Speaker 1 (00:00):
Interesting story saw yesterday about changing the name of Labrador,
as in the suburb to Broadwater. Now, the reason why
a bit of a negative connotation for some of the
Labradorians lock your door, Labrador, that kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
So they were talking about changing the name of a suburb.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
I just I feel as though you can't do that.
I thought, it's been here longer than most of us. Yeah,
and it's just the name exactly called Steve. If you're
going to change it, well.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
There wasn't Stephens. Yeah, and that got changed. That got changed,
Steve Stephens, Stephens.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Gary is always a show favorite.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Gary Door, Labrigary, labor Gary. Now we'll just with a
y or an I two two hours, two hours and
a y Labrigary Labrigary.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
See that works way better than broad Water.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
I can.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
But I just I feel as though Labrador has been
it's it's it doesn't make any sense like that was
one of the pretty much the original suburb on the
Gold Coast.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
That's where it all started, Labrador.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
So you have broad or Parklands and then all the
way up.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
So they go Broadwater all the way up pretty much
to what I don't know, Hollywell or even I said, well,
what's before Holly, Well, I can't even remember it at
the moment. I'm just driving in my car at Sorry, officer,
we want to know, what do you think? Can you
change a suburb name on the Gold Coast Labrador to Broadwater?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
You can, but it's just be getting used to it.
Everybody will still call it Labrador.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
I mean, I guess there used to be albert Shire
as well. On the Gold Coast.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
There were like two parts, two city councils, and so
it would always be you.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Just get it just disappears.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
And like you said, there was a place called Stephens,
but no one obviously calls the Stephens because some people
still do.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
I think some odd school people stavids that varsity Varsity.
You want to changing a coast suburb Labrador to Broadwater
or Labra Gary or Gary daor yeah, see there's war
on Gary, so why can't they be Labragary, Gary Island,
(02:13):
Oh my god, Garry Coast, Gary Point, Banoa, Gary, Tina
from Chevron.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
What do you think?
Speaker 4 (02:23):
Well, they actually tossed this around about twenty five years ago,
and I wish they had done it then because then
I'd probably be about fifty thousand dollars richer because we
had a house in Labrador and when we sold it
it was still Labrador. Oh okay, but it would have
looked much nicer on the on the listing to be
buying that little cottage in the Broadwall.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Oh yes, absolutely, and even better if you were buying
it in Labragary.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Well yeah, so Labrigary close to Broadwater?
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Do you like Laborgary or Gary door?
Speaker 4 (02:57):
I think I like Labragary Brigary?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Okay, do you think change?
Speaker 4 (03:03):
It sounds like a type of fixture in your kitchen.
You know, I'm just under the kitchen sink. I'm going
to get the Gary door, but just the full pantries
on the left.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah, I'm just going to go fix McGarry door.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Can I use your Labrador?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
I've got a creaky McGarry door. We're changing the suburb,
you know, name, name make any difference? Well, people still
think of it as the same place, still the same place?
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Is it just like a fresh coat of pain or yeah?
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yeah? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Stephen from Therrang we're talking about Labrador or Broadwater? What
do you think it should be called?
Speaker 5 (03:32):
You can't change the name. Have you got to think
of all the businesses that's not Labrador as part of
their business name sign. It's a much bigger deal than
just changing the name of the suburb. It's going to
win pack thousands of people, yes.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
And.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
It's just going to create a whole lot of confusion.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Do you think Labrador has a bad name?
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Well, you know it has in the past, and I
think it's cleaning it up now. You know all even
the rang Therang had a bad name as well. But yeah, yeah,
everything is cleaning out now. It's becoming so expensive on
the Gold Coaster, a lot of amore.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah, you bring up a great point where everybody like,
if you're living in Labrador and they're they're it's on
their front services, then they'd have to change it all
up and they cost a lot of money.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
So then we could just put Gary over labra Gary,
and they just put it over the top.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
What do you think Gary door or Labragary?
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Thank you Stephen from than Steve Wendy from Mullin, Dina.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Changing the name of Labrador, what do you think?
Speaker 6 (04:28):
I don't think they should have been living on the
coast for over fifty four years and I've seen so
many changes happen to the Gold Coast already. Why why
change something that's been there for so long. Yeah, and
the coast said it would be the businesses too.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I mean that's what Stephen just said.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
Definitely, it's it's it's not right. Just leave it the
way it is.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
All right.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
In a less serious note, would you like Labra Gary
or Gary Dor?
Speaker 6 (04:54):
I think I like Gary Door.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Oh one vote for Gary very much. Wendy well up
in the air, isn't it? From Mullingarry like a good series.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
And then we go all right, just take this off
track for a bit, Gary do or labor Gary pig
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Train for the driver one day Tomato
