Good afternoon. I'mrailan Ramsay. This is your afternoon news fixed
for Wednesday, the twenty fifth of September. A persons died
after an avalanche near Mount Arrowsmith in mid Canterbury. Rescuers
including a helicopter was sent to the Arrowsmith Range just
before twelve thirty this afternoon. A person was trapped and
in a critical condition when recovered about one and died

soon after. Rescue chopper pilot Dan McPherson says a group
was hally skiing when the avalanche happened. The worker who
released a Transpower pylon off its moorings, which fell, cutting
power to Northland, had been employed for less than three months.
