Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi everyone, It's Andy Everett. Enjoy this podcast version of
The Golf Show from Sports Radio AM seven sixty.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
The Ticket.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Now from sports Radio AM seven sixty to the Ticket.
This is another edition of The Golf Show. The Golf
Show brought to you by MK Golf Tech, Joe Caruso's
Golf Academy, and by Alamo City Golf Trail. Now on
the first t Andy Everett.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
It certainly is the Golf Show as we roll on
on this Saturday morning. It is the Genesis Open Underway
TV coverage doesn't start for about an hour on Golf Channel,
and Chris goddter Up will have the lead at eleven
under after a sixty one yesterday. This week it's Golf
Link Style this week at the Scottie Chopener.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Next week at the British Chapin. We'll get into all
of that.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
We've got live golf news, we've got some tips to
get to, and we've got all kinds of stuff going on.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
In the world of golf.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Joe Caruso, Joe Caruso Golf kekud to me out at
the Sam Pedro driving Range. In Part three, joins us Welcome,
How are things with you?

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
It's going really well.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Andy, thank you a lots, I'm sure lots of lessons.
And I went to San Pedro Thursday night, I guess
and hit some balls and had to wait about twenty
minutes before there was a spot to hit.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
But doing well out there too.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
It's doing really well. It's summer. It's our summer camps.
The we've teamed up with Nike over the last two
years as second year. You know, last week we had
sixteen kids. This week coming up we have twenty nine.
And golf is really good. It's oursing. It's still a

(01:42):
booming sport. And it's not just in the US. I
think it's worldwide.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
When I was in Scotland a month and a half ago,
the golf courses, all the tea times were full, didn't
matter what the weather was. There's golf clubs in Scotland
that you wouldn't think that much of, but they have
a waiting list for you to become a member.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
You can't play sam Pedro without a tea type. Oh
I know, yeah, think that you can't. I grew up
playing par threes.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Right you can, like in December when it's about sixty
degrees on a Sunday afternoon and it's kind of kind
of a north wind where it's a little chilly. That's
about the only time you can sneak on. Yeah, but
that's good for the game of golf. I just hope
we don't have any I hope we start to. I
don't know if we need them or not, but it

(02:30):
seems like we could use a few more golf courses.
And we talked about several times. In the last ten years.
You've had the Palmer Course in Wood Lake and Pecan
Valley and and I'm sure Northcliff others that have closed,
but we need to get some of those back.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Well.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
I know will is opening up here pretty soon, probably,
you know, sometime probably August probably, Yeah, maybe sooner.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
That'll be big.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
I'm very excited to be see that new type of
grasp handle the gray water really well. So I think
Willow's going to be fantastic. And then that helps that
You're right, Andy, I mean, we've lost a few golf
courses and now we meet them back.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Republic, Well, I forgot about that one. It's in the
in that mixes too. I think it's six and I'm
blanking on the other one. But I know northcliff Wood Lake,
Palmer Course, Pecon Valley in Republic. So there's a we
need some more We need to get some more golf courses,
and hopefully we can figure out a business model that
works where everybody can enjoy that. All right, I want

(03:36):
to start the show with something, and I'm not going
to spend a ton of time on this, but the
last time you were here, you and I got into
the discussion about the golf ball rollback, and you and
I are both on the same page. It's the dumbest
idea that the USGA and the RNA I've ever had.
And there's two things. There's two schools that thought I
wanted this. I was having a conversation with someone the
other day, and they believe that the USGA and the

(03:59):
RNA are trying to protect Marion the old course. Golf
courses that you can't really expand more than about seven
thousand yards. Mirfield is one. When I was there, they
were talking about the fact that the RNA wants them
to add distance, and they're going to have to acquire
land if they're going to add distance.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
And my thought is is who cares what the score is?

Speaker 1 (04:22):
It's an iconic tournament at an iconic golf course, and
if the wind blows over twenty, the scores are going
to take care of themselves.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
And I don't care where you play.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
They're playing at corn Ferry Tournament in Colorado this week
where the distance is eight thousand yards. But a guy
that hits at three hundred is going to hit it
three fifty in Colorado, regardless of what golf ball you have.
So is it time that we just say, okay, they
were not going to go back to these venues or
who cares if the score is twenty under?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
I like both. I think.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
You know, And there's some great golf courses that are
being built right now. You had Tiger's doing some exceptional
jobs on a couple of golf courses that he's got
out there, like Blue Jack out in Houston.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
I mean, why not?

Speaker 4 (05:06):
I mean, we don't have to go back to these
iconic places like I've been to Marion three times. All right,
it's short, It's always going to be short. It will
be short even if you roll the ball back short.
So and then you have to make it, you know,
you have to trick it up to make these guys
not shoot sixty so look, you know we need to

(05:29):
stop this. Golfers are our number one player in the world. Well,
how tall is it six'? Five come, on he's an.
Athlet guys are getting, bigger they're, stronger they're. Faster but
you know it's, Interesting, andy the golf ball isn't going
any further right.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Now it's going last by about a year and a, half.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Right so they need to stop this. Nonsense and if you,
want in, fact these guys are. Great instruction is, great,
workout people are. Great everything is.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Great and if you want to look at THE Us
open every, year then Play. Oakmont it's seventy four hundred,
yards which is a long golf, course and they're the
fairways and the winning scores one under.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Part and that's the way you do.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
It And i've played the old course now six times
and the last TIME i played a month and a half,
ago it was literally blowing forty most of the, day
and that golf course was as hard a golf course
as you'd ever want to. Play when it's not, windy
it's not. Hard but that's the defense of.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Links.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Golf marion would be hard in a forty mine hour,
Wind it's not that. Hard when it's blowing, ten because
these guys can maneuver the ball through. It AND i
saw this article and it was on a golf magazine last,
night and they, said, well there's three things that they
believe is going to. Happen either it goes into effect
and they do, it they delay.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
It or they.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Or THE Us open And British open play with a
different golf ball than all the rest of golf. Tournaments oh,
whatever that's not going to. Happen but the one thing
that you brought up and That i've kind of been
on this bandwagon with you as. Well none of these
articles are saying who's making the ball, right where's it coming?
From and you pointed out That titleist and Shricks on

(07:13):
And Taylor made And callaway and all those guys that
make golf balls spend hundreds of millions of dollars on
research and development to build the optimum golf ball with
the idea that they're going to sell them for sixty
dollars a dozen and make their money. Back how do
you make money on a golf ball that you can't.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Sell you can't sell. It tour players get about three
to four dozen golf balls per.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Week, well and it's not just it's just not THE Pga.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Tour there's eight or nine tours out, there and there's
one hundred plus players in each. One you, know we're
talking about ten thousand dozen golf balls a.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
Week you got it THE, lpga you have The Espin,
Tour you've Got Australasian Cordon Ferry, tour you Got, australia
you got The Asian, Tour you've Got, european you got
Thirst Secondary. TOUR i, Mean i'm, sorry it's Pro golfers
don't pay for. Golf call make the golf, ball, Right
who's going to make? It and then how do you market?

Speaker 1 (08:08):
It and then you can't sell it because who wants
to play a Golf all that goes, shorter.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
You would have to roll the ball back on, Everybody,
yes you me. Everybody and somebody that swings at ninety
would have more would have a harder time getting distance
than somebody that swings one hundred and.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Twenty, yes.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
It would affect the pros by four. Yards it would
affect the amateur golfer by.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Twenty look the PROBLEM i have with THE usga IS
i call them tight, shirts all, right AND i should
take a video of the driving range on A thursday Or,
wednesday and look at all these people you're going to. Affect,
yes all, right they're having a great time with the.
Sport leave it. Alone keep the ball where it is right.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Now it's.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Fine, yeah all, right tweak, it but don't make it. Longer,
no don't make you. Can't it's not going any. Longer
What i've been, told What i've, read it's not going any.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Longer so just leave it. Alone, yeah move.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
On it's interesting that baseball has a pitch clock and
a juice a juice. Ball whether you like it or,
not the ball's. Juice they wind the, ball the rubber bands.
Tighter football has gotten rid of. Defense basketball you don't
play defense until the. Playoffs and all three of those
sports are somewhat. Thriving, oh but let's have less offense in.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Golf, yeah let's.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Say let's take it all away so we can keep you,
know some of these you know kind of golf courses
which are just.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
BEAUTIFUL i, go but you got THE.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
Us open playing, that you got best page coming, up,
yes which is The Rider. Cup, yeah it's the hardest
golf course that you're going to, Play and it's a
public golf.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Course i've been. THERE i watched THE Us open, there.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
And they're going To marion in a couple of. Years,
okay if it's, windy it's going to be even. Par
and if you've been there are the, fairways it's going
to be close to. That if it's a, calm, sunny,
bright beautiful, day somebody's going to sixty.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Five it doesn't matter who it is this thing. Anymore
there's gonna be one of these great. Players, NOW i
mean we were talking about. Yesterday if you look at
during The tiger era and you look at where's the
who's playing? Now from one you can even throw the
live guys in. There one to fifty is a lot

(10:21):
different than the one to fifty during The tiger. Era
these guys from one to, fifty all of them are.
GREAT i think it's one to one hundred and. Twenty,
YEAH i mean they're. Great and the, again there's a.
Team the instruction is. Incredible the all the information on

(10:42):
instruction is, incredible from THREE d to force plates and so.
On and the workout guys and, WOMEN i mean THE pt.
WORK i, mean come, on well you have that.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Stuff you see athletes who are coming to you for
lessons or for other people for. Lessons and at some
point mom and dad, said you know, WHAT i want
to introduce you to, golf AND i hope you get
interested into it Because i'd really like you to have
seven concussions before you.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Get through with high school.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Football and, yeah you can get injured playing, golf and
you can have back, injuries but if you if you
work out, properly if you swing, properly that can be.
Prevented but you're not gonna mess up your head playing
golf very.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Often.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
NOW i think he'd, LIKE i just got this new
junior player. Yesterday they're From Eagle. Pass all, RIGHT i,
go what other sports have you? PLAYED i played soccer
AND i played. Football and he's like five to nine
and he first, SWING i thought the turf was going
to come off the, GROUND i mean the artificial. Turf the,

(11:44):
speed the power was extreme and he's just starting to.
Play he's only been in it for a. Year so
where did that come?

Speaker 2 (11:52):
From from?

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Football it came from his legs are, big, obviously that's
got to be coming from soccer and. Stuff so you,
know there's some baseball players that are now playing. Golf
the hand speed is. Incredible all.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Right coming, up we're going to talk more about the
Scottis chopa and at The, renaissance also The british next
week At Royal Port. Rush i'm on This facebook. Page
