acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters that this
podcast is recorded on.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Makeup is My Therapy Love.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I'm obsessed and I don't even feel guilty about it.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Hello, and welcome to you Beauty, the daily podcast for
your Face.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
I'm Aaron Dougherty and I'm am Vernon, and you are
listening to Tried and Tested, the show where we put
new products, treatments and hacks to the test so you
don't have to unless are really good.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Really really good. I know we say it every time,
but I feel.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Like, Okay, this episode is the one I'm really excited
for because I feel like we've put in a little
bit of extra work.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
We put in lots of effort, just quietly. I feel
like this has been a month going.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
If you're watching on YouTube, we'll put a link in
our show notes if you're not. But if you're watching
on YouTube, we've got some little extra, little fun little
things that you can watch, which means that you can
actually see us try certain products. We're doing the work,
and we just wanted to prove that we actually do.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Okay, we deserve a raise, guys, look. My hack today
is one I feel like you've seen before. It's been
dubbed spanks for your face banks. I don't want to
spoil it, but people are claiming that it's replaced everything
from their retinal to their anti wrinkle injections. So you're
going to want to hear about this. What have you got?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
I've got another hair hack for you.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Good.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I'm trying really really hard to really gamify the hair
game because I think I've talked about in the past
how it takes me like an hour to do my
hand I have to find all these tools to make
it really quicker. So I've found a hack that shows
that you can get the perfect, effortless blow dry hair
in like ten seconds.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
And this will change my life because I suck at
doing my hair. So I can't wait to hear if
at work. Fingers cross girl, Yay, Okay, let's get into
it testing testing one to three?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Did it work?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
And we need to talk about face taping. I feel like,
what is I feel like it's ever have you seen
it around?
Speaker 3 (02:19):
I've seen like the wait correct me if I'm wrong,
but is it kind of like the fox I trend
where it's a bit problematic, but people were like taping like.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
The like no, so it's different to that. This is
a little more recentness trend. It's part of those you
know those morning shed routines that are everywhere on TikTok,
where people have like the mouth tape, they've got face tape,
they've got like jawlined slings and.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Like like go to bed and look pretty.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, that kind of vibe, and then they just kind
of shed everything off in the morning and they're like,
this is what I do to keep myself looking amazing.
I recently spoke about this on The Quickie with Claire Murphy.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
These content creators will then film themselves removing all these
products in the morning, creating that satisfying reveal moment that
has captivated TikTok audiences. They're glowing skin, wrinkle free faces,
and fresh bounce here. The trend has particularly resonated with
busy individuals, especially parents, who appreciate maximizing their beauty routine
(03:17):
during sleep hours. Aaron Dougherty is Mum and MEA's beauty
editor and co host of the You Beauty podcast. Aaron,
are you a morning shed girl?
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Clah No, I feel like I'm doing the very least.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
I was just going to say, like, this morning, I
woke up and just took my bun out and splashed
some water on my face, which sounds really bad coming
from a beauty editor, but Claire, like this just sounds
like a whole other level.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
One thing I've been dying to try, though, is the
silicone scar face taping. So this is actually exploded. The
silicone taping go, so let me get in. I'll tell
you a little bit about it. But basically a TikToker
by the name of Ariel Law. She recently shared a
video where she's using silicone face tape and she said,
(04:03):
I'm thirty nine years old and recently stopped getting anti
wrinkle injections over a year ago. I'm going to show
you how taping my face keeps my face smooth and
line free. And let me just tell you, like she's
in this video, she doesn't have a wrinkle on her face.
But I'm also like, is her anti wrinkle injections just
not worn off properly? Because you can see she's got smooth, clear,
(04:26):
glowing skin.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
How long do anti wrinkle injections usually last?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
So they usually well, it depends on the individual. So
usually the four month mark. I'd say they usually kind
of tape her off a little bit.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
It might get some residues.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
It depends on how your body breaks them down, obviously.
So she basically goes on to show her routine and
she uses this silicone scar tape, which she like cuts
up into little pieces places around her face in terms
of like where she's getting wrinkles, so like her crow's feet.
They are eleven lines in between. Just to eyebrows interest.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
When you say silicon scar tape, I'm imagining like just
really big looking pimple patch kind of things.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yes, So it feels kind of similar to that. So
there's like heaps of different ones on the market for
face taping. Not so much. There are ones now that
are made specifically for face taping, but I feel like
these are new. These are all just kind of coming out,
But there's tons of different ones out there. But the
idea behind it is basically that it's supposed to help
(05:24):
smooth out your wrinkles while you sleep, and it's supposed
to prevent your muscles from kind of like moving and
deepening when you sleep. You know, when you sleep and
you kind of like smash your face into the pillow.
In the next morning, you're like, oh my god, I've
got like all of the like side wrinkles. But you're like,
that was a good sleep. I slept so hard. This
is supposed to stop that happening and prevent those wrinkles
(05:46):
that happen when you are not moving your face. So
they're called like dynamic wrinkles. So when you're not moving
your face at all, if you can see certain wrinkles,
they're dynamic wrinkles. So they're just like you're resting wrinkles.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Kind of like the line to get on my forehead.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
I've got them right now. They're like near my crow's.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Face, smiling. You're a smiling I know.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
They're normal. That's the thing. They're normal lines that everyone
gets and not something you need to fit, of course,
but this trend has blown up. Silicone is meant to
help also with like hydrating your skin and creating a
barrier so your skin doesn't lose moisture. So that's supposed
to be another kind of benefit to plump a smoother skin.
(06:26):
So that's going around as a benefit. It sounds really good.
It's supposed to soften, you know, your fine lines and
encourage all this beautiful plumping of the skin. Anyway, So
I tried it over a few weeks and I've been
documenting the whole thing, a little treat for you before
I go to bed, and then in the morning, I've
(06:48):
basically videoed what I'm doing. So I want to walk
you through it, okay, and tell you about the products
I used and if it actually worked or not. So
basically what I did. I cut the silicone tape into
(07:08):
little pieces and I popped them over my dynamic wrinkles,
so my smile lines, my crow's feet the eleven lines.
So it's kind of like foreheadlines, user.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Based, right, Like wherever you see a lot in your face,
you just tape it up.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Well. I specifically followed a content creator called Kristin Walmsley,
so she had a specific kind of kind of cuff
that I showed. It was actually comfortable sleeping. I thought
it would be really uncomfortable during the night, but when
I woke up the next morning, I was like, oh,
it all stayed on my skin.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Oh watching you pull it from your eyes.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Pulling it looks sore. It wasn't actually that bad, but
I think I put it too close to my eyes.
And I cut it a little bit too long.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
And don't forget about the wrinkles.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I look a little bit disappointed because you can still
see a lot of crases, even more crazes than you.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
It looks like the tape left like a little outline
on the.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Tape left more ring. It's still going okay. Well, I
tried it again a few nights light and I used
a different technique. I kind of pulled my skin really
taught while I placed the tape on my face, and
I was like, Okay, this is gonna work. I woke
up the next morning, pulled the tape off, and I
was like, oh, hang on a minute. The lines are
(08:22):
even worse than what I did. So I basically left
a giant mark, especially round my crow's feet. I was like,
whoa new line.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
I love how you're also trying to get rid of
the lines on your eyeballs.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
I know, I think I put them too close to
my eyes. Anyway, I don't think it really worked that
well on me I tried. I definitely gave it a really,
really good shot. The silicone tape I used was actually
from Amazon. You can get it around nineteen dollars. It's
(08:57):
called ALARMI alarm. Here it is your silicone scar tape.
Take it out. It's basically like a roll of tape
that I used to cut to size and then place
over my wrinkles.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
What is it actually meant to do?
Speaker 2 (09:11):
This specific tape is for you know, flattening and softening scars.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Can I put one on?
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yeah? Try it so it's like a skin color kind
of tape. I think the good thing about this tape
was that my skin didn't feel like irritated afterwards. I
tried another like medical tape before while I was trying
this trend, and my skin fell a little bit red
and irritated when I peeled it off. Yeah, I still
had trouble peeling it off around my eyes, but I
(09:37):
think that was a user error. I don't know why
I cut them so long, but I was like, this
is going into my eyeball. I just feel like it
didn't work for me.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Yeah, and it also seems like a lot of effort
and like you slept well, but like, imagine if you're
one of those people, like I'm one of those people
that like I can't even have my earrings and when
I sleep, I can't get my necklaces like I have
to be like completely naked when I'm sleeping. I can't
have anything touching me, and I cannot fathom having to
put tape on my face. I'm going to sleep by
(10:07):
It's just.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
A whole process. But I think obviously on TikTok, the
results look so so good, but you've got to keep
in mind, like what's actually real, what's achievable. A lot
of these results that you see on TikTok are like
twenty one year olds being like, look, how good my
skin looks? Like I want to see a sixty year
old person, seventy year old person, like put it on
(10:29):
and then talk through the benefits.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
It just also shows the lengths we would go through
to like not have wrinkles at all. I'm like, if
you really really don't want wrinkles, just get the injections.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Oh, just like a good solid skincare routine. Like I
wouldn't pass off this. That was a thing on TikTok.
A lot of people like I've been using this instead
of retinal and injectibles. Even if you don't like injectibles,
like good solid skincare, a good skin care routine. Retinol
is like the gold standard ingredient for aging skin. I
(11:00):
feel like that can't be replaced, and I think that
as well. For people that do notice benefits, that's great,
but the benefits are obviously going to be temporary. Well,
so while it could be good, say if you're going
to an event or something and you want to put
them on just before an event, that could be great.
There's wrinkle Shminkles have like big silicone patches that you
(11:21):
can put on like your decolotage. They have big forehead ones.
These are really great pre event to smooth your skin out.
But as I said, all these results are temporary, so
it's not like a long term thing.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
And I feel like if you really want to get
rid of your wrinkles and change that, like this would
just be so disappointing, like trying this for a week
and then like.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
I'm costly as well, right, Like I mean, you're throwing
out so much tape spending money on that anyway, and
I can't take you serious with that little squeare. But
it's a fail for me, damn it.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Coming up after the break, I'm gonna be going through
my hair hack. So so I tried a little blow
dry hack over the last few days because I'm trying
to make it as easy as possible for me to
(12:18):
do my hair without actually having to do anything. And also,
this hack needed another person, so we're already you need
you need another person.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
You need another person in your life helping you. So
if you live alone like me, too bad. Oop. See
you can't do this.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
So this hack is all over TikTok and Instagram. But
I first saw it on a Facebook video, not that
so I was like a new or is this like
something that my mom has seen? Yeah, you know when
your like mum likes a video and it just comes
up on your Facebook feed. But no, it's like all
over TikTok and Instagram. A hairdressing account named Romanberg also
(12:55):
posted the video showing the routine, but it's pretty much everywhere.
You can't really pin it down. So I was like,
this should work, right, It should be like a trusty
little thing that will work.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Especially if the hairdresser is doing it.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Then you're like all right, Yeah, So the whole hack
is basically gathering your hair into a ponytail and then
pulling it up like as high as you can.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Okay, so almost like you got the little like waterfall.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Like think cindylu in The Grinch. Love it like pulling
it up, so you're only holding probably like the ends
of your hair in an upwards position. Yeah, which is
why if you have really long hair, you need a
second person because as you're holding this part, it like
falls down as like a little water fountain.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Yeah. So like the tips to where like maybe it's
like a little kid, yeah doing that, but and then
to an adult.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Pull it town is like a little water found in
the tips of your hair and like a nice little circle.
And then you get a blow dryer and you just
blow dry the circle bit and then the person who's
helping let's go, and you have like these luscious bouncy
it looks like a flesh blow dried hair.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Oh I love it. Flesh.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
It looks like a fresh blow dried hair.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Looks like you have flesh hair. Yeah sounds kay beautiful.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
So I was like, okay, I called our beauty social
producer live over and I was like, you need to
help me.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Do this live James in the house.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
So because her hair dry is very very loud, we
filmed this prior to Bless Your Ears. So here's the video.
So lives gathered my hair, and she just spent like
I would say, twenty to thirty seconds blow drying my head.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
This is it on like high heat, right, yeah?
Speaker 3 (14:39):
So the thing is, it's like we started off in
high heat and then we had to put it low
because live was burning a hand. Oh yeah, because it's
so close to your hand.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Workplace incident right here, don't get involved.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
And then I turned around and watched the results.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Ah, she just fell so fight. Your hair even looked
straight off, looks even more straight. Oh damn, because it
looks so good. Okay, And we did some investigation Facebook, apparently.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
We investigated this. One of the videos I saw, we
realized that the person who was getting the hair the
hair before I'm not even joking. Oh really, like you
quickly see a little snippet of them having like also
not just blow dried hair, but like the perfect layers
to make a natural blow dry.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
The second person had curly hair, like professionally curled hair
and tried. It didn't work obviously because her hair was curled.
And this was like we were in a.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Hack for girls who haven't had a haircut in like
six months, who only had like five minutes.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
But also we were a bit silly with this one,
because then I looked at the comments after we did this,
and like all the comments were like, oh so it's
a lie then, and they had like one hundred thousand likes.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
You're like, oh god, damn it. Do you know what
I like to do though? End? Because I hate curling
my hair. I don't mind blow drying it, but it
just takes ages, and I suck at curling it with
like a curling battle. But if I want like a
kind of like textured wave, I just wash my hair.
I blow dry it straight, just really rough, and then
I just put my hair in like a really low
(16:18):
bun with like a silk hair tie, sleep in it.
The next morning. I've just got a really natural weight,
what so pull it back into a ponytail like the
nape in my neck, twist it round like a ballerina bun,
and just twist it right round into doughnut get like
a silk hair tie, and then double it over. I
go to sleep, and it won't kink that way with
(16:39):
the silk hair tie. When I wake up, I swear
it works really good with long hair. When I've got
shorter hair, doesn't work that well. I'll have like a
really nice way and I don't have to go and
like curl. Oh my god, I suck it curling and
all that kind of.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Maybe my next hair hack should be that one, and
then we can see if you're lying or not.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Oh no, And then I'm like one of those girls
who get their hair done before work and I'm like, see,
am it was just a hair tie.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
It's just a hair ty.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Oh anyway, maybe try that.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
So this one's definitely a fail. And also learning curve
to check the comments before you just pull someone out
of their day job to try a hack that doesn't work. Also,
if something looks too good to be true, it is.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Damn it. Thank you so much for listening to this
episode of Tried and Tested. We had not a good date,
but I feel like we had some good tips. We're
saving you time, we're saving you time money.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
The nail is saving your time and money, I think.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
So we had some good tits alongside it, I guess.
So it's helpful to kind of cut through all that noise.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Glad that we're saying this. We're so helpful. We're fine,
we're doing a great job here. You can tune back
in tomorrow for in her bag with Kelly and Sarah Marie.
They're back with another Christmas gift guide God than nailing it.
They've got presents for teachers and colleagues.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
We're going to need to do that because we've got
a mom and may like Secret Saanda coming out.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
I was actually gonna link you that episode after this,
but just in case any ideas it's right.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Your Beauty is produce used by the Lovely Cassie Merrit
with audio production by Lou Hill and video production by
Julian Rosario.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
We will see you next week. Bye bye,
