Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to a Muma Mia podcast. Mumma Mea acknowledges
the traditional loners of Land and Waters that this podcast
is recorded on Hi. I'm Tarlie Blackman from Momma MEA's
twice daily news podcast, The Quikie with Your Headlines. For
Monday May nineteen, Former US President Joe Biden has been
diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has

(00:33):
spread to his bones. His office confirmed the diagnosis on Friday,
after doctors found a prostate nodule and urinary symptoms last week.
The cancer is hormone sensitive, which means it can be
managed with treatments that block hormone growth. Biden's Gleason score
is nine, indicating a highly aggressive cancer. Doctors say while

(00:53):
it's not curable, it is treatable, with many patients living
several years after diagnosis. Biden, who's now eighty two years old,
and his family are reviewing treatment options. Messages of support
have come in from world leaders, including Vice President Kamala
Harris and UK Prime Minister Kiir Stamer. President Donald Trump

(01:14):
said he was saddened by the news and wished Biden
a fast and successful recovery. Biden had previously ended his
re election campaign citing health and age concerns. Prime Minister
Anthony Alberanzi has told Ukrainian President Voladimir Zelensky that more
Australian tanks are on their way to support Ukraine's fight

(01:34):
against Russia. The leaders met on the sidelines of Pope
Leo the fourteenth inauguration at the Vatican, where mister Alberzi
reaffirmed Australia's backing of Ukraine, calling Russia's invasion a legal aggression.
Zelensky urged Australia to increase sanctions on Moscow to maintain pressure.
Albanzi also met with the European Commission President Ursula von

(01:56):
de Lyon, who raised the idea of deeper defense ties
between the EU and Australia. Other leaders he met included
Canada's Prime Minister Mark Karney and UK Deputy PM Angela Rayner,
though there was no one on one with the US
Vice President J. D. Vance. Albanezi described a post inauguration
meeting with Pope Leo as a very personal moment. In

(02:19):
the latest updates from the Aeron Patterson trial, the focus
has shifted to telecommunications evidence. Expert testimony showed how mobile
phone networks can track a person's movements. Doctor Matthew Serell,
a digital forensic expert, explained that phones automatically connect to
a nearby base station even when not in use, leaving
a traceable data trail. He also said that phones look

(02:42):
for the strongest signal and can switch between towers as
they move, with all of this being recorded by the network.
In this case, the focus is on Telstra tower data
from the Kurumbara region near Pattison's home in Leongutha. Patterson
is accused of murdering three relatives by serving them beef
Wellington with death cat mushrooms. The trial continues this afternoon

(03:04):
with more testimony from doctor Sorell. A fisherman was bitten
by a dingo while fishing in knee deep water at
Gari formerly Fraser Island, on Friday morning. The attack happened
near Yurong when the dingo nearly fully submerged, bit the
man on the back of the leg. He suffered two
punctured wounds and a small laceration which needed first aid.

(03:25):
The man used his fishing rod to push the dingo away.
Rangers believe the dingo was drawn to the man's fishing bag,
which contained a fish. They warned that dingoes often approach
anglers in search of food. Visitors are advised to stay
close to the water's edge, keep bait out of reach,
and not leave it unattended to prevent further incidents. That's
your latest news headlines. On tomorrow's episode of The Quikie,

(03:48):
why do so many people keep falling for celebrity romance scams?
We dive into the psychology behind these cons and the
growing number of victims. Plus, six months after two Melbourne
teenagers tragically died from methanol poisoning in Laos, their mothers
are still searching for answers and justice. Listen to The
Quickie wherever you get your podcasts. Sp
