In this episode, Sarah Marie and Kelly take on the 5-minute makeup challenge, breaking down their go-to products and techniques for those mornings when you're racing against the clock.

Sarah Marie swears by her powder-heavy approach (complete with products she adorably keeps in their original boxes), while Kelly's "just-enough-to-not-terrify-your-ex" strategy involves slapping on cream sticks with carefree confidence. We teach you how to level up your 5-minute routine, and Sarah Marie flexes her pro MUA credentials, casually revealing she could overhaul a bride’s entire glam between “I do” and entrée — a claim Kelly may have side-eyed at first, but quickly came to admire.

You're listening to Amma Mia podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Mama Mia acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters
that this podcast is recorded on.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Makeup is My Therapy.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm obsessed and I don't even feel.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Guilty about it.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Hello, and welcome to you Beauty, the daily podcast for
Your Face.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
I am Sarah Mary five.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
And I'm Kellen McCarran.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
And this is the show where we take a deep
dive into our makeup bags or our beauty bags in
general and talk about why why are different things in there?

Speaker 5 (00:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Why are different things in there?

Speaker 4 (00:43):
I've actually got like a big proper makeup bag today.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
You brought your makeup back in. I chucked everything around
my makeup bag today.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Isn't that cute?

Speaker 4 (00:53):
It's so cute. We're going to discuss a couple of
things like that. Yes, we're talking about the five minute face.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Five minute face for you guys.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
You can use all of these products in five minutes. No,
you can use like one, she's you can use five.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
We've limited to like five minutes for those. My five
minute face is in here.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Oh OK, let's get into it.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
I had to find the liner in my bag. But
first we put a call out to the Ubis to
see what is your number one product for a really quick,
easy five minute phase.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
And here's what they had to say.

Speaker 6 (01:27):
Bare Minerals have this product called Complexion Rescue Skin perfecting tint,
And if I only have five minutes to do my makeup,
that is the best thing I can put on my face.
It just gives me a nice, even complexion. It makes
me feel like I've got my shit together, even if
I'm rushing all around the place. I'm running lay whatever
that is my ride or die.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Sheel cream.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
I have not tried this, and I need to add
it to my carsh and tried ace Oup because that
sounds incredible.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
I actually think it's right up your alley because I've
just googled it and it looks like a beautiful glowy
hydrating gel.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Oh yes, so basically it's Kelly in it.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
It's Kelly in a tube basically, so I shall be
purchasing and I will report back. I have to say,
you can't go wrong with the tint. You need to
have one on you.

Speaker 7 (02:12):
If I only have five minutes to do my makeup,
my go to is definitely nas Radiant creamy concealer. I
think once your eyebags are gone, you just look like
a normal person. So I just that is a must
to conceal the eyes and the darkness under the eyes.
I go for the crambreu Let color, which is just

(02:32):
such a perfect match with my skin, and I just
couldn't live without under eye concealer.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
I love the passion in her voice when she says this,
I cannot live.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
I would simply just cease to exist if this product didn't.
Don't you think, though, I mean, I get it, but
I also think that's quite an intense concealer to have
no other makeup on.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Or do you think she's really shearing it out?

Speaker 2 (02:53):
I think it depends on how you apply it because
or you know me, all my concealers have a lot
of coverage. So if I'm using it without foundation, I
have to use a beauty blender tyle.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Like a makeup sponge to apply it.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
And I lightly like a smaller amount of it so
you can play, you know how to play with it.
You're fine, Yeah, but you can't use that normally orgy.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Without using like a good hydrating primer or something on Anthony.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah, yeah, I agree. It needs to be able to blend,
but yeah, it's definitely doable. I agree you need a concealer.
People who don't have one, I just don't understand you.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
I don't always know what.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, but you have one?

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yeah, oh sorry, Yes I do.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
I've never seen you without a concealer.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Yes I do.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
I do always have it. I don't always swear one,
but when I'm with you, I always have it on.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yeah all right?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah for the video.

Speaker 8 (03:41):
If I only have five minutes and one product that
I can use, I'll be using the Flawless Filter or
any flawless filter jube. I just find that it gives
my skin this nice shimmer, this color, and it just
makes me look alive when my skin is looking dull.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
So that's kind of in the bare minerals family of
just something that's like a little bit of a tinty glow.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Well.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Flawless Filter does not have a little bit more coverage,
just not too light. It's like in between right medium.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Would you classified as medium? You classify that as light.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
I would classify that as extremely light, like not much
if any coverage. It's more it evens your skin tone
without covering.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
Okay, So I go to product when I have five
minutes to do my makeup. This is very reliant on
the fact that I already have my brows dyed, and
I'll probably likely have some Maska residue on from the
night before. So I would go with the rose ink
camellia lip and cheek color. You can just slap it
on my lips, slaping on my cheeks and it looks
like I've got a little bit of color to me
and being brought back to life.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
This doesn't count if you've got makeup on from the
night before.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I think it does.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
She's got residue of mascara from the night before, hard
to get off.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
You get some oil, and I think.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
That you've got it all off, and then the next
morning you go, wholl I didn't do a very good job,
did I.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
I think it counts.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
I think she's got a for you. I will face
for you for your fresh face.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Because she's popping on that little glow on her lip
and on her cheek. I love that.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
I love the technique. I think I'm so stuck on
the fact, really stuck. It is a cheat. It just
blinds outed. I was like, I can't see, I can't
see past the fact. You to take a makeup off,
but I like the chip, I like her trip. Yeah,
I do that trick, but then I also have eyelash extensions,

(05:28):
so maybe I should just shut up.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Okay, coming up after the break, what are in our
makeup bags for five minute makeup and how would we
do them? I do not believe that you, Sarah Marie,
can do your makeup in five minutes, So we are
both going to separately film the five minute makeup challenge.
So stay to the end of this video if you
want to see You're gonna.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Eat your words.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
You know you're going to eat your eye.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
I am gonna bring it.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Okay, good, walk me through what you're gonna do.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Okay, So this is what I'm going to do for
my five minute makeup. Let me. I've got my product
list for you.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Great.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
What I have been starting with is the Bondi Sands
SBF hydrating face lotion. I use this after my skin care,
so I count this as if I don't have time
for a primer.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
You don't need a primer, you can just use this.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
It gives you the extra hydration, so no need for primer,
extra hydration and allows the powder that I'm going to
later tell you about it.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
You're putting powder on in five minutes. Yes, just wait, wait, wait,
she's going to do a full glam. I promise you
it's not I promise. Okay, I think I promise you
it's not.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Okay, and it is actually, I mean, I'm not trying
to advertise this, but when I was making sure I
had the name and everything correct, I did find out
that it was forty percent off. At the moment, it's
like fourteen bucks at price loan. That's a steal.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Yes, I still literally.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
The price that I paid for a SMOOTHI earlier.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yes, I still don't know if it's actually like a moisturizer.
I just and I put on top of my moisturizer.
I'm like, oh, it's so great, so great way to
start the curs ass Concealer.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
I keep everything in.

Speaker 9 (07:06):
In the box because I don't even know if it's glass,
but I get so parent if it's gonna break it
or something that I keep a lot of the stuff
I really love in boxes, Like even my mac blush
is still like the top's open, but I have.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Access to it. It's inside them. I don't know why.
I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
It's just like my little little habits. It's my little
habit I've always had. I think my mum did it,
and I just stuck with me. So the Kasas Concealer,
I'm surprised I liked this because yes it's hydrating, but
it's actually a medium for me, a medium coverage. It's
not like my typical full coverage to a beauty concealers.
But if I'm doing a five minute makeup those concealers

(07:42):
sometimes it's too much coverage to blend and make the
skin look like it's just naturally flawless. So the Kasas
Concealer really lovely, nice radiant finish. I put that under
the eyes here in the inner corners. I put it
on the outer corner here, lifting up, and then I
put it just here on the nose.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Is like Marionetteline Maria Netlines.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Here. Follow that with the translucent.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Powder, so you're just putting the powder on those few
little are.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yes with a like a little brush, just just on
those areas there.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
I'm gonna have to do a separate video where I
try to follow this method because I feel like it
would not work them.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
I promise you once you get it down a pack.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
I'm going to try. I don't think it's gonna work.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
I so think it's gonna work.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Just put like a little powder, but the rest of
my face is.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Bare, No, because then you're gonna get a nude by
nature mineral like foundation powder. It melts into your face.
So when you buffet on, it goes from a powder
and it like melts actually into like a light to
medium kind of foundation.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Oh with a glow for a powder powder is actually
brilliant at getting something done quickly.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yes, But I have to say I do find it
best to use the brush that they sell with it.
It's the only one I use, like, not my regular power.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
If they formulated a brush, yeah, which designed it to
go with a specific formula, that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
So yeah, you don't necessarily have to use the translucent
powder before this.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
I just personally find that through.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
The day it wears better.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Yeah, it wears so much better to use something that's
just lightweight on those areas and then get this not
in a very dark color, just literally whatever is matching
your face shade and just blend that around your cheeks,
your face, your nose, and it gives you a really
lovely coverage. And then I get the benefit. This is
a little new one that I've discovered.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
Is that the one with the three ps.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Yeah, so because I found whenever I was trying to
do the five minute makeup a brow still hat. Yeah,
my brows took up most of the time. And then
what you do is you just draw the hairs onto
your brows, so don't expect to be like reshaping your
brows completely, and it's them in filling them in a

(09:55):
lovely natural finish enough for this look. Yeah, then I
finish it off. If you have time, you can use
a blush and a bronzer, but just in case, the
Huler Bronza they have so many colors in that. Just
use a bit of bronzer around the side of the face.
This is the mac So natural blush, and I like

(10:17):
that on the top if I have extra time. And
then I put a little bit of both of those
on my eyelids and then I get this all right.
This lip plumpet is not for the fainter part. The
reason why it's good when you've got no makeup.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
It tingles so much. It makes to as well.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
It's a brim blood, but it brings blood.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
It naturally pink actually makes her lips red because it's
like swelling.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
It's the two faced lip injection extreme.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
I did not realize how extreme it was until one
day I was doing this quick five minute makeup and
it was the first time I had used it on
top of my lips without any lip liner or lipstick,
and even with a lipliner and.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
A lipstick, I feel it.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
I was like, oh my god, I feel this to
my jaw and then my lips were like this lovely
pinky red color, and.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
I was like, oh, that's actually really good.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
When I'm trying to just be quick, can not stress
too much, and I have eyelash extensions, so I don't
necessarily always use mascara for this.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
I don't do misca if I'm doing a five minute face.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
It depends on your eye shape and your preferences. I
actually quite like and no mascara look every now and
then because I think it's very fresh and it makes
you look it's very fresh.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Yeah, and if you if I really really want need
to use a mascara, I'll probably just use it mainly
on the outer corners and just just to quickly on
the top. I do not even use it at the bottom.
I promise you this is five minutes. It's just because
we've done them back and forth. Fifteen minutes later.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Yeah, five minutes later.

Speaker 9 (11:47):
I was wrong, it's gonna be five minutes. I okay,
all right, my turn, your turn.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
I want to see I am so curious about your
five minute You were so cocky.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
I'm cocky.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
But also, my look is going to be a lot
less makeup than yours, so you wouldn't like mine. I
don't think you'd be like, oh, it looks like you've
got nothing on. Do you know what I mean? Okay, Well,
for me, it's just about looking fresh enough to run
into your in public type vibe.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
You know.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Okay, I need a console for that.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Well.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Funnily enough, mine actually does include a content.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Oh nice. Okay.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
So about eight years.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Ago I did a three minute makeup face video, so
three minutes, not five minutes, and it went so viral
good because I think I've had proper time stamps in it,
and people were like, how that's insane. Anyway, I tried
to find it because I was like, I wonder if
I would do the same thing now and even use
some of the same products, But I couldn't locate it.

(12:42):
I reckon, it will probably be the same though, because
I've always sort of had that super quick face up
my sleeve.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Five minutes is a whole different ballgame to three.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
It's like luxurious, like I've got extra two minutes.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
So what I would do, I'm the same as you.
I just considered that all my skincare was done. Yes,
I would apply the cheat cheese see sea cream or
the ordinary skin tint with a brush all over my face.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Oh that's that chea cheese. One's nice.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
Yeah, dese coverage covers everything really easy to blend.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
That's one minute.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
I would apply the Bobby Brown correct a stick under
my eyes, just that as concealer in that really dark area.
Thirty seconds. I'd just blend it with my finger or
the same brush. It would not take any time at all.
It's a peach undertone. Salt just brightens that under our area.
Then I would fill in my brows and brush them upwards,
probably with benefit, but honestly, anything that I would find

(13:38):
that's about a minute. The Westman atterly air contostick. It
has to be the Westman atterly air contouistick because on
the cheekbones and then on the side of my nose.
That's the easiest to blend. It's the quickest, best formula,
really expensive. But if I'm doing a five minute face,
I need it to be fast. That's a minute any
stick blush once again, it just to stick so I

(14:00):
can apply it straight to the face and I don't
have to worry about mess getting everywhere. Blend upwards into
the temple thirty seconds. Then I do a lipliner and
a tinted oil woman.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
I really like that fresh.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
But then it doesn't last. There's it.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
I've got very dry skin, so it does, okay, okay,
So for me to.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Be like, oh, I don't like when makeup moves too much,
Like even if like once something starts to move on
my face and I'm not oily, but like when something
starts to move, it irritates me, and then.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
I kind of like a little bit of power, even
if it take a light translucent sometimes.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
Like when I do a five minute face, though I'm
not thinking of it to ever last the whole day,
if that makes sense. It's only to last a short
period of time when I'm about to run and I
don't want to run into anyone looking like.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Okay, yeah, that's fair enough.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
After the break, we are going to give a few
more tips of how we would lever lit up. So
say we as both of us tend to do well,
actually me more so. You drive somewhere, you only had
five minutes to get ready, but then, oh, actually I've
got an extra five to ten minutes. What are we
going to do to level up our look? I think
you can change your whole makeup looking great. It's all right,

(15:13):
you go first. How are you leveling things up?

Speaker 2 (15:15):
I would bring my eye shadow palette with me. I
would bring my lips, my lip liner, my lipstick with me.
I would bring my bronzer and my blush, and my
concealer and my powder. For me, the big one is
going to be your eyes. So if you can add
a bit of extra eyeshadow and a bit of extra
eyeliner to go from a natural everyday look to having

(15:36):
a bit more of a stronger eye. Keep in mind
I haven't done the concealer how I normally would, So
you can layer your concealer on here.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
If I do it how I normally do, there's.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
No way after I like, if you've baked in concila,
you can't put concilla on top of that and then
like you'd have to take off your whole base. So
keep in mind the way I've done my five minute
makeup that actually allows me to layer on more conceala
and powder without it interfering. So a bit of eye shadow,
a bit of liner, smudge that through. I'm not worried

(16:06):
about sharp lines here. I want it to kind of.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
Be lifted and smoldery lived in.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yes, right, gonna get the concealer, apply that under my
eyes and down the center of my face. Get my
beauty blender, blend that all in. Set that with powder,
my translucent powder. Get my bronzer. I'm gonna add like
an evening amount of contour bronzer. Put it on my eyes,
put it on my nose, underneath my drawer line, and

(16:32):
blush and your mascara, and you'll like put your lips
on properly like a lipstick, and you literally go from
like a five minute makeup to an evening makeup and
it lasts longer.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Question.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
Yes, I've seen you apply your lipstick like a proper
lip It takes you a solid five minutes just to
apply lip.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Oh, how are we fitting all of this in.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
If I'm in a rush, okay, I have that bad
boy downpack, okay, But like I can.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Change my whole look in ten minutes.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
That's why I never understood that video that went around
about the girl that was bagging out her makeup artist
on her wedding day and taking off her makeup. And
I was like, what a waste of time, because if
you told her she could fix it, Yeah, she could
layer your makeup and change the whosrofessional minutes, Like you
can actually give yourself whole thing for yeah, rage bait.
You give me five to ten minutes, I will go

(17:22):
literally from I am running around going to the gym
sort of makeup, so like full glam in five to
ten minutes, just.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
A glam you do real well, Oh thank you. I
would use also the hul of bronzer. I would use
that in my crease. So if I've got the additional
five to ten minutes, I'm going to use the bronze
in my crease just to give my eye socket a
little bit of definition. And then I would use like
just a little shimmer, whether in a palette or single

(17:50):
pan like this one. I would just use my finger
to press it onto my lid. Love that that would
be a minute to do those two things. Then I
would curl my lashes and apply my scara. And you've
got great lashes for that too, I do, which helps
because that would then only take a minute. Then I
would pop more conceal on any area where I needed
a bit more coverage a minute. I would set my

(18:11):
bronzer with that same so I just use that powder
and also blush, so that would be the minute. And
then i'd use a highlight because I love a highlight. Yeah,
also a minute. Oh and if I've got that extra
thirty seconds, a bit of browjeel so they don't fly
all over the place. I love that you can so
completely change your look. Elevated completely different.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
The amount of times I had to go from like
working day thing to like evening.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Or rehab that jig up someone's really quickly up tidle makeup.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
They used to always book me to come in do
their ceremony and then book me to come in before
they walk in for the reception, and so I would
have to freshen them up, read you things make it
more evening. And I had, like, you know, I could
spend five to ten minutes on the bride, you know,
and change her whole look and then quickly touch up
all the bridesmaids.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
So yeah, becaing fast as a makeup artist is one
of the biggest skills because a lot of people can
be good at makeup, not many people can be fast.
