Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to a MoMA Mia podcast. Mama Mia acknowledges
the traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast
is recorded on Makeup is My Therapy.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm obsessed and I don't even feel guilty about it. Hello,
and welcome to you Beauty, the daily podcast for your Face.
I'm Ceremony Fada, and today we are diving into all
things body care and hair with Kelly McCarran. We're talking products, techniques,
and all the secrets to how Kelly gets her signature

(00:42):
below and keeps her locks lush.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
As Slushious locks is a little bit ambitious, but you know,
I'll take it. I had to find the liner in
my bag. I have brought with me three of my
favorite body care products and three of my favorite hair products.
And some of them are kind of like everyone knows,
like duh, but some of them are like what really?

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, you've brought the random products.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
I did that in particular, I reckon, You're just gonna
be like, what is that product?

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Okay, well I need to see.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
So I'm going to kick things off with the random
weird products.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Oh have you heard of this? I wanted to try
this so hard. I've seen the real where the shield
the blonde hair Yeah, darkades.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
So it is the Boulderfly Enhance hairline powder. You might
have seen an ad for it. Because we both saw
the ad for it. I got sucked in and I
was like, I must try that lessen. The ad does
make it look a little bit more spectacular than what
it is, but I'm going to show you in real
time how it works. Was so cool. So you get
it from Amazon. It's really hard to get in light blonde.

(01:47):
You can easily get like the browner shades. The browns
are always available, but the light blonde shades are really hard.
But you can also get red. Every single hair shade
is available. And the idea is that it's just like
going to cover either your grays or your roots. So
it's a root touch up product.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
But it comes in a little container and on the
bottom it's got like this little powder path and on
the top is the product and then a little mirror.
But the mirror is tiny. Now, if you are listening
to this, I have got about an inch of regrowth
and it's quite dark.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Okay, So it lightens.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
It, it lightens it.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
It is covered.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
It is not like the ad like I said, it's
not like the ad ad all, but it lightens it,
so it just makes it less aggressive. So I'm just
I love it so much because and you can obviously
like make it lighter, like you can keep going in
and like add more product on. But I just really
hate some people like the regrowth.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Look.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
I don't like it. I find it very harsh and
quite aggressive. So I just really love that it lightens
it a little bit, just so my regrowth doesn't look
as dark in the ads. It makes it look like
it covers the regrowth.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, Like it's like a streak. Like if you picture
like Storm from X Men, do you remember.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
She's got those streaks.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
So that's the way it looked like in the ad,
like she did a line. But I can totally see.
So if you're going to style your hair or go out,
it softens it up.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
It softens it so someone isn't like, dear Lord, that
leading need to get her roots done.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
It's more like it blends.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
It blends it are, so it just softens everything.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
It actually really does because you've got the warmth in between,
You've got like kind of the three shade.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Well, you've got yours astake. Let's not draw attention to that.
That was because I've decided to do blonde become.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
It's gonna sound so bitchy if I was about me.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
That's an orange in between. We don't talk about that.
My hairdresser asked me not to ever repeat that instance
again where I just like was unhinged on and Shuesday
and thought, I'm going to do my roots.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
You did your own roots and you're blonde.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
I thought it was smart to be fair. I mean, honestly,
the hairdressers and my comments that were just like acting
as if I'd performed open heart surgery on myself. It
is just hair, but I am still suffering from the
consequences of it.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yes. Have you seen those videos where people try they like,
bleach their own roots and then it burns the hair off. Yeah, well,
and it literally has pieces like it's melted the pieces off.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
You have to leave it on longer than the packet
says for it to bleach, but you also can't because
then your hair falls off.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
That's why you trust a hair because they are looking
for it turning and then turning into jelly and lamp
So don't Yeah, yeah, not recommended. So my next product,
it needs to be talked about it. It is the
diceon air ap.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Oh, we are both Dyson and Dip.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
You're their air straight and I'm their air wrap.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
How do you not bring your air rap?

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Well?

Speaker 1 (04:28):
I just couldn't be bothered. It's very bulky, eight hundred
and fifty dollars, so expensive. I put off getting one
for years. It is the best money you can spend
on your hair if you have troublesome texture, texture that
you just sort of have problems with taming.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
How would you use the diceon air rap? Because my
sister's got it and she loves hers, and I love
the way it looks on her because it does look
like a blow dry, like the brush blow dry kind
of thing. But I've only ever used it on my fringe,
and I just couldn't picture using it on my whole
head because I got so much long hair.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
It doesn't take as long as you think. I thought
exactly the same thing. And I also it's just comes
down to practice, and not that much practice. Like that
sounds really hard work, but you just sit down a
couple of times, give it a go, learn the risk
techniques and that sort of thing. It's like second nature.
I love using mine. I use mine nine hour ten times.
I wash my hair, I use the air wrap afterwards.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Okay, especially with it being such an investment, you kind
of like want to make sure it's right for you.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Oh it is so good. Well then I ended up.
Actually they did send to me one after that, so
I've popped it aside because it will be quite a
nice gift for someone. I have very curly hair, but
because I've bleached it, it's like fluff. So it's kind
of like Hagrid. Did you have watch Harry Potter? You
know that like fluffy?

Speaker 2 (05:42):
I watch it and repeat because my son loves so.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
You know that just fluffy, big yeah hair.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
But if you were to brush my hair now, yes,
it becomes like a maine, like a fluffy the main maine.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Exactly. It's not People say, oh, you've got curls, and
I'm like no, no, no no. So if I let
it air dry naturally, not good.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, okay, it's too dry.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
There's too dry, lack of moisture, and too fluffy and
it just gets very large.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
But wait, it's so how many attachments does it come?
What does that come with? So you it comes with
six attached.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
It comes with the Coander blow dry head, and then
there's two different brush heads for like ones for more
smoothing and ones for more straightening. Okay, so just depending
on like sort of how straight you want your hair.
Then there's like the actual blow dry brush, so it's
kind of if you wanted to do a loose sort
of blow dry. And then you've got the two air

(06:31):
wrap heads that you think of when you think of
an air rap. So they're the two curlers. So one
is a thinner barrel and one is a thinner barrel.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
See, I didn't realize it had so many attachments. You
are getting used.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
If you use them, you're to use your My sister
got one with points a couple months ago and she's
like it's the best investment because she has hair texture
like mine. So just so your hair looks like you
didn't just go through the car wash, yes, or a
wind tunnel all the time. It just is so easy
to use and it is quick, Like I can do

(07:03):
my whole head in ten minutes. That is number two.
I absolutely love my dice and air ap. My last
one with the hair products is this very manky.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Well she's still got some hair in her.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Very old tangle Teaser.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
She's still got hair in there.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
This brush is disgusting. I should probably throw it out
and invest in new one. They're thirty dollars full price.
This is just the wet brush, and I use it
every single day, multiple times a day. I have got
quite a few brushes that I'm huge fans of, but
this one I've had for six or seven years. Yeah,
and I absolutely flog it and none of the little

(07:40):
things have ever come out. I just clean it every
couple of months. You can use it when your hair
is wet, which is very important for someone with my
hair texture, and it's not going to damage your hair.
So that is number three because it's just my most
used hair brush.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Can I just say I actually love tangle Teaser. Oh,
they're so good. I have their wet brush, not this
wet brush. I don't know if they still have it.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
It was like the round one.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Yeah, it's like a cylinder type of one where the
water can just go through, so you're not going to
get the mold, so water can get trapped in the brush,
and till this day it doesn't get mold. I have
had it for longer than seven years, right, like you said,
the bristles haven't.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Gone, and they don't like. It doesn't hurt, It doesn't
hurtrush the knottiest hair and it does not hurt.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
I brush my kid's hair in the bathroom there, and
my eldest son has the most sensitive scalp. I am
so tender headed as well. He gets it from his mama.
And my hair's really curly. So you got to brush
it in the shower when you've got the condition that.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yes, otherwise it would be way too short.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
And then you could rinse it in the shower and
just leave it to dry. I have to say, tangle
teaser has nailed it. They used to be on Shark Tank, right, did.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
They tangled knotted hair stove hairdressers? Insane? Tangled teasers uniquely
design teeth will glide through the hair, removing knots and tangles.
That is a cause and associated with conventional tools on
the market.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
When they were like rejected. I remember if one of
them said yes to them, but the other guy was
like no, he's just like a hair brush. He didn't
understand and the need for a brush that entangled without hurting.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
It and that didn't cost three hundred dollars.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
And that didn't cost three Yeah, exactly, and now they've
got like a kid's range. Then they brought out the
wet range because it used to be just like the
one tangle teaser before. And yeah they get like heaps
of colors and yeah, yeah, yeah, they do so well
because it actually works, like it's just crazy to think
the need for it and that. Yeah, that's how I
saw them initially. They were on Shark Time.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah, great backstory, they're not right, Moving on to body. Yes,
the locks of ton Alm and Chower Oil. Okay, have
you heard about this product?

Speaker 2 (09:51):
I have not. You haven't heard about this though.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Okay, this is like a cult product in the new
beauty community. Everyone's always wanting cheap alternatives, and I'm like, listen,
you can go to Woolworst and get the thanks to
Nature arm and Chower Oil. And it's a good product
for I think it's you know, twenty dollars all fifteen
dollars compared to forty two dollars for a pretty small bottle.
But there is something about the original that cannot be

(10:17):
duped because it is just the whole experience. It's this
gold bottle and you only need a tiny amount, so
it's expensive, but you go through a bottle and then
you also buy the refillable thing, so it's better for
the environment every couple of months if that. Like, you
don't need much. And it's an oil, but it moulsifies
when you mix it with water and turns into a
milk lovely, So it is the most moisturizing and I

(10:39):
love oil, so it's really sensory for me. And the
smell is like cooking almonds but not food, and it
cleans you. It moisturizes you, and it smells beautiful and
it's just a treat. It's also a perfect but practical
gift for people.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
That's nice. And so when you use it, you using
it as a body wash? Or are you washing first?
No body wash? Oh okay, you use it as a
body wash? Yes, because I remember I love a Kardashian,
so I'm pretty sure it might have been Chloe Kardashian
or Kylie Jenner or one of them was saying that
when they're about to get out of the shower, they
put their body oil on in the shower, yes, and

(11:14):
then they get out of the shower. So it's kind
of like you wash this off. Yeah, No, I think
they might just rinset, but like they have that feel.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
You wouldn't you would wash this one off because it
does emulsify and turn into like that milky soap and
it does clean you. So it might get a bit
sticky if you just left it on it.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
It's okay, fantastic. I actually have to try this because
I have been in my head thinking about this oil
and I am so dry, like my skin. You need oil,
so like crapy, creepy dry at the moment. It's just
I need something to trap, yes, to catch and trap
the moisture you're in there and feel nice.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah. Next up is a body moisturizer userin Intensive Repair Lotion.
It's kind of hard to get. It's about thirty eight
dollars for five hundred mils. You can get it cheaper.
You get it on either I Herb or Amazon because
it's American. I follow these dermatologists and they sort of
go through their favorite products and they really debunk different
ingredient myths and those sorts of things, and they said

(12:13):
that this was their all time favorite body moisturizer. So
obviously I had to go and find it, and I've
been through several bottles. Since, and I have to say
it is out standing. It's thick. I love it.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It's thick, but not too sticky. It's not sticky thick.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Now, one of my favorite body hacks is I will
mix my body moisturizer with a body oil because I
am very dry. Okay, and that's definitely what you should
be doing if you're finding that your body is like
super dry and scaly. But I've got two different options,
So depending on what I'm doing, I will either pop

(12:49):
a cheap oil in with my moisturizer, so this is
just like a sweet almond oil. Or if I am
going out somewhere nice or I just want to feel
a little bit special, I'll use a fancy oil. So
this is the Ipsum Spa body oil, and I mix
in drops with the moisturizer for the most rich, nourished,

(13:09):
luxy experience of your life. Your skin will not get
dragon if you start doing.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Okay, I need to redo what I'm doing with my
body then seriously.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
So I'm going to put some in your hand and
then you can rub it on yourself.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Okay. Oh it smells like a beauty salon.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
It does. This is actually called their Spa Body.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
I see why you mix them.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
To sella What a.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Game changer this is, Yes, it is so noticeable. How
did you even discover that?

Speaker 1 (13:36):
I think I was probably just really lazy one day
and couldn't be bothered moisturizing then putting oil on, So
I just mixed the truth.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
What you makeup hacks.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Let's do hair.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
Do you have a tip for hair?

Speaker 2 (13:57):
I feel like as someone who's blonde, there's bound to
be blonde people out there who just feel like they
always need.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
To My biggest tip would be to buy a cheap
mask from the pharmacy, whatever's on special before you're going
on holidays, and make sure your hair is coated every
single strand before you go into the sun or the water, oh,
when you're on holidays, because otherwise your hair is like
soaking up chlorines, soaking up salt, it's getting dry from

(14:25):
the sun, and that way it's just keeping it protected.
Oh that's really really coo and it also won't go green.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Oh well, that's amazing. And do you have a body
tip or is your big one this moisturizes or an oil?

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Definitely that the only other thing that I would say
is to make sure that you're not using a loofer
or like a body brush or something that is going
to gather bacteria in the shower baths. So often those
are what people are using, but they're actually a high
for bacteria if you looked at them under a microscope.
I love a.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Loofer, oh we all do, but I never let mine
get manky. And I have this thing about letting them
air dry because I'm so paranoid about the bacteria. So
I have just been using mic'sfoliating mid thing and I
put it somewhere to dry.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
I actually don't know the science behind that, but if
you are letting them dry, especially in the sun, that
could be killing a lot of bacteria. It's just like,
it's the grossest when you're just leaving them in the
shower and they're just steamless.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
I've seen too people's homes and I see it. It
sounds so nosy. I don't mean to be nosy. I'm
going to and it's just there, yeah, And all I
can see is like you know the ones where it's
kind of like not a hand, mit, it's a mist.
You just stick your hand in there, right, and it's
like a loof of one side, kind of like a
sponge on the other and I can just see it's
like got black edges.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Like you're making you sick. And you're also like putting
that bacteria all over your skin.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
People, and it's usually that person's house where like I'm
not close enough.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
To be like, babe, what is the Just put it
in the bin and pretend you don't know what happened
to it.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yeah, you're like, just cut it up and be like
I have no idea, Like I've been makeup brushes off.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Stuffed inside the bottom of your bin.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Apart from that, I would definitely just say mixing oil
in with your body moisturizer. I'm going to be doing
that tip I have, and if you're going out, add
in a little bit of foundation, because then it would
just like uniform your skin tone and texture.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
That's lovely. Thank you so much. I mean, like your arm,
like I'm going to just be like one arm is moisturized.
Thank you so much. I love going in your bag.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
In your bag.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
It's so nice because we talk about our own stuff
to so many people, but not each other until we
get here to savor it exactly. I learned so much stuff.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
And so fun. Well, thank you so much for everyone
for listening. Len I will be back in your ears
tomorrow with Spendy saving Yes

Speaker 2 (16:36):
And thank you so much for showing us what's in
your back, Kelly, time, anytime,
