Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to a Muma Mia podcast. Mumma Mea acknowledges
the traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast
is recorded on Hi. I'm Ailes Delaney from Mamma MIA's
twice daily news podcast, The Quickie with Your Headlines for
Friday June thirteen. Australia has recorded its highest ever ranking

(00:32):
for gender equity. The World Economic Forums twenty twenty five
Global Gender Gap Report saw Australia rise eleven places to
thirteen out of one hundred and forty eight countries. It's
a significant jump from last year's ranking of twenty four
and is the highest since the index began in two
thousand and six. The index shows improvements in Australia's ranking

(00:52):
across political empowerment, economic participation and educational attainment. Minister for
Women Katie Gallagher described the result as fantastic, but says
there's always more work to do. Meningitis Center Australia is
urging the New South Wales government to under a NINJACOCKLEB
vaccination program for babies and teens in its June budget,

(01:14):
with new data showing the state has already recorded among
the highest number of cases this year. The Center says
thirty cases of potentially fatal MENINJACCCLEB infections have been recorded
nationally this year. Eight of those are in New South Wales.
MCA Chief executive Karen Quick says the current vaccination program,
which offers the vaccine to families via a private prescription,

(01:37):
is simply not good enough. A US judge has temporarily
barred President Donald Trump from deploying National Guard troops in
Los Angeles, finding the Guard was unlawfully mobilized by Trump.
Judge Charles Brayer ordered the National Guard to return to
the control of California Governor Gavin Newsom, who sued to
restrict its activity. The Trump administration immediately appealed the judge's order,

(02:01):
which will take effect at noon Friday. In the US,
Trump first summoned to the National Guard, then the Marines
to help federal police forces guard federal buildings from protesters
and to protect federal immigration agents as they pick up
suspected violators. In his ruling, Braya says the presence of
the troops in the city was its self, inflaming tensions
with protesters. Trump has defended his decision, saying if he

(02:24):
had not done so, the city would be in flames.
Israel has attacked Iran's capital, with explosions booming across Tehran
as Israel says it targeted nuclear and military sites. The
attack early on Friday comes as tensions have reached new
heights over Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program. For the first

(02:44):
time in twenty years, the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board
of Governors on Thursday censured Iran over it not working
with inspectors. Iran immediately announced it would establish a third
enrichment site in the country and swap out some centrifuges
for more advanced ones. For years, Israel has warned it
would not allow Iran to build a nuclear weapon, something

(03:06):
Tehran insists it does not want, though officials there I
have repeatedly warned it could build them. Juel Lipa has
confirmed her engagement with British actor Callum Turner, following months
of speculation. Speaking to British Vogue, the pop star says
Turner got the ring custom made after speaking with her
best friends and sister. The singer says a wedding isn't

(03:26):
on the horizon just yet. She says she wants to
finish touring and Turner is filming. That's your evening news headlines.
On Monday's episode of The Quickie, we talk about what
is going on with the IVF mix ups in Australia
and the new trend that might help you keep warm
this winter. Listen to The Quikie wherever you get your podcasts.
