Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome back to the Ticket seven sixty Golf Show. This
is David when you els did for Andy Everett. Andy
is on the road with UPSA Football. They're up in Denton,
Texas where at the Road Roaders take on North Texas.
Pregame at twelve thirty, kickoff at two thirty. Right here
on sports Radio AM seven sixty The Ticket. We're welcoming
back and other guests with us from Canyon Springs Golf Course.
He is the owner of Total Golf Performance and his

(00:25):
name is Mark Jay Caldwell. Mark, good morning. How are
you this morning? Sir?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Hey, good morning David. I'm doing great. It's a bet
you full morning for Saturday golf.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
There you go. It's a very very nice day. Yes, absolutely,
a little bit on the human side. When I went
out for my walk this morning, it was seventy five degrees,
which I thought it might be in the sixties again.
But it's okay. We're still here. We made it and
we're still breathing. Let's talk about what you have going
on at there a Total Golf Performance Academy.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Well, David, you know, we are a full service academy.
We work with adults, juniors, we do clinics every Saturday
sun we offer free assessments for all players so we
can get an idea of what direction we need to go.
And we do that for you know, a lot of
times people get caught up with trying to hit the
ball too hard. And you know, as as golf instructors,

(01:14):
we're trying to teach you to swing the club. So
so we uh, we got a full, full variety of
custom fitting, flight scope, three D mapping, you name it,
we've got it.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Mark Jay Cobbles our guest. Right before we get into
some of this club fitting and so forth, I've got
a question for you regarding uh, you know those and
there are quite a few players of course that are
that are out there weekend hackers and so forth. But
but let's say, for example, we have problems with swaying.
What I'm getting to is this, as a right headed player,
you're addressing the ball. You're supposed to make the full turn,

(01:49):
but keep the right leg straight. In other words, it's
not supposed to sway. But what is the remedy for
stopping that instance? In other words, so you're right, I
mean your left leg of cowards, it's coming back. It's
all the way turning back around as you make your
back swing. But a lot of times the right leg
sways also and shouldn't. What's the best way to stop that.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
So one of a quick fix that we everyone has
easy access to is just take a range bucket and
put it between your knees and that'll get you turning
and less swaying.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
That's something that I never heard of years ago. I
heard about maybe getting a golf ball out of your bag,
putting it underneath the right side of your foot, and
that'll keep you also from swaying, But I never heard
the one about the bucket. That's something to you.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, yeah, because I mean, you know, we use a
lot of it in our junior programs and it really
helps because it you know, so depending on how you know,
Like for you, David, I'd have to get one of
what we call our teaching buckets because it's an extra
large bucket because you're a tall job. But when I'm
working with juniors, I mean we may use a range bucket.
If we're working with teenagers, we may use a soccer

(02:57):
ball or a basketball. Very interesting, and that keeps you
in your posture so the body can rotate the efficient.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
How about that. Okay, club fitting for butters and wedges
talk about that.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
So you know, it's funny everybody gets all caught up
with club fitting, in which I do agree. If you're
going to play this game, you better be fitted to
your clubs and you need to pay attention to number one,
what shoes you're wearing when you got fitted, and make
sure that you stay in that type of shoe. You
don't see Scottie Scheffler or Rory changing the type of

(03:33):
golf shoe they're wearing week in and week out. They're
wearing the same shoe in different colors. So when we
get into club fitting, that's that is my number one
hot hot topic because it just drives me nuts when
we see people who want to get better, want to play,
but you know they're all about how they want to look. Well,
that's that's why you can't break eighties. So from clubfitting,

(03:55):
you know, the putter's the one club we use on
every hole. Now, as a young Marissa Lloy would tell me,
but coach, what if I chip in? So you need
to get fitted for your putter because if you look
at tour players when they're putting, they are further away
from the ball than we think. And there's some old

(04:15):
cliches that I totally disagree with, especially when it comes
to putting. And let's get your eyes over the ball. Okay,
if my eyes are over the ball at ninety degrees
and my putters at seventy, how can I arc that
putter correctly? So we need to be for if anyone
who's five eight and taller, we need to be a
minimum three putter heads from our left foot.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Very good information.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
That'll put your T twelve thorastic on the same plane
as your putter. Now you're going to have one hundred
percent control of your putter.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Mark Jay Colblolls our guest, and uh, you know you
deal with a lot of juniors out there of course,
and talk about Total Golf Junior Tour.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
So you know, I'm you know, as a as a
twenty five year quarter century remember the FUGA of America
and being around the industry since I was thirteen. I've
been playing since I was four. I'm worried about the
state of the game for juniors right now, and to
do something about it, I formed my own tournament organization

(05:21):
called Total Golf Junior Tour. We live stream these tournaments
on through YouTube. We do pre round and post round interviews.
And I've recently received my nonprofit for the Love of
Golf because we're going to go in and the foundation
is going to pay for every kid to play golf

(05:43):
in tournaments what so. And with that, we have the
Universal Golf Rankings already given us player points and status
on their new ranking systems.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Mark Jake Clodez our guests, and right before we wrap
up up here, I know you've had the pleasure of
traveling literally all over the world because of what you do.
Tell us briefly, maybe in about a minute or so,
what you have done this year in terms of where
you've been.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
So this year has been a little bit more quiet.
I have been to a few. I think I've been
the five live events this year. I do have with
my partner with the Total Golf Junior Tour, he works
for Live Media, so we have media credentials. I got
to visit with Bryce and back in August to set
up a formal interview that we have coming up and

(06:34):
right before Thanksgiving. So we're just trying to get some
names behind what we're trying to do because the game
is expensive and we don't want to take the game
away from the kids. We're just going to We're basically
just going to buy out golf courses for the afternoon
so these kids can play golf in a tournament format,
have fun, get their interaction skills, and do some interviews

(06:59):
and get it all on YouTube.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Mark Jay Could was our guest and rock you mentioned
Brason D. Shambo tell us about the pros and cons
of youngsters that might try to basically imitate his swing
and how hard he swings.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Don't, please don't. Let's go back to that first statement.
Has golf instructors were trying to teach you to swing
the golf club, not hit the ball. So I think
the hardest thing working with girls is way way easier
because they understand form guys. They see the ball and
they want to know how far can I hit it?

(07:34):
So we struggle a lot with that and with Happy Gilmour.
This summer, every kid, I've got probably six drivers on
my work bench that I got to repair because they
broke the heads off. Yeah, it's trying to control high
school kids from swinging hard and just trust that if
I can find the center of the face at a

(07:54):
tempo that I can control with my body. I'm going
to maximize my bass and I'm going to be very
very efficient.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
If anyone would like to get a hold of you
to set up a time for a lesson, how is
the best way to do that?

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Well, David, for your guest, we always just we always
offer free golf assessments and to find us, we're at
two one zero eight six three four six five three

Speaker 1 (08:22):

is out, at least once or twice more, who knows,
But best of luck to you out there. We'll see
you soon, all right, happy Saturday. Thank you very much,
Mark JA Caldwell from Canyon Springs and the Total Golf Performance.
It is a fantastic having himount all the time. With
some great insight coming up. Nets to be chatting with

(08:42):
one of the legendary instructors, one of the top one
hundred instructors in the US. It'll be Brian Gath right
next up on the to a good seven to sixty
golf show.
