our discussion for just a second to finish this up.
The other thing that Rory I think sometimes forgets is
that not every player that plays professional golf flies flies privately.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
A lot do, but some do not.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
And it's a lot easier to jet set around the
world when you are a member of the rich and
famous and have a Gulf Stream parked in the backyard
and those of you that don't.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
So that's another thing to think about. No, it's a
lot easier.

That's that's that's actually, that's the way to fly, if
you ever get a chance.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I've never I've never.

I've flown on team charters and things like that, but
never a private private plane. But if I ever win
the lottery, that's the splurgs that I'm going to have.
I remember they go really fat.

said the best three hundred and I ever spent was
for seventy five hours on net jets.

We were talking earlier about fitting golf clubs, and as we age,
we tend to hit it shorter, and people wonder why.
And I think there's two reasons why. One has to
do with agronomy. I think that and this is distance
with kit with roll. I grew up playing a golf
course in Oklahoma that was basically hard panned from ninety

percent of the year. Grass just didn't grow in the
summer and it was frozen tund around the winter, and
so you hit it out there to seventy five and
it would roll three fifty. There was a couple of
part fives that you could hit nine irons into if
you got the right bounce. And I go back occasionally
and play those same golf courses, and now they figured
out a way to grow grassy in clay and they

have made it to where it lands it does roll
very far no matter what time of year it is.
But the other part of that is is that our
carry distance goes. And this is something that I've had
to learn in fitness training and talking to golfers and
instructors and golf fitness people, is that we lose our
flexibility and the Flexibility comes in many different ways. It's
(02:12):
in how much of a turn can you make, how
high can you get your hands, how good is your footwork,
how much flexibility you have in your calves and in
your hamstrings. So you were talking about trying to get
your calves in shape with running and get them to
be a little bit more flexible. All of those things
are products of swing speed and the ability to get

the ball high and also carry the distance.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
That you're trying to achieve well.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
As we generally talk about fitness on this program, you know,
it's a never ending battle as you grow old or
to try to recapture things that you've lost with regard
to fitness. But you know my case, you know I
had to pretty much quit playing golf because of my bag,
(02:58):
but I continue to work at it to try to,
you know, continue to stay healthy, and it's been it's
been a battle.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Do you find that you just because you know that
it's going to hurt or that you can't make the
full swing?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Do you swing easier?
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Do you swing I know your your swing speed likely
is slower, but do you intentionally make it slower or
do you swing as hard as you your body allows you?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
To swing.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Well, I still have an issue in one part of
my back. That's uh, that's hasn't that we haven't been
able to kind of put our finger on, so to speak.
So and it's a it causes a bit of a
bit of a it's a painful, you know issue when
I'm swinging on through the ball. But uh, and I
(03:41):
don't really like taking a lot of drugs. So that's
one reason I'm not playing. And it's just and flexibility
is I mean, I'm it's hard to move, you know,
so but I'm again it's it's just part of the deal,
you know. I mean, I accept that, that's part of
the deal. I play a lot of golf my life,
and it's just got to you got to move on
and figure it out, you know.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
But and well, what I was going to say is
I have been working with a personal trainer now for
about six months, okay, and I feel so much better now.
And what what it does for me is it allows
me to play multiple days in the week without hurting.
(04:29):
I used to just hurt all over what I a
year ago because I had gotten so out of shape
and I would be sore the next day. There was
no way I could play multiple days in a row.
Now I feel like I can do that. Has it
translated into more distance, maybe just a little bit, but
I still feel have it tho, Yeah, I have no
(04:52):
I have a lost I probably gained maybe five yards,
but it's I just feel that better and the swing
works better. I hit more consistent, solid shots, and it's
because my body is just working better. And it's a
lot to do with the core area of your body
(05:14):
for me. Yeah, that's the area, yeah, absolutely, and core legs,
and once you get those built up, you just feel
so much better. You feel freer out there on the
golf course, and it really helped.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Well.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
I have a hard time enjoying poor golf. There's a
lot of people that don't care what they shoot, and
more power to you. Go play, Go have fun, enjoy
the surrounding. You're outside, you're not working. I don't live
in that realm. If I play poorly, I don't want
to play right now. If I'm having a bad day
and I'm at nine over on the fourteenth hall, It's like,
when is this round going to end?
Speaker 2 (05:48):
So I can go do something else. And so the.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Commitment that I made to the fitness part and to
trying to eat as well as I can this time
of the year. That's even more differentficult is because ten
or fifteen years from now, I still want to be
able to break eighty and if I can't, it's not
going to be a lot of fun and I may
not play anymore. So that's the lesson.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
I think.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
If you don't care what you shoot, and you're just
out there having a good time, don't go to the gym.
Beat what you want, lose your flexibility, only hit it
two hundred.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
But there are a lot of people out there are
definitely that way, and I don't care who they.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
As long as you're playing golf, that's great because it
grows the game as.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Long as you're out there moving.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
But it's all about just stay staying mobile, moving, use
it or lose it.

dumbest idea I've ever seen for golf, and we'll talk
