Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listing tea a Muma Mea podcast. Mumma Mea acknowledges
the traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast
is recorded on. Hey, I'm Taylor Strano from Mumma MEA's
twice daily news podcast, The Quickie with Your Headlines for Friday,
September five, Neo Nazi group leader Thomas Sule has been

(00:31):
refused bail after allegedly attacking an Aboriginal protest site. The
decision was handed down by Magistrate Donna Bakos in Melbourne
Magistrate's Court on Friday morning. The thirty two year old
has been charged with twenty five offenses, including violent disorder
and defray over the alleged attack on Camp Sovereignty in
Melbourne City Center. Saull allegedly led a group of thirty

(00:54):
men dressed in black to storm the indigenous camp on
Sunday evening after attending an anti immigration rally. Members of
the white nationalist group were accused of holding down occupants
of the camp before kicking and punching them. The court
was told the incident injured three people, with the worse
suffered by a woman who required staples in her scalp
to close a wound. Victorian police opposed Saul's application for bail,

(01:18):
arguing he was an unacceptable risk to society because his
violence had been escalating. Saul's lawyer, Matthew Hopkins, told the
court his client had never missed a court hearing and
was committed to fighting all charges, but Miss Bakovs ruled
there was an unacceptable risk of Saul endangering the community
as she refused his bail application. The Israeli Army says

(01:41):
it now controls forty percent of Gaza City. A military
spokesperson says its bombardment forced more Palestinians from their homes there,
while thousands of residents to fighted Israeli orders to leave,
remaining behind in the ruins in the path of Israel's
latest advance. Gaza Health's authorities say Israeli fire across the
enclave killed at least fifty three people on Thursday, mostly

(02:04):
in Gaza City, where Israeli forces have advanced through the
outer suburbs and now a few killing meets from the
city center. Israel launched the offensive in Gaza City on
August ten, in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says is
a plan to defeat Hamas militants in the part of
Gaza where Israeli troops fought most heavily in the war's
initial phase. The campaign has prompted international criticism because of

(02:28):
the humanitarian crisis in the area. According to a White
House official, US President Donald Trump plans to sign an
executive order renaming the Department of Defense the Department of War.
The order would authorize Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the Defense Department,
and subordinate officials to use secondary titles such as Secretary

(02:49):
of War and Department of War in official correspondents and
public communications. Since taking office in January, Trump has set
out to rename a range of places and institutions, including
the Gulf of Mexico, and to restore the original names
of military bases that were changed after racial justice protests.

(03:09):
Department of Defense was called the War Department until nineteen
forty nine, when Congress consolidated the Army, Navy, and Air
Force in the wake of World War II. Changing the
name again will be costly and require updating signs and
letterheads used not only by officials at the Pentagon but
also military installations around the world. Meantime, NBC Report's former

(03:31):
president Joe Biden recently underwent surgery to remove cancer itsels
from his skin and is recovering well. The eighty two
year old revealed in May he'd been diagnosed with metastic
prostate cancer. His team described the illness as aggressive but
hormone sensitive, meaning it's likely to respond to treatment. Matilda's
skipper Sam Kerr will make her long awaited comeback to

(03:53):
women's football, being named in the Chelsea side ahead of
the women's Super League opener against Manchester City tomorrow, scheduled
for the early hours of Saturday morning, Australia time. It's
not yet known if the striker will start the match
on field, but Chelsea boss Sonya bombp Pastor can firm
she's been named in the side. This will be Curr's
first time playing in twenty months following an ACL injury

(04:16):
that sidelined her at the beginning of twenty twenty four.
She'll be chasing her hundredth goal in Blue if she
steps back on field tomorrow, Chilli's fans hoping this points
to signs of her inclusion in the Aussie squad, as
the Women's Asia Cup, taking place in Australia, is scheduled
for next March and exciting news for Blue fans. Disney
and BBC Studios have given us a release date for

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
