Speaker 1 (00:02):
All right, it's the Golf Show on the tik visiting
with everyone from MK Golf, Keith Becker, Martin Valier, and
Kurt James. The controversy this week is that Rory McElroy
skipped the Memphis Tournament. Basically, the reason why he did
is because he doesn't like the golf course. He shot
a million there last year, and he doesn't have to
because he's likely not going to finish, you know, outside

(00:23):
the top three or four going into the tournament next
week in Baltimore, and certainly he's going to make Atlanta.
He could skip next week too if he wanted to,
although he's planning on playing. I think golf needs to
go back to something different. Golf is not a team sport.
Golf is not the We don't have a Super Bowl
or a World Series or an NBA Championship, and I

(00:45):
think the I think Scotty Scheffler is the FedEx Cup champion.
I don't care what he does the next two weeks.
To me, Scotty Scheffler's had the best year. You could
argue that Rory's right there with him winning the finally
winning the Majors, and if in the next couple of tournaments,
maybe he makes a den and who.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Gets Player of the Year.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
From that standpoint, but the idea that we're going to
cut this field down to thirty golfers in two weeks
go to Atlanta, and Scotty's gonna go into that tournament
number one, and whoever's number thirty could win the tournament
and win the FedEx Cup over Scotty Scheffler. If Scotty finishes,
say second or third. And I like the way it
used to be where Steve Sans would set up there

(01:26):
with the board and say, all right, here's the guy
in first place, and this is the guy that can
win the Tour championship. And a lot of people are
confused by that, but Steve had it figured out and
he explained it beautifully. So let's just go back to that,
or let's do something different than what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
And if we're.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Gonna continue to do it this way, I don't see
why we should make somebody play in a tournament on
a golf course they don't like and are going to
get into a bad habit, and that's the main reason
why Roy didn't play. So if we're gonna make them
play in this tournament or you're out of the FedEx Cup,
then playing in the tournament, you should move more than

(02:04):
one or two spots if you don't play well.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah, well I just I just watched the FedEx The
f One movie, which was really good, by the way,
if nobody's ever seen it, but it was really good.
But I think that after the regular season, if you're
gonna have FedEx Cup points and that ought to be
the FedEx Cup champion, if they're gonna get away from
they got it. They took they cut Scotty's handicap away. Yeah,

(02:28):
so he can't win it at the going into there
and have too shortly, which is kind of weird. Anyway, Yeah,
that wasn't great. I mean, I like the Tour Championship
in Atlanta, but they need to do something different for sure.
I don't know what different is, but but the thirtieth
player winning that, you know, I don't know, how.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
About you take the top seventy like they did this
week and let them play for two straight weeks. And
I also like the idea of match play, but the
reason television doesn't like match play and nothing against these
two players, they're really good players. But you know what
if you get Patrick Cantley and Russell Hilly in the final.
No one's going to turn on the TV so that

(03:10):
they want Rory, they want Scotty, they want the top
four or five players in the world to play all
weekend long so that they can get the most TV viewers.
But they got to continue to figure this out because
I think the guy that's somewhere between twenty five and
thirty could win in Atlanta, which and Scotty could finish
sixth and now he's not the FedEx Cup champion after
he's had a way better.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
Yeah, yeah, nobody could touch him.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
I mean, it's it's it's it's they need to do something.
I don't again, I don't know what it is, but
it's anti climactic from me right now, because I think
Scotty was, you know, had so many points at the
end of the Fedtesh Cup regular season, and I think
he needed to get some recognition for the points somehow, right,
maybe win. Maybe it'll be angry because they took an

(03:57):
any gap away. He'll win it anyway.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
He seemed happy.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Gilmore too, I have and I didn't like it. I mean,
obviously Scotty but did great. Scotty did good in that
day and Nicholas needs to take acting lessons.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yes, so do Shockley and more calid. They weren't very
good either because it was terrible. I thought will Zela
Taurus stole.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah, you know, yeah, well Fred Couples was good.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
To Fred was good. It was real.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
But I like that where Scotty's in jail and the
guy gets up, I'm going to change the chand he
goes sit on a shut up we're watching golf.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah, I know that he was great.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I bet he's a hoot in Highland Park or wherever
he goes.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah. All right.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
You asked a question during the break, and of course
one of the hot topics in the world these days
is what's going on with tariffs UH and how they
impact us in the future and hopefully they balance out
that everybody pays the same so that it's all a
fair trade situation. Is that affecting golf clubs and how
you are able to get that?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Have a question, and I'm going to pose it really
more to Kirk. You know we have we have not
discussed this, but so Kirk and I've been in this
business for twenty years and here's here's what a few
people ask me. You know whether or not it's going
to affect golf clubs and the price of the golf clubs. Well,
here's here's my here's my take. Golf clubs. New golf

(05:15):
clubs come out with Manufacturers come out with new club
about every eighteen months, two years, you know, every every
every time a manufacturer comes out with new club, the
price increases every time, right, right, So let's say pink driver.
So a handful of years ago, the pink driver was
five hundred I'm in a round up around down whatever.
Few years ago the driver was five hundred bucks, and

(05:38):
the next new vision comes out it was five fifty.
The next version comes out of with six hundred, right.
So my point is, I don't know why people would
get too worked up over maybe the price increase of
the price is going to increase anyway, nor ever going
up anyway. I mean, every single time we get a
price sheet from a manufacturer, the price has increased. I mean,

(06:00):
used to be the nine five, nine, nineteen for one,
irons are nine and seventeens or whatever the mo yeah,
the JPX, and then they were nine, they were they
were one hundred and thirty seven.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Now they've increased what fifty, Now they.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Went fifty and then there they My point is, folks,
it's terror for no terriff. The price of products are
going to increase every single version.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Here's here, it's the cost of the materials. Here's TV
used to go up consistently, and that's why they just
keep raising prices.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Here's my thought about it, to go down.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
I have an unlimited golf budget, and I often exceeded.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Yeah, so, I mean I just wanted I wasn't taking
up for anybody in particular any any I wasn't. You
know what, This is not a political issue. It's just
that the prices are in everything continue to go up.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
And cars.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
I was this person that you know, I mean, some
guy was trying to want to being drive cars. They're
six hundred dollars.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Well, I used to drive a Ford Expedition and when
they were forty five thousand. Now they're one hundred and five.
And it doesn't have a doorbell or a bathroom. I'm
not going to buy that.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Call exactly anyway. That was my point about that.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Yeah, so the golf, the golf club price is going
to go up regardless of what else happens politically or
if it depends.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
On where the product's coming from.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Sports sports products in general. I mean I was looking
at me. I like, I like handguns. I mean, I'm
a handgun guy. I was looking at some handguns I
went to. I went to a pro bashop did day.
First thing I looked that was a boat and I
shot a picture of by whatever. My wife and I said,
I said, I'm thinking about buying this boat. She goes,
I'm changing the locks. I said, well, you can only
change fifty percent of the locks. If she didn't like

(07:39):
that answer. I was looking at handguns and the price
of handguns were like, oh my god, I'm not buying
any well, the price of boats.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
All kinds of shocked.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
It was actually it was actually doable, you know, but.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
I don't have a bit of bot Where are we going?

Speaker 4 (07:52):
You got a factor in the costs after you purchase.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
I know, it's like double ass baseball bat, like two
hundred and seventy five dollars.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
A glove is three three hundred.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Yeah, you know, how do you catch your kid in
the litle league for a three hundred dollars glove?

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Take the boat to your dad?

Speaker 2 (08:05):
No idea?

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Oh, if you get the top of the line deal. Yeah,
you're it's it's not cheap, uh, and so you're gonna
have to Everybody has a a point where they kind
of are a little bit uncomfortable, but most of the
time when it comes to recreation, we're gonna pony up
and pay whatever it is.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
But a shout out to Korby Wright. He's a golf product,
golf course product. Uh sales. He sales the product of
the golf courses. He was playing last night at at
which course.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
No, he was playing music.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
At a rodeok Uh, first time with a bunch of people.
He has a band now and he was playing last
night saying a really good Yeah, he's a he's he
sells us to all the superintendents.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
So he did really good.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
So all right, a couple other things to finish up
the show. It's the golf show on the ticket.
