Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's get to Britta Horne.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
She is the Colorado Republican chairwoman and last night she
took the hit, so we don't have to.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
She went to one of.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
These Republicans or toxic meetings in Gypsum put on by
the Colorado Democratic Party, and now she's here to talk
about it.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Hello Britta, Hello, miss Mandy. How are you.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
I am doing very very well.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I have to ask, what was your reception last night
when you walked into this Colorado demn meeting?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Oh my gosh. They were surprised. They were quite surprised.
So some of you, some of us, We're to bed
about a dozen of us showing up, and I bet
you there was about thirty there. And it was at
the library, in the very small room. And it wasn't
as gatekeeping as maybe people think. You know, you could
walk in, you didn't have to reserve your reservation, but

(00:49):
we did just let them know we were coming. And
we also even turned into no questions that they said
to turn into their email. But when we walked in
the door, I saw the blind going out of the
face of a few and they handed us a clipboard
and they're like, can you fill this out? And then
I really bold, you know, wrote my name and Colorado
GOP chair and gladly gave them my phone number. And

(01:10):
I'm like, we're here with signs and patriotic people and
everybody wearing red, white and blue, and oh, they just
didn't think we were going to come, but we did.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
So what was this meeting all about? What did you
get from the meeting? And I'm guessing they probably just
they probably ratcheted back the rhetoric a little bit because
you were standing.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
There, one would think. But I also had a video,
so we'll get to that later. So they really were
so proud of themselves. They're penning themselves in the back
of all these accomplishments that they did, and none of
it was true, none of it. You know, they were
saying that their budget, you know, they bounced the budget,
but that didn't happen at all this year. You know,

(01:51):
we ended up having a budget year for the JBC.
The Joint Budget Committee told us that twenty twenty six
and twenty twenty seven, we're going to be seven hundred
million in the red and we're dipping into our reserves.
You know, we're already short our reserves from fourteen two
percent to those statutory requirement of fifteen percent. That's of
like eighty three million dollars, and there's it's not balanced.

(02:15):
We have to do two things. Let's get a lot
of granular here. If you bailce the budget, there's that
long doll and it's signed by the governor, but you
also have to do the supplemental budgets and the supplement
funding in February of twenty six and it hasn't happened yet, right,
So don't it just seems like you're, oh, sorry, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
No, no, go ahead, right, I was gonna let you
finish that.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
I want to make a point, right, No worry.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
I'm just saying that they're they're saying that they've done
all these things. They've done all these things. That's bad
Republicans and bad Trump and bad but you know they've
you know, they've owed BBB, you know the big good Will.
They were just saying that so long and they're taking
you know, one point two billion dollars from us, and
it's like, no, no, no, that's not even true. This

(02:58):
budget shortfall would before this bill got pass.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
So Britta, let me ask you this, because this has
been super frustrating for me. I understand the way Colorado's
income tax or our taxes are sort of index to
the federal income tax, and that's a problem. We're one
of a few states that has that issue. But the
reality is everyone knew that there was going to be
some changes into how much federal money were going to

(03:23):
come to the states. Why didn't the Democrats address the
tax code issue in this last legislative session, because if
they'd done that, then none of this would have been happening.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
According to them, right.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Exactly exactly, they knew what they knew it was going
to be this way. But for the reason why, and
the only reason I know, I don't know them. I
don't know all the personal reasons, but they the big
problem is they have a spending problem, and they don't
understand how to cut and to stay within a budget.
And they've had since twenty nineteen the trisecta from the
governor down to the state into the House having the majority,

(03:59):
and had all this time to be able to fix this,
but instead they just spend, spend, spent.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I actually have a more nefarious reason that I think, Ritta,
if I'm honest, and I think they're going to use
this as another bludgeon to attack Tabor again. Because there,
I mean, I don't know if you saw Barbar Kirkmeyer
on television and oh my gosh, the gentleman's name just
popped right out of my head where he essentially says well, yes,
where he said, well, we're just gonna we need to

(04:27):
raise revenue. They want to come after Tabor, they want
to destroy Taber, and the best way to do that
is to say, look, if we didn't have Taber, we
wouldn't have had to have a special session. This is
all Taper's fault. We have to get rid of this
in order to prevent this from happening again. I I
genuinely think that that is what is in play here.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
I don't disagree. And they actually were saying that, so
I'm surprised. I felt like you were probably a flyer
in the room on the wall, because yes, they said,
Taber is a problem. We have to get rid of it.
It's old, it's an equated you know, there's nothing, you know,
there's nothing we could do for this. You know, we're
we're gonna have to do this. We're gonna have to
do there's no surplus for the paper. Everybody groaned, or
nobody's gonna get their check. Yeah, because the Democrats spent

(05:10):
it all. They spent it all, and so they're going
to go into this because this really is if you
look back to thirty thousand foot view, I also think
this is just pre circle prepriming everybody, I guess is
the right word to the August twenty first special session.
And there's nothing special about this session when you should
rename it as Jared's taxing session, because all there is

(05:34):
on that call is to do tax to raise money,
raise taxes.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Raise taxes.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
There is not one opportunity for Republicans to be able
to do a cut spending cut dough. There's no an
opportunity on the call. And all they're gonna do is
raise the taxes and that Jeff Bridges said that when
that reporter asked him, you know, are you guys going
to be raising taxes?

Speaker 2 (05:54):
And he said yes, so, But how can they do that, Britta,
if without asking our permission as long as tabor is
the rule of the land, of the law.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Of the land, one would think. But they're circumventing the
table for us. There's no way they should be doing this.
They're not even going to the voters on it. They're
just going to raise it because of this.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Crisis that they created.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Well, I actually think there's going to be another thing
coming out of this special session, and I think it's
going to be a referral to ballot amendment to get
rid of Tabor. I think they're going to do it
under the guise of addressing this budget shortfall, and they're
going to make the argument that if only it wasn't
for Tabor and those evil Republicans, we'd be just fine.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I think that's what's going to happen.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
So at the end of the meeting, did you have
a chance to talk to any of the sort of
democrat or the people that were at the meeting or
did you kind of stay with the people that.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
You were with?

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (06:47):
No, I want to ride and make sure I talk
to everybody, because I know the commissioners and I know
a lot of vocals. So I definitely went and shook
all their hands and thanked them and I just asked them,
especially Meghan Luken's and Dylan Roberts. It was just like,
why what is this still going on? You know, why
are we here? And so a lot of people coming
in and out. I had another young Democrat coming up
to me and calling me a fascist. I'm like, I'm like,

(07:11):
can we talk about this? And she was just darting
at me and saying things and herself like.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
Oh good gravy, and and we.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Had other people there asking all those questions. And we
did have one of a lady, our friend of ours,
and she was She went up both to Dylan Roberts,
Senator Roberts and to Shad I can't say his last
name of the.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
State a Democratic, thank you for that.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
His wife is.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Senator Terry Donovan and they're from Dale.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
So you know, we thought, actually I was the first
time we ever met, because we've been throwing punches at
each other on next so it's good the time we
made him. Anyway, so she has she goes, do I
look toxic? And right away she said Dylan Roberts said no,
you're not at all. And she's like, who is saying
all this? And he and he of course pointed to
his chair estate chair, and so she went to him
too and asked, yah. She's like, do I look I'm

(07:59):
seventy six years old, married, you have kids, I have grandkids.
Do I look toxic? And He's like, no, no, no,
just these people.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
And he was just going after the four Congressionals Republicans, right,
So it is.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
So old, you know, this fallout you know it is
from the World War two, the fallout shelter. You know,
there isn't that toxic you know logo, and you're just
looking at this going, wow.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Are they grasping at straws?

Speaker 3 (08:23):
So I really, I really encourage anybody, everybody go just
sign up, call you know, Reserve to Sea. It's I'll
say on their on their invite to just say, you know,
you don't have to have a you know, it's not required.
Go listen to them. I mean you might have to
put on some hip boots and listen to them and

(08:43):
try to ask some questions because they didn't take any
of our questions. We filled them out on little three
by five cards, you know, put him in there. They
were all, you know, but you know, the bucket that
all our questions went into, you know, disappeared and came
back in a certain fucking grass. You know, just keep
you know, you know, throwing, throwing, you know, some questions

(09:03):
to them, just saying what are you doing? Why are
you doing this? That's some really serious questions because the
people need to know, they need to know. If you
believe what's going to happen with the next resession with Taber,
I wouldn't doubt it, because this is going to be
there last year. I mean, the Democrats overall knowing the state,
but in the country, they lack leadership, they lack organization,
they lack a message. This is our year, Britta.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
I'm just gonna say this.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
I'm going to say this because we're out of time
that I want to get this on the record. The
fact that you went to that meeting last night with
other Republicans, for me, that feels like a sea change.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
That feels like a party that.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Is no longer willing to be the whipping boy of
the Democratic Party here in Colorado. And by going and
being respectful and trying to ask questions but showing up,
you have already improved the lot of the Republican Party.
And I really appreciate that. So yeah, I encourage people
to go. Don't act like an idiot when you go,
but go to these meetings. I put the link. I

(10:03):
have it on the blog where you can click through
and get the link. But Britta, I appreciate you making time,
and more importantly, I appreciate you demonstrating that the days
of Republicans cowering in the corner because we're afraid of
being called a fascist or a racist or whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
They can think of, are over in Colorado. Well done.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Oh no, no, c O l O g op dot org.
Find us over there, jump on our newsletter. You know
we'll love a don't donation because we are This is
our year, ma'am.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
This is.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
From your lips to God's ears. That's Britta Horne, the
Colorado chairman of the GOP. Thanks for the time today, Britta,
