You're listening to a MoMA Mia podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Mamma Mia acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters
that this podcast is recorded on.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Hello, uvs.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
M Vernon here, and my beauty bestie Erin, as you know,
is off to have her baby. She's very very important,
doing very very important things. And we're having a short
break after the You Beauty Awards. So I've been digging
up some of my favorite Tried and Tested episodes and
I found this little gem. It's where Aaron talks about
all the over hyped pregnancy products. And I also have
(00:44):
something very overhyped. I try the donut blush trend. We
hope you enjoy this and I will see you soon.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Makeup is my therapy. I'm obsessed and I don't even
feel chailty about it. Hello, and welcome to You Beauty,
the daily podcast for Your Face. I'm Aaron Dougherty.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Here and I'm M Vernon, and you are listening to
Tried and Tested, the show where we put new treatment
products and hacks to the test so you don't have
to unless.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
They're really good. You look so cute today. You've got
nice little spiky nineties fun go Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yes, and you let me this hair tie.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Thank you. Love. Okay, on the show today, I am
going to talk to you about my pregnancy glow down.
I've really been loving during pregnancy. In case you missed it,
I am pregnant. Have we announced that you're pregnant. We've
kind of scattered it around, scattered little hints here.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Started with the nipple barm and now she's gone.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
And now she committed to the course like I've got
a nipple bar. I've got to get me a kid.
I'm with child. So I have lots of products that
I want to share with you. What have you brought today?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
I'm so excited. Today I am doing a bit of
a hack that I've been seeing all over TikTok. It's
called the glazed doughnut highlight.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
I know this one. I've seen this.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
It's literally everywhere. I'm sorry, I couldn't find the source
of the person who started it, but it's literally everywhere.
I guess it's a little hack, a makeup hack that
helps you get like a really glowy, blushy look on
your face.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Okay, okay, let's get into it. Then testing one to
three did it work? So obviously you can have a
lot of different changes to your skin when you're pregnant.
I haven't had any anything major. I've had a couple
of like hormonal breakouts and stuff at the start. Now
my skin's pretty sweet. There's not too much going on.
(02:38):
I haven't experienced malasma or anything like that just yetma
So with malasma, that's like a really common pregnancy and
postpartum skin issue that can happen. It's basically like a
form of pigmentation, those little dark patches that kind of
break up all over your face. I was actually talking
to doctor Ryan Dacruz a couple of weeks ago about
(02:59):
malasma and different ingredients that can help trade and prevent it.
I'm going to pop a link in the show notes
for those who've experienced that or have it at the moment.
He was just such a wealth of knowledge and had
some really good recommendations. A lot of my friends struggled
with that during pregnancy. As I said, my skin has
been pretty fine. I've just basically ditched vitamin A from
my skincare routine, so all retinal I haven't been using that.
(03:22):
I've still been using like vitamin C and kind of
keeping money moved on to the chill oils because I
think I spoke to so many experts that were like,
it's good, but it's not the same as retinal. So
I'm just like, ah, it's on the bench at again.
One day it will be there again. The wrinkles are
having a time right now, and that's fine. I've been
(03:42):
lucky on that front. However, on the body front, I've
noticed concerns that I've never had before. I usually completely
ignore my body care routine.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
I'm just like, ah, and you're like, well, I have
a human in here now.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Now it's like doing things to my skin. So after
the break, I'm going to give you a rundown of
it all, because even if you're not pregnant, there's so
many great products here that I found, like this little
gold mine of products. They know any of this before.
(04:14):
I've been noticing my skin has been feeling like it's
stretching because there is because physically it feels really tight
and itchy, and my boobs are feeling ginormous, legs are
feeling achy. I want to talk about like stretch marks
first because I feel like it's the number one thing people.
I mean, so many groups where people are always talking
(04:36):
about them, asking what works, asking what's going to help
treat or cure their stretch marks. As an FYI, there's
no miracle cream oil product that is going to get
rid of stretch marks.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Stretch marks, like stretch marks are a thing, Like it's
so bizarre, but it's the one thing that I remember
getting my first stretch mark on my thighs when I
was about ten years old in primary school and it
was like one thing that like I just knew from
like all the women's magazine in my parents' bathrooms.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
I'm like, I should not be having.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
It's treated like such.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
It's like why I feel alien.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Because it's such a common thing and it's so normal
our bodies, like they change and those little marks don't
really mean anything and that's not something that needs to
be fixed. But of course in the wonderful land of beauty,
it's made to look at something that needs to be fixed.
I think it's just worth noting that that you can't
prevent them. It's genetic. If your mum, if your grandma,
(05:39):
if someone in your family has them, you're more likely
to have them. That's just what it is. Not the
stretch marks. Stretchmarks are beautiful However, I want to talk
about some of the stuff that I've been using to
kind of like help with a feeling of tightness and
just skin stretches, like that's what happens. It's so ouchy
and it feels uncomfortable. But there's some really good products
(06:02):
that I've been using to help my skin fielm more
nourished and hydrated. I want to start with oils because
I've been going on the oils. First up, of course,
Brillow Beauty the Oil Classic. Another note, all of these
products are for everyone. It's not just for pregnancy or postpartum.
This oil is super nourishing. It hydrates, softens and smoother skin.
(06:25):
I just love that I can put it on before
I go to bed, after I've had my shower and
it doesn't feel gross and like sticky. It's non greasy,
sinks into the skin. I also discovered Belly Guide by
jew So this is fifty nine to ninety five. It's
a little bit of a bigger bottle. It smells really
really lux and also Loxatan Supple Skin Oil seventy five dollars.
(06:49):
This is a spray. It's really easy to use, it
smells delicious. It smells exactly like the almond oil, the
almond shower oil, and I love that you can just
split it directly onto your skin.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
So do you put this on every night?
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yes, So I've been using this every night Brillo. That's
been my favorite, but I do have high rotation of
the rest of them. I've got like so many different
oils that I've been using. I feel like I have
to use something because it feels like I come out
of the shower and I'm like ow, everything feels like
really tight, which is a time. Okay, next up, I
want to talk about my achy legs because they're so sore.
(07:25):
It's a common thing I didn't know about.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Is that because like your your baby's also going so
there's like more weight on your leg.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
I think it's a little bit of that, and it's
a little bit of you know, your changes in your
blood circulation. Hormones you get like leg cramps especially sound
like a good time. It's not a good time.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
This.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Babies are like literal alien. Your legs just feel really heavy.
So I've been using a few different magnesium sprays. I've
never used magnesium spray. So the thing with magnesium, it
basically helps the tension in your muscles, so it's supposed
to help you sleep better, supposed to help that achiness
go away. There's a lot of different products with magnesium
(08:03):
in it. Sprayed on the bottom of my feet and
the back of my knees before I go to bed.
I've got a few here. Scarlet Magnesium Spray twenty four dollars.
This is a really great one, especially for period cramps
as well as you can spray on your stomach. My
sister has really bad period pain. She uses this one too,
and she loves it. So this is a really, really
(08:24):
great one. And I've got the Amazing Oils Magnesium Spray
twenty two ninety five. You can get that one at
the chemist as well. There's lots of great ones you
can get at the chemist. I've also got nipple.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Balm, oh my god, and that they actually need attention.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
They get so irritated during pregnancy, like if someone brushes
your nipple.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
It's literally so kind of similar to how they hurt
when you're about to get your period.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah, it's like that, but like last longer. They're like
okay right now. But I've been using different nipple products,
so different nipple bombs I've got the gew Nipstick Soothing
nipple bars. I put it on my lips because I
love using all of them on my lips twenty four
to ninety five. It's a great one because it's really
really nourishing. Your nipples can get like cracked and dry,
(09:11):
not just post pregnancy when you're breastfeeding, but during pregnancy
as well, so it's good to kind of like have
that as part of your routine. I know it's an
auchy time. The Lance No Lanoline nipple cream at twelve
ninety nine. You know how much I love this one.
This again lips. They're just like she's like.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
She doesn't get her lips out at the desks.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Using your nipple creams. So they're just like really really
great bombs. I've also been using a couple of moisturizers
on rotation. I've got the QV one, the QV Seramides
Cream twenty ninety nine. That's a chemist lunched a big tub.
I love a big time. I know it's so good.
It lasts forever, really affordable and feels really nice and hydrating.
There's been a lot of nails for me, though, I
(09:53):
feel like I've noticed that I had like no kind
of body care routine at all, and now I'm pregnant,
I'm like, wow, I'm paying more attention to my body
than I am my face in a way. Yeah, because
not only does it make you feel good, but it
kind of makes you, I don't know, you feel more
connected to your body in a way when you're actually
(10:13):
doing your body routine and you're like, oh, okay, anyway,
So that's that's me.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
That's a couple of nails cop nails recommendations. Your baby's like, thank.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
You, thanks so much, you're glowing. Okay.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
So over the break, I tried to kind of change
up my makeup routine. I always like feel like I
just stick to the same things over and over again,
and then I'm like, well this is kind of boring.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
I love this new year knew me.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, I'm a beauty podcast host. I can't be looking
like this every day of my life.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Like that's crazy. They're gonna fire me. That's a great
So what have you changed? I saw this TikTok.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Actually I saw heaps of tiktoks of like these little
makeup hacks, and usually I just scroll on past time
because I'm like, I know how to do my face.
I'm fine, but I was like, you know what, Emily.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
You need to learn something.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
You need to learn something. The biggest issue I have
with my makeup is I do my foundation, I do
my blush, I do my highlight, I do my bronzer.
When it comes to blush highlight on bronzer, I don't
feel like I've nailed the placement. And I feel like,
no matter how many different makeup to turials I watch,
they all do it differently.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Yeah, because it depends on your face though as well.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
It depends on your face, but everyone has different faces.
I need like my.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Like do it this way, do it this way.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
And I haven't found it yet.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
So I saw this hack.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
It's called the Glazed Donut Highlight hack, and it shows
you how to do like your highlight and blush together.
And I think what I really liked about this hack
was that it made the placement really easy and it
just seemed to work for me. So essentially what you
do and you would have seen videos on TikTok like
they're everywhere, but it requires you to have two products,
(11:57):
a highlight and a blush, and they both have to
be liquid products. And it's called a glazed donut hack
because you pretty much draw a donut on your face
with the products, so you take your highlight. Everyone on
TikTok has been using the rare beauty products. I use
the Rare Beauty blush for this one, but I've been
using this Elf Halo Glow Beauty one highlight in the
(12:19):
color Champagne. They have three different colors, like a more
silvery one and more rose gold one. I've been using
this gold one because my undertone is gold and I
think your highlight should reflect your undertone. This one you
can get for twenty four dollars from price Line. It
is like perfect. I love it so much. And I
did use the rare beauty blush because this is my
go to blush. Like, look how dirty it is.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Oh love that. This is a little bit intense.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Though, right, it's really intense, So use like.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
A tiny bit.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yeah, and you can get blush blindness from it, like
because I use it every day. Sometimes I'll just come
into work and people will be like, you just want
more really red, and I'm like, oh, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
But do you mean beautiful? You mean gorgeous.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
You can get this from Mecca for forty five dollars.
My shade I use is worth she has like multiple
friend Selena has multiple shades.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Know. But after the break, I'm going to show.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
You exactly how I did this hack. Okay, I filmed
myself doing this. If you are listening to this on
your podcast app, we actually have filmed this episode that
we put up on our YouTube channel. We will link
that in our show notes. You can see us try
all the products irrall. But what I did was I
(13:31):
literally just put the onand to my cheek, on like
the apples of my cheek, and I just drew the circle.
I made it more into an ovalless shape because I
wanted like the length of my face to be seen.
I then took my blush and just did a dot
in the middle of that highlight circle in the center.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
In the center. I thought I was gonna say, no,
kind of looks like you're drawing like a pimple. Like
a pimple, Yeah, massive, pat.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
And I just took my brush and I just blended
that together. And then with the blending you can blend
it however, you blend your blush so.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
You're kind of like stippling it into your face.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah, I'm going up towards my browbone, and then like
sometimes I pull it down towards my cheek and it
just gives you like this really blushy but glowy look.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
And that looks beautiful. It's like a two in one,
and I was obsessed with it.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
I immediately was happy, so I did it on the other side.
That looks like I'm wearing it right now. I hate
the whole like, oh, my highlights here, I should have
done it a bit lower, and now my blush it's
like bleeding in.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
And then you feel like it's not blended properly and
you can actually see the strips and you're like, just
do it together.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
It's so easy and it works really well, especially during
the summer, because once you have the product on your face,
you can actually blend it in whichever direction you wanted
to be blended in. I went a bit hardcore on
this one because I.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Love a blush, so you go for like a second second.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Blush so much.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
I think this is such a great one because it's
for everyone. You can just kind of place it in
terms of like your own facial features. It's not following
like a strict kind of placement rule.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Yeah, it will literally work for everyone. And if you
are nervous about pigmentation of liquid blushes, the highlight actually
cuts a lot of that pigment.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Out look at your skin.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
So I just did like a bit of a shot
in the sign.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
It looks.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Oh my god, I'm obsessed with the way that this looks.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
I feel it's so easy at time as well. Yeah,
it was so easy. I'm going to try that. You're glowing.
It is a nail.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
It's a huge nail.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
And I feel like a lot of people will have
those products at home anyway, like in their makeup kit.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
And because I'm blending together, like you don't really need
like the expensive ones, like the rare Beauty highlight is
also like around the forty five dollar mark, but this
is twenty four dollars from Priceline and it works.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
So we just need a cream highlight and a cream
blush and that's it and just go for goal. Oh
I'd love that. Okay, I'm going to try that. I'm
reporting that way to let you know how I felt.
Thank you so much for listening to this episode of
You Beauty, and tune in tomorrow for In Her Bag
with Kelly and Sammury that'll be another great episode. I
love those guys.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
I'm so cuty together. I'm very very excited You. Beauty
is produced by Cassie Merritt, with audio production by Lou
Hill and video production by Julian Rosario. We will see
you next week.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
