(00:16):
And welcome to backstage pass. Iam Austin James, and we're very lucky
to talk with a whole bunch ofgreat people from the l s U.
Block and Bridle Rodeo. And we'regoing to be talking about the rodeo,
the history of what Block and Bridlehas done for the community, the different
charity events that they have been participatingin, all the all the years that
(00:38):
the rodeo has been in existence, and we may talk about some surprises during
the event, who knows. Butwe've got some guests in the studio.
They are Andrew Seth and Jackson, and they're going to be talking about the
rodeo and their actual roles in theevent. All right, how about you,
Well, what's what's the deal? What are you going to be doing
(01:00):
in the rodeo. Well, I'mprobably going to be down there in the
arena with our rodeo manager. We'regoing to be putting on the events,
calling out names for people who's ridingbulls, bronx, doing all the kinds
of events and just keeping everything goingsmoothly. We're talking with Jackson right there
now. Jackson, I'm sure you'vebeen told that you look like a rodeo
guy, you got the mustache partand everything else. I try. You
(01:22):
know, it's a good look tohave. How long have you been involved
in rodeos? Well, honestly,I haven't been involved in rodeos that long.
I just started in college whenever Ijoined Block and Bridle. Yes,
they're and that's kind of where everythingstarts. Why'd you join it? It
(01:42):
promotes a lot of Block and Bridlepromotes a lot of good things, a
lot of brotherhood and learning about animalscience and animal husbandry, which is something
that like a lot of colleges don'thave. It was just a good Is
animal science your major? Yes?Sir? Oh okay, good? Now
let's move over to south. He'sin the middle. Stuck in the middle
with you, Uh, Seth? What about you? What's your role in
(02:06):
the rodeo in the event? Soall three of us are on our radio
committee for the club, so wehave a whole bunch of responsibility. Specifically,
I know I'll be helping with registrationonce we get there, and then
I'm the treasure for the organization aswell, so I'll be doing some more
backstage stuff, managing the money, writing checks to the winners of the events.
Writing checks to our stock contractor whoprovides all the animals. We have
(02:27):
vendors there. We sell merchandise. We have T shirts, hats, a
couple other stuff. We do silentauction. So kind of just mentioning all
the money aspects of it. Andrew, how about you man? Uh,
I'm gonna be helping with organization ofall the stations for members to work at
and make sure everyone's getting where theyneed to go and helping everyone get settled
in with the rodeo, make themfeel right at home. Okay, So
(02:47):
you guys aren't going to be writing, You're just going to be in the
background with the quote unquote business section. We were going, we were finding
out doing one event. It's calledWild Calum Milk and it's on the student
nights. On the open night, they do more of the traditional rodeo events,
a lot of roping, rough stockgriying, but on open night,
I mean on student Night, whichI do a couple more fun events.
So for a Wild Cow Milk andit's three man team and Jackson is gonna
(03:10):
he's gonna, we're all gonna bein the arena. He's gonna get his
rope, he's gonna have to lastof a cow. We're gonna have to
We're gonna have to tackle it andthen pull the tail here and run back
across the arena and compete in againstprobably two or three other teams all in
the arena at the same time. That's great, man, That's the one
event we're looking at right now.So what's the date of the of the
rodeo. It'll be November third andfourth. It's a Friday and a Saturday.
(03:35):
Yeah, And how much does itcost to get in? Five bucks
for any college student, eight bucksfor general admission and kids five and under
three? Yeah, I think yeah, it's it's a good family event.
I've been to it many many times. Uh. It's at the John and
Parker Collinseum Bright the Old Cow Palace. Yeah, and yeah that I mean
(03:57):
that's a perfect setting for the forthe road. It really is. It's
a great event. Now, youguys are always involved. When I say
you guys, I mean Block andBridle have always been involved in charity events.
What's what's the main focus on thisone? So this, Uh,
for this rodeo, we're mainly helpingout the cancer services of Baton Rouge and
(04:17):
specifically with the kids, the ChildCancer Services. That's where all all of
our proceeds. We're going to takea percentage of that and give it to
them. From admissions from people whoare paying to ride bulls or do events
anything, all that, We're goingto pool all that together and then doll
out a percentage to them. Okay, great, Yes, so it's the
(04:41):
Cancer Center of vent Rouge. Isthat is that what you said? Cancer
Service, Cancer Services of Greater BatonRouge. Yeah, great event, fantastic
organization, and all these three guys, and I know a lot of other
people have been very, very busyand instrumental in making this a successful event.
So we we wish the best ofluck. I personally love local rodeos.
(05:04):
I always try to attend, andthe wild cow milking won't be funny
to watch because I've seen some crazythings that y'all have done in the past.
What was it mutton busted? Ithink you you guys used to have
what was tell everybody about mutton busting? So that's not really for like people
(05:24):
our age. But you know,if you ever have a kid, it's
basically strapping a kid on the backof a sheep and seeing how long they
can stay on the kid's version ofboard and yeah, yeah, and they
look a lot of the kids thatI've seen are tough and they're rocket and
rolling on those on the little sheepand whatnot. So yeah, that's great.
(05:45):
Any anything else you'd like to addto any things that are going to
approach the rodeo, because I knowthere was in the past it has been
like a parade and and that kindof thing. Well, sadly we don't
have anything planning like that, uhthis year, but there like, if
you're if you bring your family, there will be an event called what's it
(06:09):
called calf Scramble, Oh, calfScramble we'll have for kids during the events
and it's completely free. Oh good, Yeah, so that'll be something.
Okay, I guess now, canpeople buy tickets online in advance or it's
just the door at the door ofthe night of all at the door night
of okay, night of all Right? Great eight dollars I think you said
(06:29):
for adults, five for students andfive and that's fantastic. Well, we'll
looking forward to another great block andbrigle rodeo. Uh, it's going to
be fantastic. Now, if there'sa website that someone wanted to reach out
to you guys and check out theevent and check out the history of it
