
in the opening ceremonies. You know, it was it was almost like a
cartoon. It was so over thetop and garish in some ways. But
then I love the boats. Ithought the boats were really cool. So
that part the part that I'm talkingabout that everyone is talking about. So
imagine on one of these bridges, they have this long table that then turned

(05:08):
into a runway, and they havethis whole mishmash of drag queens and you
know, people just oddly dressed. And then in the middle is a DJ
who I believe is known as BethButch. I think that's her DJ name,
DJ Beth Butch. Look that upfor me, coover Google DJ Beth

(05:28):
Butch. I just like saying that, actually, DJ Beth Butch. It's
like a tongue twister from theater class. Anyway. So she's in the middle,
very heavy set woman, and she'sgot this lior of crown going over
the top. And it was anobvious take on The Last Supper by Leonardo
da Vinci, representing the night thatChrist met with his apostles for the last

(05:51):
time and told them that one ofthem would betray him, and we all
know how that worked out. SoChristian people took offense. And I understand
why they took offense, and theytook offense, not just because it in
and of itself was offensive, butit would have never occurred to this director

(06:15):
of this performance, so very overthe top fellow, his last name is
Jolly. It would have never occurredto him to somehow incorporate a scene from
the Koran or anything from the Koran, because that would not have been stood
for. And Christians are rightly angryto say, look, you know what,
when anybody picks on a faith thesedays, it's Christianity or Judaism,
which are intricately tied by history. And that's a great and valid point one

(06:41):
hundred percent. But I've did youfind is that DJ Beth Butch, Barbara
Barbara Butch. How did oh Iget it? Barbara Butch Barbara Bush Ha.
That's actually very clever because that's Ibecause she is nothing like Barbara Bush

(07:03):
at all. I mean, theymight have similar personality traits. I don't
know that. Being said, theOlympics had to do something and it had
to be offensive to Christians. ButI want to throw this out here as
a maybe thing to think about forChristians for a non Christian person, and

(07:23):
this man is obviously a non Christianperson because he didn't understand what he was
doing and how offensive it could be. How could you not know that?
You would say, how could younot know that was going to be offensive?
Well, if you live in acompletely secular world and you don't know
any people of faith, and youknow nothing about the tenets of faith,
and you see things like this beingmade fun of in other mediums like South

(07:46):
Park or other places without any pushbackto speak of, you assume it's fair
game. And I'm not making excuses. I think it was just in really
dull. It was a dumb choice, and it was in poor taste.
So I'm not making an excuse forhim. I'm trying to explain how these
things happen because the way I myrelationship with God is such that it is

(08:11):
not our job to judge other people. It is our job as Christians to
pray for them to gain wisdom andknowledge and maybe gain God in their hearts
so they'll understand what they've done iswrong, and it is our job to
then, you know, forgive. We're not supposed to sit in judgment now.
Don't get me wrong, voicing yourdispleasure is perfectly fine. That's perfectly

(08:35):
fine. I don't want to sayyou have to sit there and take it.
But I've seen some really nasty stuffonline, like not nice stuff at
all. And ultimately, this iswhere Christianity leads by examples. This is
this is where we, you know, lead by example and say, look,
we understand you obviously don't know whythis is offensive, but we'd love

(08:56):
the chance to explain it to you. We'd love that you to explain how
important this scene in the life ofJesus is and how which magnitude this has.
So you know, I'm just saying, throwing that out there, is
the Quran fair game. No,of course not. And that's the second
point I want to make. Thefact that you don't have to worry about
getting murdered for doing that, forme, indicates that certain tenets of Christianity

(09:22):
are better than certain tenets of Islam. That not only say, you can't
say or depict Mohammed in any way, even in a flattering way. I
mean, you don't normally see portraitsof Muhammed, it's any image. If
you do that, we're going tocome kill you. I mean, that's
a tenant issue there that needs tobe addressed in my view, the fact

(09:43):
that we, you know, people, we don't go kill people for doing
stuff like that. That's not howwe roll. We try to take the
high road. That being said,I agree again venting your spleen about it
is fine, but please don't penalizethe athletes by saying, oh, I'm
I'm going to watch the Olympics nowbecause of this. You have young people
who've worked their entire lives to havethis opportunity. Do not penalize them.

(10:07):
Support our athletes because, oh mygoodness, this first weekend was absolutely outstanding,
Kathy. Do you have an updateyet? Yeah, we do,
Mandy. This fire west of Lovelandis spreading super quickly. We have four
hundred and eighty acres already burning, and we really just found out about this
fifteen minutes ago. We wanted tolet everyone know in Larimer County that there

(10:28):
are mandatory evacuations from Drake to thedamn Store, including Storm and Palisade Mountains.
But again, most of the concernabout homes being light are on Alexander
Mountain. We'll keep you up todo. We know what direction this is
moving or is it spreading even becausethe wind doesn't seem to be a huge
I mean down here, we can'ttell. But is do we know where
it's spreading in which direction? I'mjust trying to give people who might live

(10:50):
in the five to ten mile vicinity, you know what I'm saying. I've
had very helpful and very useful information. We are now being told that this
fire is spread east and west,so it's heading down towards Loveland and then
also back towards Drake. Okay,so it's spreading east and west, which
based on my memory of that area, would mean really the forested areas west

(11:11):
of Loveland. This is going tobe hard to get under control. With
the weather forecast we have for thenext week, very very scary because it's
so hot, so dry, commnitiesare solow. Yep. All right,
Kathy, We'll have updates throughout theshow, so keep it right here.
Throughout the day. We will keepyou updated on anything, and if there
is anything an emergency that needs tobe talked about, we will absolutely bring

(11:31):
that to you right away. Ifyou have friends and family in Loveland,
you may want to give him aring and say, this fire just broke
out in case you don't know ifthey're working or whatever, and let them
know that they need to be payingattention to this. So this is this
is not This could be very badit hopefully it will not be. We
shall see. We shall see.Now coming up on the show today,

(11:54):
I've got several guests. My friendDick Wadhams is going to be on the
show. He just wrote a column. It was It's ironic. It was
published today after a big nothing burgerhappened over the weekend. You ared here
on Friday, if you were listeningto the show, you heard me talk
about the fact that a judge blockedthe meeting that was called by Republicans to
talk about the oulster of Dave Williams, the absolutely terrible chairman of the Colorado

(12:18):
GOP. They were supposed to meeton Saturday, and the judge blocked it.
On Friday. They met anyway, but not to have a meeting.
They had a rally where everyone gottogether and kind of vented their spleen.
If you don't follow if you don'tfollow Rocky Mountain Voice on Twitter, you

(12:39):
may have missed them live tweeting themeeting as it was happening. So Rocky
Mountain Voice again covering everything right leaningin Colorado and doing a very good job.
I followed along through them, andit seems that they may have the
votes to get Dave Williams out.And that was just the people that actually
showed up to a meeting that sortof got called off and then didn't.

(13:03):
Now, also over the weekend,Dick Wadhams wrote this story column for the
Denver Gazette published today about it,and he said, well, bye today,
you know this will have happened. No, nothing's happened. The clown
show continues. So Dick is goingto join me in the two o'clock hour
to talk about that and what thenext step is and just what an absolute
Can we just have a minute onwhat a complete dumpster fire the Colorado Republican

(13:28):
Party is right now? If youread Dick's column, you will read that
in order to sort of meet thebylaws when give it a petition asking for
a meeting to address whether or notto recall Dave Williams, the Central Command
geniuses came up with this idea andwe talked about it on the show.

(13:50):
They were going to call a meetingin the middle of the week, in
the middle of the day in Bayfield, six hours away from Denver, and
they were going to convene that meetingand then they were going to immediately getabble
it out for another meeting October thirty. First. This was their idea of
meeting the rules. It gets evenbetter, though, They didn't meet at
a Denny's or even a shonees.Did you have show theees out here is

(14:15):
shown? He's the thing out west? Was it in Kansas? Okay,
we'll take it in any case,They didn't even meet at the McDonald's and
have some coffee and a biscuit whilehammering this out. They met under a
bridge. Yeah, you heard meright. The alleged leaders of the Colorado

(14:35):
Party, in order to skirt theirown bylaws, met outside under a bridge
like a group of homeless people whocouldn't pay anything to find a space to
gabble in their fake meeting and thenimmediately gabble it out again. And this
is who we're supposed to leave incharge. These are the people that want

(14:58):
us to believe that they are capableof leading any party at the only party
I trust him with right now isthe Daughter Party. Okay, that's it,
because if anything describes cannibalism, it'sthe way that this quote leadership has
destroyed and divided the Republican Party inColorado and it will never rite itself until

(15:20):
they're gone. Now that's my littletake on that. So Dick will be
joining me at two o'clock and we'lltalk more about that. I'm a super
interesting guest. I can't wait tocome up. Unusual Instruments Day is coming
on July thirty first, in justabout one o'clock. I'm gonna talk to
sophiely Likens. She is the generalmanager of Aura's Neighborhood Music School and she

(15:43):
makes her own instruments out of elkbones. Yeah, so we're gonna hear
elk bones and everything else. Sowe talk about a schizophrenic show, and
then we're gonna talk to Kim Smikefrom the Daily Caller about the opening ceremonies
in the Olympics. Now, Iask Kooper if you'd watch the Olympics,
and he said no, And Igave you a pass because you were celebrating

(16:04):
your anniversary, which is a fineand good reason to miss anything. But
that being said, I watched theheck out of the Olympics for you.
Okay, I watched cross country theI don't know how the equestrian sport of
cross country or the ridings you grantpuddles and they're jumping over jumps that look
like little houses and stuff. Ilove that stuff. Why don't we have

(16:26):
more of that? Excepting the Olympics. I watched women's rugby last night,
and I'm just gonna say it,like, if any of these women ever
came towards me in a dark alley, I am running the hell of the
other direction. There are some scarywomen on that rugby team. In the
best possible way. I mean that, though you want your rugby players to
be scary looking. Watched a littlejudo, watched lots of gymnastics. Simone

(16:52):
Biles just is ridiculous, absolutely ridiculousand so incredibly good. Oh and I
want to talk this real quick. And I just saw this on Facebook and
I actually shared it because I likedit so much. Now, when I'm
watching the opening ceremonies and I hearwhat ad the announcers say and carrying the
torch for the American team Snoop DOGG, and I was like what, And

(17:22):
there was a funny meme that wasset around based on the shape of the
torch what it looked like. Theywere like, oh, they picked the
perfect person to do this, becauseit did look like a giant joint.
They were very weird looking torches.I didn't like the torches, but I
liked everything else. But I justsaw this on Facebook. I don't remember
when we as a nation decided thatSnoop Dogg would be our national mascot.
Yet here we are, and Iam here for it. So after I

(17:45):
realized that Snoop Dogg was carrying thetorch, I was confused, completely confused.
And then I see Snoop Dogg comingin and I'm like, great,
Okay. Then I see Snoop beginningto cover the various sports and stuff,
and this guy, he is you, he is me, he is all
of us, the same way wewould all be nerded out at the Olympics

(18:07):
with just getting to be there andcheer for our athletes. He is everyone,
and I love it. I lovesnoops coverage of the Olympic Games.
It's so entertaining and so different. And if there's anything in the United States
of America today that exemplifies the entireconcept of American exceptionalism. It is the

(18:30):
rise of Calvin Broadis from Long Beach, where he was born, where he
got into some trouble in his teenyears before he went to prison for possession
of cocaine, came out, gotdiscovered by doctor Dre, made a bunch
of great music, and now he'salso in addition to being a rapper,

(18:52):
he is also a co star withMartha Stewart and now the darling of the
twenty twenty fours. If that's notthe American dream lived out in real life,
I mean imagine, could you imagineif you've gone and found little seven
year old Snoop, You like,Snoop, guess what you're gonna get to
do when you're all grown up?And Snoop would be like, what eyo?

(19:15):
Maybe throwing a yo there. Idon't know, I don't know what
seven year old Snoop talk like.I'm just guessing here, And you'd say
you are going to get to coverthe Olympics for NBC and be the star
on television. He would have laughedand laughed, But yet here we are.
What I find interesting is how manypeople are upset about that, upset
about the character issues that they perceiveSnoop Dogg to have yet are probably voting

(19:38):
for Donald Trump. Snoop's and entertainer. You don't have to love the man,
you just got to appreciate what hebrings to the games, which is
everything. I just said. Ijust saw this, but I have to
play this for you if I'm notmistaken, and I could be mistaken.

(19:59):
This it might be from the whitewomen for Harris Zoom meeting. I'm not
quite sure where there's the sourced.I saw it earlier, but I'm going
rogue here. It's not on theblog. I'll put it on a blog
after I'm done today. But Ijust listened to it again on the break.
And we are in a really difficultsituation right now. I have you've

(20:22):
seen the numbers on the political leaningsof young men versus the political leanings of
young women. Young men are movingincreasingly right, and young women are turning
into little tools for the government andare basically like little Marxists. And so
they're having this meeting. It's allwhite women on this Zoom call, and
I want to play for you whatpasses for high brow discussion in this in

(20:48):
this meeting that we're having Ariel Qodar, affectionately known as missus Frazzle to her
combined audience of over one point fivemillion followers, is here to help gentle
parents us through the selection. Thankyou, hi, everybody. I am
so honored to speak today. Iam like shaking to just be among such

(21:10):
incredible company. Now I'm gonna stopin there just to let you know.
She looks exactly like she sounds. She has naturally brown hair, and the
only reason I tell you that isbecause she hasn't had a roots done in
a really long time. So shehas about two and a half inches of
brown roots and then blonde hair hangingstraight down on either side of her face.
Very muted makeup. She's not unattractive. She's she's not you know,

(21:34):
you wouldn't say, wow, she'ssmoking hot. She's not unattractive though very
uh. She's perfectly fine looking.Nothing remarkable. But here I'll let her
talk. We are here because asif you were here earlier, you've heard
BIPOC women have tapped us in aswhite women BYPOC meaning people of color,

(21:55):
and I did indigenous people as well, So that's bypop. You gotta get
in with the lno, okay, she can go on men to step up,
listen and get involved the selection season. This is a really important time
and we all need to use ourvoices and influence for the greater good.
No matter who you are, youare all influence. Lots of hands gestures,
lots of palms out like all ofyou, all of that. There's

(22:18):
a lot of that going on.You know what I'm talking about, fluencer
in some way. So tonight I'mgoing to share some dos and don't for
getting involved in politics online and navigatingthe toxicity that comes with it, and
you aler alert. As much asthe toxicity can come from the outside,
it can come from us too.Oh no, So first, don't isolate
yourself. We can do our bestwork when we're in community together like we

(22:42):
are tonight, because the toxic feelssmaller when we support each other. But
don't make it about yourself. Neveras white women, we need to use
our privilege make positive changes. Ifyou find yourself talking over or speaking for
bipop individuals or god forbid correcting them, oh my god, good beat.

(23:03):
And instead we can put our listeningears that you're listening her, So do
learn from and amplify the voices ofthose who have been historically marginalized and use
the privilege you have in order topush for systemic change. As white people,
we have a lot to learn andunlearn. So do check your blind

(23:23):
spots. You are responsible for youralgorithm, believe it or not, do
check your blind spots, you guys, women, this what is happening with
that? If I ever needed totry and explain to someone why my entire
life I have been considered a guy'sgirl, I've always had a ton of

(23:45):
guy friends. I've always been verycomfortable hanging out in a room full of
dudes. I have always been rightin, far better and far more completely
than I ever fit in with agroup full of women. Now, don't
get me wrong, there are manymany women in my life that I get
along with famously in a door. But this kind of thing, He's serious,
you guys, and oh my god, God forbid correct them? What

(24:11):
if they're wrong? It's just likewhat so ask let me just review what
we just heard here. As whitewomen, we are supposed to put on
our listening ears. And just soyou know, when you say listening ears,
you're supposed to flatten your hands andthen tap your listening ears each time
you say a word listening ears Justlike that, you tap your ears twice

(24:33):
to let everybody know you have yourlistening ears on. And you will not
be so horrifically awful as to correctsomeone if they happen to be a person
of color, even if they arestunningly wrong in everything they are saying.
Oh, my goodness, gracious. And at the same time, I think
you have all these young men thatare like, well, that's insane.
I don't want to be part ofthat political philosophy. Who wants to be

(24:56):
around that? Dame? Oh,oh, my goodness, you guys,
My goodness, Kathy's coming in withthe latest update. This is going to
be like this throughout the show andthroughout the day. So if you are
near the Loveland fire or are worriedabout being affected by the Loveland fire,
we're going to have that coverage foryou throughout the day. And thank you.

(25:17):
Now I don't have to talk aboutwhat I was talking about anymore.
Go right ahead, Kathy, what'sgoing on? Hey, Manny, This
is a situation that just keeps gettingworse by the minute. The Alexander Mountain
Fire in Larimer County is now estimatedto be at eight hundred acres. Larimer
County Emergency Services, Loveland Fire Rescue, Air Resources, several other agencies are
all en route to try and fightthis fire on a very dry day.

(25:41):
If you are in the evacuation area, that is the area from Drake to
the Damn Road, evacuation centers havebeen set up at Namaquah Elementary School and
at the Estes Park Events Complex andEstes Park. We know that in every
wildfire situation like this, there's justa huge concern for your animals, so

(26:02):
we will try and get any informationwe have about where you could evacuate things
like horses. But don't stay inyour location because you're worried about your animal,
figure out how to get them outof it. And let's be real,
Kathy, that is how people diein wildfires all the time for that
very reason. And it's horrible ifyou have to make that choice. But
please choose on the safety of yourselfand your family and do the best you

(26:25):
can. And we're just getting information. And now evacuation location for animals is
the ranch in Loveland. Everybody knowswhere that is. Ride off of I
twenty five. They have a fairgroundsarea there, so take your animals if
you need to to the ranch ifyou're being evacuated from that Larimer County fire
west of Loveland. Can I alsomake a suggestion. I know that people

(26:45):
with livestock and horses often know otherpeople in other areas. If you know
someone in the Loveland area, perhapscall them and say, do you need
me to bring a trailer? Youknow? Do you need me? Do
you need help to get your animalsout? This is the time to rally
the community and get the kind ofhelp up there that can get get these
animals out of the way before anythingbad happens. Colorado is known for that.
Mandy and we all do really helpeach other out in these very serious

(27:07):
situations. It's really important though, not to cause another problem for firefighter right,
So just please, if you getto a checkpoint, cooperate. And
just a note for all of youwho don't realize a sheriff's department has ultimate
authority in these situations that have thesheriff's department tells you you cannot go down
a road, you cannot go downa road right, and they can't arrest

(27:29):
you if you try to, youknow, ignore that order. And they're
doing it because they don't want youto die. I mean, let's just
call it what it is. Thingscan be replaced, you cannot, absolutely
and again those mandatory evacuations. Draketo the damn store along Highway thirty four.
Highway thirty four is closed in thisarea. Okay, Kathy will have
those updates throughout the day. Itsounds like this is going to be an

(27:51):
ongoing story for the foreseeable future, unfortunately, so we will keep you updated
about that fire in Loveland. Youknow, she was just talking about people
pulling together. One of my actually, i'll tell you this after we get
back because it's one of my favoritestories of the Olympics so far. Is
also one of the most unexpected storiesof someone coming forward to sponsor a team

(28:14):
that needed some financial help, andit's just the weirdest but best combination ever.
We'll do that next to talk aboutanother rapper connected to the Olympics,
and this one I love this storyand it took a very poignant turn a
couple of days ago. So youmay not know who rapper Flava Flave is,

(28:36):
and uh, if you don't,shame on you, shame shame.
I mean Flave has been around forI mean forever, and Flavor is not
Flavor as his friend's column, ashis white friend's column. Mister Flave,

(28:57):
he hang on with second. I'mtrying to pull up his whole history here.
Flavor. Flav is part of PublicEnemy. That's how he came to,
you know, be very fame. But since then he's been like this
reality star. He's been on multiplereality shows. He's known for wearing a

(29:17):
giant clock as a necklace around hisneck, and that's important for the context
of this story. Talk about anotherguy, how did you get to the
Olympics. Well, not only didhe get to the Olympics, he is
a sponsor of the women's water poloteam. Now I know what you're thinking,
kid from Compton water polo. Actuallyhe's from New York. I think

(29:41):
water polo. That makes perfect sense, Rapper, Yeah, perfect sense.
Except it doesn't. Except his managershowed him an Instagram post that was done
by one of the members of thewater polo team, and she kind of

(30:02):
put it out there like, look, we're all pursuing this dream, but
most of us have to work multiplejobs too, maybe three jobs. Maggie
Steffan's puts us on on Instagram. Most of us have to work two or
three jobs just to live this dream, and they need sponsorships. And Flav
sees this and he's like, youknow what, I'm a girl dad.
I want to support this, andhe donated sum of money. I don't

(30:22):
know how much. But he wasalso named chief hype man for the women's
water polo team, so he hasbeen all over the place hyping up water
polo, which I think is sorandom and so great at the same time.
Now, this was a genius pairingby the women's water polo team,
because do you really think we wouldhave been having a conversation about the women's

(30:45):
water polo team if it were notfor Flavor Flave? Of course not.
Flave is a guy who brings allthe attention, and the water polo team,
I guess is really good. Theydidn't play yet, I don't think.
I can't believe. I can't believe. Some of the sports that you
don't even think about existing until theOlympics come around. Water polo is one

(31:07):
of them. Where do we havea what is water polo pool called?
Does it have a name? Isit like a water polo den? What
you know? Do you just callit the pool? That's not exciting.
Does it seem like it's they needlike a clubhouse name? But do people
play water polo? And Denver? We obviously have a very strong swimming tradition
because we have some great swimmers,Olympic swimmers that have come from Colorado.

(31:32):
So we have a swimming tradition. But do we have a water polo tradition.
I've only met a few dudes whohave played water polo when I was
flying. They have thighs like they'regiant, they're tree trunk thighs because they're
constantly using them to hold themselves upin the water. But that's one of
those sports. Any I'm curious ifyou guys have noticed this, if you

(31:52):
have seen any sports that you're like, wow, what about that sport?
When the Olympics aren't going around TexasAt five six six nine, oh,
Jason Kelsey is hanging out with thewomen's rugby team per Instagram. And as
I said before, some of thosewomen's rugby players, they they look meaan.

(32:12):
I mean, I'm sure they're lovely, but if I were playing against
our women's rugby team, I'd belike, no, I am not playing
that, So no, So youguys, I'm so mad. As I
was doing my commercial for Cruising Tourtalking about our fantastic trip to Japan.

(32:35):
There's one city that we're going to. We're going to multiple cities, We're
going all over the place, butone city, Kagoshima, that I've been
mispronouncing, and however I pronounce it, it's wrong, however, and if
somebody corrected me on it, andI'm like, okay, so it is
like Hiroshima Kagoshima with the emphasis onthe second salable. Oh, saying foreign

(32:57):
land names is really hard sometimes.I still want you to has to go
with me. Check it out atmandyconnalltrip dot com. But thank you,
Texter, you are correct. Theycall it a Marco. No, there's
no Marco in water Polo. Isee what you did there, and I'm
not falling for it. When weget back. Unusual Instruments Day is right
around the corner. We're gonna becelebrating it earlier than normal. I mean,

(33:21):
don't we celebrate it every day onJuly thirty first, We're gonna celebrate
early right after this. The MandyConnell Show is sponsored by Belle and Pollock,
Accident and Injury lawyers. No,it's Mandy Connell, Mandy Conka,
ninem got way, You're want tostay the nicety the great Bandy Connell sad

(33:51):
Babe, Welcome, Welcome, Welcometo the second hour of the show.
And I bet you did not knowthat in just two days you are expected
to sell brate unusual instruments day joiningme now to talk about it. She
is the GM of Neighborhood Music Schoolin Aurora. Sophie tell me it's likens.
Is it like the it should be? But it's lichens like kitchens.

(34:13):
Dagnam it. I went back andforth and I was like, no,
it's got to be like No,it's lichens. Sophie Lychins, Welcome to
the show. First of all, thank you. Tell me a little bit
about Aurora's Neighborhood Music School. Yeah. So, we are a music school
located in the Stanley Marketplace. Wedo private music lessons for students of all
ages, children and adults, mostlyfairly tame things like piano and guitar,

(34:36):
but we have a few stranger thingsor slightly more uncommon things harp and obo
and phone, and I also sortof how people end up playing the harp.
I think you have to like bedead. Like at some point in
your childhood you see a harp andyou go, that's gonna be my instrument.
I don't think it's like everybody whoplays the French horn. You ask
them and they're like, everything elsewas taken in band class. That's how
you end up playing the French horn. Am I wrong? No, thank

(34:59):
you. I picked up French hoornfor exactly that reason. That's why everybody
plays the French word. But withharp it feels very intentional. So definitely,
what kind of person comes in andsays, I want to learn how
to play the harp exactly what you'repicturing. Yeah, we Our harp teacher
is Rebecca Moritzky, who is afairly prominent harpist in the area. She
plays with the Denver phil and someother vice and Yeah, students come in

(35:20):
and they know they want to playthe harp. That's that's when they come
in. That's what they're asking for. That's a bold choice. I mean,
that's not something you can schlep onthe light rail to go to and
from your lesson. So let's getinto what you're here for today. You
I like the way you said wehave some unusual instruments. Is it really
we or is it just you?Sophie has some unusual instruments, it's me.
Okay, you're the one the way, yes, but what draws you

(35:45):
too? And I've got to takea picture of you and all your little
instruments. We're about to talk abouthere. What drew you to oddities in
the musical world. I think Iwas just a weird kid, you know,
sort of kids who want to playharp. No, they want to
play harp, right. I sawa thing like accordions and went, oh
my god, that that's I playedthe trombone growing up for the same reason.

(36:05):
Like I just I was always intriguedby sort of the more unusual things
I saw. You were like,no French hord for me, so we're
going big French one was too hardfor me. Okay, yeah, there
you go. So you do havean accordion here. But this is a
very What is the difference between thisvery simple octagon or is that sectagon?
Oh gosh, that mine is asexicon. So it's a sex sex sexigon.

(36:30):
I don't know what that is andit just has very basic buttons on
the side. How does this comparewith what the giant accordions with the keyboards
down the side. Is that adifferent instrument or is it just a smaller
version different instrument? But they're verysimilar. So that what you're describing as
a piano accordion, okay, apiano keys on right, This is a
concertina which functions in a very similarway. You've got this bellows in the

(36:53):
middle that pumps air through reeds andyou get sound similar actually to harmonica,
but the air you're creating that erain a harmonica where the bellows is doing
it on this Ah, well, they do sound a little similar. Now
that you said that, I'm like, wait a minute, they do sound
a little similar. Fame family,Now that's just kind of odd. Okay,
But a weird al fan would thinkthat's not odd at all. You've

(37:14):
got a her, you've got anaccordion. What are let's go down here
to the Is that a cigar boxukulele? This is a cigar box ukulele.
A friend of mine made this forme as a trade for an instrument
that I made her. So it'sit's just got two strings on it,
made of a cigar box, andshe made this beautiful fritboard. Can you
play a few little things for me. So I can hear hear a two

(37:36):
string cigar box ukulele. So howoften do you whip out the cigar store
ukulele? There not as often asyou think, you know, I have
it all over the place. It'svery, very very nice. And then
you also make instruments out of bones. I do. In fact, I

(37:58):
make a play an instrument called therhythm bones, which is a percussion instrument,
one of the more one of theoldest instruments that we have records of.
This looks a little like you're aboutto play the spoons. Very similar
concept, because that's the same wayyou hold spoons when you play them.
My people are hillbilly's, so Iknow how it's one of the few musical

(38:19):
instruments that I can actually play.Yeah, because I'm not musically inclined.
So is this similar concept? Similarconcept percussive? Oh, those are cool?
So you get the two bones together. A lot of the times,
the way we play spoons in theStates, you're hitting them against something on
your leg, yes, where theseare more sympathetic motions, so they're moving
with your arm and with your wrist. Though in other traditions of a friend

(38:42):
in Greece. Spoons they are playedmore like bones are here right, there's
you know, different ways of doingthem. Those made of these are elk
ribs actually, and did you didyou carve on those? I did.
It's a technique called scrimshaw. Youetra design in with something sharp and then
smear ink over the top. Verynice, very nice. Now do kids
get to play these instruments? AndI have to see you play the accordion?

(39:04):
I can't let you leave here withoutplaying the accordion? Do kids get
to play these instruments as well?At the neighborhood music school? I usually
these are my personal instruments that I'llbring them in. I usually mess around
with them at the front desk andkids ask and I let them kind of
fiddle and get us right. I'mdetermined to make an army of rhythmbones players.
Parents are not thrilled about that yet, but we'll get them on board
eventually. I would say, that'slike those annoying toys that you buy other

(39:25):
people's children that have a siren orsomething like that, or the clackers.
Do you when you were a kids? Did they have you there on two
strings and you just do this.It goes quick uick, and then you
hit yourself in the head with them. Oh yeah, yeah, that's the
way. They're designed, real bigon banging things together to make noise.
Like we we love percussion. Percussion, We're built for it. So I
mean anything that makes fun noise.Uh, go ahead and pick up your

(39:46):
accordion. Now, when you're pushingthese little buttons on the side, what
are you actually doing? So itis a couple of different things happening at
the same time. So you're pushingdown a button and then you're also pushing
the bellows and pulling the bellows rightout because if you just push a button,
nothing happens. You need to havethat airflow going through. And this
is what I call an anglo concertina. And the way this one functions is

(40:08):
each button has two notes, soif you push, you get one note
and if you pull, you geta different note. So there's a lot
of things happening when you're playing thisinstrument. They have to kind of keep
track of. This is why I'mnot good at music, because anything that
requires your brain to talk to yourhead, I'm not going to be good

(40:31):
at that. I mean to talkto my hands. It doesn't translate from
here to my fingertips. It justdoesn't work. The nice thing is,
eventually it really comes down to musclememory at the end of the day,
right after you get over that initialhurdle. I turn my brain off if
I think about the mechanics of whatI'm doing, They're not gonna happen.
Are you going to What do youdo to celebrate unusual instruments day? We

(40:52):
mostly have been doing it on asocial media sense, so we've put up
a few videos of weird instruments, including the bones. I will definitely have
weird instruments at the desk this weekto show with students as well. I
think that you guys need to featureprominently. I'm just telling you how to
do your social media, even thoughyou didn't ask. I think you should
prominently feature the young man who's beenan Internet sensation since he first posted his

(41:13):
version of the Final Countdown on theKazuki Lele. Oh my gosh, that
video is a garbox shut up.I think I have to go look at
He's a multifaceted weird instrument guy.I feel like he's probably the patron saint.
I would just call it like thereyou go Sophie Lichens like Kitchens.
She's the general manager of Neighborhood MusicSchool. You can find out more if

(41:37):
you want to enroll your kids.I like I said, I've said it
multiple times. I've taken music lessonsoff and on my entire life. And
my last teacher was like, youknow what, precious, this just isn't
for you. It's not it's not. I got a pity C in college.
I'm positive it was a pityc becausewhen she looked at me, is
like, you just tried so hardyou put yeah, I can't. It

(41:58):
just says it's not my Thingu's thepoint. So, you know, we're
pretty big at Neighborhood about like, obviously, students becoming very good musicians rights
a great thing, but not everystudent wants to go on and do this
in college. You know, mostof us just want to have something to
do at the end of the day, something fulfilling, and so our goal
really is to foster that love ofmusic rather than make it this very like,
oh, you have to be good, you have to memorize everything and

(42:20):
be perfect. You know, itdepends on what students are after, but
there are tremendous positive associations for youngpeople. I don't know if the associations
remain as we get older and ourbrain sort of gets more fixed. But
for young people, for students especially, there are so many positive associations between
music and math, music and otherparts of how their brain develops music and
all of these different pathways that aredeveloped specifically through that hand to brain coordination,

(42:45):
which I completely lack. So obviouslythat part of my brain just dipped
out on that day and was like, yeah, sorry about your luck.
That's fine, Yeah, that isfine. Oh geez wait, nope,
forgot what hours And Sophia, Ireally appreciate you coming buy Is there anything
else you want to let our audienceknow? Just if you are interested in
music lessons, come check us outa neighborhood Musicstanley dot com and we'll get

(43:07):
you going. All right, that'sSophie Lychins. Thank you so much,
Sophie, thank you. I amgoing to talk about some random stuff right
now that is on the blog thatI want to get to. But one
of them is ridiculous, and thisis We're in the silly season of politics
and I'm trying to get Drew Sextonon the show to talk about his ongoing

(43:30):
thread of how the media is sortof rewriting history right now around some of
the things that have been said ordone by the new nominee for the Democratic
ticket. But this next story isnot even that. It's just beyond ridiculous,
but it's kind of cool at thesame time. I think this story

(43:51):
backfires tremendously. So there is aformer Yale Law school candidate who was very
very close to mister JD. Vanceand he is she is He is transder
transgender. Her name is Sophie. She dresses and Sophie, excuse me,

(44:15):
Sophia and Nelson, but she verymuch looks like a man. So she
is a trans man and was afriend of Jade Vance's at for at Yale
Law School. And this friend cameforward to share about ninety emails and text
messages mostly through twenty fourteen through twentyseventeen with The New York Times. And

(44:37):
the emails add to an existing bodyof evidence showing a mister Vance pivoted from
a strong opponent of former President DonaldJ. Trump do his running mate now.
They also provide an insight into culturalwillingness by mister Vance to accept his
classmates Sophia and Nelson who is transgender, and guys, that's the biggest part

(44:59):
of the story. And I'm gonnashow that this is why this backfired,
because they put this out because thenarrative that, oh my god, JD.
Evans hated Donald Trump a few yearsago. It'said all these terrible things
about him, and now he wantsto be on the same ticket. The
problem with that particular narrative is thatJD. Vance's evolution on Donald Trump has

(45:20):
been well documented well before he wasbeing considered to be vice president, So
it's not like it was just apolitically expedient trans you know, Oh my
gosh, I hate the guy.No, I love the guy because he
wants me to be vice president. That's not how it happened. And what's
interesting is we're always told that whenwhen someone does something untoward and then they
come out and say, oh,I'm so sorry, I've learned from it,

(45:44):
we're supposed to accept that and allowpeople to grow, but only if
they're on the left. If you'reon the right, you're never given the
opportunity to change your mind, nomatter how well you explain that rationale.
And JD. Vance has been prettyclear. He said, Look, I
was wrong. I may have alot of assumptions that turned out not to

(46:04):
be true. So he's already kindof cleared that up, so that part
of the story is a nothing burger. But I want to share with you
some of the text messages that thisperson thought to share between her and Jdvans
him and JD Vance about police. This is after the George Floyd riots and

(46:29):
mister Nelson raised the idea of requiringthat police officers wear body cameras, and
Jdvance responded with this, By theway, if these are text messages or
emails, Oh no, this isan email anyways, just my thoughts.
He says, I'm pretty proud ofwhat Cincinnati has done, but don't know
anything about the tying grant funding tobody cameras. I love the body camera

(46:49):
movement and anything that puts cops backin the mindset of service and protection instead
of control and coercion. I hatethe police. Given the number of negative
experiences I've had in the past fewyears, I can't imagine what a black
guy goes through. Now. Isa lot going to be made by him
saying I hate the police? Sure, but I think the Shorthand for I

(47:12):
hate police who abuse their authority, and I'd love to know more about his
negative experiences. But does this makejad Vance look like a terrible person.
I don't think it does. Ithink it makes him look and or talk
to talk about something very negative thathappened. Now we know in the George
Floyd situation, things were not exactlyas they have been portrayed, especially about

(47:38):
George Floyd himself and why the policewere there in the first place. But
nonetheless a lot of people were awakenedto the fact that this stuff is happening.
You know, it's weird to thinkto yourself, Well, of course
things like this happen, and peopledo things wrong and they don't always get
it right, but that happens soinfrequently we don't really have to worry about

(47:59):
it. But then all of asudden, we're seeing all of this happen
in live in real time on cellphone cameras and deserved or not. And
I wouldn't say someone deserves to die. I'm not gonna say that in a
situation unless they've been adjudicated by atrial and a jury of their peers.
But if this is supposed to makeJD. Vance look like a horrible person.

(48:22):
I don't think it does. MaybeI'm wrong, and I consider myself
extremely pro law enforcement, but Idon't have a lot of tolerance for bad
cops. I don't have a lotof tolerance for people who have used their
authority in any job. I don'tcare if you're the flight attendant who I
feel like abused their authority over TerrellDavis. I don't like it when it's

(48:45):
a police officer who escalated a situationwith Elijah McClain that ended up in his
death completely unnecessarily. But I alsounderstand that police officers make split second life
or death decisions, and that lifeor death is their own, and I
cannot fault them for that. Soit's I can see both sides of this

(49:07):
coin, and I don't think anyof that is outrageous. One of the
ones I really want to read ismister Vance wrote an email after his book
Hill Billy Elogy came out where hereferred to so Sophia Nelson, who is
a trans man, as a lesbian. So he later sent a note to

(49:30):
his friend that said this, Irecognize now that this may not acly accurately
reflect how you think of yourself, and for that, I'm really sorry.
Of course, there's nothing negative aboutsaid progressive, just that I considered you
a great friend, But I didn'twant you to read it and feel totally
caught off guard. The meta pointof mentioning you and others in our small
group was that none of us reallyfit into a single theme. I hope

(49:52):
you recognize that the description came froma place of ignorance when I first started
writing years ago. I hope you'renot offended, but if you are,
I'm sorry. What a terrible personhe is to worry about hurting the feelings
of his friend by inartfully describing themin a way that perhaps they would prefer
he not described them, though itmight be accurate at the time. Horrible

(50:14):
guy, I mean, you seewhy this is like the worst gotcha ever?
Now, there are things he saidabout Trump that are really not very
kind. He did call him amorally reprehensible human being. But again,
this was in October of twenty sixteen, a time when JD. Vance has
already cop to the fact that hedidn't like Trump at all, not even
a little bit he said about blackpeople, and specifically, mister Vance shared

(50:44):
a piece on implicit Bias that hewrote for The New York Times following Hillary
Clinton's ill fated basket of Deplorable's comment. Thanking Nelson in the email for helping
inform his thinking on developing the essay, he said, my sense is is
that we have different roles to play. I'm trying to very hard to deal
with people in a way that persuadesthem and changes the conversation. That necessarily

(51:05):
means I won't always say what's onmy mind, but often think that's a
good thing. Sometimes what's on mymind is in how I feel later,
And honestly, I think that thebest way to help the race issue is
to try to persuade. The morewhite people feel like voting for Trump,
the more Black people will suffer.I really believe that now what happened to
the demographic of black people in thecountry during a Donald Trump presidency. Their

(51:30):
wages were the highest they've been maybeever. I don't know. I'm not
going to engage in the kind ofhype perber believe that Donald Trump does.
Their unemployment rate was the lowest ina very long time, if not ever,
and historically Black college has got acommitment from the government that they'd ever
been able to get before. Soif you want to look at that as
one kind of block, one kindof cohesive block of black people, which

(51:52):
is, you know, how peoplebreak people into demographics, then the Trump
yeers were pretty good for black people. Nobody was put back in Shaine that
I'm aware of as far as Iknow. I mean, maybe I missed
the big people back in chain storyback then. I don't recall it.
But this is just a bunch ofJD Vance trying to be kind to his

(52:14):
trans man friend. Ugh, whata disaster. What a disaster, Mandy.
We liked the movie He'll Billy Elogyreally good. JD went through hell.
I will tell you this, Ithink the book. I love the
movie. I want to be clearabout that. I thought the movie was
fantastic. The book was so muchbetter because in the book he does more

(52:35):
of a psychological deep dive on thepeople around him from him his years growing
up. And I think he doesa really good job, and that mentality
still permeates that part of the country, even among people who are very successful.
It's just a fascinating study of thoseI know you say you can't play

(52:57):
an instrument, but if you evertried the banjo. I think it's an
instrument that's very easy to learn andplay a few basic songs. That sounds
good, Steve, Steve, that'sthe exact opposite of the banjo, is
actually a very difficult percussion instrument tolearn how to play. But thank you,
no, no, Mandy, I'vealways wanted to learn how to play
the hurdy gurdy. I was aviolinist for years, but have fallen out

(53:20):
of practice. Okay, I don'tknow what a hurdy gurdy is, Cooper,
do you know what a hurdy gurdyis? Never heard of that name.
Now I'm gonna have to look upa hurdy gurdy on the uh,
find out what a hurdy gurdy is? Hang on, hurdy gurdy? Oh?
Is that the Oh? What isthat? It's a string instrument to

(53:43):
produces sound by a hand crank turn. Oh oh, I have never seen
this before in my life. Wow, that looks super complicated. Yeah,
zero percent chance I'm doing that.Okay, when we get back, we
have got let's see, we've gotlet me check my calendar case myth two,

(54:07):
we got tick onaeums. Okay,we've got plenty of time to go
through a bunch of stuff on theblog, because I do have a ton
of stuff, not all Olympics related, but some of it is. And
I'm not sorry if you're not watchingthe Olympics. I'm watching enough for both
of us. A rocket fired fromHesbola controlled Lebanon landed in a soccer field

(54:28):
and killed at least twelve children andteenagers. And unlike Hamas, Israel does
not hide military targets at things likesoccer fields in schools and nursery schools.
So this was just a rocket thatlanded in the middle of a group of
kids playing soccer and now they're dead. Now what's interesting about this is that

(54:51):
Hesba Lah, who by the way, is firing rockets into this area every
day, and they have been sinceOctober seventh. They have never denied before
when their rockets killed a soldier fromthe IDF or four civilians or whatever.
But now that they killed twelve kids, they're like, oh, that wouldn't

(55:12):
us, except it was. Weall know it was. But when they
killed children, they realized that isa pr nightmare. So they're going to
do everything in their power to say, oh, it wasn't us, it
was most certainly them. Now theylanded in a Druze community, and the
Drews people in Israel are really interestingand I had the opportunity to meet some

(55:35):
members of the Druz tribe and verykind, nice people. My nephew said
that the Druze soldiers in the IDFare some of the most effective soldiers because
the Drews people are a separate religion. They are not Muslims. They are
Drews and they live in different placesthroughout the Middle East, and there's a

(55:57):
good chunk of Drew's folks in Israel. And my nephew said, Look,
the Drews operate like this. Ifyou leave them alone or welcome them into
your community, they are your bestfriends. They are extremely loyal to anyone
who provides them protection and gives themtheir own space. And that is what
Israel does. They live without issuein Israel. They serve in the Israeli

(56:19):
military, they serve in the policeforce. They're very service minded. It
is part of their faith. Butthey are also incredibly dangerous once you cross
them. And this is going toturn into a really really dumb mistake for
Hesbela to make for two reasons.Number one, Israel is going to retaliate.

(56:39):
Now they've had some back and forth, some kind of tip for tat
stuff going over the Lebanese border.Israel has struck a couple of places that
they are relatively certain were Hesbela leadershiphideouts. They've killed one of the leaders
of Hesbela. And now this isjust going to take it next level.
The United States is warning people inleban On the Israeli border that they should

(57:01):
probably go somewhere else at least forthe time being. Now Hesbel of course,
is just another proxy for Iran, and just like Irn. Remember let's
not forget, let's not forget Iran'sbig strike on Israel. Remember this,
they fired off the slowest missiles knownto missile. And then after they fired

(57:25):
off these really slow missiles, theywere like, ahem, we have fired
missiles at Israel. A hem. They should be there in a couple of
hours. A hem, ahem.Just so you guys know, some missiles
coming from over here. Be therein a couple hours. Now. Do

(57:45):
they have missiles that fly faster?Yep? Did they shoot them at Israel?
Nope, it's all posturing. It'sall just trying to make them look
tough, you know, it's itdoesn't mean any thing except you know,
people die over their posturing and theirnonsense. So now now we're gonna have

(58:09):
to see whether or not what Israeldoes next. And Israel will most certainly
respond because they have no choice. And this is the part I want to
make very very clear to anyone whosays Israel is the aggressor Israel responds disproportionately,
Israel's going to kill more civilians.Israel is going to kill more civilians

(58:29):
because these terror organizations know that adead civilian is worth a million dollars in
pr They learn this very You knowyears ago that the best way to attack
Israel is to get everyone else toturn on Israel. The best way to
get everyone else to turn on Israelis to kill twelve children and then feign

(58:50):
complete shock when Israel responds in amassive way and kills a bunch of people.
If Israel doesn't respond and do exactlywhat I just said, there will
be ten more of these attacks inthe next two days, because if they
get away with it once, thenIsrael is viewed as soft in a society
where honor this dispropose And don't getme wrong, I think honor is very

(59:15):
important, right. I think honorin and of itself, being an honorable
person is something we should aspire to. But it's kind of like when you
get in you know. I mean, I've only seen it on TV.
I don't hang out with criminal gangs, So maybe this is just exaggerated.
But this sense of honor among thieves, where if you disparage or you do
something wrong, you've dishonored someone. You've disrespected them, and therefore you have

(59:37):
to pay a price, there's juststupid and meaningless. Being honorable and being
an honorable person is doing the rightthing even when no one is looking,
and doing the right thing for thesake of doing the right thing. That's
being honorable. Killing someone because theirsister had a boyfriend. That's not an

(59:59):
honor. Even though it's called anhonor killing, it's not so. If
Israel doesn't strike back, they're viewedas soft, they're viewed as weak,
and it just enables and it boldenshas Bela Iran, the who thies Hamas.
Think about this. You know,in World War Two, we got

(01:00:20):
sucked in on the Western Front bythe attack in Pearl Harbor, and everybody
was like, oh my gosh, they are fighting a war in two directions.
They're fighting to the east, they'refighting to the west. Israel.
The only relief Israel has is theMediterranean Sea, and even there, people
are shooting rockets to them from theMediterranean Sea. They're being attacked from all

(01:00:43):
sides. And what are they supposedto do. They can't lay down their
arms or it will just mean more. It will mean more destruction, it
will mean more murder of Jews,it will mean a second Holocaust, and
the rest of the world. Well, we've got Kamala Harris saying that she
wanted to cease fire sooner rather thanlater. Word on the street is that

(01:01:06):
net and Yahoo actually laughed at that, and he's not going to take orders
from anybody else. I don't blamethem. I wish it weren't this way.
I wish that Israel could lay downits arms. I wish that Israel
could tell all of the soldiers whoare away from their businesses and their families
and their children that they could gohome. I wish that they could tell

(01:01:27):
those children, you know what, you can go out and play in that
soccer field and not worry about abomb raining down on your head. But
they don't get that luxury because they'refighting for their very existence every single day,
and they have been every single daysince the formation of the country.
And if they're willing to make thatfight because it's that important to them,
I got to say, the leastwe can do is support them in that

(01:01:51):
anyway. So that is what's happeningin Israel, and we'll see what happens
next because Israel will strike back Tesbolain Lebanon, and then we'll just see
what happens after that. Now,when we get back, We've got got
so many different stories on here,I can't decide which way I want to
go. Oh oh, I gota question from a listener I need answered.

(01:02:15):
It has to do with exercise equipment. You know what's happening right now,
guys. I'm getting with some frequencynow emails from older people whose spouse
has passed away and they have stuffthat they don't know what to do with,
but they wanted to do good andso they reach out to me.
So basically, I'm going to createMandy Swapshop after this. The day when

(01:02:42):
crazy crap keeps coming across my Twitterfeed. If you missed the woman that
I played earlier, talking about pendingon listening airrs. This one is even
better. This is a woman singingor rapping I guess a song about her

(01:03:04):
views of the world, and I'mgonna retweet this on my Twitter page and
you can go find it there. It's it's it's something. Let me have
my audio keep on my computer soI can go ahead and get this going.
Are you ready? I don't thinkyou're ready for this. I don't
I don't think. I don't thinkanyone is ready for what I'm about to

(01:03:25):
play on the radio. But herewe go. See child pree threaten.
He's the patriarchy. We don't needno ma'am. We can do everything.
He can all live a bull Taylor'son my side, Tailor, I'm a

(01:03:45):
bull list. Maga starts to cry, what I'm a bull list? And
Taylor's on my side, Yes sheis. I'm a bull list. Starts
to craft. That's all that wason Twitter, and I'm grateful for that,
not that she did it, butthat's all that was on Twitter.

(01:04:12):
I'm I'm just gonna you know what, We're just I'm just gonna I'm not
even gonna say anything about that.I'm just gonna move on to a positive
store, well not totally positive.Rick sent me an email. You don't
know who Rick is, but I'mgonna share it with you. It says
my wife passed away from cancer fourmonths ago. A year ago, she
purchased a home gym workout product calledthe Total gim Power Platinum, but never

(01:04:36):
had a chance to use it.It's still in the cart and never been
opened. I wanted to give itaway to someone or some organization, not
sell it. I thought of youand your exercise program, maybe the Kia
Sports Guys, a youth athletic program, or a high school athletic department.
And then he gives me the measurementsof the box. It's very heavy goodwill,
and the Vietnam Veterans of America can'ttake it because it's too heavy to

(01:04:58):
move easily. I I'm closing iton eighty, says Rick, and I
can barely lift it. It's totallyfree. If someone wants it, they
have to come by and pick itup. So I'm looking for somebody,
an organization, the youth group, somebody that could use this. And I
thought I would just throw this outto you, dear listeners, and maybe

(01:05:18):
we shall see you can email meif you'd like more information, Mandy.
Mandy Connell at iHeartMedia dot com.Mandyconnell at iHeartMedia dot com. You can
email me if you want more informationabout that, Mandy. We are starting
here. We are going to starthearing about another fire around Golden I'm starting
to see smoke coming over from thefoothills. Let's not get that started until

(01:05:43):
we know that there's another fire.We do have a fire in Loveland.
We're going to have they're calling itthe Alexander Mountain Fire. It's a two
hundred and fifty acres as of rightnow. We are going to have updates
throughout the day. Kathy is gatheringinformation. She is paying it's very close
attention. So if there's any updatedinformation, we will have that for you
here about the Alexander Mountain fire.If you are in that area, you
need to be aware there are mandatoryevacuation orders for that area, so please

(01:06:08):
check in and find it. Totalgym works very well, Mandy. Take
it now. What he's trying todo is give it to somebody like an
organization or you know, like fora sports program or something like that.
I don't know if he just wantsto give it away. And by the
way, this is the gym thatChuck Norris sells. Just throwing that out
there give them more credibility. Mandy, I think the only person that benefits

(01:06:31):
from an escalation in that region ofthe world is Trump. I'm giving this
some thought. You know, Idon't know if the United States of America
doesn't benefit from an escalation, becauseultimately the escalation is going to be full
all out war with Iran. Becauseif you're fighting the Houthis and you're fighting

(01:06:56):
has Balah, and you're fighting Hamas, you're fighting Iran, and maybe at
that point you drop the gloves, put a run on notice, and go
to cut the snake the snake's headoff instead of just you know, getting
its tentacles. Mandy, people thiscringe should probably not have children. Trust
me, she does not have children, as she's sang about, because being

(01:07:17):
child free smashes the patriarchy. Atleast she rhymed, Hey, Mandy,
what's your ex handle? There aretoo many folks with your same name.
I don't want to follow the incorrectone though it is literally at Mandy Connall
and Mandy is spelled with a y, not an ee. I'm a talk
show host, not a stripper.Dang it, just kidding. If your

(01:07:39):
name is Mandy with an eye andco n n e lll at Mandyconnell dot
com, Mandy, my wife hasapproximately fourteen hundred and three empty Amazon boxes
free to any good listener. Stopit right now, we're trying to do
something nicem mm hm. Anyway,I've got a question down here that I

(01:08:05):
want to address really quickly, Mandy, don't you think the attack pretty much
gives Trump the election? Kamala Harrisis going to have to commit to the
Israelis and she will never do that. Now. I don't know what Kamala
is going to do. I haveno idea. She has not shown a
strong support for the Israelis thus far, but you never know what the Jewish
vote will tell her in her ear. That being said, I don't think

(01:08:27):
this issue is big enough to swingthe election one way or the other.
I think for some of us it'svery important. For most people, they
don't care. They don't view itas Israel fighting has blad Haamas and Ron,
so we don't have to, whichis really how I look at it.
In addition, I believe that Israelshould have the right to defend itself.
But I don't think it's that big. Oh, Craig hospital, Oh,

(01:08:50):
I don't know. It's not abad suggestion. When we come back,
we're going to talk with Dick Wadhams. He is a former chairman of
the GOP. He's been writing aboutthe absolute chaos and nonsense in the GOP
and multiple columns in the Denver gazett. We're going to talk to him next.
The Mandy Connell Show is sponsored byBelle and Pollock accident and injury lawyers.

(01:09:12):
No, it's Mandy Connell. Andycon On kam got study the nicety
through prey by Donald keeping your sadbase well, welcome, Welcome, and

(01:09:33):
in true Mandy Connell fashion. Idid a great promo for my interview that
is actually at two thirty with DickWadhams, and I left you guys hanging
because instead we're going to talk tothe Daily Callers. Case Smyth. She
wrote a great column and honestly,I felt this in my bones when her
column began with social media erupted Fridayafternoon with everyone asking what the f is

(01:09:59):
going on at the Olympics opening ceremony, I felt that kay, and welcome
to the show. Landy, thankyou so much for having me. I
feel so seen, I feel soheard, because it was it was just
social media just erupted, and Itried to switch off from the Twitter and

(01:10:20):
all that sort of stuff as soonas I can at any point during the
day, which is not really everduring an election year. But I was,
you know, I want to takean minut, I'm going to take
a beat. I'm going to takesome time. And then my friend starts
saying, France has fallen, andI'm like, what, let me just
let me give you a slightly differentviewpoint of the opening ceremonies on Friday.

(01:10:44):
I talked about this a little bitearlier in my show, and there was,
you know, it was so Frenchin so many ways. It was
so over the top and almost grotesquein its in its desperate attempt to force
inclusion down our throats in such away it was it was almost it felt

(01:11:04):
perfect to me, because that, for me, has been my experience in
France, is the sort of disdainwith which they look down at everyone else
in the world who are not French. And the whole scene of the Last
Supper as soon as that happened.I was like, oh, that was
a really bad choice, really badchoice, and yet here we are.

(01:11:25):
And of course that's when Twitter eruptedand everyone was basically like you said,
like what are we doing here? But knowing where we are in France and
how secular France is, it's myguess that they didn't even think this would
be objectionable to have drag queens ona bridge portraying the Last Supper. I
mean, okay, so I completelyagree with everything you just said. With

(01:11:48):
the tappy ad that I felt like, I think what you said for it
being so fretch and it was sothat it was the bourgeoisie right, yes,
And like I grew up, I'mspending a lot of time in France,
like a lot of summers. Ispent it in the back of the
camper van. It was not thebougie type of France by any means.

(01:12:10):
It was really that, you know, the sort of other side I want
to say, like proletariats. Itwasn't like that, but you know what
I mean, like normal people France, France, like normal people like I
live in North Carolina. I livein rural North Carolina, and I mean
the landscape here is very similar toFrance. The farming people's attitudes towards the
data like that, that's what Franceis to me. So what I saw

(01:12:33):
was this Parisian which is very similarto you know, what I would call
sort of like eighties londoner just theywill spit on you if you're in their
way and you're desperately crying for helplike that. That is what I get
when I like, I avoid Parislike the absolute plague. It is not
one of those cities. But ifyou want to go see all the arts

(01:12:54):
on the start to go, doit whatever, But that is not real
France. And like, actually Iwould say most of the rest of France
is pretty Christian. You know. It's really sort of similar to the US
in the sense that, like youget these cities where everything is extremely secular,
and then the further out you get, the more people are in touch
with nature, the more people arein touch with basically their own humanity.

(01:13:18):
And I think that that eventually leadsto more the growth in spiritualism, whether
that's Christianity or whatever you want. You know, who cares, But so
long as you've got faith, Ithink that's that's always good because otherwise you
end up worshiping something like whatever thatwas the Olympic ceremony, well was that

(01:13:38):
it was. It was so bizarrethat at one point when when the guy
with the long blonde hair and thebeard wearing the leotard came out, I
burst out laughing because it was justso it was almost like, of course,
France, of course, this iswhat you're gonna do. This,
this is how you're going to go. But the most interesting part about the

(01:13:59):
whole Last Supper thing is that Francehas had its share and I don't need
to go through all of those withIslamist extremist right, they had the the
you know, Charlie Hebdo experience, they had, I mean, all of
these horrific things that it brought tobear by Islamic extremists. You would think
that maybe somebody would say, hey, guys, at the opening ceremonies of

(01:14:21):
what is supposed to be this worldwideevent, let's not say anything about religion
in any way, shape or form. But apparently that didn't happen. Yeah,
well, that's like that's the thing, right, It's still fine to
make fun of Christians, It's stillfine to malchus it's still fine to sort
of look down, you know, you sort of nose of us because we

(01:14:45):
don't go out and do all ofthe stuff like okay, yeah, Like
I always like to say the KKKis to Christianity as a Muslim or sort
of like extremist fundamentalist Islam is toowell, I sort of soares mainstream like
regular runner the milt Islam, likewhere I grew up, so a lot
a lot of Islamic people, andso I do want to differentiate that.

(01:15:06):
But like I think the degree, like the degree of violence that occurs in
Europe when it comes from Muslim extremistsis so significant, And I think I
go back and forth on this allthe time with my fiancee who's American,
and he's like, oh, they'llnever be like ground warfare in America,

(01:15:29):
and I would say, like, well, like growing up in Europe,
like you know, we just can'tthink that way, Like these things happen
all the time, because you do. Like I've seen literal terror plots boiled
in Europe, and I think thatyou know, if they had done even
the tiniest thing to mock you know, any of the profits or whatever or

(01:15:53):
anything to do with the Quran orIslam. I dread to think what would
have happened, right, who housI'm French embassies all over the world like
it would it would have caused worldwatery. I really do believe that.
But it's fine to make fun ofChristians. Why Christians are still being slaughtered
all over the world. I don'tknow. I just I pid grant all

(01:16:15):
about this Inmpas. It's sad,it's not fair, it's not Let me
ask you this because I said thisearlier on the show. I consider myself
a Christian as well. And thesort of all out call to boycott the
Olympics has been pretty strong by manyon the Christian right, but for me,
that that kind of blames the athletesfor something they had no power over

(01:16:40):
whatsoever. What are your thoughts onthat, on that boycott movement? And
I'm gonna be I'm honest, I'man unabashed Olympics lover. I love the
Olympics. I've already watched like tendifferent sports over the weekend, including that
cross country on horseback where they jumpover little houses into puddles. It's amazing,
Like, I love this. Sowhat do you think about that?

(01:17:00):
Take? Like Why are we punishingthe athletes for the actions of people that
they had nothing to do with.Yeah, and I think I think that's
such an important point. Like Ihadn't I hadn't thought of that, Like
you're so on the money, andit s all of reminds me of like
all the stuff that went down withthe Clippers, Like I used to live
in Los Angeles, and you know, they got absolutely ripped to shreds when

(01:17:23):
you know their former owner, likeall that stuff came out that he got
horrible racial stuff that he'd been saying, And you know, I think a
lot of people try to take itout on the athletes, and I thought
that was like pretty unfair because yeah, they didn't have any control over over
that situation. You know, that'slike me and you being blamed for the
stuff our bosses doing. We havehow many control over those like those people.

(01:17:45):
But I will say I and ambeing completely honest with you, I
will watch the rugby if I'm upin time, like when it's on during
the Six Nations. But like thatis basically as far like the most sports
I watch is like the Outdoor Boyson YouTube, Like that is the cultiest
thing that I watch well, yeah, I love sports. I'm a casual

(01:18:06):
sports fan, but I just lovethe Olympics. I love the notion that
all of these nations from all overthe world are coming together to compete against
one another. And yes, someof them are professionals and some of them
make gobs and gobs and money, but the whole concept is so just cool,
mostly because our team wins a lot, so I like that too.
But to your point about rugby,I watched my first rugby game in a

(01:18:29):
long time last night, enjoyed theheck out of it. Had no idea
what was going on, but whata fun is sport to watch. So
I'm I'm gonna be watching rugby andthe women's rugby team. They're They're very
scary, Okay, they're very They'reextremely intimidating, and I think they're gonna
I think they're gonna do well thistime. I'm so done so this is
nothing. I got to get thisonline television because so I'm for Wales rugby
as on national score. Right. How weird is it that, like,

(01:18:51):
you watch your first rugby match lastnight and we're talking about it now.
That feels like fate love it.But I think when it comes to like
female rugby players, it's the samewith the men. Like we always say
that, you know it, footballor soccer is a gentleman school played by
thugs, and rugby is a thugschool played by gentlemen. And I think

(01:19:14):
that definitely applies to the women too. But they, yeah, for sure,
they could like kill an eat likeboth of us like, yeah,
exactly, kick Gary Case, Mike, thank you so much for your time
today. Great column in the DailyCaller that I link today on the blog
so people can check out the wholecolumn. But yes, we all WTF
together. Thank you. Kay.We'll talk to again soon. Thank you
so much for having me, Maddie. Have a great day. All right,

(01:19:35):
We'll be right back. We've gotDick Wadhams coming up in just a
few minutes. Got a couple ofstories on the blog. I want to
make sure that you see. Oneof them is kind of I don't know,
unnerving. There's a new study outthat says early onset dementia maybe more
common than previously thought. And theissue is is that people and early on

(01:19:57):
set is considered anything under the ageof sixty five, and so a lot
of times early onset dementia could bemisdiagnosed as just stress or even anxiety or
depression. And what they're finding outis those changes started happening in the brain
much earlier than they had initially thought. Now that matters because most of the

(01:20:23):
medications that we have and they're notgreat. There's no medication that's just knocking
out of the park when it comesto dementia or Alzheimer's disease or any of
these similar memory affecting degenerative diseases ofthe brain. But the ones that are

(01:20:45):
out there seem to do best Withpeople who are diagnosed early, they have
the best results in slowing down theprogression of the disease. So this stuff
all matters. Very interesting story. You can check that out. Another blood
test for colon cancer and I hadmy colonosby about a month and a half
ago now and everything was fine.I studied for the test really hard and

(01:21:09):
everything. But honestly, if there'sanother way to do that, because we
do not have a history of coloncancer in my family, my family doesn't
get cancer so much. We getwe get autoway immune disorders in my family.
That's what's in my family tree.So I'm not at high risk for
colon cancer, and so I'd loveto be able to just do a blood

(01:21:30):
test. Got that on the blogas well. If you like me,
love live music, which are kindof lazy, and sometimes going to Red
Rocks seems hard. Well, ifyou're in the southern part of the metro,
good news, Colorado Springs has anew music venue that's going to be
open in a couple of weeks. The Ford Amphitheater on the north side of
the Springs is coming to life, and the developer of this property says it's

(01:21:51):
going to be ready in less thana week, ready for its first show.
I think One Direction from Colorado Springsis playing there. Republic. Wait
a minute, which band? OneRepublic? One Direction? I always get
them mixed up, and they're notremotely similar. So that's I don't know
why I can't keep those straight.I'm not in their demo. I'm scrolling

(01:22:14):
down right now. Let's see here, they've got a private thing coming up.
And then the Amphitheater is opened upby Oh, come on, scrolling
down the story looking for who isplaying in the venue. It looks like
it's gonna be pretty cool. Andif there's one thing I've learned I like

(01:22:35):
watching music outside. I just don'twatch like watching music outside in a stadium.
Do you go to a lot ofshows, Cooper, Uh, yeah,
for the most part. I actuallyjust went to one which day,
Sorry about that, That's okay.I actually went to one on Saturday,
Kenny Chesney, which was outdoors.Yeah, that was the stadium. Yeah,

(01:22:58):
I'm not doing I'm done with stadiumshows. We had the sandbar tickets,
which were the jenner Ga tickets, right in front of the stage.
Yeah. So there you're able toget as close as you want. Oh
and packed up with thousands of yourclosest friends. That sounds like my nightmare,
to tell you the truth. Theonly thing that was bad about Saturday
night was there was a lightning delayof about thirty five minutes, same thing
that happened at the Edge here inconcert, and I was like, no,

(01:23:20):
I'm out. I'm good, I'mout. Left early. Yeah for
Edge, Hearon I did. Mydaughter was actually quite sick and she really
wanted to go to the show.So we went to the show and like,
as we're sitting in the rain delay, She's like, I feel terrible
and I'd like to go home.So we just left. I had a
good excuse, it makes sense.Yeah. One Republic, by the way,

(01:23:41):
One Republic is the band, andI like their music, so I
don't know why I can't get thatright. Dick Wadham's coming up next to
talk about the drama in the ColoradoGOP again, because it's still going on
right after this. I've got himat the right time. Former chair of
the GOP and now frequent critic ofthe current leadership of the GP. Dick

(01:24:02):
wadhams joins me, Hello, Dick, your column today, hmm. You
must have been like, wow,I probably should have saved that one for
another day so I can make somecorrections on your column about what was supposed
to happen Saturday, if you could. You know when I filed that column
on the last Thursday for Friday,Andy, I thought about that that we

(01:24:24):
had no idea what would happen onSaturday. But I'm so glad I wrote
it because it basically focused on thatridiculous meeting under the bridge in Bridge in
the Bay Field, Colorado. Bythat sham meeting that way was called down
there. Apparently it didn't even showup for it was so important that they
have now let me just give peoplewho are just joining us or just getting
up to speed. It went likethis, after collecting enough signatures from Central

(01:24:47):
Committee members, there were two Republicanswho said, we want to call a
meeting to talk about ousting Dave Williams, who has been plundering the party's money
and using it for his own personalgain. And so, according to the
bylaws, the actual leadership of theCentral Committee as ten days to call a
meeting. Instead of doing that, they called a meeting in the middle of

(01:25:11):
the week, early in the dayin Bayfield, which is six hours away
from Denver. And the kicker isthey didn't even rent to space. They
didn't even meet in the lobby ofthe McDonald's dick. They met under a
bridge like trolls in the middle ofthe morning, you know what I mean.
And then they called that meeting intoorder, and then they immediately called
it out of order until the Augustthirty first, which is when they plan

(01:25:34):
on having a meeting to address allthis. This is just I was so
mad when I found out what happenedon Friday. Yeah, I mean,
I mean, I mean, Mandy, this entire regime that Williams with his
other two. There are no ethics, there are no rules, there are

(01:25:55):
no frankly, election laws, thereare no norms that are not that should
not be violated in the pursuit oftheir ambitions. And this is the latest
the prostitution I think of the ofthe bylaws of the Colorado Republican Party to
have a sham meeting under a bridgeto uh to give the appearance of meeting

(01:26:17):
the bylaw requirement. And instead ofthat, the the well we'll call the
the anti David Williams wing. Theysaid, you know what, we're going
to call our own meeting as thebylaws allow. They called a meeting on
Saturday. On Friday, a judge, because Dave Williams is wasting more of
the of the party's money by filinga lawsuit to stop this meeting, a

(01:26:41):
judge offers a temporary restraining order. What's your best guess on what happens next
in this absolute circus, Well, what I am told is that that restraining
order will come down at some pointas early as this week, and then
that the group of people who wholegitimately called a meeting of the State Cental

(01:27:01):
Committee will hold that meeting sometime inearly to mid August, and he's going
to the fact of the matter isMandy. It's becoming pretty clear the votes
exist to replace him. Now Idoubt if he will leave. I think
he'll declare the meeting that would removehim as null and void and illegal,

(01:27:23):
whatever language he uses, and thenfrankly, the Republican National Committee will have
to intervene and decide who is thelegitimate chairman of Colorado's Republican Party. That's
what they did in Michigan just ayear ago. Well, and Dave Williams
did not make any friends in thislast election cycle at the RNC because he
grifted, as grifters do. WhenDonald Trump was convicted, he sent out

(01:27:46):
a fundraising email expressly forbidden by theRNC. They said, do not try
to fundraise off this, because we'regoing to be fundraising off this. And
he sent an email out that saidstand with Dave and Trump, but oddly
only to his campaign donation page.So I mean, he's not made a
lot of friends. No, hethinks he can. He thinks he can

(01:28:08):
get away with anything he wants todo. That there are no rules that
apply to him, not even notnot even demands set enforced by the Republican
National Committee and the Trump campaign. They don't apply to him. He can
do what he wants, and it'sit has caught up with him, Mandy,

(01:28:29):
And I think he actually senses that. You know, he has not
been seen or heard from for weeksnow, except when he was up the
National Convention, and there were briefssites of him then. But I think
he knows his day for numbers tostay chair, he's got to. I
mean, you have to be It'syou know, I said it about Joe
Biden when that in the weeks afterthe disastrous debate. I said it about

(01:28:50):
Joe Biden. When enough people tellyou you're dead, it's time to lie
down, right, It is timefor Dave Williams to lie down. And
yet he shows no sign. Andin the process, we've got actual Republicans
who could use help from a stateparty that are getting nothing, and we
are perilously close, as Barbara Kirkmeyerpointed out at this rally on Saturday,

(01:29:12):
of being in a super minority situationwhere they don't even have to give lip
surface to Republican policies. This couldnot be any worse right now. The
timing of this is just absolutely horribleno and Mandy. At this point in
any given election cycle, the ColoradoRepublican Party should have up and running is

(01:29:33):
what we call victory, which isthe get out the vote, a right
by the car Red Republican State Party. It is one of the most crucial
programs of the Colorado Republican Party becauseit is it is supposed to get Republicans
out to vote, and to showyou how effective it is. In twenty
ten, when I was chairman,we got one hundred and six thousand Republicans

(01:29:56):
out to vote more than Democrats. In twenty fourteen, in that election cycle
under a different share, we gotone hundred and ten thousand more Republicans out
to vote in Democrats. And thatwas the year the Cory Gardner un seated
the Mark Udolf twenty fourteen. Wewon a bunch of elections in twenty ten,
and nothing is happening on that front. It is also a program that

(01:30:18):
is has been traditionally funded helped,it helped some being funded by the RNC.
They haven't set a nine to him, and so the Republican Party does
not exist right now in Colorado underDavid Williams. So I mean, I'd
love to say, what can wedo? And especially to your point about

(01:30:38):
get out the vote stuff. Iheard a sound by Shadmarab the other day,
the head of the Democratic Party inColorado. He's talking about, you
know, an army of volunteers togo door knock and you Derek Caraveo's district,
which is a very winnable race forRepublicans if they could get it together.
And all I can think of is, as a matter of fact,
I tweeted it, Dave Williams,I'm like, what's your you know,

(01:31:00):
so, who are you organizing togo door knock here? He's utterly incompetent.
The fact that anyone in the CentralCommittee still backs him I find the
most upsetting, Dick. I mean, because there's literally no aspect of his
job of GOP chairman that he hasdone well. He has spent the party
money, he has used the mailorsystem illegally from what I can understand,

(01:31:21):
Federal elections commissions looking into that.He has not raised money, He has
not helped get anyone elected. Hethrew one hundred years worth of norms about
not endorsing in the primary out thewindow, and fourteen out of eighteen of
them lost. So how could anybodystill be supporting him? Well, I
think that's one of his problems rightnow, Mandy, that a lot of

(01:31:43):
people involved in that meeting Saturday thatgot delayed by the judge are former supporters
of hits. Oh wow. Ithink a lot of people that gave him
the benefit of the day out ayear ago are now totally against them and
they're participating in this move to removehim. To your other point about to
get out the vote effort, itputs people like Jeff Hurd in the third
congressional district, gave Evans in theeighth district in those tough seats. They

(01:32:10):
basically are going to have to runthose get up the vote efforts themselves if
they're not going to get any helpfrom the party. Now. The National
Republican Senate, that Congressional Committee willbe helping with some things, but they're
basically on their own, and they'regoing to be raised enough money to do
what they need to do. Butlike I say, traditionally the party has
been very important, very critical tothat and it's not there. So,

(01:32:33):
I mean, do we have anyhope for Colorado Republicans right now? What
needs to happen, Like if youcould wave a magic wand and you know,
inspire people to do what needs tobe done, what needs to be
done, and how can we supportthat. Well, the most important races,
because we have no state wide raceson the ballot other than President Rights

(01:32:55):
and I mean, listen, Trumpis probably not going to carry Colorado.
That Jeff Hurd in the third congressionaldistrict, he's going to win that seat.
Dave Evans and the eighth congressional districtgave us the probably the toughest race
that he can win that seat.He is outstanding candidate. We've got Jeff
Frank who's already that's a very Republicandistrict. But we have a bunch of

(01:33:17):
state legislative candidates around the especially inthe state Senate you mentioned earlier about Bard
Kirkmeyer. We are one vote awayfrom the Democrats having a veto proof majority
in the Senate, and we haveto win every Senate seat that is up
in terms of a competitive district tohold on to that seat. So between
the state Senates and state House seatsand then the congressional seats, that's the

(01:33:41):
only thing that matters between now andthen and whatever. If we had elected
new chairman who can at least putsome things in motion to help these candidates
that would be important. Wouldn't thatbe nice? Who would you if anyone,
do you want to say, ifthere's anybody out there that's jocking for
this position that you would support,or who would you think would be the
ideal candidate. We think it needsto be somebody who understands the parameters of

(01:34:02):
the job, who understands the roleof the state chairman, who actually understands
the what it takes to actually attractmajor donors back to the party, because
major donors have basically shown this chairmanthat they've just basically advantaged because they don't
trust them with their money. Soit's got to be somebody who has some

(01:34:24):
experience and who understands the role ofthe state chairman. Too many people think
the state chairman can snap their fingersand things happen. No, it takes
a lot of It takes a lotof knowledge, and it takes a lot
of a lot of experience to knowwhat to do. And so whoever gets
selected has got to understand the parametersand what the state chair is all about.

(01:34:46):
So is there you know you knowas well as I do that the
money has dried up on the rightin Colorado. That anybody who fund raises
in that space will tell you itis the most challenging fundraising environment they've ever
been in, regardless of whether they'rethink tank or you know, policy group
or whatever. Is there anyone thatyou think would have the best chance of

(01:35:06):
opening those wallets? Again, Well, this was not a knock on any
any of the other candidates, butI do think that, uh, that
somebody like Eli Grammer might probably bringsthe best experience to the to the to
the job. I mean, Elihas run for the US Senates. He

(01:35:29):
didn't win, but listen, whenyou you learn a lot when you run
from major office like that. AndEli's been He was the retotal coan chairman
of Altaso County and uh, listen, I think Eli and he put out
a really interesting plan. Yeah,or and I was really impressed by that.
He's got a candidates. I mean, he's got he's got a team

(01:35:49):
from all over the state and andyou know, I know, I know
that Richard Holdtorf wants to do it. I know that Britt of Horns he
was on the show. But Igot to tell you, I too was
impressed by Eli's plan that he pooks. I was like, well, this
is someone who is already organizing tomove forward, to hit the ground running
immediately, and I thought that wasimpressive. Well, the other candidates seemed

(01:36:10):
to be talking about unifying party.Well that's good, but that's it's got
to be more than that. Thatthat that, I mean, you've got
it. And I thought Eli reallylaid out a really good short term plan
because we are one hundred days awayin November, and I was impressed by
that. Well, we shall see. Dick Wadhams is my guest. One

(01:36:31):
last question before I let you go, Dick, and that is very very
simple. Is there any hope forthis election cycle? I mean we are
we too far behind the eight ballto talk about some of those races that
you just mentioned earlier, especially likethe Yadeiro Carave I gave Evans race.
I feel like that's a very winnablerace. I feel like the Adam Frisch

(01:36:51):
Jeff Herd race is a very winnablerace. But they're going to be hard
races. These are not these arein no way shape or for him a
walk in the park. Are wegoing to be able to pull it together
to get it done. I dothey are. They are running excellent campaigns,
they're upstanding candidates to Mandy, andI really think Jeff Hurd is going

(01:37:11):
to win the third we know weknow Jeff Frank is going to win the
fifth. I think Dave Evans isgoing to win that eighth district. And
then we've got some like Robin Carneswho's running for the state Senate and that
Arapido County district, which is aDemocratic seat. I think she can she
can win that and take that away. We've got two great incumbents on the
Western Slope, Republicans who are runningstrong campaigns. So so what is interesting

(01:37:35):
is that because of the strength ofour candidates and their campaigns, I still
think it could be a good nightin terms of winning some key races.
But they're going to do it despitethe state Party, because of it under
Williams. Sad but true, DickWadhams keep writing about it. I'm going
to keep talking about it. Eventuallywe'll be able to move on from this
long nightmare. As they say, that's right, thank you, all right,

(01:37:59):
thanks to appreciate you, appreciate you. So happy. I stayed a
Republican by accident, because you didknow how to change my party affiliation.
I wish I was kidding, butit's not. I thought I did.
I clicked the cliquies, I toggledthe toggles, and yet there I was.
I want to say one more thingabout the Olympic opening ceremonies. There

(01:38:24):
were a few really great parts ofthe Olympic ceremonies, but my favorite,
favorite, favorite part was Selene Dion'ssinging. Not because I'm a huge Selene
Dion fan. I mean, ifyou love the Titanic movie, you had
to love that song. But no, Selene Dion is battling what's known as
stiff person syndrome. It actually seizesup your muscles and turns you into a

(01:38:45):
statue. She has not performed inyears, and she got out there at
the Olympics and absolutely crushed it,just crushed it. I teared up a
little bit. Coober, I betyou're a big Selene Dion fan. Uh
No, not really, I waskidding. I didn't really think you were
a big sleep mart will go onthough, yes, yes it will do.

(01:39:06):

like throw shade at someone you're sayingsomething negative about them. Yep, you're
casting aspersions. The cast aspersion onsomeone is to criticize them harshly or unfair.
Okay, I feel like I shouldknow this question, but I'm not
sure I do. In bowling, what is a turkey? That is when

(01:40:32):
