Good afternoon. I'm Malcolm Jordan and this is your midday
news fix for Tuesday, the ninth of December. An offenders
still at large in East Auckland after two attacks on
a bus last night left one person dead and another
seriously injured. Police say the two unprovoked attacks happened on
the Number seventy six bus traveling from glenn Andis towards Ordacade.

The attacks were about ten minutes apart, with both victims
fleeing from the bus, but one suffering a fatal knife wound.
The offender ran off. Herald reporter Rachel Mayer has been
at the site of one attack. I'm at the intersection
of tunny Fast Street and Fenshirt Street here in glenn
Ennis and there's a large cordon in the area covering
a dairy and a liquor store. The National Dive Squad

has joined searches for a twenty three year old man
who disappeared in a lake near Auckland's Bethel's Beach yesterday evening.
He'd been in waste deep water at Lake Wainamu with
three friends about six pm, but after taking a few
steps further, plunged down and didn't resurface. The police, helicopter,
Search and Rescue and surf lifeguards began searching last night.

Fire crews are on alert as hot weather grips. The
North Island Emergency Services are urgently working to locate two
people who remain unaccounted for following an early morning house
fire in Foxton Beach, and one person's being confirmed dead
following yesterday afternoon's house fire in Auckland's New Lynn. Meanwhile,
conditions look to be favoring crews back fighting flames in

Tongariro National Park, now covering three hundred and twenty two hectares.
Thirty firefighters and four helicopters with monsoon buckets are battling
