Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to Amma Mia podcast. Mamma Mia acknowledges the
traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast is
recorded on Hi. I'm Tollie Blackman from Mummamea's twice daily
news podcast, The Quickie with Your Headlines. For Friday August one,
two Australians say they were brutalized psychologically in every way

(00:32):
while being detained in Israel after trying to deliver aid
to Gaza by sea. Tan Safi and Robert Martin were
among twenty one activists on board the ship Handala, part
of the Freedom Flotilla, which was intercepted by Israeli forces
in international waters on Sunday. They landed back in Sydney
this morning to cheers from supporters. Speaking at the airport,

(00:54):
Miss Safi said the group was taken completely against their will,
accusing Israel of trying to staff Palestinians. The group included
members of the European Parliament, journalists and lawyers. They were
held for several days in Gayvonne Prison, then deported to jaw.
Israel disputes their claims, saying the boat tried to breach
its naval blockade. US President Donald Trump has signed a

(01:16):
new executive order imposing tariffs on dozens of America's trading partners.
Australia has avoided higher rates, but its exports will still
face a ten percent charge from August seven. The order
affects sixty eight countries and the European Union. Nations not
given special deals will pay the default rate, including Australia.

(01:37):
The decision comes after last minute talks between the White
House and several countries, including Mexico, which secured a ninety
day reprieve. The new tariffs have sparked global concern, with
critics swarning they could fuel inflation and slow the world economy.
Trump says the moves are about fixing trade imbalances, but
his opponents call it economic chaos. Molly O'Callahan has matched

(02:02):
Ian Thorpe's Australian record of eleven World Championship gold medals
after anchoring Australia to victory in the women's four by
two hundred meter freestyle relay in Singapore. O'Callahan held off
American legend Katie Ledecki in the final leg of the race,
winning by zero point sixty six seconds. Teammates Lanie Pallister,
Jamie Perkins and Brittany Castelluzzo helped set up the win,

(02:25):
with China finishing third. It was o'callahan's third gold of
the meet and came just a night after her two
hundred meter freestyle triumph. The twenty one year old now
has four individual and seven relay world titles. She described
the moment as very special, praising her teammates and coach
Dean Boxel. O'Callahan will go for a fourth gold in

(02:46):
the one hundred meter freestyle later in the meet. James
Cameron says he's feeling great and ready to direct Avatar
four and five, with the next chapter, Avatar, Fire and
Ash jewe in cinemas this December. The seventy year old
director told Empire magazine he's healthy and up for the
challenge as long as he can keep up the energy
for the next six or seven years. Cameron has finished

(03:09):
writing through to movie five and has ideas for parts
six and seven, though he plans to hand over the
reins by then. He's called Fire and Ash the most
emotional in the series so far, praising the cast for
exceptional work. That's your evening news headlines on Monday's episode
of The Quickie National Missing Person's Week returns as families
and friends still wait for answers of their missing loved ones. Plus,

(03:33):
