Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listing two a Mumamea podcast. Mummameer acknowledges the traditional
owners of land and waters that this podcast is recorded on. Hi.
I'm Nicole Madigan from Mummamea's twice daily news podcast, The
Quickie with Your Headlines. For Tuesday, May thirteen, Susan Lee

(00:30):
has become the first female leader of the Federal Liberal
Party after being picked to lead the opposition following the
coalition's resounding election defeat. The former Liberal deputy defeated ex
Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor twenty nine votes to twenty five
in a party room ballot of fifty four members on Tuesday.
She may have been handed a poison shallice, though, after

(00:52):
being tasked with rebuilding the Liberal Party after almost all
of its metropolitan seats were wiped out on May three.
The coalition holds forty two of one hundred and fifty
Lower House seats, less than half of Labour's ninety three.
Of three seats yet to be called, the Liberals are
ahead in two and Labour one, meaning there's a chance

(01:14):
of a slight improvement in the teally, but the coalition
faces a massive task to win government in three years
regardless Ted O'Brien was elected deputy leader. The Nationals re
elected David Little Proud as their leader on Monday, following
a challenge from Conservative Senator Matt Canevan. New guidelines will
help reduce stigma and improve access to diagnoses and services

(01:37):
for a lifelong disability in Australia. Researchers say arising from
prenatal exposure to alcohol, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder can cause
difficulties with attention, learning and memory, communication, and behavioral and
emotional regulation. The condition was typically diagnosed in specialist clinics
often based in metropolitan areas, and families faced long waits

(02:00):
for an assessment, but after years of work, researchers have
developed the first guidelines in the space to be approved
by the National Health and Medical Research Cause Council. Researchers
reviewed more than three hundred research papers and consulted health professionals,
cultural experts, families and careers of people with the disorder
over a four year period. They say they hope the

(02:22):
guidelines will make more practitioners across the country feel comfortable
assessing the condition while also reducing stigma. The murders of
two young boys might have happened hours before officers were
called to their semi rural home, where the boy's bodies
were found in separate bedrooms. Police say details of the
boy's debts were revealed as their grandmother and accused killer

(02:44):
appeared in court for the first time. Kathleen Haggs will
be held in custody for at least another ten days
after making no application for bail during a brief appearance
at Paramatta Baale Court on Saturday. The sixty six year
old was charged the previous day after spending several days
in hospital since the bodies of brothers Max and Sam,

(03:05):
aged seven and six, were discovered. Two junior police officers
as attended the property after a message sent to the
community's and Justice department triggered an emergency response. They broke
into the home to find the boy's bodies while their
maternal grandmother was nearby. After trying to harm herself, Haggs
was formally refused bail to appear in Doubo Local Court

(03:27):
on May twenty one. Jurors in the Sean Diddy Comb's
sex trafficking trial have viewed a two thousand sixteen video
showing the musician assaulting his then girlfriend Cassandra Ventura, throwing
her to the ground and kicking her as she tries
to enter a lift. Prosecutors introduced the video on the
first day of evidence in the high profile trial. Combs,

(03:50):
wearing only a towel, is seen grabbing Venturer's belongings and
dragging her into the hallway. His later scene sitting in
a chair opposite Venturer, from where he throws a vase
in her direction, shattering it. Combs apologized after the video
first aired on CNN last year. Combs has pleaded not
guilty to five felony counts of racketeering, conspiracy, sex trafficking,

(04:14):
and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted on all counts,
he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of fifteen years and
could face life in prison. That's your latest news headlines
On tomorrow's episode of The Quickie, the inquest into the
Bondai Junction's stabbing attack has revealed new details about the

(04:35):
killer's mental health history. Listen to The Quickie wherever you
