Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to a MoMA Mia podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Mamma Mia acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters
that this podcast is recorded on.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Makeup is my therapy in love.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
I'm obsessed and I don't even feel guilty a body.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
Hello, and welcome to you Beauty, the daily podcast for
Your Face.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
I am Sarah Marifa and I'm Kelly McCarran.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
And this is in Her Bag, the podcast where we
discuss what's in your bag and why.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
And Today you beis our biggest beauty splurges of all time.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
We've all done it.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
We've dropped way too much money on a beauty product
thinking it's going to change our life, and sometimes it
really lives up to what we imagined, but a lot
of the time it does not.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
How you're going to know until you do it exactly.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
We're going to talk about the hits, the regrets, and
the ones that made us question our life choices.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Plus Kelly and I we are going to fight to
prove to each other that our current beauty obsessions are
totally worth the splurge.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
It is on, go, Yeah, it's on, But I also
feel like both of us are as bad as each
other and be like, yeah, that's a pretty good point.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Just go buy it.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
If you need someone to tell you yeah, girls, call
one of us and we will be the person to
be like, Okay, just buy it.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
We will be able to justify it for you. Let's
get into it. I had to find the liner in
my back. So first up, Sarah Marie, we've got some
women from around the office to tell us what their
biggest beauty sploges were. Was it a drawing purchase or
was it a total letdown? Now we've got no idea
(01:43):
what they've said. Producer Cast is surprising us with these.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
I love when we go around the office.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Same and I also love to get a little surprise
on on airs if.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
We're a radio show.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
So this first one's from Courtney.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
I once spent about twelve hundred dollars on RF needling.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Well, I feel like that's very overpriced for one session
of RF needling.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
I reckon it was a package. Twelve hundred dollars for
RF needling. You'd have to be doing a package because
you need to do it a few times.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
He meant today, like at least three times. So maybe
that was for three sessions. Unless she's just.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Really gotten rinsed. Have you done her of needling?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:21):
A huge fan. Oh you're a huge fan of Orapling.
So do you think twelve hundred dollars it's worth it
for one session? No? Like, let's just say it's a package. Oh,
for three sessions absolutely absolutely okay? But for one session
too much? Well she got rinsed. Okay, So let's see
what Courtney thinks.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
Would I say it was worth it? Look, I only
did two out of the three sessions. And the reason
I only did two out of three is because I
actually had a bit of a breakdown mid session about
how much money i'd spent, about my insecurities, about the patriarchy,
about capitalism, about how my parents never would have thought
(02:56):
to spend this much money on their skin, about how
my partner would never do that. It really set me off,
So I just couldn't return for a third session. But
that's not a criticism of anyone else. Overall, No, I
don't think it was worth it because I didn't feel
so I didn't get to see the results that a
few sessions is meant to have.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Listen, Courtney, we totally understand where you're coming from. I
personally do, because I remember I had just had Malick
and it was like, maybe my first session back to
go get my eyelash extension. Something so simple, it's going
to take me an hour and a half to do.
It wasn't as big as splurge, as irap needling. And
I was halfway to my eyelash extension appointment and I
(03:35):
just broke down crying and I called the technician and
I canceled. I felt so guilty spending on myself, but
you would in time, and my soul.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Still I had to spend it because you were on
your way, like the yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
But it was the fact that I was going taking
that time someone else was watching my kid, the guilt
that played in my head. I understand, Courtney. I just
want to give you the biggest cuddle. I'm going to
give you a big air cuddle from here, and I
really want you just to go and prove to yourself
that you're worth it, and go and get that third
session and just block out everything in your head.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Takes deep breath and just do it.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
All right.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
We've got one more from around the office, so I
have really really dry skin and crisis and I bought
the Shanta Kai gewl foundation. It's one hundred and fifty
dollars and it's not even that much product. It is
so worth it. I don't wear foundation all the time.
So it's been like six months, I think, and I've
barely made a dent. I thought she was going to
(04:33):
show she hated it.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I love that she loves it. She spent her hard
earned money. And yes, it's so much money, but she
spent it. She loves it, she uses it. That's another thing,
like you know when you're little and you get something
really like your rollerblades, and then you never wear them
and then you grow out of them.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Like she's using it.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
I love this and it works for her and she's
found that other things don't.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
And especially if she's getting csoriasis and she's found something
that's winning on her skin. Yeah, it doesn't matter if
it's one hundred and fifty dollars, she's just going to keep.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
So a great recommendation of anyone playing along at home
that has that problem.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Absolutely, that's really hard because it's not just dry skin risis,
it's like a different level. So I love that recommendation.
It's a spendy that we love that way, Yes, sir, all.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Right after the break, the story is behind our biggest
buyers remorse moments and the products that genuinely were worth
the spent.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
How do you do it? Come on, I'll show you. Okay,
Sarah Murray, do you want to start with your hit?
So my hits, I've got two hits.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
The Fourio Cleansing and Firming cleansing brush. It's two hundred
and sixty nine dollars. When I first got it, I
just thought maybe it's a gimmicky, but everyone was talking
about it. I love it when I started using it.
It's so gentle on the skin. It really hugs around
the curves of the nose, and my skin over time
(06:01):
was clearer, so it was actually cleansing my face at
a deeper level. And I didn't even realize how good
it was until I was using it for a few months.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
You charge it once. I feel like it lasts a year.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
It lasts so long you don't have to recharge it
every week every month. Even it lasts probably six months
in my personal experience, I think that's such a hit.
So for people who don't know what it is, it
kind of looks like a semi circle egg that vibrates.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
It looks like a vibrator. It looks like a vibrator.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
It really does. With little texture things on the front.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
It cleanses your pause. So yes, that is a win
for me. And eyelash extensions.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Oh my god, I think.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
You would not be you if you didn't treat yourself
to the eyelash extensions.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
One hundred percent. I look so different without my eyelash extensions,
Like I just feel like my eyes look much.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
I feel like your eyes must look balled with because
my eyelashes are straight that I'd be.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
So waked out if I saw you without eyelash extensions. Okay,
well here you go. Here's one with me. Well the
one of you that we saw last week with the
green shadow on.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Oh well, yeah, that's me without lash extensions. But even
me with like less green eyes shadow, that's not so bad.
I've had to use a lot of eye makeup there.
If you're worried about time and spending money on extra
makeup or things like that, alish extensions just to you
don't have to.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Wear makeup through the day.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Like. It saves me so much time and I would
never go back.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, I've spent thousands on skin treatments like needling, and
I do not regret it at all.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
I had very.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Severe acne at different stages between the ages of twelve
and twenty seven twenty eight, and skin needling and light
therapy cleared it up finally, and ever since touch Wood,
I've had reasonably good skin and I've committed to continuing
on that. Like skin, Johnny, if you will, So yeah,
(08:01):
don't even know how much I've spent, but worth every
single cent for the sense of self confidence that it
has given me and confidence to be my own skin,
because I literally used to just look in the mirror
and sob and just want to scratch my face off
because it was really uncomfortable. I felt so gross and
it was just awful. So definitely all my skin treatments.
(08:25):
And then also the dice in air rap that is
nine hundred and fifty dollars.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
I love it, you.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Love and I never thought that I would be a
dice and air rap girly, but if it broke, I
would go out and buy one straight away.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Oh, I see you speak so highly about this dice
in air rap. One hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I love it. I use it all the time.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
I've heard so much things because you told me as well.
They've got different attachments and things. Yeah, Gray, I think
skin care you can't go wrong.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Let's have a bit of a giggle. Now, what are
the biggest fails?
Speaker 4 (08:50):
So for me, I would say the biggest fail, and
I'm sure there's one out there that does work really well,
but those hair dryer brushes. I'm talking like the Dice
and Air Straight. I love my Dice and Air Straight.
You've got your diceon like air rap. It's not that,
it's like the ones that they say you can style
your hair with, and it's like.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
A bouncy blowout, like it's got.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
Barely any strength. And if you've got really curly hair
like mine, it's not gonna remove. Takes so lough, and
it really doesn't. Your hair already needs to be I
think like semi straight for that to do anything, I'd
rather spend them like my Dice and Air Straight or
something like that and do that. Also, this might be controversial,
(09:31):
so don't hate me on saying that these I don't
like the Chanel now polishes.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
You buy them because you want the little piece of Chanel,
not because you think it's gonna be an amazing mail product.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Right, Like they take so long to draw.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Do they like the colors are lovely, but they just
take so long to dry. They're not worth the money
you're spending, they do, I'd rather go to OPI.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
I feel like that.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Well, they're a nail brand, right like I just feel
like a brand like Chanelle. They literally would probably use
the cheapest formula, no R and D behind then now polishes.
But they're just like, here's a little luxury piece of
Chanel that you can have at home.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Like a nice gift exactly. You know the.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Mermaid hair crimper thingy oh, do you remember the first
one that came out. Yeah, I was on the waitlist
because I saw all of those like Mermaid hair ads
and I was like, oh my goodness, this is gonna
be the best thing ever. So on the waitlist we
had to pre order it, and then finally a couple
of months later it got sent to me and I
was so excited. My face because I was like filming
(10:31):
my reaction is so sad when I just my head
just looks like.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
A limp fish that just comes out of the thing.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
It was the biggest dud, and to this day, I
still don't understand what the point like just do your
hair and a few plats while it's damp, and you're
gonna get the exact same effect.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
To spend an hour.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
It takes so long doing big crimpy things on my
hair for it to look like I've put that little
effort in. Oh yeah, finally this. I bought it in
the Mecca Boxing Day sale. It was one hundred and
eighty dollars foundation, so I spent ninety on it, not
one hundred and eighty dollars.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Ninety dollars.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
It is disgusting. I want you to try it. It's
called the Bye Terry. I don't even think it exists anymore.
Oh and why dentsaloss loll Because it's Denselest product foundation
one hundred and eighty dollars.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Okay, yeah, you know what. It started off so different.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Okay, So when it goes on your skin, I thought
this was going to be like a creamy for coverage
type of one.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
And I thought maybe that's why you didn't like it.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
And as you message on, it kind of becomes like
a translucent but powder finish.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Yeah, and I don't think that's a combination. I like,
no one likes it.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
It's Dentlest.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Why do you want translucent powdered Why do I want
it exactly coverage?
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Like sorry, unless I'm like, try looking an actual oil
slick of a human.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Why would I want that on my face? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Like, yeah, it's so powdery, that's so deceivingly right, Yeah,
it starts off so strong.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
So I put it on my face and then I
looked in the mirror closely, and I was.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Like, you know what burns me. It's the price that they're.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Charging for this Outrageous's ridiculous because that's just powder.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
It's just feral powder, not even nice powder, just cheap,
nasty powder.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Itself a good compact powder, and you.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Get exactly the same effect, if not better. All right,
coming up after the break, can we convince each other
plot twist, Yes, that we should purchase our latest beauty obsessions.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Put it on buy now, pay later. Yes. In the bag,
Baby in the bag.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Okay, so this is a special edition of ad to
Bag because we're going to be pitching to each other.
But like I said, I really don't think that the
other person will need much convinced.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
We're the worst people to be around if you're trying
to save money. Okay, I'm going to get my pitch.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Out full presentation.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Okay, so the Lamaire, the iebarm Intense, it's a fifteen
mil i cream. Everyone, it's four hundred and forty dollars.
I have been umming and owring, and this is my pitch.
Go on investors aka kels. Today, I'm bringing you a
luxury beauty investment, so exclusive, so transformative that it deserves
(13:23):
a place in our bag. And let's be real, if
we're dropping four hundred and forty dollars on an ibomb,
it better come with a VP seat. So let's talk
about a universal struggle. Our under eyes are in crisis.
We're dealing with the dark circles darker than our life choices,
fine lines forming faster than our screen time stats, and
pipinus so intense it could be carrying emotional baggage. And
(13:46):
since sleep is a myth at least in my case,
we need a solution that actually works, something.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
We'd proudly carry in our bag at all times.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Introducing the La Mayer balm Intense, a tiny but mighty
jar of miracle broth infused magic that hydrates, smooths and
deep pups like it has personal vendetta against our tired
eyes packed with sustainably harvested seakelp. This bomb is so
fancy it practically whispers I am so I'm Redahampton.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
It whispers I'm read which, oh, and.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Did we mention it comes with a cooling applicator. For
this price, we were hoping for a mini spa technician,
but we'll settle for a metal tip that instantly wakes
up our face and makes us look like we actually
respect our bedtime. So now let's talk investment. Okay, this
isn't just an I cream, It's an anti fatigue strategy.
(14:40):
The lamaire eyebarmb is working overtime to strengthen delicate under
ice skin, blur fine lines, and keep us looking effortlessly
expensive because let's be honest, no one needs to know
we spend our nights scrolling TikTok instead of getting.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Eight hours of sleep. So, investors, here's the deal.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
If we're putting anything in our bag, it needs to
be worth it. And this, this is a power move
in a jar four hundred and forty dollars commitment to
looking fresh, awake, and like we have our lives together
even if we don't. Are you in No, no.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
You lost me.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
I literally have like not listened to most of what
you said.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
You lost me as soon as you said lamaire No,
oh my god.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Lamaire is just something that like rich old ladies use.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Okay enough, you're not old enough to.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
I don't think you're old enough to or rich enough
yet to justify it. Like you can get something that
is so good for half the price that will do
the same thing.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
You're just paying for the brand.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Okay, just in case you said no, I did google
the alternative so on. Okay, there's one by skin Suiticles
Age Advanced i Cream yep.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
And you know what skin.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Suiticles put their money where their mouth is or whatever
that saying is, because their research and development is like
it's pioneering the whole industry basically.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Oh okay, well it's one hundred and sixty nine dollars yep.
Still expensive, but I'll allow it. Oh okay, So there
we go. I've done a picture about Lamire. She's saying
no to that. My Google search she's saying yes.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
I'm saying go buy your skin suiticles.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
Okay, So skin Suiticals for the wind Okay, I've lost
my pitch.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
You lost and we really thought that we were going
to have an easy win there, but I'm not old
or rich enough. Brutally, my pitch is for the Natasha
Denona Bloom eye shadow palette.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Okay, all right, do.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
You want to see it? Yes, it's beautiful, isn't it?
I just saw It's lovely?
Speaker 1 (16:40):
All right? Listen here?
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Okay, did you know, Sarah Marie that Natasha Donona is
a chemist and formulates every single product herself, so not
one of her eye shadows has the same formula. They
are all super unique because she fiddles with them all
in her little lab, so they're perfect and that's why
they're all so good. Do I need another eye shadow palette?
Absolutely not. Is it basically collectors item because Natasha herself
(17:06):
did the water color artwork on the packaging. Yes, the
quality is why the pigment and payoff are so.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Good with these products.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
It's one hundred and twenty four dollars, but that is
eight dollars and twenty cents per shade because it is
a full palate.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
That's less than my coffee.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
And I'm not going to shit the eyeshadows out hours
of fun, hours of joy, And what.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Is the cost of that priceless Should I buy it?
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Yes, yes, I'm saying yes, you should buy it. You
won me at the fact that it's like even beautiful
other packaging if you don't shot it out. If I
heard that at the beginning, you would have lost me
as an investor. I'd be like, she's eating her I should.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
A poet, like she's weird, she's got a problem.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
You won me over with this one. I actually think
that feels like it's worth idiots.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Oh my god, it's so beautiful. If you love the
look of this, but you are after a savy. I
did find the Makeup Revolution, the True Icon Bronze eye
shadow Palate. It's eighteen dollars.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
I know what. Though, as lovely as that is, it's
not the same. It's not the same.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
I think it's a really nice alternative eighteen dollars, specially
just to try. But I have to say that Natasha
Donna one and it's a larger one.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
You get more in there, and eight.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Dollars shade and I will use them more.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
My god, I'm so excited you can.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
I'm going to go purchase my Natasha Doanoona Samari is
not going to go purchase hurt La.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Mare I'm heading over to skin Suiticals. I'm not on
a walk last.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
We're talking about that like it's budget, and it's like, no, it's.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Still a hundred and sixty three dollars. Yeah, it's really not,
oh dearly.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
But they do last a long time, exactly. And on
that note, that's all we've got time for today.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Ubre going shopping.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
I'll be back tomorrow for Spendy sav with Lee and
Sarah Marine.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
I'll be back next week.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
