Good afternoon. I'm railing Ramsey. This is your afternoon news
fix for Tuesday, the sixth of May. The government's begun
reading legislation. It's pushing through under urgency, which has passed
its first reading to raise the threshold for claims of
sex based pay discrimination. It's pausing unresolved claims which will

affect many workers and save significant government cost. Speaking to
media with other female cabinet ministers, Finance Minister Nicola Willis
says funds will be provided for future claims. She says
changing the pay equity regime is about principles, not cost savings.

What this is about is ensuring that we are clear,
transparent and fear to ensure that we're those claims are made.
They relate to gender based discrimination.

Protesting outside parliament. CTU Secretary Melissa ansel Bridges says this

to square one. She said this is clearly about this
month's budget.
