Mamma Mia acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters
that this podcast is recorded on.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Makeup is My Therapy.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm obsessed and I don't even feel guilty about it.

Hello and welcome to you Beauty. This is the podcast
for your Face. I'm Kelleyen mccaren.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
And I'm Lee Campbell and if I do say so myself,
today's episode is pretty amazing. It's pretty spacih We've got
two amazing questions and one of them is perfectly timed
because we have got some news. You beauty is having
a bit of a.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Glower, a tweakment, if you will, even maybe a facelift,
so we christ you know.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, No, we're not doing for Chris, just a it's
kind of like an explant, yes, yes, or like the
non surgical kind yes. So you guys probably have no
idea what we're talking about when we're going to get
into it soon. But on Mondays we answer your questions.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
I couldn't help but.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Wonder ask me anything. Hello and welcome to Q and A.
So ubi's send us your questions via Instagram, via our
own DMS the Facebook group, you can email us.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
You beauty atmmamea dot com dot are you? And guess what, Lee,
I've got some beauty news, well personal beauty news, if
you will.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
That you look beautiful and I love your very Chloe
esque care.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Thank you, But no, I guess it's beauty Adjason. So,
what is one thing that I always say about my legs?

Speaker 2 (01:35):
That you have to tan them and that they're hairy
and ugly?

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Okay I may have said hairy once.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
No, but you also said you always tend them when
you like I'm wearing something sort I.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Don't like my legs, and I've talked about it the
entire time, which is fine, totally fine. But the reason
I don't like my legs is because I've got these
really bulbous baricos veins on this.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
See I have a lot of spider veins, not varicos.
Now you're doing it.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I this afteroon have a consultation with the doctor, a
special vein doctor.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Aren't you proud? Yes, it's gonna involve needles. I know
I've watched the video.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Don't tell me. I'm just going to tell them. I
don't want to know. But it's something that I've winged
about for so long, and I'm the sort of person
where it irritates you and other people do that, and
you know when I do what you like whinge about
things like if you're winging about your job too much, quit,
don't just consistently whinge about something. If you're not planning
on doing something. I have finally put in an action

(02:31):
plan to get something.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
I actually often get questions about veins are the spider
veins of Varico. So we'll answer a question about that. Yes,
later in a few a month or a week, or
whenever you've got more.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
I can answer all the questions about it too.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
There you go. But today we're not answering that question.
What are we answering?

Speaker 1 (02:46):
No, So later in the episode, as we already alluded to,
we've got some announcements coming that sort of intertwined with
a really good question. But first, something that we can
all relate to and that I think we're all going
to be putting into action this weekend.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Oh my gosh, I okay read the question because I
got so excited I couldn't even finish my answer.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
So Fleur has sent us a DM Hi. Girls, it's
freezing and I'm high eating indoors. So I want to
turn my bathroom into a spa sanctuary. What are your
go to products for a proper winter pampering night. I'm
talking face masks, body scrubs, hair treatments, the whole shebang.
Bonus points if they smell amazing and make me feel
like I'm at a fancy resort. Can I go first, please? Dokay,

(03:27):
so flor I don't know how much I'll have to
offer up afterwards.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I need to know if you have a bath, because
this is.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
It definitely would make a difference in terms of what
we suggest here. However, we're going to give you options
for both. So full disclosures that I have a bath
every night. It's my wash off them all day. Get
into mum mode, home mode, but with ADHD. I get in,
I stay for two seconds, I get out. My husband
has a bath maybe once every three month. You don't
like play on your phone or watch TV in they're.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Not watch TV? Yeah plan, Actually I listened to a
podcast because then with my hands are in the water,
I don't like scrolling on my phone because I'm so clumsy,
I'll drop it. Okay, Yeah, anyway, my husband wants every
three months ago, i'mouna have a bath and it's my
son and my favorite thing. We go, okay, dan't you
just wait wait wait, and we go and set up
the bathroom for him. So I've got that but on
steroids for you. Okay, you're getting yourself a fluffy Terry
toweling robe. I want it to be Terry tweling because

(04:15):
it can get wet. You know those microfiber ones that
are more like a grape, Yeah, they go funny when
you get back. You want to Terry toweling on. I've
got recommendations for everything, and I'm actually going to copy
myself and do all this cotton On Body does a
really great one. It's called the lux Terry Robe. It
comes in really cool stripes. At the time of recording,
it's down from ninety dollars to forty. But just get
a Terry toweling robe.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Okay, you can probably go to k Marten.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Oh, I've got kmarte recommendations for you. Terry twling headband.
I just like that for what I'm doing my face stuff.
Big w has like a sporty one that's quite boring,
but I liked it because it's plain black, so old.
Look at my links. It's just called the Resilience headband.
You can get in black or whites five dollars because
I've got dark hair and you're gonna get oil and
mask and shit all over it. So still all your
hotel slippers from the Hope, well take them. They're free,

(04:59):
or you can buy them online. Because you don't want
to use your nice fluffy slippers because they could get
a bit yucky.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
So I don't own one pair of slippers. What I
don't like my foot being in something that is in
a sock.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
That's oo. I can't walk around sock still slipper. But
I've got the open toe ones because they get too hot.
Then you're gonna get yourself a waterproof speaker because you're
gonna put on some music. You're put in your phone
on flight mode. Oh okay, oh yes, we're in a
real life spa. The one I bought yesterday in my
research is from Amazon. It's called the Toeso Portable Blue
Hooo Speakers with adjustable bar bar, Mini Bluetooth shower Speaker.

(05:34):
It's fifty dollars and it's got a little hook and
you literally put it in the shower, just put it
anywhere that's gonna get steamy, but you can listen to it.
Then flight bade, please choose your music. Of course I'm
a baby bitch, so I do any but make yourself
a SPA playlist, yes, or just.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Look up one on Spotify. You'll find one. You don't
have to make it yourself.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Then candles, You can have real candles, which I do.
Just make sure you get real soy wax candles because
the non ones, like the more affordable ones, you get
that black smoke and you don't want to be locked
in a bathroom with I.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Don't think that's probably very good for your lungs either.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
No, it's not all electronic candles. I've just got a
lot of those little electronic ely Yes.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
I just don't get the vibe, like there is no
vibe with an It's good for decoration at an event,
but what's the purpose of an elect one.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
My bath has like a weird rim that's quite slim.
I do have one real one, but then I put
these all along in case it falls in, and like
I mean, I guess it would go out.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, it's anty all out. I feel like you'd be
more likely to get electric cued. Buy your electric one
if it fell in, you.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Can't come to my spar And then this micro fiber
face cloth because we don't want to use a regular
face washer because it's too rough, so just microfiber cheap
from came up. All right, Before we get wet bath shower,
we're gonna put a foot mask on. So I recommended
the Endoda one ages ago, but this one I'm recommending.
It's got heaps of great reviews. It's from Mekrets called
the Patrology Posh Peel PETTYQR one treatment. So they're like

(06:53):
a little sock. So we're putting that on our feet.
Then we're putting our slippers on because you don't want
to walk around in a plastic bag on your floor
because you're gonna slip. Cute and I'm having the best
time already. Then we're gonna double cleanse. So firstly we're
gonna use like a balm cleanser or an oil clans
and we're gonna use a guager just massage massage, massage.

(07:14):
Sometimes they sit down on the floor to do that
because I hate standing up. It's going to take us
take a seat.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
This is going to be I get comfy.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Then we're going to rinse that off with warm water
in our macro fiber. Then we're gonna do a second cleans,
just to milk cleans or cream cleans on whatever, so
our face is fresh. Now this is where I would
get in the bath, dear lord, this is the mask's on.
I've taken my feet off.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
By the way, you're not sitting in the bath with
your hoofs out.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
You could, And I can't tell you any more about
the bath because it's gonna come up in my host tack.
Oh okay, but if you don't have a bath, you're
gonna have a shower. So we're gonna turn the shower on.
But make it that Oh she did want hair masks.
I'm not doing hair today. Sorry, you can't. There's no
hair on my spar shower steamers shower. Really cool, Okay.
So I stated a fancy hotel a year or two ago,

(07:56):
and there was this little pack with these toottle things
are like what were they? They like they look like
a little like dishwashing nod and you put them down
where the water would hit and then they steam and
hydrate and make it smell amazing.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Gosh, they're so cool.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
So they were the hotel, old fancy brand. But since
then I've found so many brands through them and Dota
Shower Stories, a website, eleanor Bath and Body, even Vix
like fixed vapor up does if you stick you put
it down in the shower, and the steam just fragrance
de blah blah blah. This is where I run out
of steam. I forgot to write more. Then I'm getting
out and while my skin is still damn, I'm going
to drench myself in hydration and I'm gonna mix a

(08:30):
body oil with a body cream while I'm dripping wet.
Oh yes, And then I'm just gonna put on Hi
skincare because I'm bored by now.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
And what pajamas. Surely you've got some nice of pajamas.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
I would probably put on like my like quantus pajamas
or like a cotton pajama because I'm gonna be so
stuck here.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah. Oh, I would never wear like. I don't really
wear satin all. I wear it for the vibe sometimes,
but then I take that.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
In pajamas because they're Hamilton, but they're so synthetic that
I sweat my bad.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
What does Hamilton mean?

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Alexander has okay, welcome to my spa. How's yours? What's
going on?

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Do you look well? So for me, when I want
to do an at home spa experience, it's when I
want to use my fanciest, most luxurious products because that's
how I make myself feel really pampered. And they need
to be quite luxe and smell beautiful, so I get
that full because I'm very sensorial when it comes to

(09:24):
how something will make me feel. So I would apply
a cleansing bumb but then actually wear it as a mask.
So my fave is the Elemis Procollagen cleansing barm. It
is just absolute heaven. There's a black cherry addition, which
I just think, yom. I love like that exactly and
imagine like the black cherry for relaxing, so yummy. So

(09:48):
what I would do, I would put like a nice
thick layer of that on and then before I'm getting
into my bath or shower. So if you have a bath,
the Loxetan bath foams are my favorite for like your
luxury bath. If you don't like lavender, obviously, I always
talk about the lavender one, but they also have the Verbina.
They have the shay, which is more verbina is more
lemone and fresh, and then shay is just very clean smelling. No,

(10:13):
there's no coconut, it's just clean, nutty shame shade butter
just clean. So that would just like you still get
all the bubbles. But if you're not a fan of lavender,
they're your options. Otherwise, if you only have the shower,
the alm and shower oil is so luxurious and it
will still bring the sensorial vibes.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Time I change our body wash, my husband's.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Like, where's the almond oils?

Speaker 2 (10:32):
And I'm like, babe, do you know how much that is?
You go by it, you go buy it.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
So for how I did bring hair?

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Oh good, I thought. So.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
I always will use a clarifying shampoo or a scout
scrub pror so that your hair is as fresh as possible.
Sometimes I forget how well those things work in terms
of just having really soft, clean hair. There's something that
if you use a normal shampoo on half your head
and then a clarifying shampoo on the other half, you

(11:00):
would be like, oh, there is a difference. You don't
want to use them too often because it will strip
your natural oils and your color.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
But we're doing our everything exactly.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
And then I really love the Vaga more hydromask for
both the smell. It is so beautiful that you will
like smell and then go, I want that as a
fragrance mist. It's just so pretty. I'm just so relaxed,
and it's also very nourishing. For body scrubs. That's quite
hard because well, I wouldn't use it in the bath
because that's a waste. So this is only why you're

(11:29):
showering and your skin is wet, you move out of
the water. And then the Epsom scrub is actually really
affordable and amazing. I was trying Epsen. You just get
it from the supermarket or the price times sixteen bucks. Ye,
really really nice and effective. You want like it's gritty,
so it's going to get in there. And then, as
Lee said, after I get out of the bath, I

(11:50):
would use my favorite beautiful smelling body moisturizer. I'd mix
it with that almond oil that I always talk about
from I Herb.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
I just restop.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
It's got no smell, but it just makes everything really slippy,
and it'll make everything work harder and much more nourishing.
And yeah, whatever your I really struggle to put a
list together of favorite body lotions because everyone's tastes are
so different. So without knowing what she sort of likes,
you know, does she like something more Godmond.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Or something else? Are we doing this at night and
going to bed and you won't really thick? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (12:24):
So whatever your favorite body product is, that's what I'm dancin. Yeah,
but not west Oh, I'm soaking well now, I don't
like that feeling. It grosses me out a little bit.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
And yeah that's what about your face when you get out?
Just your skin care?

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Just my skin care.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah, I'm so relaxed after us spot.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
I know, but pop up because after the break we've
got a chat about what's up coming for you beauty.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
What's up? Dog? So kel I'm going to read the
question Okay, Kimberly sent me a message, so it says, Lee,
thank you to both you and Kelly for being the
best beauty mums to us ubies. I love the Blooper
videos and watching you on the show. Can you tell
us more about doing the podcast? How do you pick

(13:08):
the question? How do you decide which products to test
out and talk about on the Spendy Savy shows? Do
you edit the show and listen to it before are
you friends in real life? Basically give us.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
All the behind the scenes goss Sale's got like all
of these points, and then my notes just say, nah,
can't stand the mall.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Can't stand them all. Long story short, because a lot
of you would have been here for a long time.
I started at Mama Mea as executive editor, so I
was kind of looking after editorial. I was never going
to do podcasts. I'd never listened to a podcast when
I started me it was like, which is your favorite podcast?
And I was like the one you're on?

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Did that that one?

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Yeah? I didn't understand them. I was like, where's the screen?
I'm such a boomer. A few weeks in because my
background I was beauty director at Cosmopolitan Me. I had
just noticed as I made friends that stop by my desk,
come to the kitchen and be like, hey, I've got
this breakout, or well, what's your favorite factan and Me
was like, women just want to talk about beauty. Let's
do a beauty podcast. And I was like, okay, Lady
bing bang bong. She went to an event she met

(14:06):
someone called Kelly McCarron and she said, I found you
a co host because we were trying to I'm a
co host. So Kelly came into the office like a
wrecking ball. I came in like, because you were so excited, I'm.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
A little bit intense and obnoxious when you don't know me.
Now you're one of my best Yeah, but like when
you if someone doesn't know me and I'm excited, it's
very intense, like to meet me. Yes, And I'm aware
of that.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
And so Maya, you know, brought her in and she
was like, do you know why she's actually perfect because
she's the opposite of you in that she's the beauty. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
I don't think Mia realized that I did have a
lot of that beauty background, but it just worked anyway.
I was happy to play the oh and what does
this do? Knowing exactly what it did. But Alie's knowledge
was like, you know, you're one of the most esteemed
beauty journalists in Australia.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
So no, anyway, okay. So it started two shows a week.
It was Q and A, which you're listening to, and
then Spendy Savie and then it was just so wildly
popular that me said, let's make it a daily show
and again I was like, you're a mad woman. So
five days a week. That's been seven years, right, I've
gone on Matt, We've had co hosts, You've gone on
Matt Lee. Took one second, that was and the show's

(15:15):
just evolved through lots of different things, which brings us
to our announcement.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
And no, by the way, we don't edit the show,
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
No, we have wonderful video producers, audio producers, scripts, everything.
Kelley and I just turn up and talk shit and
bring in all our pro we prepare. But yes, of course,
yes we don't do the heavy lifting. And no we
don't hear it before it goes live. How we pick
the products genuinely what we like, no kind of influence
over advertisers or.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
It's actually quite We get really like, oh, if ever,
there's an advertiser that comes on not ever after, and
we talked because we're like, oh, they're going to think
that wasn't genuine, but it was actually just that it
happened to be at the same time.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Yeah, we have no really overview about who's advertising, and
we record the ads that you listen to completely separately
that we don't know, and that's kind of intentional so
that there's no you know, conflicts or favoritism or whatever,
so we just talk about shit you love.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
So what's happening now, Well, because the land of podcasting
is so ever changing, we are going bod first, which
is video first.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
But not only are we visual first, We've changing the format.
We're mixing things up because we like to, you know,
freshen things up every year or two. So Mondays, Tuesdays
and Fridays are staying just as they are, except better,
quite better, even more beauty content. So there's going to
be extra hacks, extra tips, extra tricks. You're gonna get
some tutorials, new products. It's just going to be fabulous.

(16:35):
So we're evolving Wednesdays, so you're still gonna have the
wonderful Sarah Marie. She's heading over to YouTube exclusively for
this show for the Wednesdays, and because she's an incredible
long time makeup artist, it's going to be called Lucky
Dip where she'll showcase new and unusual products plus tips
and tricks to help you know, make your face fabulous.
So that's a new kind of offering. And of course,

(16:57):
because I am your lifestyle gal, I'm your lifestyle Girl.
I also host Momammy is fashion podcast. I Thing to
Wear and Nothing to Wear on New Beauty are kind
of under what's called the lifestyle umbrella. And oftentimes if
you like make up, you're like clothes or you know,
they's all I ever.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Met anyone that didn't, that liked one of them and
then didn't like the other.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Bah, It's all about getting ready. So Thursdays is where
you'll get to listen to a fabulous episode of Nothing
to Wear that will be dropped in the U Beauty Feed.
So basically you're still getting lots and lots of fabulous content,
just mixing it up where you see it, where you listen,
what you're listening to, but all the links are going
to be in the show notes of every episode, so
you can go to YouTube and watch and just work out.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Where we are and what we're doing and how best
you want to consume the podcast.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yes, and if you just want to keep listening while
you're cleaning or driving, Hello, where on your ears exactly?

Speaker 1 (17:40):
So that was fun up next to our beauty Bite
of the week. What's that You'll have to find out
after the break, So, as we chatted about earlier in
the episode, we're mixing things up and we're replacing the
host tag section to a broader category of beauty bite.
And that's really to open up this section a little
bit more so that I don't come in and go, hey, everyone,

(18:02):
go buy some bobby pins because I got the whole
sack for the week. Yeah, so all of your favorite
parts of the episodes that we're no longer doing. Plus,
like you know, Lee's got a hack this week, So
it could be that we explain a trend or tell
you about a fun sale or how to use a
new product. So we might reach into our bags and
show you something that we can't wait to share on Friday.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
So the segment will just be a lot more fun
and easier for us too, because there is only so
many ways that Lee can just be at home being
a chemist.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Yeah. So whatever you want to call, it's just going
to be a fun little tidbit beauty buy News hacked
a bite of beauty exactly? Would you like me to
go first? Please? Do? As I alluded to, its bath related.
So I love my bath and I love having a bath, sokit.
I normally buy you know, EPs and salts like with
essential oil and all that jazz. It's quite extensive. I
want into Amazon, and I bought a five kilo bag

(18:51):
of unflavored magnesium EPs and salts. It looks like a
giant bag of kitty litter. Oh thirty nine ninety five
for the five kilo bag. Then my situation is quite unique.
But you can do the same at home. So I
have a beauty brand called Brillo Beauty, and we have
a beautiful body oil that's you know, to put on.
I used to often put a squirt in the bar
anyway or put on your body. And we've got a

(19:12):
few leaky tubs. Every kind of shipments like a shitment.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Literally, if there's a few leakies, it's literally a.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Shipment, yes, and so they've got to go somewhere. I'm
not wasting them. So I got a beautiful product, oh honestly,
and I put it in the bath anyway, because then
you don't need to moisturize. So I got my old
Makona jars, my plain old cheap magnesium skirt skirt skirt
or the Brillow body oil, and I've made my own
little epsom essential oil soaky bath things you don't need

(19:38):
to have leftover Brillow Beauty because it's quite extensive and
very good. But I'm going to recommend quickly some oils
that you could use it for because it's so much
cheaper if you do this yourself and then you really
enjoy the scent of what if you put in there. Yeah,
So like you can get Natio Australia. They have some
beautiful different flavors and you can just use a little bit. Also,
you can customize how much oil versus how much soak

(19:59):
you want. There's a bunch on Amazon. Mutu Gena has
a beautiful body oil. So costfo wear Kelly Math. If
you work out, like put a few scoops. It's so
much cheaper. Could even do this as a little gift
for like Mother's Day or something, or just do it
for yourself. That's I do it for yourself anyway.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
I love that mine because we opened it up as
a beauty bite is a PSA.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
And I bought in chow and tell yes, oh my god,
I'm so obsessed.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Thanks to nature.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Now do minish look so cute? So thanks to nature,
It's like skincare and hair carrying coals, a.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Body care coals and woolies so affordable. Everything's like under
twenty bars.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
And it's really really four oars in there, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
So the shower oil is like a lot of people
say that it's a dupe for them in showel oil.
I don't think they meant to do that, but it's
just it's just so good. It's really really lovely. They've
got their hair perfume. We've got shampoos and conditioners, heat protectant, Elixa.
If you're going away, go and grab some little minis
or if you wanted to try something from Thanks to Nature.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Yeah, petition for more affordable brands and sleepermucket rands to
do minis. I hate it's mostly Macran, more minies, more minis,
more minis, more mini.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
I think people just assume that you don't like things
that if they're more affordable, But it's like, no, I
still want to try them, or I still want to
take them overseasret.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
My decanting days are going to be overseen exactly, So
thank you for listening. Or if you've just taken all
those notes and jumped on the television on.
