Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to a Muma Mia podcast. Mumma Mea acknowledges
the traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast
is recorded on Hi. I'm Tarlie Blackman from Muma MIA's
twice daily news podcast, The Quickie with Your Headlines. For Monday,
April twenty eight, Anthony Alberanezi has announced a twenty million

(00:32):
dollar plan to set up a trauma recovery center for
women and children on the New South Wales Central Coast
in the seat of Robertson. This announcement comes following the
death of nineteen year old Audrey Griffin, who was murdered
on her way home from a night out in Gosford
on March twenty three. A stranger, Adrian Noel Torrens, was
charged with her murder. He was later found dead in

(00:55):
his prison cell just minutes from where the Prime Minister
made the announcement. Locals held a protest on Sunday against
gender based violence. Mister Albanezi offered his condolences to Audrey's
family and friends. He called for a whole of society
response to violence against women, stressing the important role men
must play. The new center will offer long term support

(01:17):
to survivors and help prevent future tragedies. An inquest has
heard the man who killed six people at Bondi Junction
Westfield was seriously unwell and hadn't had any mental health
treatment in five years. Forty year old Joel Couci was
diagnosed with schizophrenia as a teenager, but slipped through the
cracks of the system before the April thirteen attack in Sydney.

(01:39):
He was shot dead by police after killing six people
and injuring ten others, including a baby. The court heard
Couchy had been obsessed with violence, weapons and mass killings.
He'd searched for events like Columbine and even wrote plans
to attack a shopping center. Coroner Chresa O'Sullivan is now
looking into how the system failed him, including the police

(02:00):
and mental health response. A tragic car ramming attack at
a Filipino heritage festival in Vancouver has left eleven people
dead and dozens injured. Thirty year old kaig adam Lu
has been charged with eight counts of second degree murder,
with more charges expected. The victims ranged in age from
five to sixty five. Police say the attack, which happened

(02:23):
on Saturday evening, was not terrorism related. But involved a
suspect with a long history of mental health issues. Lou
was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. The
incident shook the nation just days before a federal election.
Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his condolences, calling it every
family's nightmare. Cindi Lauper, Chubby Checker, and Soundgarden are among

(02:47):
the artists set to be inducted into the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame this year. The announcement was made
on Sunday by Ryan Seacrest on American Idol. Other inductees
include Bad Company outcast, Joe Cocker, and The White Stripes.
The induction ceremony will take place on November eighth in
Los Angeles and will be streamed live on Disney Plus.

(03:08):
Artists must have released their first recording at least twenty
five years ago to be eligible. Checker, who is now
eighty three, is known for popularizing dances like the Twist. Lauper,
now seventy one, rose to fame in the eighties with
hits like Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Soundgarden
was a key figure in the nineties grunge movement. And
That's Your Latest News headlines. On tomorrow's episode of The Quickie,

(03:30):
we unpack what the parties are doing for your biggest
election concerns. Listen to The Quickie wherever you get your podcasts.
