Good afternoon. I'm Malcolm Jordan and this is your midday
newsfakes for Wednesday, the sixteenth of October. The war against
inflation has officially been one. Later STATSNZ figure show the
inflation rate has dropped to two point two percent, back
within the Reserve banks one to three percent target range
with the latest business reporter Michael sergl.

Just three months ago inflation was three point three percent,
and just two years ago it was seven point three percent,
a once in a generation high. The last time inflation
was this low was early twenty twenty one.

Non tradable inflation remains at four point nine percent due
to rising insurance premiums and council rates. Police have gathered
in Waikato's Tiawa Mutu investigating a homicide overnight. Police and
Saint John found a man unconscious just before midnight when
they were called to a disorder incident on Terrahu Road,

and he later died. A twenty seven year old man
one and thirty four year old woman were arrested. Charges
are being considered and police aren't ruling out more arrests.
