Good afternoon. I'm Raeleen Ramsay. This is your afternoon news
fix for Friday, the twenty sixth of July. The Prime
Minister is calling for information on an alleged pedophile ring
of former central government politicians in the nineteen eighties. A
landmark final report from a Royal commission investigating abuse in
state and faith based care institutions references deeply suspicious evidence

of historic offending against children by groups of people in
public positions of influence. Chris Luckson says the inquiry has
been unable to make a finding because of a lack
of substantiated evidence.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
But again I just encourage anyone in everyone where you've
seen or experienced abuse who want people to come forward
to police.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Police Commissioner Andrew Costa will be gone by April, not
seeking a second term in the role. His relationship with
the latest police Minister has been tense at times, but
their relationship appared to smooth in recent months. Mark Mitchell
says he's spoken to Costa about the decision, but is
not sharing details. Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner says there are

green shoots for crime rates. An extra twenty one police
have been deployed in Auckland, CBD as part of a
stage rollout which will add sixty three more staff to
beat teams across the city. Commissioner Andrew Costa says, while
he doesn't have the exact statistics, there is a downwards
trend in crime.

We need to see a sustained reduction and people are
seeing a much greater presence of himself.

And for Cargoll's mayor has been called out for not
attending the extraordinary meeting looking into his code of conduct.
Nobby Clark's been found in breach of the code of
conduct following an investigation into his use of the N
word and a homophobic slur in a TV interview earlier
this year. Councilors are currently discussing it. Complain of Counselor

En Pottinger says the mayor's apology earlier this week isn't good.

Enough, ubi St Mayor. Where is the man? Why is
he not here to speak to his statement?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Keywis are very worried about the prospect of another Donald
Trump presidency. That's according to new polling from Tall Bitton Mills,
which shows almost forty percent of those surveyed so they
are extremely concerned about the former president winning another term.
Political editor Jason Walls has the exclusive numbers.

The numbers paint a picture already known to most, Donald
Trump is a polarizing figure. In addition to the forty
percent of extremely concerned people, a further fourteen percent say
they are very concerned. Some nine percent of people say
they're just slightly concerned about another Trump White House, with
twenty one percent saying they're not concerned at all.

An intense downpour is said to hit the lowest southwest
of the South Island later tonight. Met Services issued a
warning for Central Fieldland and rain watches for northern and
southern parts. Meteorologist John Law says the heaviest rain will
be between Blick Sound and Resolution Island.

Now there's amount of rainfall, we could well find those
streams and rivers arising rapidly through parts of the Feord
and region. To take extra care with your river crossings
as we go through the next few days.
