Good afternoon. I'm railing Ramsay. This is your afternoon news
fix for Wednesday. It's the twenty sixth of March. Auckland
could be front of the queue and securing a regional
deal with the government. The Minister for the City, Simeon Brown,
has spoken at the Herald Project Auckland luncheon utlining the
government's vision for growth. Brown says he welcomes the Council's

City Deal proposal, which could unlock economic growth, build houses
and deliver infrastructure.

All we advocating for Auckland to be the first cab
off the rank for a regional deal so we can
build on the strong progress we've already made for Auckland
in the past eighteen months.

Brown says the government's looking into building a second South
Auckland hospital. Three men have appeared in court accused of
extorting shoppers at a South Auckland supermarket. Five people filed complaints,
including a woman who says Pack and Save security guards
accused her of shoplifting and demanded almost four hundred dollars.

A twenty three year old is accused of inducing an
indecent act, on top of charges of extortion or obtaining
by deception. A nineteen year old faces deception and extortion charges.
A thirty nine year old man whose lawyer entered a
not guilty plea to one charge of extortion has a
case review in May. All three have been remanded on bail.

Labour's Duncan Webb says government sentencing reforms are a simplistic
fix to a complex issue. Laws aiming to strengthen consequences
for offenders passed their third reading in the House this morning.
Changes include a forty percent on sentence discounts judges can
apply and preventing repeat discounts for youth and remorse. Web

A year nine christ A student is being excluded from
school accused of assaulting teachers with scissors last Wednesday. Jamie
Cunningham reports.

The principal says the board found the student's behavior harmful
and a dangerous example to others. She says the student
is being required to leave and attend another school because
they're under sixteen. Both staff are still off work. Police
say the student will appear in Youth Court next month
facing a number of charges.

Labour's Panair heir Nare has apologized to Parliament for joining
a Huker during the reading of the Treaty Principal's Bill
last year. Parliament's Privileges Committees ruled it was undoubtedly disorderly
behavior but doesn't amount to contempt. He's said sorry to
the House following the report's recommendation.

unreservedly to the House for acting in a disorderly manner
that disrupted a vote being taken and impeded the House
and its function.
