Speaker 1 (00:10):
So you're listening to a MoMA Mia podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Mama Mia acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters
that this podcast is recorded on.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Makeup is My Therapy. I'm in love, I'm obsessed, and
I don't even feel.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Jailty of body.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello, and welcome to Your Beauty, the podcast for Your Face.
I'm Lee Campbell, I'm Kelly McCarran. First, I wanted to
tell you something I just learned. I love facts.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
On average, women take two point five years of their
entire life getting ready.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Oh hell, I'd spend a lot longer than that me too,
So I love it.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
It's part of my Like I love getting ready.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Well, it's literally our jobs, but it's also for me.
It's like it makes me happy, it's me time.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I think that we're meant to be outraged, like the patriarchy,
and men don't have to do that.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Well, they're just.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Too busy spending an hour on the toilet.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, but also we host this show, so that's what
we do. But I also, like you said in defensive,
people that really enjoy it. If you feel like that
kind of fact is vilifying your hobby, I approve.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Honestly, sometimes I think with these facts, it's like that, Yeah,
they put them out to outrageous. It's like, you know,
they go, if you bother your coffee every day, you're
spending three thousand dollars a year.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
And yeah, it makes me happy that moment.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
I would spend more because that moment every day makes
me so happy.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
And I want to try my scar. And I don't
care how many years it takes exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Anyway, Q and A. So the ubi's ask us questions.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
I couldn't help, but wonder ask me anything.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
You ask many questions.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Two wonderful questions today what are we starting with.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
So later on the episode, we've got a conundrum that
I feel like so many people have had.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Guys such a good word.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
I sure have, because when I was a teenager, my
mum always was like, when you're grown up, you won't
get pimples anymore.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Lies.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Why the lies?

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Anyway?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
So that's later in the episode.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
But first a Ubie who's thinking about making a huge
switch in her beauty routine.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Huge.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
I'm being sarcastic.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Okay, I'm gonna read it. Jesse sent us a DM.
She says, Hyley and Kelly. I'm thirty five and have
been using black muscara my whole life, but I keep
seeing people rave about brown mascara for a more natural look.
I have medium brown hair and hazel eyes. Oh my god,
you need to do this?

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Should I make this switch?

Speaker 2 (02:48):
And if so, what's the best way to transition without
looking washed out? What are the best brown mascaras?

Speaker 1 (02:54):
I've never heard.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
I don't think that she's gonna who would look washed out?

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Maybe someone with really dark features, well would look Yeah,
you would look washed out with brown?

Speaker 1 (03:01):
No I do it now.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Sometimes I've got many things to say about this. Okay,
look it's not you say, how do I transition?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
It's not not hard. It's not that big of a difference.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
There are some brown products that throw a lot of
warmth and almost look ready burgundy.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
But then you've got some deep chocolate espresso brown.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
You can't really even tell the difference.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
But with your hazel eyes, it will make a little
bit of a difference. I think it's a beautiful don't
we love a mascara wardrobe? Just get one brown and
add it to your black rotation, and maybe you do
brown for the office or you know, Monday or whatever,
and you're black for your fancy things.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Do you agree?

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Oh, I just don't like don't overthink it. It's just mascara.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
I do like brown.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
And also, it was really hard to find brown before,
and now everyone's doing good ones.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Because a lot of people are making the life changing transition.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
So I've got some recommendations as to you, and I
think we're going to say similar things. But I often
do brown, and because I've got pretty much black.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Hair, I've got quite dark features.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
And also I always do like a bit of a
liner or wing no matter what color I'm doing, So
I would start with some brown liner at the root
of the lash before I put my mascara on. I've
got two recommendations because I love a liquid. It's called
the Judy Slim Liquid. They've got like three different types
of browns. It's nine dollars and thirty four cents. It's
one of those Kbudjbauty products.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
It's so good.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
You literally just kind of stiffle into the lash line
and it looks like you've had your like tint, like
a lush tint that's brown. If you want a traditional
pencil and something you can kind of smoke out a
little bit and get that real kind of cool look.
I love the Rim All RIM's got like a brown
coal that's really affordable, and you just use that and
you've got a bit of working time to sort of
smudge it out, then just curl you lushes and go
in with your mesca are my favorites. Revlon all In

(04:40):
Tubing muscaa in brown full price. It's twenty five ninety
five at the time of recording, and when I purchased it.
I've had it for a long time, but it's often
on sale twelve dollars. It's a tubula, but it's harder
to get off than a normal tubula, but it gives
you really impressive lashes, which you, I guess want if
you're downgrading the impact by color. Yeah, two face better
than sex, which is absolutely coult Status has a brown

(05:04):
it's just called chocolate. Fifty one dollars though, that's at Mecca.
So if you're going to try it and you're not
sh maybe get one of the more affordable one to see.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
How you feel about the color before you commit.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Correct.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Then this is my little hack that I do sometimes
because as I age and as lushes go through cycles,
sometimes my lashes are phenomenal, and then sometimes I'm like,
where are you gone?

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Where did you flutter off to?

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Are you going to come back? I bought these on Amazon.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
They're brown lush clusters. The brand is TNVF okay, I
don't know how to say it. We're going to link
in the show notes. And they're like little tiny, like
not individuals but not a fool or a half strip
and they're brown, and so I just put one or
two on the outer corner after I've done my mascara.
They're very easy to put on eighteen ninety nine and
you get this huge pack and They're like a deep, deep,

(05:50):
dug round, but it just looks like you can't really
tell they're there. It just gives me some definition on
the outer corner. And it's a brown.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I love them. Okay, I've rebought them them. Oh they're
so good. They're coming in black. As though.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
I want to try more brown mascara because I actually
didn't have any recommendations off the top of my head,
so I went deep on Reddit to find some suggestions
for people. So my hacks are exactly like, use a
bit of brown liner to just thicken it up, because
otherwise you might be it might not look as impactful.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Curl your lashes to open the mark always.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
And then the three that I selected are Mecha Max
Whiplash Tubing mascara twenty six dollars.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
I forgot about that one.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
I don't it's amazing.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
I haven't tried the brown, but I love the black,
so I assume it's the same.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
I just read some great things. Natio Extreme Volume mascara
sixteen ninety five vouch for that in the black, and
it's tubula yes exactly, also comes in the chocolate brown.
And then Tower twenty eight was the highest rated that's
thirty five and the chocolate color is meant to be.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I love their black one. I love so much Tower
twenty eight. I'm obsessed.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Don't matter anything.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Oh wait, I try to lip balm woman, get yourself
to Mecca, the little sos orange spray, the mini go,
get the mini.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Dying to hear how it goes.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Please jump in the you beauty group because I just
want to hear other people's Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
I recently brought like a burgundy Muscara.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Beautiful, that's your color, haven't used to please?

Speaker 2 (07:09):
So a little trick with like colors, maybe not brown,
but you can do black and then just do a
little green or a burgundy on the tip and it
really brings your eyes out, and it.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
Also like won't be super noticeable. It'll just like give
someone a bit of it.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Ooh yeah yeah, but you just go, oh I've got
that on.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Yeah exactly, cmds put on your lushes.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
So Francesca has asked, Hello, I'm twenty eight and starting
to notice fine lines around my eyes, but I also
still get the occasional breakout. I'm so confused about what
products to use. Do I focus on anti aging or
acne prevention? Can I use both retinal and salicylic acid.
I feel like I'm too young for any aging but
too old for teenage skincare.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
That's a song too young for men and too old
for women.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
No, not the one anyway, you just made that up. No,
but there's a song like something like that. Welcome to
having a face.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Honestly, I had awful acne when I was a teenager.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Oh, when you're a grown up, you won't get acne anymore.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Well us, then I got even worse acne, not worse,
but I've got bad acne again in my twenty Yeah,
you know, And like.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
I don't know if you can see I've concealed it.
I mean, it's just one spot. I'm not saying I'm
Blackney butch guy or I can't wait to go home
and pop him because he's ready. Okay, anyway, you're gonna
get breakouts as particularly if you breakout prone. But you know, hormones, periods, pery, babies, postpartum.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Perry, pary bno, all of the things.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
So what I would suggest is to not think of
your face as one entity like do face mapping.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
So you're saying you get lines around your eyes.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Also, you're not too young for anti aging, So where
like anti aging has changed.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
You used to think of like, you.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Know, get rid of your wrinkles, fuss yes, and do.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
It when you're sixty and use that kind of weird cream.
But it's kind of like preventative aging. So you should
be doing that anyway.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
Your skin is healthy and nourished as possible basically exactly.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
So it's not like we're telling you to go get
anti wrinkle, but the products you should be using are
antiaging by default. So a beautiful I cream around the eye,
it's something nice and hydrating and nourishing, or alternating with
like a retinal I cream. The medicaiate one's great. I
love the go to one, so you could do that.
I mean you can do them every night, but something
hydrating in the morning to like plump out those lines.
And then where your breakouts are, you can treat them

(09:21):
with something anti acne. Like I think we kind of think, oh,
you're clear A sells. You've got to go to that
teenage section. There's so many good things, so spot treat
as you go or I do have a few product recommendations,
so I've brought some expensive ones because brands aren't silly.
They know that women are dealing with these two things
at once. Two recommendations. I think you really used to
love this one. It's the skin Cuticle Stilly maarn ce

(09:43):
CF so the skin cutical C FARUK is the famous
cult vitamin C. But they have got one called Silly
Marin that's two hundred and forty two dollars. Sorry, that
is a beautiful vitamin C. But for combination breakout prone skin,
vitamin C in and of itself is anti aging because
it's preventative and it also helps fade post breakout pigmentation

(10:06):
or dark marks, so that would be great and sorry.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
But the other one I brought is from skin Scus.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
It's the Skin Suityhicles, Blemish and Age Defense Serum. Oh yeah,
it's literally a serum for for both people who want
to treat well, not treat aging, treat breakouts, but also
you know, prevent against aging. That one's one hundred and
forty five, so it's a bargain in comparison.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
To silly Silly Man Billy prices.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
And that one's got salicilic and retinol in it I believe,
or maybe the other. Anyway, Yes, you can use salicilic
and retinol. They are both quite active, so it would
depend where and how, but they can absolutely be in
the same routine.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Retinol.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Vitamin a is was originally formulated for breakout, So your
retinol is going to help your breakouts as it is
because it promotes cell tone over and kind of clears
those up. So vitamin a is like the gold standard,
most studied ingredient and it's going to do a lot
of things. So you are, if you're using retinol antiaging
and treating your breakouts, what do you got to say?

Speaker 4 (11:00):
I was going to say the same, like focus on
hydration peptides and then just use your salicilic acid.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Why do you love peptides so much? Explain why this work.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
It's going to plump up your skin and just to
get it Like keeping it hydrated and plump is going
to stop you looking old in inverted commas like that's
what's going to make your skin look so healthy and youthful.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
And when she says she's not ready for anti aging,
do you assume she means like anti wrinkly, like like
the injections and stuff.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
Or just like she's thinking about those old school campaigns
where it's like get rid of your wrinkles type thing
where it's like, no, no, we're just focusing on our
skin health and I am the same, and then I
just use like a spot treatment on pimples when they
come up. Yes, I would definitely start with a mild
retinal and just work your way up to using it
a couple of times a week. Yes, so this will,

(11:51):
as Lee said, it will help with both the fine
lines and any spots. So Medicate Crystal Retinal Image, Skincare,
Retinal and Paula's choice.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
All do.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
I'm sure that there are other ones, but those are
the ones that were top of mind. All do different strengths,
and you can start at.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
A really lorate don't you.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
Exactly, But you can start like some people might start
on a point three and then just stay there for them.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
The medicaid systems fantastic. I think I started a three,
you go three, six, ten, twelve or something.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
I think there's like a twenty or twenty don't Yeah,
but some people stay at the six because it works well.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
I just have the three around because I just know
I can use them all regularly.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
So look into something like that where you can get
the different percentage when we had the Medicaid founder on
the formula or not that recently, but we'll make sure
that we link it in the show notes. He talked
more about their retinals and why they formulated and then
that way.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
That was an excellent episode.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
It's brilliant. Also, I would look into.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
If your budget will allow for either just regular micro
andeedling or radio frequency micro andeedling, because once again that
will help with both spots and the signs of aging
that you're really not happy about.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Or in your area, find a skin expert who does
really good professional extractions. I love when I get I
used to get a lot of breakouts down here. I
used to take pre work out when exercise. I'm very
sensitive to stimulants, and it was like stimulating.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Oh that makes me think. Hober oil. It's antibacterial, but
also so nourished, so nourishing.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
That's what cleared up all those breakouts to me. And
I had had millions of peels. I tried everything expensive,
you know, I know what to do for my job,
but her Hoverer oil just playing.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Whenever people are wondering about like how do I fix
my skin, and like strip everything back, just use your.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Home which is not an oil. It's a wax. It's
not going to make you acne worse, and it's antibacterial.
So yes, and yeah, I was going to say extractions.
If you've got some deep breakouts or breakouts you can't clear.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Up my facial lady.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
Sometimes I'm like, I did not know there was something
there I love and she's like having a hunch and
the things that she finds in there.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Yeah it's so as well. Oh yeah, she's good to
shift treeses. Mine uses like a needle and.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Yeah, but for hair, so she should tweezer because my brows.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
So yes, you can definitely treat both. Think of your
face as separate areas or just find some skincare that's
going to do both. So, as you might have noticed
last week, we've changed host Hack to Beauty Bite, which
is just us talking about wonderful things.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
It might be a pro anything beauty related. We can
bring it to the table.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah, just a little something to say.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Mine is I recently cleaned up my beauty products and
it was a reminder to me in a PSA to
you is that your products want to stand up, most
of them. This is your mescara and your liquid eye line.
I'm talking mostly about makeup. I mean, I don't think
a lot of people lay their skincare down in serums
and stuff.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
They're sitting up.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
But because my little beauty station in my bedroom has
a row of like storage drawers, a.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Lot of people have them rolled like lying down.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yes, And then my favorite liquid liner was always drying
out too much. And then I realized it's because it's like,
why are you doing this to me?

Speaker 1 (14:57):
So now I just got I got some. They're from BINGW.
They're really cute.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
They're meant to be for toothbrushholder, like it's a tooth thresholder,
but it looks fake marble. I've got like three of those,
and it's got all my liquid liners, my mescas, even
your concealer with the dough for even your lip. They
want to be standing up at attention, ready to go
with the juice down the bottom so that you don't have.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
To like.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Brilliantly or if you've got your mascara laying down, it
all kind of settles and then one side of the
brushes all goofy. So if you've got you know, it's hard.
If you've got just a makeup bag that you keep
stuff in. But it made me think you a month
or two ago recommended a really fantastic small business with
a makeup and.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Everything standing up. We'll link it in the show notes.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
I mean, it's not mandatory, but your products will last long, good,
the pigment will stay better. So stand those guys up
and then lay down your shadow palettes, your bronzes. Everything
can go in those draws in my bedroom right now.
And I've got everything standing up.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Now that's liquid, I genious.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Welcome.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
Well, yes, I didn't bring anything to the table, so
I've brought a bag to the table.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
I did see that, and I want it.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
I thought you might like to know what's in my
little beauty bab. No, I want the actual bag packed
for the day.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
I want the packet. I just grabbed it. But what
is the bag? Is it just one of those freebie
bags to get with brands.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
I've got absolutely no idea.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
But it's like a little mesh I'll reverse google image it.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
Oh, it's just a mesh bag.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Can I tell you what?

Speaker 2 (16:16):
I like mesh bags because they don't take up any
extra space, any beautiful leather ones.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
But I don't have room.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
Do you want to see what's in my bag?

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Or no? Kind of Oh, I'm.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Really hoping that you. No, I guess your favorite product?
Oh so I can only choose one. Oh, that's a
good one. Okay. Do you know what a brush?

Speaker 1 (16:34):
A brush?

Speaker 4 (16:35):
No? Okay, fine, this is what I would use the
most in this little bag because I just will. It's filthy,
but I just will touch up under my eyes like that.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
I'll go there, go there.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
Just buff in any products so I'm not oily or
my makeups and stram.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
