Speaker 1 (00:10):
You're listening to a MoMA Mia podcast. Mama Mia acknowledges
the traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast
is recorded on Hey you bees, it's me Lee here.
Isn't it nice that it's warming up? Well, I guess
it depends where you live. It might be very warm already.
You're still getting there. But over on Nothing to Wear,
I had my lovely friend and semi co host Licinda
(00:32):
join me again because we talked all about the new
spring trends. Swayed in spring and summer. Huh, but it's happening,
and balloon pants my personal favorite. So have a listen
and let me know what you think, particularly about the
swede thing interesting huh. Whoever said orange is the new
pink with seriously disturbed laurels for spring groundbreaking? Oh my god, you.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Have to do it. You live for fashion.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Hello and welcome to Nothing to Wear, the podcast that
solves fashion problems and levels up your wardrobe. I'm Lee Campbell,
and every week I chat to it expert who helps
us work out how to get more out of the
clothes as we already own and tells us exactly what
is and isn't worth adding to our wardrobes. Now it's
a new season. Yay, I mean, I guess, depending on
(01:18):
how you feel about the weather. It's exciting that spring
and summer are here, and by that I mean clothes.
So you'll see on your favorite websites and in your
favorite stores that there's new colors and prints and styles,
and that heralds a new season for us shopping lovers.
You don't have to go shopping because some of these
might already be in your wardrobe. And to help me
dissect what's new this season, Lacinda Pecat is joining me again.
(01:42):
It's a long season because later into spring and summer
we get into racewear, party season, New Year's and Christmas.
But we're going to have a look at the trends
we're noticing at the start of this spring to let
you know what's about to be everywhere. Liscinda, thank you
for joining me again on Nothing to Wear. I had
you visit me the other week to talk about Copenhagen
fashion and street style. But we're having a new season here.
(02:05):
It's officially spring, well in the stores anyway. We can't
speak for the weather, but spring summer has started to
drop goodbye winter. So let's talk through the trends we've
seen so far. You know, spring summers a long season.
There's going to be more to come. But I think
there's some early trends out of the gates that are
pretty easy to identify that I want to discuss and dissect. Yeah,
(02:27):
so let's bring the trends that we've noticed so far
that we're excited about or we want to dissect. I'd
like to start with one of yours. What have you
got for me?
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Okay, I've got like a tangible one that we can
talk about, and I'll mention it in a minute. But
I thought what we could even do before that is
look at that sort of cultural lens of where these
trends come from.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Please.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
That's the insights that you have that I don't that
are fascinating.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
It's one of those things like, yeah, we could say
polka dots, but yeah, cool people just sort of pulling
that out of nowhere?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Or is it?
Speaker 1 (02:57):
They always wonder because then you go, like you look
on the iconic, you go to the stores and you're like, well,
everyone got a memo? Where does this come from? Why
don't I have the early memo?
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:07):
So it starts from the bigger macro tree which are
happening globally around the world. So cultural trends that could
be a shift in value behavior belief that society's having.
That then changes how consumers shop and spend their money
and how they behave. So usually it's almost like the
Devil was Prata with Miranda Priestley. You know, it's not
(03:28):
just a blue sweater, it's brilliant.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Like it's sort of that sort of thing.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
It So it stems from these macro trends that then
trickle down. Well, you've got the macro trends that the
creative directors or these brands look at and observe. Also
with buyer feedback and what's trending, pantomic colors, everything around them,
we collate so what's been selling cyclically as well? So
usually ten years on you'd be looking to promote something fresh,
(03:54):
but it's up to the helm of the creative director
who's running that business to look at those bigger trends.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
So like, for example, let's just use some brands. For example,
so Yazaras might be looking at your really fancy runways.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, so they look at your runways and they're the
ones who are then looking at cult moments or historically
within fashion. So if something hasn't been around for ten years,
so just say swede, or when can we revive that?
Speaker 2 (04:18):
When is it relevant to bring something back?
Speaker 3 (04:21):
So the first sort of bigger trend that they might
look at is and one that I'm going to look
at now is purpose dressing or purpose purchasing. So I
find I think we spoke about this last time. We
where gen Z and millennials just aren't spending anymore. They
prefer to go on like experiences and travels.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Yeah, they're not shopping the way they used to do.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
So a lot of brands need to think about how
they're going to create that experience, and a lot of
that's evoking memory. So Swedes come back. And that's my
first one. So lot story short. It's swayed.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Oh my god, good because I love it. Swayed and swayed.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Look, it's the.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Swede and it's bringing back that nostalgic memory from Glastonbury.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Sienna Miller, Yes, that bo host swayed.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Kate Moust, didn't she have like that iconic Glastonbury photo?
Was it like a big bo host.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Wade with the fringing? Yeah, And Chloe did big ones
as well.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
We're going to be seeing it through accessories, but also
jackets as well, whether it be bomber jacket or a
utility jacket, Blarne jacket shoes as well.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
So we started seeing this in autumn winter.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I was going to say because to me, Swayed feels wintry,
but I'm very literal.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
And it's also transseasonal.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
It's one of those pieces that you can keeth and
I really encourage people to just hold onto all of
their pieces now, not be selling to get something new,
because we now know we're old enough to see things
literally do come around.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Especially if it's quality, not that you had to spend
a lot of money, but if it's an investment piece
or it's really good quality. You know, when it comes
to real swede, absolutely that's not something I'd be getting
rid of.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
So, yeah, we saw it with Coach.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
They showed it at New York and they had Emrata
wearing it head to toe trench and these long knee
high boots in Swede as.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Well, like that like classic Tanny brown Swede.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, yea that boutifar camelish color. Yeah, and we've seen
it with the row with the Margo tote was everywhere.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Saint Lauren did a really nice dad loafer so in
that shoe footwear, so.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Swayede will be everywhere.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
We're starting to see that, like you said, and we
spoke about what if it sticks, it sells, it stays.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Yes, Swede is definitely stayed, okay, even for spring summer.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Yeah, yeah, which is really unique as well.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I've seen some really beautiful like more spring style, so
like a short sleeve vest that you'd wear with like
a Bermuda short in Swayede, and it can be in
that faux as well.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, because it's quite a lightweight, like in a jacket
or something. It can be.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
It provides that warmth, but it's not like a wolf,
so it's really nice.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
It's more versatile than a wall, even if you're getting
you know, if you're getting the real thing, and it
might you know, it's animal skin, but it can be
quite thin in texture and more versatile than you say,
a wall, which is so true. Like it's warm but
not as cumbersome as some of those other traditional winter fabrics.
I've just got a pairble actually that's a lie. I
(07:08):
bought them a few months ago because I love when
some international sites there's summer stuff goes on sale and
we're about to go into it. So I bought quite
affordable pair of like a closed in cage sand or flat.
But they're like that Tanny swaye, so they're very transseasonal,
like they're a sandal but with a buckle, but they're
a swaye.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yeah, beautiful and.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
I wouldn't have worn those in winter because they're too open.
So it does go to show we can nice little
cavy singlets as well, I've seen. So it's like swed
look and minis. There's so many Swayed minnis. I never
thought of that, like a little mini skirt.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah, so it's nice and playing with the fringing as well.
But I think it's we're talking there's items as well,
but the focused hero is on accessories. Okay, So if
you are looking or if you're in the market for
a new bag or something, yeah, i'd suggest looking into a.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Swede wait and get some waterproofer. Yes, I'm so clumsy.
I recently targets done that amazing, like real Swede collection
of shoes and bags. I bought the loafers in winter
and I recently just bought. I think it was eighty dollars,
like one of the little well medium sized crossbody in it.
That beautiful olive, Yeah, beautiful.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Great you showed me that last time, actually did? I
bought it.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
And also I haven't used it yet because it's been
raining so much here in Sydney that it's going to
be my spring bag. Because as much as suade you
do think of a winter fabric, I will look sometimes
it's not practical in the rainy weather. All Right, mine
is something I'm so excited about, which is a bit
out there. I guess I'm calling them the extreme balloon pants.
They've got a lot of different terms, you know, sometimes
(08:36):
called the Aladdin pant or the Genie pant, but it's
a big, volumeous lake with oftentimes a tie at the bottom,
so it's like a Genie pant. I think a Liar
kind of kicked it all off. A Liar's was kind
of a little bit more cropped. But there's a lot
of very high end brands that have done them. And finally,
when I say finally, I've been looking for a good
pair for a month, they're trickling down. There's some styles
(08:59):
in Zara and the time of recording this is style
I really want, but it's coming soon. Side note, I've
seen a lot of online retailer saying coming soon. Register
now it's like a pre purchase that you don't vibe.
They'll tell you when it's in stock.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
That's so good.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Birch Girl's been doing it, Zara's doing it now, and
it's like, oh, I really want that, and then they'll
email me and if I still want it when it
hits stores. But I haven't really seen a lot of
retailers doing that before. It's normally just you know, the
new arrivals tab, but now it's the coming soon, not
just for really fancy things.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
I wonder if that's sort of gauging the interest of it,
or because I think.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
That's still out so quickly.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Well that's it when there's a really good piece at
Zara or H and M. Forget it if you've logged
on at ten past nine. But it could help with
ordering volumes, which could be great because it could end
up in you know, less waste. But we're seeing these
big volumeless balloon pants like you think of it as
the extension of the barrel leg Jeene, not the balloon
leg geen, but it's a trouser or a pant, and
a lot of them are semisher or very fluid, so
(09:55):
it's more your nighttime or your You could really dress
it up with a heel, but then we are seeing
sort of I guess the back to the utility of chambre,
like a really soft denim, some more kind of cargo styles,
but it's definitely that like sinched in around on the ankle,
big balloon.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
I love that, and.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Like some of them give a bit like bar and
Bay yoga teacher vibes, like a little bit, but that's
also not bad. You know, a girlfriend wore a pair
the other night, and hers were black and they were linen,
but she wore them at night with heels and a blazer.
But in the days she could have worn them and
literally would have been the most casual pants. They were
really quite versatile.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
They're cool.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
I do like the idea of that utility pants look
with a beautiful point like a toye like me.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
I like a kitten heel, and I think also that
with a sandal and like a dad's shirt or just
a tank and a denim jacket. It's just a fun
way to wear comfortable pants comfy because they think, you know,
I'm done with the type for now. I still love
a high waist, but these are kind of you can
get from high waist to low waist, and a lot
of them are mid rise. But then it just balloons out.
Whether or not it's flattering, that's up to people's perception.
(11:00):
But they're comfortable.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
And the size of that volume in the balloon, yeah,
very so much.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
And some of them, trust me, are so exaggerated that
it almost looks like a palazzo pant that you've then
put a hair elastic around your ankles, or it might
look like a skirt. Some of them are really volumeless,
and then some of them are kind of more just
a tapered barrel, but more tapered at the ankle than
what we saw in jeans in winter.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Love it.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
I love this look. Can I do my second now?
Because it goes really well with I think we're going
to be seeing again. We spoke about this with Copenhagen
a couple of weeks. Skirt, but the jersey, the Rugby jersey,
they started with low Ay and now we've got some
of Australian brands even cought it on like it's really.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
I think like came out in big w have good ones.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
But I love that sporty and sweet.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
So it's that jersey with a cute like balloon skirt
and whether it be depending how game you are or age,
it could be the mini or a midi.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
With even a maxis skirt, like if it's like, I'm
just trying to think what I had in winter. I
did a lot of like those lace yes and sequence
yes with some sort of sheer, but you could do
share with sporty on top.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
It's so and it is that juxtaposition that we always
talk about is what creates an outfit. So basically the
opposer anything like yeah, that feminine style, so I even do.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
So it doesn't have to be the rugby top with
something else. Are we seeing more like masculine sporty with
sweet feminine? So I think sporty and sweet almost remember
sporty and rich like that, But we're in a financial crisis.
I know I had them. I don't know where it's
out of, but it's on those very fancy websites. And
I've always wanted like one of their sweats or one
(12:35):
of their t shirts. And even then when they went
on soud. I was like, I'm not doing it.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
It's too expensive, because it's sometimes nice if you do
want to go for that sporty and I know I'm
talking about sporty looks again, I like it.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
You're convincing me. You're convincing me if.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
You want to experiment and play with that and you've
got the jersey, but you don't want to pair it
with like an added as short so you actually look
like you're going to the gym.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Because that's another huge trend, right, is the additor shorts,
like the traditional kind of running shorts, but not to
go to the gym.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
That's with a heel or with like a really nice
sneaker out for lunch.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
And is that summer's version of the trackies with the
blazer and a heel that we kind of saw in
winter and we've seen a few winters.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
That's a good analogy.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah, it's like it's the like the cut off version
of that, but we're wearing an additor short.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
That's just a nice look. Yeah, Blaser, the little shorts
because micro shorts are a thing.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
So for who no, but.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
I would maybe do. I mean I do love a
Bermuda short. But I could maybe do those editor shorts
if they weren't too short, but I wouldn't do it
with a casual top. I would probably do it with
an oversized blazer so I didn't feel too tight and
short and a kitten heel. Does that kind of play into.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Your young whatever it is? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Yeah, you could even do the sock that we saw
at Copenhagen with a nice little kid in hell, this.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Is my entry level into the sporty that you've been
trying to get me into, because they've got the other stuff.
And if I do head to toe sporty vibes, it
looks like I'm going to dress up party. But I
can add that TRACKI or that short or a jersey
like I've got so many beautiful white or different colors
kind of circle skirts that are a white long skirt
that I could definitely put a jersey top with that
(14:14):
I would have never thought of.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Or even that's love that look, or where the jersey
just on your shoulders to begin.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
With straight entry level around the waist or if that
fits to high school No one does that, no comment?
Speaker 2 (14:28):
I love it?
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Yeah, so, and where is this sporty trend. It's interesting
that it's still around. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
I feel like for a few years this is than.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
I thought, right, Like, we've had what was it twenty
twenty with everyone wearing, athletes aware at home, sort of
normalized athletic comfortability, practicality, Yes, but then I thought that
would have been exhausted.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
I think I thought we would have been turned off
by it. But I think it's the comfort that kept
it around.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, and last year with the Olympics, so that brought
the trend around and revived it, and it's just been
this continuation. I think what you said, it's this yeah,
practicality comfort that we're now used to. Yeah, And I
think there is this other little trend around I hate,
I don't want to longevity and like biohacking s that
people are investor interested in health.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Yes, this is a bit of a long blow that
I'm drawing right now.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
I think there's a connection to people thinking, Okay, I'm
going to walk to work.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
They're more conscious of their health.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Because wellness is having a huge moment, and like you say,
biohacking and kind of you know, outsmarting aging and very
sort of health conscious almost as a job.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Right, I'm going to walk to work, so I need
to be comfortable in getting my vitamin D outside. I'm
going to inject myself with vitamin C and then get
to work and then like it's just comfort.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
So they need to be able to roll their sleeves up. Yeah,
because sport feels like health. You know, it's kind of
all that in that I'm an active person.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
So I think that's one of the reasons why we're
seeing it. But yeah, it's an interesting one. You either
love it or you don't or have an interest in it. Also,
it's one of those things if it works for you,
like if you're working as a lawyer or something, you're
not going to.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Be totally And that's it. I mean for a lot
of listeners, they think we're talking about weekend trends. You
and I have different jobs that we can wear quote
unquote fashion trends during the week. But I think it's
more just with this kind of information, just explaining what
people are about to see everywhere and why. It's not
that you have to go out and wear it or
try it or buy it, but you will see a
lot of these things all over the websites and all
(16:22):
over the stores, and like well, like you said before,
How did everyone know that they were all going to
make jerseys? Yeah, and it started somewhere. My next one
you actually wore when we recorded a few weeks ago
for Copenhagen Fashion Style. And this is the most simple
(16:45):
trend or you know, look to try and you've probably
already got one. Who can get one for five dollars.
It's the bandanna or square silk scarf anywhere and everywhere.
We're seeing them everywhere as a belt, you know, just
cinching in a classic maxi, you know, playing cotton maxi dress,
or with jeans and pants. You kind of fold the
bandana into a triangle scarf and then tie it around
(17:06):
your waist. We're seeing them twisted around bags as a
bag charm in the hair, I mean around the neck
if you like. They are so easy to do. I
wonder how much of a flash in the pan kind
of fast trend it will be because it's all over
my feet at the moment. And again, the algorithm serves
you what you engage with, So I don't know if
it's everywhere, but I just feel like I had a
(17:28):
bunch of these scarves, some kind of paisley print, some
are a bit tropical, print. Some are a bit naudic,
but I've got ones from Big w from Kmart. They're
a great thing to thrift because they're everywhere, and I've
always had them because I keep them in my wardrobe.
I wear a lot of white T shirts and I
were a lot of foundation. I host a beauty podcast
and I always put one over my head after I've
done my hair and makeup to get my top on
(17:48):
or my dress on, or my knit on. And so
when I saw this trend, I was like, well, hollow,
practical scarf pile that never leaves the house. And I've
seen people like loop them through their actual belt loops
on their jeans.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Such a beauty because they're always quite beautiful patterns, right,
So it's a nice way to inject that color into
your wardrobe. Yes, and a different material with that silk
to cotton's quite nice.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
A really fun fact about this trend where trends come from.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
I opened my phone one day a month ago and
then just bandanas and silk square scarves. Everyone was wearing them.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, So I we were talking about how it can
either come from like a cultural trend or it comes
from the runways influencers and people of influence can also
create these trends.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
So tastemakers. I like that because I think sometimes when
we say influencers, even though the term started not derogatory,
but you might think of like teeth whitening and protein shakes,
of those people that kind of flog anything.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
But it's so tastemakers and brands actually have eyeballs on
key people and create what they're wearing. Yes, some of
the big content creators or taste makers are quite even
aware of this and they like they do something. So
this trend around the bandana. Her name's Laura Rosso. She's
an ex byer. She's from France, Explyer netda Porte. But anyway,
(19:05):
she was pregnant. She loved her Levi's five oh one
ribk obsessed with these jeans if you haven't tried them.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
I have three pairs, but they're not pregnancy pregnant. They
literally sit under your rear and it's so tight depending
on the side.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
So she was pregnant going to work in the office.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
She still really wanted to wear her jeans, so she
wrapped the bandana around it so she could wear the
buttons undone.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
And that's how that trend was born.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
So it's someone a tastemaker who's been spotted in this
sharing it around.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Then everyone's picked up and it's gained this momentum.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
And that's it. When a beautiful pick like that hits
p Interest and it's shared enough. If that item isn't
readily available, the stores are going to and the brands
are going to jump on it and make it. I mean,
in this case, they are everywhere you can buy them.
I've got a bunch of recommendations, but like they're already
in stores anyway. There's always a section of Yourmyori David Jones.
It has bandanas and scarfs.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Most people have a bandana or everyone does.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Can I tell you quickly, I'm just gonna give you
a few recommendations for that, because I mean Ruby, like
Ruby's shoes. They've got some really cute ones. Twenty bucks
Big w has a really cute kind of goldie bronze
toned like it almost that mustard that we to launch
the Copenhagen It's four dollars twenty Leavisa has a bunch
of them, So just go to your affordable accessory store.
(20:17):
Worst case scenari if you don't have it in your outfit.
Just use it to put your clothes on over your
head so you don't get makeup on anything.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
That's so good. I love that.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
And if it's not the waist like I did wear
it the other week throughout and it felt I felt
daring wearing that. But I do like the trend. Actually
it's not just around jeans. It can like I had
it around a blazer. Cool, So it's on the outside.
It creates like an asymmetric vibe with the angle of
the bandanner, which I think adds an element of.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Interest to another.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Yeah, and if you want to, you know, experiment and
you don't want it on your body, you know, wrapped
around your handbag is really cool. And I think I've
seen also women kind of almost roll them up and
put like little beads and it's like a cuff kind
of cuff bangal thing.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
That's so cool.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
You can you do anything with that?
Speaker 2 (21:01):
I'm going to try that.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
I love that? All right, What else have you got
for me?
Speaker 3 (21:04):
So my third one, and it sort of ties into
the bandannas is accessories and sculptural accessories.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
So whether we see.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
That in jewelry or more handbags, it sees extravagant almost sculptures,
like you're carrying around a piece of art instead of
a bag. We saw it at Copenhagen Fashion Week with
and Sophie Madisen.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
She had the rat bags that we spoke about.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Someone on the street had a giant dog that wasn't
a real dog. It was a giant black leather dog
looking bag.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yeah, it's a real statement.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
We've seen Fendy do the fidazzled fish, which is you know,
it's crazy, it's out there.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I want it. It looks amazing, they've got the price there.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
But I think we're going to be seeing these sculptural
accessories in bags. Okay, quirky quirky, and it's that entry
gateway into maximalism that people can play around with. Okay,
it feels quite decadent, like if you've got money to spend,
do you buy it on a random bag that you're
probably only going to wear a few times.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Yeah, it feels a bit wasteful unless you are already
an eclectic maximalist, like I think it would be very
strange if I just want and bought a big green
frog bag, yes, because people would be like, wow, I
would love to own one and to play with it,
but to spend my money on it and cost her
wear and just the waste. I'm not sure. But I
love looking at this stuff and if it's fresh and different.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
And if it brings you joy, or if it's for
a sentimental moment. So my sister's getting she's got a
Hen's party coming up, and she's a catch. Potentially the
Fendy fish bag could be a nice piece that she
gets for the hens party. Yes, and we'll always remember
it for that. Yes, So something a bit different, yeah, yeah,
so we'll.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Be seeing those.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
I'm sure they'll trickle down into high Street and they'll
become more affordable. Yeah, but something if that's sort of interest.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Yes, just to know that it's coming. Well, mine kind
of links into that. Mine's all accessories when it comes
to jewelry, because I think we saw fine jewelry for
so long, and when I say fine, I don't mean
necessarily made of solid gold, but I mean really fine
chains and pendants and fine in its. Overall, it was
barely their jewelry, really barely their jewelry. And then kind
(23:10):
of last season we started to see more of the
chunky fobs and chunkier chains and then this season. What
I've noticed so much is that anything goes as long
as it's big. So it's woven fabrics and you know,
kind of yarns as well as big chunky metals, mixed metals,
charm bracelets, charm necklaces, pendants, beatings, colored stones, So everything's
(23:33):
sort of a bit boho or maybe drawing from surf
culture or a bit like your crazy art teacher. I
don't know if about you, but mine wore these kind
of big, weird colored block things, even.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Like the black leather chain with like some sort.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Of yes with a star or a heart, like we
wore those in the early two thousands. Slided anyway, everywhere anywhere,
not just here, Like you're saying the surf culture.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
That's a really interesting point, Like is it just based
on Australian culture with us coming into summer, But it
was everywhere in Copenhagen as well.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Yeah, and at.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
The other Big four, So it's a trend that is global.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Yeah. Back when I was at Shop two drop magazine,
so probably fifteen years ago. Now, everything I'm seeing on
websites and in stores was available back then. It was
you know, not exactly the same, but the same sort
of vibe that sometimes it looks a little bit homemade.
It's a mixed mash of you know, a stack on
the arm of resin bangles or b bangles as well
as you'll find jewelry. It's not that you have to
(24:27):
ditch your fine jewelry, but like you said last time,
you know, things keep coming back, and jewelies are really great.
Even if it's costume jewely, it's something you can easily
keep it home because it doesn't take up a lot
of space. You're probably not going to get a huge
amount of money secondhand costume jewelry. However, I've got some
amazing resin bangals lately from thrift stores. I've gone to
all the Vinie's and i just go to that weird
(24:48):
pile of everything's two dollars, and you know, you get
some unique pieces that are really affordable at a thrift
store and you put it all together and you're getting
this eclectic So yeah, I love it. Zara's got some
amazing pieces. And then on the iconic there is that
brand Bershka. It's big overseas This sort of speaks to
your animal weird bag. There's like a seashell bracelet. It's
(25:10):
gold medal. Seashell obviously seashell. What's that called starfish? It's starfish.
So we're kind of seeing much more quirk and shells
as well. There's some beautiful kind of ornate all different
kind of how do I explain it? Like they're different stones,
but it's not that kind of glitzy chandelier's stone. It's
still a structural They're still very elegant and elevated, not
(25:32):
so much what you would maybe think you boorder your
year ten formal. Yeah, and I've got I honestly have
still got not all of them, but a lot of
those pieces that aren't exactly right on trend right this second.
But I'd rather wear stuff I bought fifteen years ago
than go to not that I don't love Lavisa, go
to Levesa and buy you know, a few more. Yeah,
because it's still individual story.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
It sort of links back to what I was saying
initially about people wanting to buy into that emotion and
what evokes emotion, and that for you, even if it's
pieces from what you have or buying into this trend,
you've got that.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Story of how you used to wear it.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
I know, I love it and it's affordable. I think
you know what I like about bags and jewelry like
this is that maybe not so much bags, but I
mean these things always fit you. A bandanna you'll always use.
Your bag's always going to fit you. Sometimes you don't
want to buy clothing items because it's so trend based
and you're not sure about it, whereas I feel like
an accessory that's always one size. You know you can
(26:28):
order online. A bag will fit, whether it or fit
or your things, and it is another thing. But accessories
and bags are something that you can relatively safely try
not need to have altered, if that makes sense. So
I'm it's gonna be hard for me because I'm quite
a fine jewelry person. Ish I've got some chunky chains,
but I'm gonna go ham with like the weird beads.
I'm going to be that weird auntie teature. I don't
(26:50):
want to look like that, but I'm going to try
some statement.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
You love that.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
I think we should both try that next time we
see each other and just have the layer.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Stripping in jingles and jangles we're not actually allowed to
have when we film and record because we make too
many noises quickly before we do Bougie and Budget. We
talked a little bit about polka dots in the Copenhagen
Fashion Week one. But Poka dots everywhere? Are they everywhere?
Is it just me?
Speaker 3 (27:12):
No, They're everywhere everywhere, actually everywhere. I thought we'd definitely
see some before watching any of the shows at Copenhagen.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
I keep referencing Copenhaguen because it's the one that's just been.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Yes, I thought, yeah, we'd see some, but almost every
second show was showing it, and in men's wear as.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Well, And it's all over the like I've just had
a quick browse, it's all over the iconic, it's all
over the kind of big mass retailers here.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
And different iterations, so different scales, the large polka dot,
the really micro ones, the black and white, which is
sort of where it started. Yeah, jacka muf started it.
He did a lot of zebra. But I think this
is a good point. Zebra and polka dots almost falls
into this same pocket as why. I think they're both
being trends coming back, and it's just a nice black
and white entryway into experimenting with a different color. We've
(27:57):
all got these mutual black and white wardrobes if you
want to mix it up out of different print.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
And they're so different because I think polka dots and
this is just because I don't I'm not educated on
the topic. I think Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, when
she's dressed up at the polo, this is how old
am and she's I think that. And then zebra print,
which is not even this show. I think like Carol
Baskin and that weird lion show a Tiger King. I think,
(28:24):
I think the really classy lady. And then like I
don't know, but you're right. It's a way to mix
classic colors like.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Their so you're not wearing at the same time.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
But if it's but yeah, if you're wanting to say,
you know what, I want to add something new.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
I want to start adding some uniqueness.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Let's try poka dot and it was always black and
white to begin with, but now it's different colors and
bold colors.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
I think, like a tan and white. But you're right,
an animal print, like one of those classic animal prints
or a polka dot, always comes back or won't look
completely out of place if you wear them in two years,
even though you brought it now because it's still kind
of a stayer a classic print, if that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
And when you think about animal prints, so yeah, that
is another trend I guess we can talk about now.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
But zebra print, it always used to be like the
cheetah and.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Yeah, but now it's more that they've taken like a
backseat and it's all around the zebra. But those colors
are all in that neutral spacey brown black, so it's
an easy way. I've actually got a new pair of
the barrel Jean zebra print from verg Girl, and they're
just a nice with a black plain tea.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Yeah, they don't feel outrageous whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
When I wore them, but they speak enough for themselves
that you can just literally check on a T.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Shirt and it's it's nice. I feel different. It's not
just your run of the mill jeans, which we're both wearing.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Okay, I'm not trying to get into some zebra and
I'm gonna dig outs. I always love a poka dot.
I love it. I've got some old dresses and I'm
going to dig up. It's very expensive, all right, let's
(30:11):
do bougie and budget. Okay, so we're talking well, I've
chosen to items that we've kind of talked about. Let's
start with your bougie.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
That's your bougie, my bougie.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
So my first friend was Swayed, so my bougie budget
is just Swayed options.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
And it is NIM the label. Have you heard of
Nim the label. It's an Australian brands ringing a bell.
They do accessories.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
My phone's listening, so I'm sure i'll be served a
out on Instagram after this.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
I originally got one of their bags, which is made
out of this sort of plastic materials made for mums
essentially or people on the go, so if you steal
coffee or a milk bottle in there, you can wipe
it up. They've just come out with a Swede bag.
I've got here now with me?
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Is it real?
Speaker 3 (30:50):
It's a real Swede So I think this one's about
seven fifty Okay, yeah, so that's what a Swayed bag
generally costs. But it is a big moon shape and
it really hugs into the.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Body nice, so it's not annoying to carry.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
It's so practical for a Swede bag. It's got the
zip on it O color a dark brown so Mocko
that Panto color of the year.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Yes, it's just I'm wearing it daily.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Okay, back to what we were saying that, oh, Swede's
a bit hard to wear.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
I really I haven't found that. Like I sort of
just throw it around and it's my everyday back.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
But the thing is, I think with something like that,
it looks good beaten up on a bit warning and
it's just that first little scuff that you get, You're like,
damn it, but then at once it's fully, you know,
worn in. I think sway looks great secondhand because it's
someone's done that.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
To it, and it almost it's better. It's just for me.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
I'm so culmsy. Okay, I'm going to check out that brand.
Good Ossie brand, all right. My bougie isn't even that expensive.
I actually haven't picked a pair yet. Well, I could
pick a very expensive pair. It's the exaggerated balloon jeanie pants.
There's a few pairs on Revolve that I want. One
brand's called Lovers and Friends, and there's another very expensive
(31:59):
brand on shop Bop. Anyway, I'm not going to go
there because I'm not going to wear them that much.
Zara have two pairs, and as I mentioned, one is
coming soon that I haven't decided about, but I can't.
I kind of like that it's coming soon because I
get to think about it before it sells, you know,
it sells out. The other pair is a ZW collection
one hundred percent linen tied eye balloon trousers. They're kind
(32:19):
of like, oh, they're a balloon, but they're not that
kind of Genie shape at the bottom, but they're a
really kind of cool How do I explain it? When
I say tidy, it's like the slightest change in color
from like a grayish to a gray beige.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
And it's still silk.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
They're linen, but they're quite flowy.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Beautiful and like a bone color from a thank you.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
That's the color I was trying to think of. These
ones are in now, and will I get enough wear
out of them? I don't know. They called the Foil
Sarruel something trousers fifty nine ninety five and they're the
proper balloon bottom with the elastic around the waist. But
from what I can see online, I think they're like
a shiny silver. They're like a disco pant. I think
I'll hold out for a semi siny but not too shiny,
(33:01):
beigey cream pear because I wear a lot of light
colored pants in summer, so I don't think I've found
my pair yet, but I'm looking look good jeanie pants.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Good reference. How much were the bougie ones?
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Oh, the ones on the other website? Just like six
I'm not doing it. No, I'm like, hurry up and
be inspired by other stores because it's it's a flash
in the pant. I've always liked volumeless pants. I've had
a lot of barrel jeans for many years, mostly vintage.
But this is quite a statement. So I'm not going
to send six hundred bucks on something, but I don't
think i'll wear, you know, for many years. Yeah, all right,
(33:35):
what's your budget?
Speaker 3 (33:36):
My budget is a faux swayed bag quite similar from
Glassoes clever so fifty dollars.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
Okay in the shape similar.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Very similar, and it comes actually in a really beautiful
cream color.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Like it's a really nice cut.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Slightly smaller, yeah, but yeah, Glass and do some great
post wad.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
There's a lot of good posts waight around actually.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
And if you are a little bit nervous about that
sort of wear and tear with a suede, especially.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
A cream color. You're brave, although waterproofer if you do
a few coats. Yeah, like the next day, it's pretty
like amazing. I'm a very comsy person. I even waterproof.
I fakeswight. I don't know if it works, but I've
told myself for that it does, and it kind of
makes it quite resilient.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Nice. Okay.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
My budget speaks to the jewelry trend we were talking
about that. I'm going to kind of get out of
my simple gold or chains. H of them have these
really cool bracelets. It's in two colors. I'm going to
buy both and then wear them together because I'm going
to be a eclectic and cool. The HM cord bracelet
I'm going to show you that's the kind of blue
and red. It looks like a bit of a nautical
rope not but then it's got like a actually it
(34:40):
feels quite nautical little beads and I don't know how
to explain. It looks like a shoelace that someone tied up. Anyway,
it's very cool. We're gonna put a link in the
show notes. And then there's the there's like a bright
almost acid yellow. And I think because I wear a
certain amount of jewelry all the time on one wrist,
but mostly it's metal. I think adding in kind of
fabric textures or rope or beading kind of modernizes it.
(35:04):
But I don't have to take off my forever jewelry.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Yes, I love this.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
They're thirty nine ninety nine each. See that little class
Oh very well?
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Yeah cool.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
You could turn that into a bag charm.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
I love.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
If you don't want to wear it around your wrist,
hang these off your bag.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Oh I get some of these?
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Cool?
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Is this whole charm? Ye drink? It is a trend
within itself. We're seeing it in shoelaces as well, so
people adding these.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
I agree. Levisa has a lot of bag charms that
you can also wear as bracelets. I think it's kind
of like the multi use accessory. You can wear as
a bracelet, some of them as a necklace, or you're
just on your.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Bag and it's choosing your colors, personalizing.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Yeah, oh yeah, and it's different. Oh yeah, I'm so
excited for a new season. Thank you so much for
joining me again, my friend. It's always a pleasure to
have you.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
