Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is that time again, you guys, the time when
we start thinking about vacation.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Now, don't even give me that you just got that
from vacation. I want to see family. That doesn't count
as vacation. That's just time spent with family.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
However, next fall in October, as a matter of fact,
you can spend time not with just me, but also
my family as the next Mandy Connell Adventure takes off
to fly from here to beautiful Zurich, Switzerland and joining
me now from my favorite cruise and tour company. Well
they're the only cruise in to our company that I
would work with because well they're called Cruise in Tour
(00:38):
Doug Johnson to talk about the next Mandy Connell Adventure. Doug,
I'm very very very very very very very very excited
about this trip.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
I can tell that Mandy, that's spectacular to hear and
to see.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Well, you know what's funny, though, is I've been to
a lot of the places that we're going to on
this trip, but Chuck has it, neither has my daughter
the queue, and and now my mom is going to
and she's not been to any of these places, and
I am so excited, so let's talk about it.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Where are we going?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yep, that's awesome that you're going to be able to
share some of that with some of your family and
a bunch of the KOA listeners. So you mentioned we'll
start off flying into Zurich and then actually staying in
a beautiful point town, Lucerne, Switzerland, which is right on
a lake, and you know, we'll do a walking tour there.
We'll visit Lynch Chocolate factory for some samplings, and then
(01:30):
we'll board our ship in Basel, Switzerland and head on
down the Rhine River, making some beautiful stops and our
way over to Amsterdam.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
I am super excited about this because, like I've already
been to Heidelberg, which is one of our stops, and
been to Heidelberg Castle many many times. But let's talk
about the actual cruise itself, because I think a lot
of people kind of have the misconception that if they've
been on an ocean cruise, then they understand cruising. So
let's start with what are the different is there? What
(02:00):
can they expect from a river cruise?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah? Absolutely, If people haven't been on a river cruise,
it's a very different experience. These ships are smaller. They're
built differently because you know, going along these rivers in
Europe there's bridges they need to get under, and the
water is not as deep obviously is out in the ocean.
So this particular ship will be on is only one
hundred and eighty passengers in total, so much more of
(02:26):
an intimate field. You know, you'll get to know everybody
and see everybody frequently. Very easy to get on and
off the ships because of the size, and you know,
they pull up and dock right in these small little
towns and villages along the river, so you're you're stepping off,
you're right near things. It's not like you're taking shuttle
buses hours to get into a city, or we'll go
(02:48):
and do some shopping or hit a cafe or anything
like that. So it really a very intimate experience and
people really enjoy that. I think it's one of the
reasons river cruising has taken off so much.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
I mean, get me wrong, I love an ocean cruise,
but river cruising is a whole different beast, and the
size of the passenger list is often matched by the staff,
so there's an incredibly high level of service on these
trips just like you will feel special.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Trust me on that.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
And before we get back to the destinations, Doug, I
want to make one point. You know, we have a
lot of people already booked on this trip because they've
traveled with us previously, and I think that that is
kind of a testament to how cool and how good
these trips are. How many people do we have and
how much space do we have left right now?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Yeah? Absolutely, after you all get back from Japan and
where it was out, we sold a good chunk of
it already, so we actually had gone back and gotten
some war cabins from the cruise line. So we've got
thirty five or thirty six people sold already, and I
think we've got room for you know, sixty eight or
so something like that, so we're well on our way.
(03:53):
I'm glad. I'm glad that there's such a lot of
demand that it so far.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Let me ask the question about singles, because I've been
getting a lot a lot of questions about single travelers.
What kind of single options, if any, do we have left.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
I think we still have a couple. We're always a
little bit limited as to how many cabins we can
get for singles, or even even hotel rooms for singles.
So if anyone is thinking of going as a single,
they definitely need to let us know that as soon
as possible and get signed up because it is limited.
But I think we can still accommodate a few more
singles if anyone is out there. I know we've got
(04:28):
a couple already booked for sure.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Okay, perfect, So Friday October. We actually leave Thursday, October
eighth of next year, October of twenty twenty six, so
you've got a full year to get ready for this trip.
We arrive in Zurich, we're not there very long because
we're going to zip on down to Lake Lucern, which
is absolutely gorgeous. As Douges said, we went there on
our trip to Switzerland previously, and it is just like
(04:51):
this little adorable town on this lake with this big
giant bridge that everyone goes to see and the history
is fantastic. Then we're going to go to Basil, Switzerland
and bark on the Emerald down sailing first to the
capital of the Black Forest as it's known.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
That's Freeburg.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Now.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
I think this is where I bought a cuckoo clock
many many years ago. Is that kind of what you
get in the Black Forest?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Doug. Absolutely, that's one of the things that's known for
for sure. And you know that's really your touching on
something great here, Mandy, that you know, you really get
immersed in the local cultures and what these areas are
all known for. So it's uh, you know, it's cuckoo
clocks are duftely if people want to see them or
possibly purchase one. That's one of the things that the
(05:36):
Black Forest area.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
We love ours and this is one of those things
that this is one of those trips where you can
do a guided tour where you can do, you know,
things with a big group. They also have a bike adventure.
Chuck and I have ridden down the Danube River and
I'm not sure I could talk them into doing this one,
but I'm going to work on them to see what
happens there. So there's options on these trips that we
often don't talk about. Then we go to Keel or Stroburg.
(06:00):
Tell me about this because this is one area that
I haven't been to.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, this is you know an area of Strasburg is
very very quaint and beautiful and you know also area
the oursel's wine region is here as well, so you
know there's in all these areas. You know a lot
of the folks like, oh there's German beer, which is
certainly there's plenty of German beer, but you know you'll
get to see some of the local wineries too. But
(06:27):
Strasburgh a beautiful spot that I think everyone will enjoy
as well.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
My favorite favorite sparkling wine of all time comes from
this region. I believe it's a Kremont Della sauce. So
I'm going to be dipping into the wine. Even then,
don't drink wine much anymore because it doesn't like me
as much.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
As it used to be.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Then we go onto Heidelberg, which is absolutely beautiful. The
Heidelberg Castle is one of the excursions, and I'm going
I've been three or four times previously, I'm going back again.
It just makes you realize we just don't have that
long history here in the United States. It's one of
those things that you see and just go wow.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
So tell me what am I missing in Heidelberg.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
No, well, you're you're touching on it, for sure. The
Heidelberg Castle is fantastic, and you know you've got these
walled medieval cities that have been there for centuries, and
this is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites that
that will be along this cruise too, and that's something
that you know, most of these river cruises touch on
one or two of them, but we have a couple
(07:28):
of this one for sure, So it's it's a great
thing that you can get it too, some of these
very well preserved and protected historical sites across Europe.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Then we go to Kopeland's which is past another UNESCO
where World Heritage Site on this and that's the Upper
Middle Rhine Valley. One of the things about river cruising
that's wonderful is you always have scenery. What is the
scenery in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, it's beautiful. I mean there's vineyards, there's there's castles.
Even if people you know, are tired one day and
they don't want to do much in a poor except
to walk off and maybe go get a coffee or something,
you're you're seeing the scenery as you're sitting, you know,
in your cabin or or in the lounge or something
like that. So it's it's spectacular scenery and you know,
(08:14):
very much in the countryside. But but you'll see these
these old medieval towns and in cities up on the hillside,
and you know these rivers were or how people got
in and out of these places for years and years.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Then we're off to Cologne and Dusseldorf. I've not been
to Cologne, but I have been shopping in Dusseldorf, so
I feel like I've got half this one down.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Absolutely absolutely, And you know here you're starting to get
into more of that that German culture here for sure,
which people will enjoy.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
And we ended the trip in Amsterdam. We're going to
do a tour in Amsterdam, but then we have an
extra day there. It looks like or we dark in
the morning. Is that how that looks?
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Yep? Yep, So people actually, you know, we'll end up
flying out of Amsterdam, but the ship gets in and
we are you know, overnight there, so we have a
full day as in Amsterdam, and you know the ship
will still be serving as our hotel theres, so if
people have not been to Amsterdam, they'll definitely have time
to you know, to see that beautiful city. And you
(09:14):
know there's all kinds of canals and little boat cruise
as you can do in Amsterdam or a very nice
walkable city or as you mentioned, the nice place where
certainly a great pace to do some biking if people
are up for that.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Well, I can't wait to see Amsterdam sober, Doug.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
So that'll be an exciting.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Absolutely do it'll be a different perspective.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
One of the things I love about these trips, Doug,
is that you guys really take care of everything. So
if somebody wants a vacation where they don't have to
do anything but sign up, make sure their documents are
in order, like their passports and all.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
That good stuff.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
You get to the airport, you drop your bags and
everything is taken care of.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
That is what this trip is. So what is included here.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Absolutely and you know, on the cruise ships, if people
having cruis, you know, meals are included. We decided to
include a drink package here for people too, so they
can have you know, wine or beer or a drink
during the cruise. And but we also don't want people
to ever feel like they're being nickeledon dives, so we
always take care of the gratuities for the staff. People
are always confused how much should I tip this person
(10:18):
or that person? Same thing with the drivers and the
local guides, so we've taken care of all that. We'll
have a cruise and to our person with your group
from the start to finish, and they're taking care of
as well. So as you said, really, once people get
to Denver Airport and get checked in for the flight,
they don't have anything to worry about till they get back,
(10:39):
all right.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
One thing I would say is that, as we said
earlier in the interview, there are already about half the.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Slots are taken by prior travelers.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
And if that's not an endorsement of the Mandy Connell Adventure,
I don't know what is. Because these people that have
signed up have already been on one of our trips
before and they're.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Coming back for more. So absolutely I would say go ahead.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
If you want to see more about the trip and
you want to see some images of the towns, of
the ship all that stuff, you can go to mandycarnelltrip
dot com and check it out. But I would not
spend a whole lot of time thinking this over because
we've kind of already maxed out the number of cabins
and things like that that we can get, so when
they're gone, they're gone, and I've had so many people
(11:21):
email me in the last two weeks about, Hey, when
are you going to announce another trip?
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I really want to go. So today's the day.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Yeah, oh absolutely. Well then, you know, as we said earlier,
we one hundred and eighty people. You know, we can't
take more than seventy. I know that for sure. So
and you know what thing we didn't touch on the
weather this time. You're Mandy's ideal. I know that's one
of the Oh yes, you chose this time. You know,
very comfortable for people fifties, low sixties. So it's it's
great sight seeing weather and u and very pretty in
(11:50):
this region as well during the fall.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
I've swore never to go to Europe for vacation in
the summer again. I've just until they get hit with
the air conditioning. I'm good to go in October.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
All right, you can call it cruis. Yeah, call Cruising.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Tour directly today one eight hundred three eight three thirty
one thirty one. That's eight hundred three eight three thirty
one thirty one. Or Mandyconnell Trip dot com. That's Mandy
Connell trip dot com. But go ahead and take care
of it. Doug, I cannot wait for this trip. I'm
so excited. I'm excited that my mom and my daughter
are going the last trip that's the queue will go
(12:23):
with on with us with us because she'll be in
college after this, so she's gonna have to pay for
her own vacations.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Well that'll be extra special then, So thank thank you
very much for having me on the show, Mandy.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
All Right, Dug, thanks so much, and for all you
guys do a Cruisin tour. Thank you for everything. And
this trip's going to be so awesome you guys. Anyway,
moving on, got a lot of stuff on the blog
today that has nothing to do with No Kings, so
you guys were kind of cracking me up on the
text line. The phone number eight hundred three, eight three
