Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast. I was raised
on a farm until I was nine years old. My

(00:23):
parents lived on an eighty acre milk farm, and we
had a big garden. We had a chicken coop, and
we had sheep and goats, and we helped the people
who own the land take care of their milk cow herd.
And then when I was nine, my father was involved
in an accident and lost his eyesight.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
And we had to move from that eighty acres of paradise.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Onto a house that's was on a lot that was
Deeny diny. Our front yard was only eighteen feet wide,
our backyard was even smaller. No more gardens, no more horses,
no more milk cows, no more goats or lambs or chickens.
And even though my body moved off the farm, my

(01:14):
heart stayed there. And so about thirteen years ago, I
was able to buy my own little piece of paradise,
a little farm, and we've got goats and chickens and ducks.
We've got cows, milk cows, horses. I even have an

(01:40):
emu actually a couple of e meus now and a
zebra that I rescued named Zena. I kid you not
all on our little piece of paradise. And I am
happiest when my hands are in the dirt, when I'm
riding my horse or grooming my horse, or when I'm
working in my gardens.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Where are you happiest?

Speaker 1 (02:07):

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I got this letter from a listener named Barbara who
wanted to share a story of a rekindled love. She says, Delilah,
fifty years ago last June, at the age of seventeen,
I went to work at a place called White Horse Ranch.
It was a wonderful summer for a poor little gal.
And that summer I fell in love with a handsome,
blue eyed cowboy. When the summer was over, we went

(04:28):
our separate ways. I never saw him again through all
those years. I went on to work my way through
veterinary school. I fell in love, I married, I started
my own practice. Three years later, our son was born.
God has blessed me throughout my life, and I never
questioned his plan for me or the path that my
life was taken. After fifteen years of marriage, my husband

(04:49):
left and I divorced. I sold my veterinary practice. I
went to be a ski bum, and last year, after
fifty years, I returned to the white Horse Ranch for reunion,
and imagine that my cowboy was there. We fell in
love all over again. We soon became engaged and we're

(05:09):
planning a summer wedding which we would love to have
at the white Horse Ranch if it can be arranged.
My fiance, my cowboy's name is Kenneth. He's a wonderful,
down to earth man, and I know that I have
always loved him. And we know now that it was
God's plan that when the time was right, we would
find our way to each other again, this time for good.

(05:39):
Hi Rich Hello, welcome aboard. What can I do for you?

Speaker 6 (05:44):
Oh Delilah, I just want to to play a song
for my lovely wife that I am so much in
love with. We listen to your show all the time.
As a matter of fact, we have horses and we
have your show on out in the barn and it
comes all the big Clydesdales in Belgian, it comes them
all down.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Now, how many horses do you have.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
We have for Clydesdale's. We have one Belgian, We have
a Mustang that came from out west, and we have
a courter horse, a gypsy stallion and a drum horse.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Ah beautiful, I'll play a song for you and your
bride and all your critters.

Speaker 6 (06:25):
Right. And my wife just got out of the hospital
and she is She went back to work. She is
a counselor for kids with drug and alcohol problems, and
she is a saint with those kids. We did an
equine program with some of them about two years ago,
and two have now gotten jobs at race horse barns

(06:49):
and they thank us all the time for allowing us
to work with their horses. And now they've made they've
did a complete turnaround. And I have done so well,
and my wife's so happy, you know, and I just
you know, I love the gallop. I mean, we're always together,
we always do things together, we do with the horses,
and you know, it's just, you know, these are the

(07:11):
great things And I try to model myself and our
marriage after my parents. My mom and dad are married
sixty five years.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Well, you go enjoy your bride and let me find
aus song for you.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
Take care now, Bye bye, honey, bye bye.

Speaker 5 (07:31):
Hi, good evening. Who's this, Kathleen, Kathleen, tell me your story.

Speaker 7 (07:36):
I'm a volunteer at a place where they use horses
for therapy riding for children that are handicapped.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Oh awesome.

Speaker 7 (07:44):
It is awesome, and the horses are awesome and the
children are awesome. And I started out as a side
helper with the kids, and because I love horses so much,
I went on to be trained as a leader.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
Isn't it a maze us what happens when a person's
spirit connects with the horse?

Speaker 7 (08:04):
Yes, it is, it is, it is, And you can
see it in the children's eyes. They just hug their horses.
They're doing all kinds of moves on top of the
horse that strengthen them. There's celebal palicy children and autistic children.
We have groups come in from the schools that are children,
they are add or have trouble in school focusing and

(08:26):
things like that. They come in as groups and rides
and they need to groom their horses and tack their
horses and back down again. When they've done riding, they
have to untack them and put them away. They're totally
responsible for that one. But we're all right there with them,
and I hope a lot of people will look around
if they have such a thing in their area and

(08:46):
volunteer with They love horses and kids. Because they are
nonprofits organizations and they really need they really depend on volunteers.
They need the help.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
You know. It's funny. I get so many calls from
people at night saying I'm lonely on board, I don't
have a special someone, I'm not married. I'm saying I'm lonely,
I'm poored. It's like, how can you be bored? There's
so many people that need you, that need your love
and affection and attention. Go volunteer, Go do something, Go
give of yourself.

Speaker 7 (09:11):
I agree, I don't know how anyone could ever be
bored there's just so many things to do out there.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
Well, you keep doing what you're doing, and I'll play
a song for the horses and the children that are
so enriched because of them.

Speaker 7 (09:22):
Thank you very much, Delilah, Bye bye, bye bye.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share
more with you each weekday on Hey It's Delilah.
