Hunter James and Patsy Danube are invited into the Strike home, getting cleaned up and fed while Alan Strike and his wife Bet tell their side of the story and the deal they made with Reverend Lowe.

Hunter James finds himself clinging to the side of a ledge, uncertain of what will happen next. He has no idea what has happen to his friend Patsy Danube, nor who it was that is trying to kill them.

Soon to be Police Chief Patsy Danube fills in Hunter James concerning the death of Pastor Lowe and they decide to visit Alan Strike at his ranch. They run into a bit of a car problem and don't make it to the ranch.

Hunter James drops in at the local police station to see his old colleague Patsy Danube and gets the low down on preacher Lowe finding out what might be behind the preacher's untimely death. 

Hunter James receives an invitation from an old associate who is about to be promoted to Chief of Police and he invites George Baily, (Wings) along for a quick vacation. The new Chief asks Hunter to consult on a strange case. Murder or homicide?

Hunter James sits down with Mike Regan at The Port of Call to recap the case. Finishes the day giving Chef Donna Knight and Rachel Gonzalez his final report before gifting Wings with a new tent.

Hunter James and Wings bring all the players together to reveal how and why Mr. Gonzalez and Hannah were killed and detain the murderer until the police arrive.

Hunter James and Wings have breakfast at the Lane Breeze Inn before finding Hannah, the missing maid. Hunter James questions Ida Lane concerning Unity Gonzalez's involvement. Then he tracks down Rachel Gonzalez.

Hunter James continues his search at the Lane Breeze Inn and is joined by a homeless man looking to trade work for a meal, Wings. Both men settle in to their respective roles before the night really heats up.

Hunter James heads north to the Gonzalez horse ranch to begin his investigation into the maid's disappearance. After dropping his luggage, Hunter heads off to the Bed and Breakfast that Chef Donna Knight had steered him to.

Realizing he wasn't getting the complete picture Hunter James enlist the help of 'Wings' for some below the radar investigating. A phone conversation with Chef Knight and another with Yves Dawson are both illuminating.

Hunter James has a conversation with Rachel Gonzalez who wants to insert herself into his search for the missing maid, Hannah. Rachel reveals some information about a possible location in Alabama.

Hunter James speaks with Chef Donna Knight and examines the scene of Mr. Gonzalez's murder and the servants' quarters, and finds Unity and Rachel Gonzalez having a very incriminating poolside conversation. 

Hunter James is introduced to his client, Chef Donna Knight, and begins to glean some information about Hannah the missing maid, and some interesting information surrounding the death of Mr. Gonzalez.

Hunter goes to the Gonzalez mansion on Pensacola Beach to help him decide if he really wants to take a missing person's case.

Hunter talks with Mike about taking a case to find a missing maid. The maid worked at a 'fancy house' on Pensacola Beach. Hunter begins his research and discovers that it isn't just a fancy house; it is THE fancy house on Pensacola Beach and the scene of a murder. He believes the missing maid is dead.

Mike's employee wants to talk to Hunter about a maid who went missing from a house where his Aunt works as a chef. The maid went missing at the same time the house's owner died. The Aunt thinks he was murdered, and the police aren't too concerned about the maid. Mike is less than thrilled but calls Hunter because the Aunt will pay.

Hunter's friends, enemies, and business associates discuss Hunter's behavior during the past few days.  

Hunter James is going to attempt to rescue Wings and get this case finally resolved
