Speaker 1 (00:03):
All right, eight forty nine, the golf show on the
ticket utsa football at twelve thirty today they take on
East Carolina, so headed to the dome shortly. All Right,
Sung Jam and Seawoo Kim are both of Korean descent,
and they have to do their military training.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Now.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Remember Sun Moon Bay a few years ago had to
stop playing pro golf, and we kind of haven't seen
much of him since then because he had to go
for twenty one months. But because they both won gold
medals in the twenty twenty three Asian Games, their service
was reduced from twenty one months to three weeks. And
that's one of the things why Tom Kim was so
(00:44):
emotional after finishing fourth in the Olympics last year, because
had he meddled, he would have only had to do
three weeks instead of twenty one months. Now Tom Kim
has another out. He could win in twenty eight or
thirty two, and still because he doesn't have to. He
doesn't reach thirty five until twenty thirty four, so he
(01:05):
has until twenty thirty four to fulfill his obligation. But
because he will age out, he has to go in
twenty thirty three, so he has two more chances to
avoid the full military deal, and so we'll see if
he does that coming up. But this is the reason
(01:26):
why golf is in the Olympics. And while I was
in the beginning back in twenty sixteen, I wasn't necessarily
on board with the fact that we are not necessarily
going to define greatness by how many gold medals you win,
because every four years, Scotti, Scheffler, Tiger, all those guys
are going to be judged by majors and PGA to
our wins. Countries will not fund the golf if it's
(01:48):
not an Olympic sport, especially.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
The countries like.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Korea and even China and Australia and India, a lot
of the African country they're not going to fund it
unless it's an Olympic sport. And this is another way
to grow the game.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
And you can.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Tell how much importance the rest of the world puts
on those international events. So interesting, congrats to those two guys.
All right, here's the dumb idea for a golf tournament.
So I saw this, I think it was a Sports
Illustrated article and they said, why doesn't the PGA Tour
intentionally play a tournament where the weather is not very
(02:28):
good and it's cold. So like play in Michigan in
November or play in Scotland in December. And the first
thought I first I thought I had is because nobody
would show up. That's why they don't. It's one thing
to play when it's hot. It's a totally different thing
to play when it's cold. And oh, by the way,
(02:51):
they do have the Open Championship, they have the Scottish Open,
they have the Irish Open, and even in July, you
can get weather that might turn out to be miserable,
as in case when Tiger did not win at Merefield
in two thousand and two the Saturday, the high was
forty three and the low was thirty four, and it
was basically a blizzard that no one was prepared for,
(03:14):
and he lost his chance to win the third leg
of the Grand Slam and maybe the entire Grand Slam
that year because.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
He got the brunt of the bad weather.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
So no, we do not need to play golf as
a PGA Tour player in cold, miserable weather, and we
don't need to play in conditions that we normally play in.
We want to see a well manicured, beautiful golf course.
And if you ever get a chance to play in
a pro am, like the day or two before they
play the championship, you will understand why it's a lot
(03:44):
easier to putt as a pro.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
As long as you can handle the.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Speed, the ball always rolls true, and I think that's
what most of us really want to see.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Well, don't they play.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
I mean there's plenty of times when they're at either
pebble or they can get cold there. Yeah, the winter time,
it is cold, I'm sorry, San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
In the summer time, the exactly play San Francisco Dunes
in May.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
As we know.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah, don't go to Banded Dunes in May. Pay the
extra and go in July. That would that would be
a nice place to play in February. Go to Abandon Dune. Yeah, no,
thank you, cold, I'm not doing that again.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
There was so much fun watching y'all on that cam. Yeah,
the first tea, it's blowing. Fifth flag was blowing nine.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Well, and we didn't even get to play Pacific Dunes,
which is supposed to be the best of all of them,
because it was it was a.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Rain, it was like a hurricane.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, So with thirty eight degree temperatures. No, thank you,
We're not doing that. No, so anyway, No, that's a
terrible idea. Let's let's put that on the shelf for
now and forever. Speaking of destinations to go, I keep
getting things popping up on my Facebook feed for the
Black Desert Resort in southern Utah, where the PGA Tour
(05:01):
played a Fall Series event. And the reason they did
is because that resort ponied up enough money to use
that as their marketing tool to get people like me
to go play there sometime.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
And the golf course looks spectacular.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
It's kind of like out of an old volcano with
the lava rock that kind of gardens the fairways. It
kind of looks something more out of Hawaii than it
does out of southern Utah.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
But it looks pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah, it looks like a cross between Sedona, Arizona and
Hawaii with no palm trees.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
It's very hot.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
So many good places beautiful, so many good places that
are popping up around the country that you know well.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
And the weather's really good there a lot of the year.
I have it's still on in the summer, but not
overly so I have some friends who just went out
there and they said it was fabulous. And there's not
only that one. There's about six or seven really good
golf courses right there in that area. It's around Saint George, Utah.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
And you fly into Vegas and it's an hour and
a half.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
You can fly to Vegas or you can fly They
said that American flies directly into Saint George, Utah.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Okay, well it's it's not rocket science. But if you
want to travel around the country, start traveling in October
and I'll.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Never get to do that. Sorry. My travels is.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
October November around the country. Is that is time to
go great anywhere?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Al boat?
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Yeah, unless there's a bye week in October that I know. Well,
in advance, we were just in Hints and Head and
it was fifty and seventy. I mean it was in
the forties on one morning on the beach. But that's
a little cool, No, it wasn't.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yeah, forty five.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Degrees on the beach with no wind is not cool.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
I'll tell you what though, good Old San Antonio. The
last three or four weeks, it doesn't get much better
than that.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Yeah, we've had really good good weather the last couple
of weeks, and I'm going to try in Michigan this summer.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
That's going to be the destination. Is awesome.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
I've never been to there, and the golf resorts there
looked great.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
So Michigan's going to be the destination.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Not overly and Siev and I need a little bit
longer to save up for another European adventure, but that's where.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
It's going to be. I think that's a good choice.
Maybe you could be part of Rory's world tour as
long as he lets me fly on the plane. I'm good.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Is there an extra seat on Errory, Then I'll go
wherever er Roy is going and we'll find it.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
We'll find a good place for that. Yeah, all right,
that'll wrap things up.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
