I'm pretty sure the shell is the skeleton.

It's the skeleton of the turtle. I think if what
do you mean if you take that away from it
just dies because that's part of the turtle, that's its backbone.

Often, my aunt had a turtle shell on the wall
that much. She had like the spy turtle.
