(00:00):
Let's do it all right, let'sdo it stage. Welcome to the backstage
with Brook. You're all access pastto music City where nothing is off limits.
Grab a drink, let's go backstage, Chase, Matthew and high Man.
That was a heck of an intro. Wait, this isn't even better
(00:20):
one? Are you ready for this? Dingle? You know I had to
plug it for you. Thank you, Brook, Thank are you? I'm
doing good? Life is good,God is good. And you know the
world is a project. It isa project. Isn't that something. It's
(00:40):
like there's so many good things andthen there's like, what is happening in
the world right now? I justrealized what I said that would probably sound
really cool on a T shirt,Like literally, you know what I mean.
I mean, listen, you justhit up the Marked people. We
can make it happen. Life isgood, God is good. The world
is a project. There you go, Lloyd, you take it notes over
there. Yes, my awesome manager. I am so excited to finally meet
(01:03):
you. We were just talking howwe followed each other on Instagram for a
while. Now it's crazy like wewe've been I feel like we've manifested this
for so long and like finally doingit. You know, it's it's cool
because it's I mean as a drinkime true for real. Yeah, I
mean I've listened to the Midday Showlike many times. Thank you. That
seriously means so much to me.But it's funny too, because I was
(01:23):
telling you before we started rolling.Yeah, you're the first guy on backstage
with Broke White. Yeah, let'sgo. We're here. We're here.
The the the the huge pink lipcouch caught my attention, and then you
know, I'm a black guy.I mean well, I mean like I
wear black and and and the blackcouchs. Like we're all to a great
(01:46):
I like things. I like thecolor black. You know, that was
great. You know I also couldbe a shirt. You know, I'm
a black guy, but I likeblack color. Yeah, okay, all
right, moving on, Oh man, okay, listen. We so I
know who you are. I knowabout you, but I don't know your
(02:06):
story. And I love backstage withBrick because we kind of can dive into
those moments that people on social mediadon't get to see, those who watch
you on stage don't get to see. And I love getting those behind the
scenes moments of just who you areas a person as opposed to just you
as an artist, because there's somuch of Chase, and then like your
music career is just like such ait's a huge piece of you, but
(02:28):
it's just such a small piece ofyour story so far. And I'm excited
to just get to know you.So take me to the beginning. Yeah,
tell me about Chase so well,I guess. First off, so
I was born in Severeville, Tennessee, in Severe County Hospital. I don't
remember it because I was born, but I was there. So I was
(02:49):
like three months old, and myparents moved to Nashville. Yeah, so
my mom and my dad have likekind of always been in music and involved
in me, and that's actually howthey met each other. My uncle,
I believe my uncle was playing drumsfor my dad and his band, and
my uncle introduced my dad to mymom before she became my mom. And
(03:10):
uh so it's kind of cool storybecause my whole families in music. Like
I said, my uncle played thedrums and he actually gave me one of
my first drum sets. And I'vealways just like been around music, like
my whole life, I've always beenaround music. My my, my aunts,
my uncles, my grandma, bothsides of the family, cousins,
(03:30):
I mean, everybody, just abouteverybody. It's literally musically talented. It's
like something you would see on TV. But that's really cool, Like we
probably could have had her own TVshow. But um, I grew up
in church and uh started playing thedrums and the youth band. I always
used to even younger than that,I would like sit behind the organ with
my grandma and she why she'd playman, I call her grandma. But
(03:53):
hey mama, yeah, hey mama, we're watching this. You know we're
on We're backstage with Brooks. Butuh, I would sit, you know,
backstage with her while she played theorgan at church. And so I
always kind of church. A churchplayed a huge huge role in my life.
And faith, you know, playsa huge role in my life as
well. And um so you know, yeah that that happened. Um So,
(04:13):
music is all I've ever known.I remember the first time I kind
of learned everything by ear two becauseI um, I didn't like I had
lessons one time, like guitar lessons. But I couldn't stand like somebody telling
me what to do. You're gotmyself. Really, I was just a
little like badass brats, you knowwhat I mean. And so, which
which kind of turned into uh,it just kind of turned into uh me
(04:38):
dropping out of high school. Um. I went to a lot of different
schools as well. I bounced backand forth between mom and dad's house.
They got divorced when I was likereally young, like three or something.
Um, So, you know,I don't remember a whole lot of that,
which is which is good. Youknow, definitely something that you know,
younger like children, like children shouldn'thave to remember totally totally. Anyways,
(05:00):
that's a whole other topic. Butum, I don't got off topic.
I talk a lot. Oh it'sall right, that's what we're here
to do. It's a podcast exactly. Um. But yeah, so mom
and dad bounced between mom and dad'shouse a lot, went to like ten
different schools, private schools, publicschools, multiple different counties. And I'm
from Nashville technically because I've been heresince I was three months old. But
(05:25):
I'm a Tennessee boy die Hard, and um, you know, I've all
I've ever known. So I lovemusic city and i'm here as as someone
who's from here, who has avery intensive musical family background. Yeah,
do you ever feel like there's justa little bit more pressure on you to
do this? Um? No,not for me at least. Yeah.
(05:46):
I mean some people maybe, likelike let's say, like let's say like
my dad was like somebody's super famousor something, maybe I would feel like
I had to follow those footsteps. But totally it never got to that point.
So really I'm Harry and the Torchfor them, but you know,
right right and uh, and sowhen I say mom and dad were in
(06:08):
music, though they weren't like musicindustry like record deals like they they were
just Dad was kind of like playingon Printer's alley back in the early two
thousands in late nineties, and thenlike Mom did like Broadway shows and Patsy
Kline impersonations like she like did stuffin like Branson, Missouri and um and
like Gatlinberg and stuff like that Pigeonforce. But uh, but yeah, I
(06:29):
mean I feel like there is alot of pressure though of certain things.
Though for me what that was wasin church. So um, we're not
in church, but in ministry. My grandfather and great grandfather and great great
I mean, like it's a generalit's a generational thing of preachers, and
um, they have all, likeall of my family members really have kind
(06:55):
of like led into that footstep ofministry. And so from a age it
was kind of like pushed into methat like that's what I needed to do.
Yeah, And I really didn't likethat because again, I don't like
people telling me what to do.I see a common theme here. Yeah,
So with me, like the pressurewas to follow the footsteps of my
family and ministry, and I neverwanted to like do that because I I
(07:18):
didn't like people telling me what todo. Yeah, And so I kind
of, um, I kind ofwent into this idea of like I guess
rebellion, yeah, and which whichI mean, I feel like we all
went through that phase at one pointsor whatever we went. Mine was like
(07:40):
in my mid twenties hit the rebellionstage. Hard man, I'll tell you
when we when we found out whatwhat beer tasted like, it was something
else. Ye, but uh butyeah, So I mean I always kind
of it started with me like makinglike rap music, like just kind of
like because I didn't really think Icould ever be a singer. And honestly,
(08:00):
I thought it was corny that Iwas a guy that could sing because
I you know, going to tendifferent schools, you when you sang a
little bit, you kind of gotmade fun of here and there, and
they just they just thought you weregoofy and they would use choice words that
I'm not going to mention, butyou know, it was like it's just
one of those things where like it'stough to believe in yourself when you when
you when you care too much aboutwhat other people think. And it took
(08:20):
a long time to get away fromthat, including in ministry. You know,
you got to go on your ownjourney in life. And so yeah,
it kind of brought me round fullcircuit where we're at today, and
and uh, you know, Ikind of make sure. I always want
to make sure that my influences isfor positivity, which is that's what I
stand for. You know, Iain't perfect, but I know I wouldn't
be. So we all love Jesusand cuss a little bit. Yeah I
(08:41):
ain't hell yeah, you know whatI'm saying exactly, But I know I
wouldn't be here without the Lord.So totally. So when you talked about
being you know, growing up andyou're the kid that sings a little bit
and people make fun of you andstuff. Which it's crazy to me how
mean kids are these days, especiallywith like the access of social media.
So, like, I'm thirty five, so like when I grew up,
(09:01):
we didn't have social media, Likewe didn't have cell phones in school.
Like I got my first cell phone. It was the brick Nokia cell phone
when I was like the sophomore inhigh school, right, And like even
then, we didn't really like havephones in class, Like we weren't texting
or anything. Right, But it'slike kids nowadays they see literally everything that
everybody's doing all the time and alwayshave something to say, Like was that
(09:24):
hard for you to just be passionateabout something in a sense and then have
kids have their feelings they felt sometype of way about it. Well,
I was definitely like like my generation. So I'm twenty five and i'll be
twenty six at the end of thisyear, but my generation was like the
first generation of social media. Yeah, I mean, like I was born
(09:46):
in ninety seven, so when Ihit high school, it was like it
was like people went from flip phonesto smartphone, right, And I was
always do they still have the flipphone? Yeah? I mean the flip
phones are though. I ain't gonnalie, man, my little Samsung got
the job done, you know. But uh, but the camera sucked.
Man, it was the worst, those grainy pictures. Yeah. Man,
(10:07):
if I could find that phone, geez. But man, you know there's
memories there too. But yeah, things are so much more accessible nowadays than
ever. And you know, Ihate to ever be that guy that's like,
you know, the the annoying person. It's like the world's going to
shit, you know, that's kindof like that. I hate being that
annoying person. But there's definitely alot of things changing and a lot of
(10:28):
perspectives are different. Man. Itseems like there's a lot more perception is
reality than reality is personal yea.And yeah, social media age, man,
it's definitely changing. But you knowthere's ways to use to utilize it
too. You know, how doyou when you know, I mean,
I know that social media is abig part of who you are too.
(10:48):
Getting onto a platform maybe on aday that you're just like not today,
but you have to, you know, and it's just like today's one of
those Yeah, well you're doing agreat job today chatting with me. Yeah.
Oh we're having we're having a blast. I know that there are there
are like there's always always been thatguy too, Like like at a young
age, I was like, man, I don't ever want to be the
(11:09):
guy that's like stuck with my headin my phone all the time, you
know, like so um, butI kind of found that I have become
that person. So you know,it's just the way of the world nowadays
too, because it's it truly isI mean, especially when it comes to
music, there is no better marketingthan a free video that you can upload
(11:31):
yourself, doesn't cost you money. You know. You know what's crazy too,
is like if there's any advice Icould give anybody that wants to be
of some sort of influence and likemaybe do music for a living or have
a podcast or like, if there'sany advice I could give you, it's
don't sleep on social media, bro. Social media is the only way now.
(11:52):
Like you got to understand that,Like people don't read the newspaper no
more. The newspaper went to digital, you know, Like people don't go
and buy DVDs anymore. People arestreaming people are you know what I'm saying.
And so it's like literally you haveto understand, like everything is digital
now, and if you go outthere and you're and you're trying to sell
(12:13):
CDs, you're not gonna get anywhere, boss, you know what I mean.
People that are out on Broadway likelisten to my broth Okay, yeah,
like come on, but like Ithink you waving a CD, making
a TikTok, you waving a CDis gonna get you more places because people
will laugh at that. Bro,Like, you gotta understand, like there's
so much more opportunity. But therewas a day and a time for that,
(12:33):
you know what I mean. Therewas guerrilla marketing back in the day,
and like and that still works incertain situations. I mean you can
ask Lloyd here, my manager,uh like we literally did this for CMA
and and so I guess what I'mtrying to say is like social media,
I slept on TikTok. Yeah,I slept on it. I was like,
(12:54):
well, I'm just like I'm like, oh, that's so corny.
Like I was like, that's socorny. And then this man right here
goes, hey man, listen, you just recorded this acoustic video sync it
over top of the actual studio audioand post it on TikTok he made the
video, sends it to me andgoes post it. Yeah, Mike,
make come on bro. That's that'sthat's He's like, do it. I
(13:16):
did it. I woke up thenext day overnight seven hundred and fifty thousand
views. And that's priceless. Mysixth video I ever posted on TikTok Ye
sixth video I had eight thousand followers, six sixth video. Yeah, seven
hundred and fifty thousand views. That'sawesome. And then not only did the
(13:37):
video go viral, but the soundwent viral, and then people are using
it. Then other more people arehearing it. Next thing, you know,
it's like everybody's like, where's thesong? What is going on?
And then we're over here like,oh shit, like we gotta put this
out, Like how do we keepthese people's attention? So we kept teasing
the sound and kept teasing the sound, and then other people started using.
Next thing, I know, wehad as now Gold Records. That's amazing.
(14:01):
So it's it's just crazy, man. And you know there's a lot
of people that also say, likeTikTok artist, Oh that's a TikTok artist.
I hate that man. I can'twait till people stop saying that ship
because the thing is, man,TikTok artist is an artist now, Like
that's what people don't understand. Butand it's just like it's no different than
(14:22):
somebody going on a radio show andplaying their songs or going on an interview
on the TV and playing their song. It's just a new way to reach
people. That's a new media outlet. That literally is it. And I
am with you because I get frustratedwith that for you and for other artists
as well, because it's almost likepeople are trying to hurt your feelings and
be like, well they're not real, and it's just like trying to degrade
(14:43):
you. But it's like, wellwhat do you do? Like what are
you doing to achieve your dreams?Just are you selling those CDs out there?
Or is that you are? You'rethat guy? Yeah? Oh man?
You know well I can't wait forthat moment for you too, because
I mean, you know that especiallywith iHeart, like we're huge fans of
you and we know that you're notjust a TikTok and you know what that's
(15:03):
so I'm glad to hear you saythat because and I don't consider myself that
either, And I don't think alot of people do. But I've heard
it, you know, used thisleverage for other people. And right,
what I think is really cool aboutwhat we've done over here, And I
hold a lot of pride in myteam and what we have done together because
my team works so hard and we'reso dedicated to a project, we don't
get distracted. What I think isreally cool about us is the translation.
(15:26):
So like the numbers, like theviews, right, it's not just TikTok
like it's translated into YouTube and otherplatforms and translated into ticket sales. Yes,
I mean these people are coming toshows, they're spending money and buying
merch and and and they're a partof it. And there's people that have
been here since the beginning and Ijust owe those people so much. Man,
(15:46):
huge props to everybody who's support themin since day one. And we're
backstage with I know, I waslike a little fun backstage moment. So
my husband, Andrew works in merchandisefor different country artists, so he like
does merch for them, right, and so he wait wait wait wait wait
wait, and so andrews your husbandmy husband? Yeah, wait, I
was just putting this together. Imean, we were talking about Andrew,
(16:06):
but I didn't know Andrew was yourhusband. Yeah, so he's my husband.
And he was like, um,go Andrew, Hey, are you
saying he out kicked his coverage?I'm saying Andrew's the man? All right?
Yeah, Andrew is the man.Okay, So Andrew. Fun fact,
he did a show. I thinkit was a Weekend with you.
He was filling in for someone andhe was just like, Yo, these
fans are out here like they're buyinglike two three hundred dollars worth of merch
(16:30):
He was just like, this iscrazy because he had, you know,
he's kind of stepped into the merchantlike merch for a different artist. And
he was just like, I thesethese people are awesome. Like they they're
passionate, passionate fans. So Ilove that you say it's like translated into
ticket sales, it's translating into merchandisesales. It's it's happening. Yeah,
(16:51):
they're I mean, the fans aredie hard. And I love my fans
and they know I love them too. You know, if you know,
if you need to know anything aboutme and my fans and how much I
love them. I've never turned thepicture down. That's what's up. If
I hear somebody sell you say,if I hear it with my own two
weirds, I don't care. IfI'm gonnacross the parking lot, can I
get a picture, Chase, I'mgonna have to stop doing whatever I'm doing
(17:12):
to make my way over there. If there's a hundred people and I don't
have a chance to get to you, then you know what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna take the picture with I'mgonna post it on my story so
they can screenshot at group photo. You know what I mean. I will
never I cannot live knowing that Iturned someone away. I don't care how
busy I am, you know,I mean those people change my life.
Yeah, it's a testament to youand how grateful you are for people taking
(17:32):
the time out of their day orspending their own money on their paycheck to
come see you. So I thinkthat's such a special gift that I hope
you continue to carry with you becausethank you. Not a lot of people
do that. And I know it'shard, and it will get harder as
time it is, you know itis, But you know, like it's
what I signed up for. AndI think what made me that way really,
And I don't want to say whothis person is, and I won't
(17:56):
because because as you never know whatthat person was dealing with. But there
was an artist that I spent myheart earned money to go see. Yeah,
and uh, I don't normally dothat. And this was you know,
this was probably like twenty nineteen anduh, me and my girlfriend went
at the time, went to gosee this artist. And they like were
from me to you and like, had every chance to take this picture.
(18:18):
And I was just like, hey, man, like, I don't want
to bug you. Can I justget a photo real fast? Like I
turned my phone around like this, and they were like, hey man,
I'm not I don't want to photosright now, you know, just like
coach Tami a little bit. Iwas like, whoa. I think that
taught me. Yeah, don't everbe like that. Well, And I
think that there will be moments inyour life where God will place people there
for a reason, you know, like maybe a learning lesson. Yeah,
(18:40):
just a little lesson. Maybe itwasn't for you to like not like that
person as much, but it wasGod being like I'm gonna place this in
your heart so you can have adifferent experience and your fans can have that
experience with you and not feel thatway. Yeah, and you know it's
it's every everything happens for a reason, and you hit the nail on the
head right there, that's for sure. So when you're talking about the pressure
of like doing ministry and things likethat, did you ever at one point
(19:03):
and be like, wow, Ithink I might have disappointed my family not
going that way. Yes. Yeah, um, there was a time where
I was and was sorry. Itwas at the really the beginning. It
was like one of my first showsi'd ever done full band, and I
went to one of my pastors andI was like, hey, man,
(19:25):
um, you know I I've beenfeeling guilty a lot lately and he's like,
what do you mean. I waslike, well, I've been,
you know, going to the barand drinking a little bit and partying a
little harder than I should and makingdecisions that I know aren't good. And
he said, well, man,are you making people smile? Like are
you? And it's always like Ifeel like I'm making music that's that's secular.
I don't know if it yeah, you know, if it would please
(19:48):
you know, the Kingdom of God. And uh. He's like, well,
as long as you ain't doing anythingto hurt nobody. And I can't
remember that. I want to makesure I word it the right way because
as I don't want to speak youknow, I don't want to I want
I don't want to sound blasphemous whenI say this. Um in a way,
he was just like, man, listen, dude, like Jesus partied
(20:08):
with the sinners and you can't reacheverybody from the bulpit and uh. And
that stuck with me. And thenhe told me he was He said,
man, you know, you mightdrink a few beers here and there,
but sometimes you got to drink abeer to save a life. And I
was like, man, that's crazy, Like I never thought about it like
that. I don't know, likeand it kind of gives me. I
(20:30):
was, yeah, And so Ithink from that moment forward, I started
looking at everything like, hey, like if if Jesus will leave the ninety
nine for the one, like ifit makes a difference of one person,
you know, I mean I justlearned last Sunday about about Noah and Noah's
(20:51):
Ark, and like my pastor wastalking about it, and uh, how
Noah, just one person. Noahchanged the outlook on God either wiping out
mankind or him you know, grabbingall these animals, putting him on a
boat and restarting mankind, you knowwhat I mean. And it's just like
one person can make a difference. And if I impact one person, and
(21:11):
it makes it worth at all.And that's my kind of going to church,
you know. Well, And Ithink that that's so important to touch
on too, because I feel likea lot of people think that to be
a Christian you have to have thisimage of you have to uphold this image
of perfect and whatever. But kindof like you said, you know,
(21:33):
Jesus hung out with the bad ones. Like Jesus was like, I'm going
to reach people by being with thepeople, because you know, you are
going to have the people who arein church every Sunday that are living life,
not drinking, they don't cuss, you know. And while there are
real people like that, but there'salso people like you and me who like
(21:53):
to go out and have a littlefun. Oh yeah, you know,
you like to go have a drink, You cuss a little bit, you
know, you listen to whatever youwant to listen in too, but being
a bright light in the industry bybeing a I don't want to say normal
person, but by being someone thatpeople can relate to. Yeah, I
think that's so important. And Ithink there's more broken people in the world
right now than people that are contentwith their own life when people feel like
(22:15):
I feel like that's why. That'swhy jellyroll is working so well, man,
And because it's genuine and he hasa real story on how God changed
his life. Yeah. I don'tknow how much you know about it,
but um, and I don't knowall the details, but I do know
this God is real, yes,and he doesn't put people in influence for
just any old reason, you know. And I know that success is brought
(22:40):
on by hard work, but it'salso brought on by blessings, and when
you give God the glory, he'llput you right where you're supposed to be.
Yeah. I talk about that allthe time, you know. Um,
I forgot I was gonna say.I got off topic there for a
second. But I'm proud of jellyRoll man. He is. It's it's
really cool to be in music citywatching him have this like crazy success because
(23:02):
he really I mean if you takea look at just his life and the
redemption God has given him from it, It's like, you know, God
can use anybody, right, youknow what I mean? And it doesn't
have to be somebody who has thepicturesque perfect life. He's gonna use somebody
who was incarcerated doing things he wasn'tsupposed to, gonna save him in jail,
(23:25):
gonna get out of jail and freakingput out a record and just absolutely
just like blow the entire world away. Yeah, the man is definitely walking
and in faith and like putting outso much hope into the world. And
I and I there's there's no waythat anybody could not respect that like that
is that is amazing and that's somethingthat I look up to so much in
(23:48):
that guy as well. So Jelly, if you're watching this a Chase Jelly
collab in the in the future, dope, maybe maybe I love. I
was just with him last week andwe did a show in Iowa, and
he's just awesome. He's Teddy Beardude. That dude just always walking around
with a smile and loves everybody thatyou give that guy a microphone too.
Who the crowd's gonna go nuts bro. He'll make you laugh too that he's
(24:12):
funny. He's just really funny. He is one of the best. And
I'm just so happy that you kindof get to walk a line of redemption
too. Like you said, youfelt like you let people down not walking
into ministry, but you really areliving out your own type of ministry doing
what you're doing. You've got amicrophone, you've got a platform. Yeah,
And that's the thing too, islike, is when you when you
(24:34):
like I would beat myself up somuch. I'd beat myself up so much
because like I didn't understand why myfamily didn't understand that that isn't what I
wanted to do. And then ittook them a while to understand, like,
Okay, I see what the visionis. And like I didn't even
know what the vision was at thetime, and so I kind of had
to find my calling in my ownway. And to anybody that's out there
(24:56):
wondering what you're calling is man, just trust God. Man. And a
lot of people walk in that thatwe walk in that light of like,
oh I trust God, huh, yeah, I pray him. Yeah,
I bound my head before I eatand and it's it's so much more than
that though. It's like it's areal relationship, man, It's yeah,
(25:18):
and it's like you gotta I actuallyhad this conversation with somebody last night and
it was I'm trying to remember theexact example I used, but it was
like, if somebody put a gunto my head and said, Chase convert
to whatever. Yeah, I'll behonest, man, I would. They
would have to shoot me. Andand the thing is a lot of people
(25:40):
are like, ah, nah, bro, you would definitely you don't want
to die, you would definitely sissyout. Well, let me tell you
this. I trust God so much, and this is how much you gotta
trust God. I trust God somuch that that gun would jam ye or
something else would happen. And youknow what if I did get shot,
I'm going to heaven see up hey, bro, you know what I'm saying.
(26:03):
I'll see y'all up in the sky. You feel me. Yeah,
I'm gone, You're gone, I'mgone. Yeah, I mean get to
go home a little sooner, youknow. Well. And I always think
about it too, Like I don'tknow if you've, ever, like as
a Christian, had those thoughts whereyou're like, what is heaven? Like
because you read about it, youhear about it, and you're like,
is heaven? You know there's goldeverywhere? Like what are we? Are
(26:23):
we eating Chick fil A? Likeeat chick Yeah, I'm gonna get some
Kobe Jack cheese on that one. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. Yeah,
we get up in there and wegot we got everybody up in there.
Peter over there, you know, hey, man, I wants to
waffle fries. That guy's that yougot Polynesian up in there, Like there
(26:44):
has to be there has to beatChick fil A in heaven. Yeah,
I thought we finally know where theChick fil A sauce comes from and it's
like made in Heaven, like Noah'smaking it. Yeah, yeah, they're
they're over there in the tabernacle likewhipping it up. You know, Oh
what what would you? I forgotwhat you It was something we were just
talking about, like heaven and likedo you what do you think? Do
you ever just think about what it'slike? Okay, So I have a
(27:06):
crazy story, right, Okay,So me and some buddies were up in
Gatlinberg one time, and uh,we were writing some music, kind of
kicking it, kind of having somefun medicating a little bit right, you
know, kicking it and uh,I had this really wild come to Jesus
moment okay about heaven. So Iwas listening to this song that I hadn't
released yet, and it kind oflike it spooked me because I like went
(27:32):
into this like days of like dreaming, like and I was just like kind
of imagining what the music video wouldlook like. Yeah, and it was
like it was like we were reenacting what it would look like walking into
heaven. And then I started wondering. I was like, so what would
it be like? Like what wouldyou see like when you die? Like
what what do you see? What'sthe first thing you see? And I
(27:53):
guess, Okay, So there's somuch more to this and and it and
it gets really deep. I'm herefor and if you're ready for it,
I'm ready. I'm ready for it. In twenty seventeen, it was a
really rough here for me. Um, just just to make it fast and
sweet. Um, my best frienddied. He was murdered in twenty seventeen.
He died at age eighteen and oneof the greatest people I've ever known,
(28:15):
one of my best friends since dayone. Grew up with them in
church, red foilers, with himturn into a redneck with that guy,
and um, and I had hada dream at one point that I talked
to him wow. And I wokeup the next morning and and I have
only told like four people this story, so I'm gonna get in depth.
And it sounds crazy, but thisreally happened. Um. I was really
(28:38):
like kind of tore up about whathad happened because the investigation was still going
on and I still trying to figureout like what had happened. And uh,
you know, man, I hopeeverybody finds God. So I'm not
gonna wish anything baud on the peoplethat took his life. But I needed
closure and I got it. Yeah, And it was when I least expected
it. I had just Uh,I was I've lent in a few things
(29:00):
and you know, ingesting a fewthings that were not good for me.
I ended up on my my mom'scouch, broke his hell. And I
had this dream. It was Iwas standing in the driveway of my friend.
His name was A mod I wasstanding in his parents driveway and I
(29:21):
got a phone call and this wasall in a dream, And I got
a phone call and boom, itwas his phone number, and in the
dream, I was at his parentshouse. I knew I was at his
parents house and that I was therewalking around the yard just kind of like
pacing because we were still all morningfrom this and it was fresh. It
was probably about six months in.I answered it, like, hello,
(29:41):
you know, say, came in. What's going on? I knew immediately.
I was like, bro, Ilooked down and it was his phone
number. I was like, whatthe heck? And it's still this is
a dream. Like I'm like,I'm like, okay, Like this feels
too real to be like, I'venever had one of these dreams. I've
never had one of those really realdreams. And you know, how's my
mom doing? How's everybody? I'mlike, man, they're hanging in there,
(30:02):
but it's you know, it's tough. And and he told me he's
like, well, man, justkeeping on my little brother and sister.
And I remember so distinctly. Inthe background, I'm asking him, I'm
like, hey, man, youknow, like where are you, like
how are you? Like, areyou okay? Like did you And I
asked him did you make it toheaven? And he could not answer me.
All he could say what was you'llfind out when you get here.
(30:26):
What do you mean you'll find outwhen I get there? You'll find out
when you get here. Man.The whole time, distinctly in the background,
I kept hearing like power tools, like like sauls, like like drills
and like you know, impacts, and I'm like, what is Like I'm
thinking to myself, like, man, this man didn't die. He he
overy like kind of wood palace forthe fire tonight, like like what is
(30:48):
going on? You know. I'mI'm like in my dream. I'm it's
so real, and I'm standing inthe driveway staring at the house that his
family lives in and just like listeningto his voice and uh, He's just
like, man, all right, well I gotta I gotta go. And
I was like, all right, man called back whenever and it was like
right then and there, like hetold me like like I'm all right,
Like I'm good. You'll find outwhen you get here, and I'll never
(31:10):
forget waking up and not remembering it. Wow. So I woke up and
I'm and I'm and I'm in mypj's and I'm in my mom's apartment.
It's been sleeping on her couch becauseI'm broke as hell, done done,
borderline, lost my job. I'mtrying to, you know, quit dabbling
and things that I shouldn't be.I opened up my laptop, and I've
(31:30):
always kind of been hands on on, like teaching myself how to record music.
I was working on a song thatI wrote about him. I don't
remember which one it was, butbecause I wrote a lot of songs about
him, that's the only way Ifelt like I could I could vent was
through music, which problem here. But um immediately when I played the song,
it was just talking about the waywe grew up, and then I
remembered Boom the dream Wow, andI just absolutely lost it. I called
(31:56):
his mom. His mom wouldn't answerthe phone. She called me back like
thirty minutes later. I mean Iwas calling everybody. I was calling my
mom, was calling my dad,and I was like, listen, I
I talked to a mod. Yeah, He's like, I'm telling you,
like you gotta believe me, likeyou like you like you like you have
to believe me, like I'm tellingyou, like please believe like I'm not
crazy, like I'm not high,like I'm like I know, like I've
got this, but but trust me, like I'm not, I'm he's he's
(32:21):
he's good, he's fine, he'sin and and and the whole time I'm
telling his mom this on the phone, I'm like please, like like I'm
telling you, like he's okay,Like we don't have to worry anymore,
Like he's good, like anything passes, he's good. He's good. He's
good. I'm telling you he's good. And she's like, Chase, like
yes, She's like, I believeyou. She's like, I believe you.
And you know why, I said, why is that she said I
had the same dream when I lostmy best friend. Are you serious?
(32:43):
And and we we should ask herabout that one day because I'd love for
her to say it the way sheexactly said it, because I you know,
I want to make sure we're accuratehere. But she told me right
there, She's like, I believeyou because she had a friend that passed
away. It's a very similar things, I believe And she had a dream
where her friend called her on thephone and dream and basically the same thing
(33:07):
happened. However, the only thingthat was different was the power tools in
the background. Right, Yeah,So I'm here, I'm still hearing all
these power tools, and I'm tryingto figure out why the hell am I
hearing all these Why? Why didI like weird? Right? The only
thing I could put together was thetabernacle. And and I may be completely
(33:29):
wrong in scripture about this, butthe only thing I could put together was
like, when we die our souls. All we know as a soul is
a human body, and as ahuman body is to work to earn towards
something right. Is maybe maybe inorder to work our way into heaven and
maybe not work our way in maybethat's not the right phrasing, but is
(33:49):
to go build that tabernacle. Maybehe can't tell me until he gets there
because he's building the tabernacle, youknow, he's working hard and and and
you know, I don't I don'tlike guy is going to spare people that
have a good heart, you know. And I just know for a fact,
now that I know that he wouldn'tbe he wouldn't be ringing my phone
from six five h E L L. Yeah, the landlines don't work down
(34:15):
there, Bubba, you know whatI mean? And so, wow,
that's a crazy story. So Ihad all the closure I needed after that
how to get back to what wewere talking about heaven, because I know
we got off off topic. Sothat dream happened in two thousand and seventeen,
I believe eighteen eighteen. It waslike right at the beginning of twenty
and eighteen, I had this thisthis happened, this whole Catlinberg trip that
(34:36):
I'm talking about. We went outto East Tennessee. I was writing some
songs. You know, we're smokinga little bit, kicking it, and
uh, I just had this crazything of like this song that I wrote
a long time ago, and howI was talking about heaven and I was
like, so what would the musicvideo look like? Yeah, and then
I started thinking about I went downthis whole rabbit hole of these Dagon power
(34:58):
tools and so I'm thinking that thepower tools was like you know, him
working into the Tabernac or whatever. And so anyways, I went down this
rabbit hole of like in this visionof like what heaven would look like.
And it's so funny. So inmy in my vision I'm having because I'm
I'm stoned, the gates opened andthere's a skill soul just laying under ground.
(35:21):
Yes, I don't know man,it's that's a whole lot for for
nothing. But it was really aboutthe dream. I mean that's incredible though,
that you know, you get thatclosure you need, because I feel
like so many people don't get thatclosure. So it's really a blessing that
he's able to. Yeah, like, man, I'm good, I'm here,
I'm good. God's got my back. It's crazy because it's like I
know that, Uh, I knowthat. I definitely thought of so many
(35:44):
ways of you know, how toget back, how do how do I
have revenged? You know? Howdo I get back at these people?
And and I I will never forgetjust that release of like I don't got
to worry anymore. I don't evencare anymore. We're good, Like he's
straight, Like he's good, Likeit's good. So I walk around with
this this tattoo, I'm arm andso it says a mod it's in a
(36:05):
Ford emblom. He was a bigFord guy and so I got it in
the Ford funt. And that's him. He walks from me every day.
I asked, my boy, everynight I'll sing on stage, I grab
it like this and you know, give him that salute. So my best
friend I'll see him sing. Yeah, it's funny because somebody I had a
friend who is dealing with a lossof a friend as well, and she
(36:27):
was comforted by her husband. Hesaid something along the lines of, like,
you know, twelve years in heavenor forty years in heaven is like
forty five minutes, So like yourfriend is going to see you tonight,
Like that's how you know what Imean. So it's just like a mod's
gonna see you tonight, and hislike the way he's living in And I
was just like, that's such acomforting way to think about it, because
it's not like he's he's literally preparingthe table for you to get there right
(36:49):
now. You know, it's crazy. I'm already hungry, you know what
I mean. Yeah, we getthere, dude, yo, yoh,
what if we show up to heaven, bro and it's a chick a big
old play to like five hundred chickennuggets, you know, the big old
thing when you get it catering younot as good man good, I mean
some rants and some barbecue. Okay, we do have to talk about this
(37:14):
album. I mean, you're freshoff the press with this bad boy,
Come get your memory insane putting thistogether and sort of you know, making
it happen. Was this just sucha cool thing to work on for you,
as you know, someone who's youdidn't know if music was what you're
gonna do. It happened, you'redoing it. You decided not to do
to finish school, and you're justlike, Okay, let's let's make this
(37:35):
happen. Like you said, you'reliving on the couch with your mom,
You're you're going through the trenches.Well it goes all the way back.
Yeah, well the album like, but it goes all the way back.
It was like since I was akid. I remember the first time that
I ever found like by ear That'swhat I was going to say earlier.
So I was talking about like havingguitar listens, and I remember the first
time I could I found like thepitch and I was listening to a handsome
(37:55):
song. Do you remember handsome? And so it's just two chords. It's
like hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yeahm So I went backand forth and I'll never forget finding those
two keys at like the age ofsix, Like oh and I just dude,
I was beating the crap out ofthese things, just grooving like,
hey, I'm playing along enough. So I always knew there was something different
(38:15):
about me, right, but Iran from it because I didn't believe in
myself, right, And so believingin yourself is a huge thing, and
it's kind of turned into this thiswith this new album. There's a couple
of songs in there too that totalk about believing in yourself, and one
of those is saw Me Here, and it talks about how I didn't and
it was like, how I didn'tbelieve in myself and I saw myself playing
(38:37):
at these die bars, like Isaw myself playing for tips and cheap cold
beer, but I never saw mehere. Yeah, you know. He
talks about me having a tenth gradeteacher. It told me to just drop
out one day you'll see nothing's allyou'll be with the last words out of
her mouth, like that's that's thefirst lyrics. And it's like, and
I also had a tenth grade teacher. Shout out to mister McLoughlin, my
chorus teacher, awesome guy, anduh man, he he tried to save
(39:00):
me too. He's like, don'tdrop out, r don't drove out and
uh, which I should have listenedto him, and it was a bad
decision to drop out, But um, the album. Yes, let's get
back to the album. Everything ledup to here, and this is the
biggest album I've ever put out,the biggest project I've ever put out.
I have a awesome, awesome, awesome team of collaborators that were on this
(39:23):
project, and one of those peoplespecifically was like Taylor Phillips, and he
changed my outlook on cutting outside songs. I've always been like really stubborn on
cutting songs that I didn't write andand I didn't understand that. Like how
it kind of started for me wasI was in this Writer's Round like event
(39:46):
downtown and I walked in and therewas this guy playing this song called Hey
Montana and immediately caught my attention.I wasn't even supposed to be there.
I was like just passing through withsome friends, and I was like,
hey, man, that song isreally good. And then me and him
out a conversation one day, meand Lloyd about, you know, if
(40:06):
we ever wanted to cut an outsidesong. I said, man, if
I did have to be a hit, He's like, well, you got
anything in mind? I said, there's this song that I heard it the
writer's around called hey, Montana. We were in Chicago, right, we're
in Indianapolis. Yeah, we're inIndianapolis. And I played him the song.
He's like, Yo, this isa good song. I was like,
man, I you know, I'vekind of feel the same way,
like till we reach out to thisguy. His name was Kyle Winsky,
(40:28):
and so shout out to Kyle.He let me cut the song and it's
been a really good one. TaylorPhillips came out, pitched me a couple
of songs. We sat down,we wrote Love You Again together. I
Love You Again with Casey Brown andTaylor, and man, that song has
just become something crazy. The album'sgot twenty five records on It started with
eighteen. Next thing I know,we were adding two here too there,
(40:50):
and all of a sudden we endup with twenty five because we couldn't settle.
You shouldn't have to settle. Ifeel like at this point in music,
having your album wrapped in a littlebow of like you know the however,
you know ten eleven, twelve songsthat they want you to have,
It's like, listen, if youwant to put twenty five songs on an
album, do it well, andpeople are consuming music more than ever today.
(41:13):
Yes, you know, you gotto give the fans what they want.
And if you don't feed the flockman, they're gonna go somewhere else.
That's a fact, you know.I want to give the people what
they want, and we're gonna bedropping a bunch of music videos to you.
And heck, we're even talking aboutmaybe doing something around Christmas time.
So Christmas music. I don't know. I'm not a big fan, but
we might. We might do itif I find the right one, you
(41:36):
know. Yeah, I'm really I'mreally into the Uh yeah, no,
no, I'm not gonna try becauseit would sound terrible, but yeah,
could you imagine my voice would havejust cracked? That would have been I
mean, it would have been backstage. I definitely would have had to choose
a different song after that. I'llsay to jingle Bells, jingle Bells,
(41:57):
let's make a trap version of that, you know what I mean. It'd
be fun. Oh, that wouldbe awesome. I am so happy to
have gone to sit down and chatwith you about just life and everything.
I'm excited for what's to come foryou. I'm excited for this song,
right here. I'm telling you you'redoing some special things here in the industry,
(42:22):
and it's just going to continue togo up for you. So I'm
excited that we got to hang outfor a little bit. And this isn't
going to be your last time onbackstage with Brook. Well have you back.
We'll have you. We'll get downand dirty to some more stuff.
But absolutely we do one little lastthing here on the podcast to end.
There's a gumball machine right here. This is your last question of the day
right there on the end, andthe yep yep, these are just little
(42:43):
are you playing at this one?Because because you didn't even give me the
quarter, it's gotta be good.Well, okay, so the things don't
fit down, I just have totake one out and put it. So,
yeah, weller up the mind, you know, I honestly don't know
what it says. This is AAon the top of the cap. So
we're going to class, all right. I was like, are we talking
about alcoholics? All right? Allhere we go. Here we go,
(43:05):
pop er open, let's see whatit is. Okay we go. Everybody
has trouble opening up these bad boys? All right, here we go here,
this here, this here, itis. What's your go to cocktail?
Vodka Red Bull? If I'm tired, uh, Jack Daniels. If
I'm just trying to kick it andrelax and uh, Tito's straight, just
give me the bottle. If I'mtrying to fight, all right, yeah,
all right, well I'm not gonnafight with you. I'm never gonna
(43:27):
drink vodka vodka like if if yougive me too much vodka bro like,
if I don't have like the RedBull, like keeps me hyping like happy,
man, you give me vodka straightman, We're going to box,
all right, all right, It'shappened too many times for me to not
think it was because of something else. Well, next time you're in studio,
I'll make sure to have some JackDaniels for your home. Yeah,
hey, Jack Daniels are like, even, uh, what's that? What's
(43:49):
that bourbon? I tried the otherday? It was it was gas.
It was good. I can't remember, but yeah, I was like,
my husband has all of the goodwhiskey bourbons. He's he's that guy.
So I'll just I'll say, dipinto his collection the next time. Yeah,
studio, and make sure to havesome for you, dude. Do
you know who b J Hill is. He's he's over at uh at Warner
Chapel Publishing. Oh I know whoBJ? Yeah? Well, so BJ
(44:14):
is like, and I swear toyou I'm not joking. Well, there's
a little bar inside of of ofWarner Chout for the riders. Just hang
out and kick it, man,Bjo, shout out BJ, because BJ
be making the I don't know whathe does in his free time, bro,
but he'd be whipping them drinks up. He the other day, he
gave me a vodka red Bull.Huh yeah, yeah, Like he's a
(44:35):
different kind of mixed engineer, ifyou know what I'm saying. This dude
gave me a vodka red Bull withthe blueberry red bull, right, and
then put the little orange thing onthe little dried orange on the top.
Yo. That thing was blessed, you know what I mean, blessed by
BJ. He knew a little stickor blessed by BJ on napkin, you
know what I mean? Like, does here you go crazy? I mean,
(44:58):
listen those bartenders axologists, you canreally create some pretty cool things.
Oh yeah, how to do it? Oh yeah, how they like be
making like the fire rings and stuff. Yeah, I get. I'll bring
you some homemade mood shine. Oneday, I'll show you. I'll show
you some good dreams. Let's go, all right, we'll chase so good
to Ceo. Hey. One morething. I know I talk a lot
for everybody watching. I always alwayssay this. I always say this anytime
(45:20):
I can reach people. Believing yourself, chase your dreams. And I know
a lot of people say that, but man, every step in Stone is
a step in the right direction.Believing yourself, trust God's plan. Thank
you Brook for having me. Ofcourse God did this. That's that's what's
up. That is so true.Amen to that. Thank you. You're welcome.
