Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to a Muma Mea podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Mumma Mea acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters
that this podcast is recorded on Hi. I'm Cassandra Green
from Mumma Mea. As twice daily news podcast, The Quickie
with Your Headlines for Thursday, September eighteen, cancel culture has
come for Jimmy Kimmel. During his career ending Monday monologue,

(00:35):
Kimmel criticized right wing politicians for trying to categorize Charlie
Kirk's alleged assassin as a far left lunatic and attempting
to score political points from his death.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
We hit some new lows over the weekend with the
Maga gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered
Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and
everything they can to score political points from.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Kimmel's cancelation was announced the day after Brendan Carr, the
Trump appointed chair of America's broadcast regulator, the Federal Communications Commission,
threatened to take away the broadcaster's license. He went on
Benny Johnson's right wing podcast, saying Kimmel's comments showed his
sickest conduct. He said broadcasters licenses are granted by the

(01:18):
FCC and that they could do it the easy way
or the hard way to take action on Kimmel. Kimmel's
cancelation came minutes after one of the biggest owners of
TV stations, Nextstar Media, said it would not air his
late night show for the foreseeable future. Nexttar called the
comedian's remarks offensive and insensitive. On Wednesday Night, car thanked

(01:39):
Nexstar for doing the right thing. It's a decision, the
President applauded, calling the cancelation great news for America. He
congratulated the ABC for their courage to cancel the show,
saying Kimmel has zero talent and even worse ratings than Colbert,
whose show was canceled by CBS in August. CBS said
the cancelation was made due to financial headwinds, but the

(02:00):
decision sparked criticism as it came just two days after
Colbert called out his former employer, paramount sixteen million dollars
settlement with Trump over the editing of a six year
minute interview with the MVP Kamala Harris. Colbert called the
case frivolous and the settlement a big, fat bribe. At
the same time, an eight billion dollar merger to sell
CBS to Skydance was simultaneously being processed and reviewed by

(02:23):
Trump's media regulator, which had the final sale on if
it would be approved. Democrat Senator Adam Schiff appeared as
a guest on the show and later wrote on social media,
if Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for political reasons,
the public deserves to know and deserves better. Since Kimmel's cancelation,
Trump has also taken a swipe at NBC's hosts Jimmy

(02:44):
Fallon and Seth Myers, who he called total losers. Jimmy
Kimmel is yet to make a statement on his cancelation.
In news that hits closer to home, the ABC has
been barred from attending Donald Trump's press conference near London
this week. The Guardian reports Downing Street told the broadcasters
London Bureau its accreditation to attend the press conference had

(03:04):
been withdrawn for logistical reasons. The broadcaster said there's no
indication it's connected to a clash between the ABC's America's editor,
John Lyons and the President over his business dealings, which
occurred earlier this week. Lyons clashed with Trump on Wednesday
when he asked him how much wealthier he had become
since returning to the White House. Trump accused the reporter
of hurting Australia. In my opinion, you are hurting Australia

(03:28):
very much right now.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Now they want to get along with me. You know
your leader is coming over to see me very sir, Rick,
I'm going to tell them about you, and you said
a very bad tone.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
The Trump administration used an official ex account to label
Lions a foreign fake news loser. The ABC News director
Justin Stevens said Lyons had the broadcasters full support. It
seems Ben and Jerry's is now just Ben's after co
founder Jerry Greenfield made the decision to stand down from
the company after forty seven years. Ben shared a letter

(03:58):
Jerry wrote on social media saying he could not continue
working for a company he claims has been silenced by
its parent company. For those unaware, Ben and Jerry's has
a long history of social activism, and the business has
previously described the war in Gaza as a genocide. Jerry
said the in Ben negotiated a deal that protected their
social mission that has allowed Ben and Jerry's to speak

(04:19):
out on issues regarding peace, justice and human rights in
response to real world events, but now he claims it's
profoundly disappointing to realize that independence, the very basis of
the sale is gone. The parent company and Ben and
Jerry's have disagreed since twenty twenty one, when Ben and
Jerry's wanted to stop sales in the Israeli occupied West Bank.

(04:40):
A spokesperson for Magnum ice Cream Company said that it
disagrees with mister Greenfield's perspective and has sought to engage
both co founders in a constructive conversation on how to
strengthen Ben and Jerry's powerful, values based position in the world.
Police have charged a sixty four year old man with
murder hours after bones were found during a search for
the remains of a woman who vanished more than twenty

(05:02):
years ago. The breakthrough in the cold case was made
late on Wednesday. The human remains, believed to be those
of Susan Goodwin, were buried in the backyard of a
house in Port Lincoln, South Australia. She was first reported
missing in July two thousand and two and was last
seen around lunchtime after shopping at Coles and Woolworths in
the area. Detective Inspector Andrew McCrae said it was a

(05:23):
tragedy that Susan's family have spent the last twenty three
years without answers. The alleged suspect will appear in Port
Lincoln Magistrate's Court today. And that's your evening news headlines
on Friday's episode of The Quickie inside all the pomp
and circumstance of Trump's state visit to the UK. Plus
