secret to giving her skin barrier a rest. Here's everything
Amy Gerard puts on her face.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
You are such beautiful skin. But how Amy welcome?

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Thank you so much for joining us on the show today.
Is this your first time on New Beauty?

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Is my first time on New Beauty?

Speaker 3 (01:57):
I'm surprised.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
I love beauty. Why haven't I been on here before?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Well, we've got you on now, and we're so excited
to have snagged you because I know you're a very
busy woman, so we cannot wait to get into it.
I'm gonna die. Tell me a little bit about your
skin journey. What are some concerns that you've struggled with
in the past, And tell me a little bit about
where your skin's at now.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
If you're talking about my skincare journey, I'm embarrassed to
admit that. I don't think it really kind of started
or kicked off till my late twenties. I have a
wonderful mother, but she is an absolute son worshiper first strike,
and she's a massive tomboy. She's a huge tomboy, so

(02:39):
she's never ever cared about her skin care. She used
to put hand cream on as face cream. She's laid back,
tomboy natural beauty. So that's what I grew up with.
In terms of a role model, she's always kind of
been like, you know, just love the skin that you're in.
And whilst that's a great message, I absolutely wish that

(03:00):
she had spoken more about how wonderful the benefits of sunscreener.
So my skincare journey and me really delving into it
probably was around the age of like twenty seven twenty eight,
and it was just about finding products that did really
great things for my skin. So before I just used

(03:22):
to watch my face sometimes I was that person who
slept in my makeup most nights.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
I just I want to go back and keep pry'll
do it. We all do it.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
It's so gross, though, I think about it now and
I'm like, oh, the pause. Yeah, I just kind of
started finding products. It worked really well for my skin.
I would say that I'm more of a dry skin,
a bit more of a reptile than I am oily,
and so my skin loves all hyaluronic acids. Vitamin C

(03:52):
is one of my favorite products. Hyaluronic acid is a
definite second fave. It's just been a journey and I
have loved every second of it, you know, trying anti
products and falling in love with different brands and seeing
the benefits of it, and watching my skin just get
better and better almost as I get older.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
That's the bloody dream. You're my kind of gal.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
I've also got like tree Buck skin when it comes
to hydration. But you do have a beautiful, glowing skin.
So I can't wait to get into your skin careuteene.
Before we do, though, I wanted to ask, being in
the online world, what are some skincare trends that you've
noticed pop up recently?

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, obviously the skin cycling. I've seen a lot.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Of that, and I think that's fantastic, Like my skin
responds really well to that. Actually, I've seen lots of
different ones come up, but for me, that's basically like
using an exfoliating serum first night, a retinal serum the second,
and then the last two nights is heavy on the
hyaluronic acids and just putting back in all that moisture

(04:57):
and stuff and then repeating it.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
So that's a trend that I.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Think is has been around recently and rightly, so like,
I think it's actually really good and really beneficial.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
For the skin.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Every other week we have a guest on that is
talking about skin cycling and how good it is because
I feel like, you know, in the beauty industry today,
there's so much out there, so many different products you
want to try, and people, you know, during COVID, after COVID,
we're just going ham on different ingredients on their skin.
So it's really kind of helped us pull back. Yeah,
as you said, it's nothing new, but it's helped us

(05:30):
kind of pull back and you know, actually give our
skin what it needs rather than just being like you
will love this.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
I really like the simplicity of it because I even
for me, when I first started getting into my skincare journey,
I was like, wow, it was so overwhelming because there
are so many products and you're like what does that do?

Speaker 1 (05:49):
What does that do? Like?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Do I need thirty products or can I just do four?
Like it is overwhelming? So I do like the simplicity
of skin cycling, and I think it kind of tackles
all the main areas of concern for me, especially, So yeah,
I think it's a really good one if you are
getting into it, I mean, what is yourself care?

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Give us the dirty?

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Would you describe your current routine as a little more minimalistic.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
I've massively scaled back on a lot of products. In
the morning, I basically will get out of the shower
and I'm vitamin C always every morning.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
When you get in the show, do you cleanse with
anything or you just wash your face with water.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
First thing in the morning.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
I just washed my face with water because I've done,
you know, my nightly routine the night before. I've obviously
got my night creams and stuff on, but I won't
cleanse then.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
I just wash it with water.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
And I feel if you've got dry or kind of
sensorized skin, just washing it with water in the morning
is like, I notice such a big difference when I
just switched to using water rather than cleansing my skin
in the morning. So I'm on board that you mentioned
vitamin C. What vitamin C do you like and why?
Because it's hard to choose vitamin C. I feel like
it either really stings your face or.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, some that are really potent and smell like Ham. Look,
I kind of alternate between three different vitamin c's.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
I don't know if that's cheating. Like there's three brands
that I like.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
There's an aspect brand their visa that I really like.
I love the skin Suiticles.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yes, the Sea.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Yes, and that's the one that smells like Ham.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yes, it does off Ham.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
It's cam.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
But what I find and what I love about that
is you don't need a lot like you can just
do like one or two dots and pad it on
your skin. And then there's another one that I really
like as well, Ultraceuticals.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yes, similar to skin Suiticles. Ultraceuticals is also really good.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
So they've got an ultraca and all three of those
don't make me break out, not that I have sensitive skin,
but my skin takes really well to them.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
And what's interesting is they're all like cosmaceutical skin care products,
so they're all, you know, quite science backed. Yes, skin
care products. I'm a big fan of skin cuticles. Well,
what kind of changes do you notice in your skin
when you're using vitamin C as opposed to not using it?

Speaker 2 (08:15):
My skin is glowy when I am not using vitamin C.
I just not that I look gray, but I just
don't have that brightness about me. And I do feel
like it just really brightens and gives my skin that
extra kind of glow, which I just love.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
We're all about the glow more glows.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
We are, Yes, we are.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
What other serums are in your routine? I think you
mentioned tyaluronic acid. Oh, this guy.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Acid just honestly bath me in the stuff. My whole
body needs hluronic acid to be honest.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
What's your favorite brand?

Speaker 1 (08:48):
So it's the Ultraceuticals Ultra B.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
It's a hydrating serum, but it's got like triple hyaluronic acid.
It's got like a pro vitamin B five and a
B three And I've just found that in terms of
the hyaluronic acid and adding loads and loads of moisture
and hydration into my skin, that has been an abs
game changer.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
That's not like a creamy formula, is it. That's more
like of a watery formula.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
It's like a clear serum.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
And then the other one, what I want to give
a very special mention to is cosmetics.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Do you know cosmetics?

Speaker 2 (09:22):
They have one which is called skin Thirst, and it's
like a hyaluronic acid, but it's a moisturizing cream.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
It's a little bit thicker.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
I use the Skin Thirst before i do my makeup
in the morning, or if I'm going to an event,
whereas the serum's really good and I just kind of
let that soak into my skin. It's I have been
pumping that onto my skin morning and night all throughout winter,
and it's been my saving grace.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Ultrauticals is so good.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
Look at you and all your fancy cosmaceutical skincare.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
This guy, you know what.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
I always used to be like, Oh, why would you
spend so much money?

Speaker 2 (09:58):
And that's such, But it is the best investment I've
ever made. And it's the one thing, like even if
Ryan loses his job and I lose my job, I
will be.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Like, that is my one vice. Skincare not bud.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
We are poor, but I have good skin at least,
and that's all that. Ye tell me a little bit
about your nighttime routine. So when you get home, you
know from podcasting radio, a day of all of the things,
where do you start?

Speaker 2 (10:31):
So I will usually get in the shower and I
will cleanse my face in there. My favorite old time
cleanser is the Aspect purestat five.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
It is like a clear green serum type cleanser.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Is it a jail cleanser.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Yeah, it's like a jail cleanser.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Yep. Takes off all my makeup. I usually will do
two cleansers. What I used to do before that was
I would do with oil cleanser to kind of do
all my makeup, like especially my Masca and whatnot.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
I do love an oil cleanser.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
I've just literally run out of one, so I should
probably invest in enough of it.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Well, there's tons of good ones out there. Let me
tell you lots of great oil cleansers and balms.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
So there's actually so many good oil cleansers, right, what's
your favorite?

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (11:16):
Oh, we do my skin cautine.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Okay, okay, No, I actually really like the Alpha H
cleansing Bomb.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
It's kind of like a tub.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
It's annoying you have to like stick your hands in,
but it's actually a really, really nice formula and great
for taking off your makeup.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
And so do you do it in the shower?

Speaker 3 (11:32):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (11:32):
I do, and I have to like literally stand out
and do it a little bit, you know what I mean,
because you're you're Yeah. Also, there's nothing worse than getting
out of the shower after you've done your cleanse and
everything and then kind of wiping your face and you're like,
oh my god, there's more makeup, Like how how's still more?
So tell me you've done your cleanse you at the shower.

(11:55):
What kind of serums make up your nighttime skin caroutine?

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Obviously, if I'm doing like the skin cycling, if I'm
on let's say Night one of the skin cycling, I
will do like an exfoliating serum. I really love this
Sunday Riley Good Jeens.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Yet like the gases.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Yeah, it's a good time and it's a little bit
tingly on my skin, which I actually love.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
I love the feeling of that.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
But so say I'm on Night one, I will actually
use their lactic acid serum and then I'll just leave
my skin for a little bit, you know, I'll go
and put the kids to bed or something and just
let that soak in for a little bit and then
I'll come back and I'll just miss I'll use the
hyaluronic acid, and then I'll use like quite.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
A thick night cream.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
I was actually using a dermalogical one, but that's run out,
and now I'm using the este Lauder.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
Advanced Night Repair.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
Yes, that's it off.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
It's so nice.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
It's really thick as well, and it does feel like
silk going on my skin.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
If I'm on day two of like a skin.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Cycle, I'm using a retinol and I use the aspect
x fole a. I have done a journey on retinol.
My skin does not like vitamin A.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
You know that.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Everyone's like you got to push pass, you got to
push part the purging and keep on it. And I
swear I was using retinol trying to, you know, build
up the tolerance, and my skin was like just piss
off and it kept popping up with pimples everywhere, you know,
those tiny little white heads that would just come up.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
You're like, this is not getting better.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
I was like, when does the.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Purging end, guys, because there's no purging end.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
In sight right now, So how often do you use
it now?

Speaker 1 (13:34):
I still only use it like once or twice a week.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
But that's the thing. You've got to just do what
works for your skin.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Yes, Like some people can use it every night or
every second night and like really really high percentages. But
then if you've got dry skin or sensitive and you're
like it doesn't want that, it's peeling off.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yeah. And I think when you've got oily or like
combination skin, I think that kind of skin works really
well with retinol. But for me, I'm already like a
Goanna and I'm already quite dry retinal and me, I
obviously want to build it into my skincare routine, but
just not as equin as I think other people can
use it.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
But Aspect is like gentle enough for your skin.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Yes, the x fol A is what I've found has
been gentle enough for my skin. And I can use
that twice a week and it won't make me break
out anymore.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Okay, love it.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
So you've got your Sunday Riley lactic acid and your
Aspect retinol.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Yes, that seems like a good combo.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Yeah, and then.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
I'll do every night always with the hyaluronic acids and
my night cream.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Oh and then I've got.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
The skin suticles AGEI complex. Yes, so they have like
a cream version of that for your whole face as well,
I think do they?

Speaker 4 (14:45):
They do, and it's really bloody lash. It's really nice.
So you love this icream, then.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Yeah I do. I really like it.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
One of my girlfriends, Jade, got me onto it and
it's just really really nice. I will put that on
every single night before bed. I don't know do I
cream's work.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
I'm not sure. I'm still wrinkly as hell underneath my.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Eyes, but I think i'd probably be wrinklyer if I
didn't use them.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Right, we've got I hope that those tiny, really expensive
jars do something, because God, we're trying.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
We're trying try.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Yeah, that's pretty much like I said.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
I think lately I've really pulled back on having loads
and loads of different serums and loads and loads of
different layers.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
I mean, I love a sheep mask. I try and
do a sheep mask twice a week. I'm not working
with Aspect, although I do use a lot of their products.
I love the Aspect hydrating sheet masks.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
They're so so hydrating that like sometimes even my skin's
like whoa, there's so much hydration too much take it back, Yeah,
which is never a bad thing. But they're so so
lush for your skin, and they're.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Just powerful in terms of adding in.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Loads of hyaluronic acid and B five and moisture, and
your skin the next morning you're just like a newborn baby.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
The best, like pre event things. Yes, talk to me
a little bit about skin treatments. Have you got anything
that you like to do on the regular or are
you like an at home or like an in clinic
kind of fan.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
I do have the omnilux led face mask, the Contour
face mask.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
I actually bought.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
One of them about five years ago. If I can
use that thing three to four times a week, it's
only ten minutes, my skin is the best it will
ever be. It just plumps my skin right up. Obviously,
when you know, life gets really really busy, even though
it's only ten minutes. Sometimes I'll just forget right. It'll
get packed away, like at the moment we're renovating, so

(16:40):
it's been packed away in my garage and who knows
where it.

Speaker 4 (16:42):
Is, and sometimes you can't find the lead to like
charge it, like misass thing, use consistently. As you said,
you notice really great results and it is worth the money.
But you're kind of like, you gotta use it.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
So many people ask me about it, and I'm like, yeah, listen,
it is a great investment if you use it regularly.
If you're just going to pull it out once a week,
four times a month, you probably won't notice any difference
in your skin. If you use it consistently, you will
absolutely notice. It's worth the money.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
Hit, You've been one of the greatest discoveries of all time.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Oh miss never again never.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
I want to know about one skincare technique or ingredient
that you love and one skincare technique or ingredient that
you hate.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Can I say skin cycling? I love it, you definitely can.
No rules, I do love that. What do I hate
One of the things that I hate, which I mean
I only hate it because so time consuming?

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Is you know all the.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
Geesha facial massaging and yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
And I've got all the products.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
And I remember I jumped onto YouTube once and I
watched this lady and she was doing it right, and
I was like, wow, this is very beautiful.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
And it does. But the YouTube thing was like ten minutes,
and I was like, who has ten minutes?

Speaker 2 (18:06):
To run a rose quarts over their face every night,
like doing my skin care is already long enough. I
want to be that person, but I'm never going to
be that person, so I can'ta hate that.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Oh, Amy, thank you so much for joining us on
the show today. You are so good and it was
so great learning about all the products that you put
on your face.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yeah, I think I've kept it quite simple.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
I know that there's so many other products out there
I'm probably missing out on.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
No simple's good.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
