Speaker 1 (00:05):
All right, eight forty eight, it's a golf show. Sports
Radio AM seven sixty the ticket. This week we saw
the debut of the TGL event at Sofi Golf Stadium
in Florida, and Olberg's team won, and they've had this
little competition in the simulator and all that kind of stuff.

(00:26):
I didn't get to see it because I had a
game that night. The TSA was playing basketball that night,
but I did see highlights of it and the recap
on Sports Center and all that stuff. I am for
anything that promotes golf. And if somebody watches this and goes, wow,
that looks like fun, then let's go. Let's go to
the driving range, let's go get lessons, let's play golf.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
This entire show.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
When Buddy Cook and I sat down in nineteen ninety
six and mapped out this show, the theme of it
and still to this day, is if we can promote golf,
We're going to promote golf through this radio show. And
everything I've ever talked about on this show or any
other is for the promotion of golf. I don't like Live,
I don't like what it stands for. I don't like
the exhibition that it is and I don't watch it,

(01:10):
but if it helps people want to watch golf and
play golf, then great. And I kind of feel the
same way about TGL. It's not to me something that
I would want to invest a lot of money in.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I would say time in.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
I may watch it if there's nothing else on a
Tuesday night when I don't have a game or something.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
But here's the biggest thing. Is I prefer playing golf
then watching golf.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Now that doesn't mean I don't watch a golf I
do watch a lot, and especially PGA Tour events and
Majors and Sunday afternoons and even last night during breaks,
I was flipping over to the from the football game
to the golf channel to see what was going on
in a wife for a few minutes, I listened to
it on the radio. I like the ExM coverage that

(01:55):
they have of the PGA Tour. But here's my biggest
issue about the TGL thing. You and I can't go
play it. We can't go to Florida and pay a
fifty dollars green fee or one hundred dollars green fee
and spend an hour in the simulator and other than
Augusta in a handful of golf courses where majors are played,
maybe a few other PGA Tour events.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
It might be expensive, but.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
There's no golf course or very few golf courses on
the PGA Tour that you can't play. And we talked
about Pebble Beach. Yeah, it's expensive. It's six hundred and
fifty bucks to play, and it's another thousand to stay
in the hotel that night, and you have to stay
in the hotel if you want an advanced tea time.
So the golf package, I think is about twenty five
twenty eight hundred bucks for two rounds of golf and
two nights in the hotel. But at least I can

(02:40):
do that if I want to invest that money into it.
But there's no amount of money apparently that I can
pay to go play simulator golf at the TGL Stadium
or the Sofi Stadium, And I think that's one of
the things for me. If I can't play the golf course,
then I am not as in love with it as
I would be otherwise. I would love to go to

(03:01):
the Masters once, but I'm not paying ticket scalper prices
to go to the Masters. If I win the lottery
and I can pay one hundred bucks to go to
the Masters. I'm going to the Masters. But and if
a member wants to invite me to play the golf course,
I'm all in. But I prefer a lot of the
golf courses in Scotland because I can go and play them.
There is a green fee that can be paid and

(03:22):
I can go play it, whereas Augusta and a couple
other courses out there are going to say sorry, unless
you're with a member and the member pays for you
to be here, you can't be here.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Well, I'll have to admit I'm like you. I did
not watch it, but not because I chose not to
watch it. I forgot it was on, to be honest with.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
You, because it's on Tuesday night, not Thursday through Sunday
where most tournaments are, so I.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Didn't see it live either. But I'm kind of well.
And from what I've heard from the comments on XM
Radio on the PGA Tour radio, most of us older
folks didn't seem to think it was very great, but
it's really popular with younger.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Folks absolutely, and they may they may play.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Golf at some point, yes, And it looks like fun.
And you can go to other places and play simulator golf.
There are places out there where you can go, I mean,
but not that particular venue. We can play simulator golf
on our simulators in our shop.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
I just choose not to. I don't.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I don't think it's fun. I have a hard time
with it, and it's just not for me. But next
week when Tiger's doing it, when he's on, I'll watch
Tiger and Rory. I'm watching.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
I've watched it, and uh just I will tell you
I I had a conversation with with Keith about this.
I watched it and I told Keith immediately, I said,
it's not from It's not it's not going to wear hues.
Oh yes it is. He said, between twenty and fifty.
It's gonna kill They're gonna kill it. And I started
thinking differently when he said that, and I go, yeah,

(05:07):
I think you're right, you know, I said, he said,
But he said he look, if you liked to play
music when you're playing golf, and you like to bet
on golf, and blah blah blah the other four or
five different things. He goes, this is going to be
a hit and he said they need to make some changes.
For for example, he said one of the things he said,
you need to get Bryson on there. Yeah, good, forget
the lifting. Brighton's got to be a team and Bryce

(05:28):
On would be a field day there. Could he eat
social media superstar. I don't know if you see I
don't know if you saw the recent thing he did.
He got some other guy to come up to his house,
hit over his house and offered him one hundred thousand
dollars to get a hold of one, and he got
a hold of six, six shots.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
He gets a hold on one. You know. So that's
a big thing on social media right now.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Bryce has got more followers on YouTube than the PGA tour.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Does you need John Daly on there? You know you
need somebody can talk. There's only a fifteen hundred seats
in a thing. And I guarantee you that first night
you probably couldn't. You couldn't probably walk up the door
and get a ticket. It was all invitation only. Probably,
So they're not making money on the attendance thing. You're
making money to investment and you're.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Getting you're making money on social media and TV and
yeah and put hey have a team where you have
two guys on a gal from a LPGA tour, or
maybe two girls and a guy, and maybe you have
maybe you have really Tavigno with a couple of senior
guys on there against the PJ. You talk the whole time.
I have to have personalities on there for it to work. Well,
here's the thing. We've talked about this many times. Golf

(06:26):
is three things that require to have fun and be
good at it. You have to have time to play it.
A round of golf is four and a half hours.
I don't care where you're playing. It is expensive. It
is an expensive hobby and most people can't afford to
have other things if they're going to invest that in there.
So you got the time and the expense, and you've
got to work at it. You got to go practice
if you're going to get good at it. And again

(06:48):
that goes back to the time factor, and a lot
of twenty to forty year olds don't have time, don't
want to spend that much money, and don't want to
do it, and so they kind of flame out at
an early age. Because this is kind of a lesson
in futility. If you don't have all of those things.
But I can see the twenty year old going. I
only have to watch for an hour and a half.

(07:08):
I'm entertained, and I get to see some great golf shots.
And oh, by the way, it's just like watching a
football game because I'm never playing football in Cherry world,
and that's kind of an audience I think.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
That it is.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
And the two commentators they had on ESPN, I've never
seen them. I don't know who they were. They were
terrible and there's they need to fix that. All right, guys,
thanks so much. We'll see in a month or so
and continued success and PJ Show's coming up. We'll learn
all about that next month.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
All right. That'll wrap things up for today.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
